Martin Wolf , the payload for the Smooth 4 makes it impossible to add extra weight unless you have a very lightweight phone. The 500 gram payload Zhiyun promised during pre-order was marketing hype.
Lenore Bell Technically you are right and I never used a gimbal so far. But according a lot of videos here it seems to work anyway when the gimbal is balanced with an additional counterweight. Maybe not so perfect for the gimbal lifetime.
I've added a 5.7oz counder weight to both Smooth-Q and Smooth-4. Use double stick foam and attach to the tilt motor. You can buy weights at the fishing store or places like Hobby Lobby.

Hi, thanks for your in-depth review, i have just purchased this gimbal and noticed it makes a buzzing vibration if i make the following motion. Holding the Gimbal vertically upright then slowing turning the gimbal to a horizontal position in either direction the gimbal will buzz/vibrate when it reaches say 45 degrees. Does your gimbal exhibit the same characteristic? I am unsure if it is a fault or a limitation of movement. Thanks in advance.

What phone are you using to get a smooth zoom. I'm working with Zhiyun to work out kinks. Firmware won't update and my zoom is jerky. Androids have problems. BTW...one of my older students says "bless your heart" see watches all your videos.

Anastasio Productions I wanted to purchase one of their gimbals for my action camera, but when I saw the reviews on their app with Android (You can find PLENTY of complaints online), I stayed away. It's been almost a year since I bought another gimbal for my action camera (FeiyuTech G5), and Zhiyun has not fixed their app yet ... Just read online before you make your decision. MrUriel250 I have the Crane V2 and haven't had issues with the Android app. I'll look through complaints but for what I may use the Smooth 4, it may not even matter. If anything, I can always get an iPhone. Due for a new phone anyways
I'm on a smooth q facebook group. A user just bought the smooth 4, and is stating that the app is utter crap with is samsung S8. No 4k, moving timelaps, tracking.
No, other reviews said it will only shoot in 1080p using the play app, plus the app doesn't work well with Android. I wanted to get one of these so bad, but since your limited to 1080, and the app is buggy with Android, my S9+ will just have to be hand held for a while.
I know you can record in 4k using the gimbal, but not when your using the ZY app to control the phone. The 4k feature works only on the iphone. check out some of the reviews on Amazon from people that have received them.

I pre-ordered a Smooth 4, because Zhiyun advertised a 500 gram payload during pre-sale marketing, but payload is somewhere between 200-210 grams. My iPhone 8+ weighs 213 grams.
Disappointing case/foam box. The cheaper SMOOTH Q has a better case. The bad case and bad reviews regarding the Android app is going to make me look for a different option I think.
