If the Zhiyun people can make their app with picture adjustability like filmic pro. This gimbal will be the best one. I contact Filmic people and ask them if they can implement the buttons function on smooth 4 for their app. They said it will be too difficult unless they have some assist from zhiyun.
As of November 1st 2018, it's $106 and free shipping now. Very hard to mount the phone in the holder with just 2 hands, be nice if there was a button for that. By the way, no one mentions it, but, many smartphones do have internal EIS [Electronic Image Stabilization] It has to be turned ON in settings to work with Smooth 4.
Always appreciate your videos! This looks like an interesting gimbal. I just FINALLY received my Osmo Mobile 2 the other day from Best Buy (my 1st gimbal). Have played around with it a bit and my older son is amazed by it. Looking forward to taking it out and really seeing what I can do with it.
That’s true too but you lose all the extra functionality of the gimbal. I normally don’t make a big deal of the app but with this one specifically most of the buttons only work with the app.
The Everyday Dad I just open it in the background, then all we have to do with the stamps on his double press the power button and it opens up the camera. The screens faces you anyway so you can still do tap to touch toggle it back and forth from front to rear camera and record / picture. I'm not saying I don't get what you're saying I would just rather have the video quality of the phone camera just as long as the gimbal keeps it stable. I didn't have to go to the Manuel a couple times to figure out how many times you cook the mode button to get into certain modes but eventually I figured it out haha
Looked at a lot of footage between DJI OSMO 2, Zhiyun Smooth 4 and Feiyutech Vimble 2, and unfortunately, while the Oslo 2 and Smooth 4 have blockbuster features, down to the core functionality as a gamble, the Vimble 2 seems to nail it much better. Many of the Osmo2 and Smooth4 videos try to show a lot of rotates and pans, and less movement/chase shots. But at the end of the day, think about what you need the gimbal for. For me, it really comes down to convenient and reliable smooth shots with my phone, if I want good focus and tracking features, I'll probably go to my bigger camera and/or DJI drone. My 2cents.
Great review. I'd mostly use it for action cameras so most of the features like the wheel and other buttons would be under utilized. I'd like to see you compare the Smooth 4 to the upcoming Moza Mini-MI if you can get your hands on it. It seems to allow more weight which might mean stronger motors, has a bunch of 1/4 screw attachment options placed on it for light or mic or tripod options, and seems to have some more modes which might be fun for certain cinematic shots. Its cheaper too. Not sure if its less bulky than smooth 4, but that would be a plus IMHO if so.

After a week of trying to get it to properly operate, frustratingly I chose to return it. The Smooth 4 with stronger motors might be the right solution, however, I'm still reluctant to invest the time, energy, & money if they're ignoring the large Android phones. If all of the functions don't operate properly, what's the point? Not sure that you can address those concerns. However, Did the use of the wheel for focusing enhance the zoom feature for you, or did it become a 2 handed experience? As I have a DJI Spark, maybe I should be focusing back that direction.
I don’t have a note 8 so I can’t speak to that but I can get the smooth 4 to work with my rx100v which is much heavier then my phones. Honestly I don’t really like the zoom feature, digital zooms are not something I’m a big fan of so I don’t see me using the wheel all that much.

Even with the counterweights, your Sony RX 100 V appeared to be slumping down. I am using my GoPro Hero 4 with an adapter in the same way and it slumps down. This causes the motor closest to the camera to heat up and I'm concerned it's going to burn out. Did you notice whether yours was heating up?
I bet it would have been... And taking away the warping effect from the Smart Phones is a bonus. Did you think that there was extra drain on the battery from the extra load?
Hey mate quick question. I've recently picked up the Yi lite and will be going on a ski holiday very soon. I unfortunately won't be able to bring my laptop with me in order to charge it. Is it okay to use an apple iphone wall changer to charge it? My friend is Also wondering if its okay to do the same with a hero 5. We just don't want to damage or in some way cause harm the batteries. Thanks mate:)

hey.. did you have any issues with balancing your phone (is that an iphone 7 plus or 8 plus)? i can never seem to balance my iphone 8 plus with the gimbal and never can get a straight horizon before i turn on the gimbal.
It does pretty well, I mean all the gimbals do great it’s just that sometimes the apps have issues. The DJI go app had real problems with my Sony xa2 also. And thanks so much Bill! 👍
I purchased a Smooth 4 a couple of months ago but I can't use it with my Galaxy Note 8. The advertisements were misleading. The gimbal was designed to work with an iPhone not and Android. It's also not adjustable enough to balance my Note 8 without using counter weights. Many of the functions on the ZY Play app don't work at all. Some of the other functions are sketchy or quit working after a while. I'll never purchase another product from Zhiyun. I will never own an apple product such as an iPhone, so in my opinion the Smooth 4 is a piece of junk. I wasted my money.
Dang that stinks. Yeah it definitely didn't want to work with my Galaxy S9 at all. Which is unfortunate because if I'm putting a phone in a gimbal chances are its my S9.
Smooth 4 wins hands down all the controls at yr finger tips I own and dji osmo 2 seems primitive compared to smooth 4 and it came with tripod FACTZZZZZZ
Great review! I just got the Smooth 4 and I must say it's awesome, I have one issue though and I don't know if it's the gimble or software. Whenever I put it in lock mode, for some reason albeit very slowly it starts to drift either left or right and it won't stay centered. Anyone have this issue? But as soon as I flick the switch to PF mode it re-centers itself and actually stays centered. I feel I should send it back as it might be faulty. Anyone else have this issue?

Smooth Q have Smooth panning left and right and smooth tilt up tilt down in joystick smooth 4 only focus and zoom .. for much better smoothQ

You can push down on the wheel to use the buttons.. so you have both

Yeah it works just be careful when you do it as it’s not super secure in the grips.

Don’t use Smooth4 with RX100, it will fall out without an adaptor bracket. Then it is brilliant.

I haven’t had that issue yet, I would double check your balancing and if it keeps up I’d reach out to Zhiyun tech support.
