@terrybrowning-e9b. The narrator towards the end of the video clearly stated that Connery was one of the best Bonds - but the reality is that most Bond film fans regard Connery as THE best Bond of them all!! So my point was totally valid and accurate!
While I agree with Connery that Moore took on a less serious role; it wasn't Moores choice to introduce characters like Jaws; a giant with steel teeth or space warfare. Moores choice was to either play it totally straight like Connery or introduce some humour to counter the implausible themes. Had Moore tried to make these situations pure straight super agent; it would have flopped with audiences; few would accept these outlandish tech themes or over the top bad guys. The humour was a sort of recognition the rest of the movie was a bit over the top; but people could go with it given a sense of humour. Connery playing straight against Jaws would have failed as silly.
No mention whatsoever of George Lazenby, who portrayed Bond in "ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE" -- in-between Connery's Bond films "YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE" and "DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER." Lazenby, while not as good in the role as Connery, nevertheless did a fine job in my estimation, and I'm sure that Connery afterwards wished that he had agreed to do the film -- especially since the tragic ending would have given him something to act in that role that was unexpected and new.
An engaging video. Overall, Sean is my favorite Bond, since I grew up in the sixties, but shout out to Pierce Brosnan in Goldeneye. There is something fun about running around in an enormous tank with the Russian army chasing you! Also, my favorite Sean movies include Outland and Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade.
Exactly, and I won $50 in NCO club trivia contest with that very answer, being the only one to know it, funny too I was at an Air Force base in England...
and again you forget Barry nelson which throws your counting off. Barry was a nice young man. but he was better at commedy. so the role of James Bond did not suit him, which is probably why not to many people remember him
The first actor to portray James Bond on screen was Barry Nelson in the 1954 television adaptation of Casino Royale. He played the character in an Americanized version of Ian Fleming’s novel, where Bond was referred to as “Jimmy Bond,” a CIA agent rather than a British spy😅
1:25 - Roger Moore did not “wear the Bond suit next”…that was George Lazenby. And he should have honored his seven film contract-that way audiences would never have been exposed to a 007 portrayed in the fashion of Simon Templar.
It's sad he isnt here to defend himself but then Sean isn't perfect either also we are all the same arnt we he who is without sin throw the first stone ?
Why didn't they say anything about his good and important work in Zardoz?! Danger also is a big part of who Zardoz is, someone who takes risks, and someone who faces danger head on, but always with STYLE!!!
I saw the first Bond films that starred Connery, but of all of the Bond actors the one I like the most is Daniel Craig. Some of the early films were cartoonish, but Craig brought a realism to the role. So in my estimation Daniel Craig was the best Bond ever.
Has George Lazenby as Bond been totally forgotten? I thought he did a fantastic job, the best from that era. Fell a bit short on some dialog delivery but he had a great athletic tough guy presence. Moore as charming as he was couldn't carry a fight scene without embarrassing the character.
An interesting narration about the ‘journey’ through Sean’s life. I have watched many videos and one interview he gave spoke about his father and mother. He also knew his grandparents and that his grandfather would run all over the place at 80. You have posted a picture of them all. The genetics of living a long life I suppose. Sean was the right actor at the right time. Another interview he gave to a Scottish journalist around 1997 on BBCa visit to Edinburgh he mentioned Broccoli Fleming, Saltzman and talked of Cary Grant and even Trevor Howard but even then who would sign to do a number of pictures and 5,at that The day we learnt Sean had died I cried all day He died of exactly the same ailments as my Mom🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️🏴🏴😢😢
I've been pretty much of the same mind that Connery was the best of the Bonds but I rather agree that Moore did well for the time his films were made. And referencing Pierce Brosnan, I thought he would have followed Moore well as the Saint. But I have also felt that Daniel Craig captured the reintroduction pretty well, and that last one should have been accepted as the last of the genre. By the way, re the resume of Sean Connery's development as an actor, I am of the opinion that his appearance with Janet Munro in Darby O'Gill and The Little People could have been worthy as one one of his earlier appearances
Ha ha ha, do a little research. Bond was first portrayed on screen by American actor Barry Nelson, in a 1954 Climax! television adaptation, "Casino Royale".
Kempo, Pentjak Silat, am Ende Kwoon Do. Mein eigener Stil Egal.
IMO a golden opportunity was missed when the producers were unable to procure the actor Stanley Baker, forcing them to look elsewhere, even after Patrick McGoohan turned down the role as well (who I would not have preferred).
Connery was thy BOND. Roger not so, he brought just another spy move. But he is a good act. A Bond he wasn't Bond, yes, another 007 move but not a Bond.
I wonder if Roger Moore was first , if James Bond would have been as successful?? But, Sean probably answered that . Action and Entertainment would still be there.
Moore had his tongue stuck so far in his cheek it's a wonder he could say anything at all. His films were all about cashing in and nobody cared about credibility or real suspense or story telling. Hence the really bad over the top jokes, smirking and ridiculous action sequences with an actor who hadn't lifted anything heavier than a martini shaker in a decade. The formula became just exotic locales and beautiful women and blow shit up. Craig and his directors returned the story to something approaching credible and believable. Even he was amazed at how much work it was to be in the physical condition required to be believable in the role. And his body paid a serious price.
@@dareese6778 He did most of his own stunts. He was as good or better than anyone playing this including Connery who was the real Bond until Craig brought it back.

@@michaelbarlow7777 why send me this. who ever was the best bond is a matter of opinion. sean connery was not mentioned. Sean was the best bond but barry nelson was the first bond
@@michaelbarlow7777 totally agree with you about that. I found it always abusd when people looked upon Roger Moore as James Bond. I loved hjm in THE SAINT, but could not stand him as James Bond. Having taken away the gun Of Johnny Stompinato when he was making a film with Lana turner, and then punching him out, he was truly probably the toughtest guy also to play James Bond.
@terrybrowning-e9b. The narrator towards the end of the video clearly stated that Connery was one of the best Bonds - but the reality is that most Bond film fans regard Connery as THE best Bond of them all!! So my point was totally valid and accurate!
He was the benchmark bond.
I loved Connery in The Hill. I read the book in the middle 60s.
Sean Connery, the one and only Bond in this household.
Also, my favorite Sean movies include Outland and Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade.
you keep saying Sean Connery the original James Bond but he was not he was the 2nd James Bond.
Connery is the only Bond to me.
R.I.P Sean Connery and thank you for your military service.
Moore was NOT the second James Bond....
Look up George Lazenby...
Connery was NOT the first Bond. He is only the first to make Bond well-known.
Was it Barry Nelson an 🇺🇸 the first Bond
🏴🏴🇬🇧🇬🇧
@@joanne26 1954ish on TV
Stompanato was a mafia guy. He pulled a gun and Connery took it away from him and knocked him down.
He had to be a mafia guy with a name like that!
I have allways said the best James Bond would of been Patrick mcgoon ( danger man) he refused the part but imo he would of been the best
By far.
I thought this was about Sean’s comments on Roger Moore, not just a bio.
I thought both actors would get an equal shout. Moore also had an interesting life, even commissioned into the British army at one point.
moore was too busy combing his hair
Has George Lazenby as Bond been totally forgotten? I thought he did a fantastic job, the best from that era. Fell a bit short on some dialog delivery but he had a great athletic tough guy presence. Moore as charming as he was couldn't carry a fight scene without embarrassing the character.
The FIRST Bond was NOT Sean Connery, But BARRY NELSON in 1954 (Casino Royale)
Sean Connery for certain the one the only James Bond.
Another interview he gave to a Scottish journalist around 1997 on BBCa visit to Edinburgh he mentioned Broccoli Fleming, Saltzman and talked of Cary Grant and even Trevor Howard but even then who would sign to do a number of pictures and 5,at that
The day we learnt Sean had died I cried all day
He died of exactly the same ailments as my Mom🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️🏴🏴😢😢
Sean connery is James bond the rest are trying to play sean connery
I've been pretty much of the same mind that Connery was the best of the Bonds but I rather agree that Moore did well for the time his films were made. And referencing Pierce Brosnan, I thought he would have followed Moore well as the Saint. But I have also felt that Daniel Craig captured the reintroduction pretty well, and that last one should have been accepted as the last of the genre.
By the way, re the resume of Sean Connery's development as an actor, I am of the opinion that his appearance with Janet Munro in Darby O'Gill and The Little People could have been worthy as one one of his earlier appearances
This was suppose to be what he said about Roger Moore but instead it was a short biography.
I could never get behind subsequent Bonds.
Wrong!!! George Lazenby was Bond after Connery then Moore
Ha ha ha, do a little research. Bond was first portrayed on screen by American actor Barry Nelson, in a 1954 Climax! television adaptation, "Casino Royale".
Sean connery was not the first James bond. It was Peter sellers in casino Royal filmed in the 50 ,s
Kempo, Pentjak Silat, am Ende Kwoon Do. Mein eigener Stil
Egal.
I always felt RM was more Simon Templer than Bond. Howeever, he isn't to blame for where they went with him. Start looking at the top on down.
IMO a golden opportunity was missed when the producers were unable to procure the actor Stanley Baker, forcing them to look elsewhere, even after Patrick McGoohan turned down the role as well (who I would not have preferred).
Nice reporting, but a bit disappointed in Connery's take on women. Part of the culture he grew up in?
Was his mom treated similarly by his dad?
Well done; but would have been better with a human narrator.
Technically, Barry Newman was the first James Bond. 3:26
What price? Was he injured? Good actor but not Bond. Perhaps 008.
@@dareese6778
He did most of his own stunts.
The injuries Required Ankle surgery followed by knee surgery followed by shoulder surgery followed by getting both front teeth knocked out and rupturing both calf muscles. Filming went around him but was delayed repeatedly and some shots are above the bandages or close ups because he could barely walk. He was as good or better than anyone playing this including Connery who was the real Bond until Craig brought it back.
"Connery was the first Bond and Moore wore the Bond suit next" is wrong. You are forgetting George Lazenby! Moore was the third Bond.
That's mostly because Lazenby was in between Connery and Connery, yes he played Bond once, but Moore followed Connery..and as so many in the comments lamented there was a Barrry Nelson before as well.. all that said this video was ill researched.
Connery should have said that D. Craig was a flop and turned the public away from 007 films.
Credence and reality, really, what about Diamond's are forever.
Big Tam will always be Bond.
Roger More was a joke as James Bond, Sean Connery was The Real Ian Fleming’s James Bond
dan craig was the goat of all of them
George Lazenby was in between Connery and Moore
No, he was in between Connery and Connery.. 🙂
I do wish Henry Cavill would make at least one preferably two Bond movies. He is the only
up and coming star who fits the profile.
Not forgetting SEAN CONNERY MOVIE THE HUNT OF RED OCTOBER THAT WAS GENIUS ACTING THE BOND
And what about the early b&w film ‘Hell Drivers’ with an equally young Patrick Maguhan of Prisoner fame.
