    The trail terrain does change as you discussed as does access to different areas. These things I have enjoyed on the local trails where I live. I also consider vista points along the trail for viewing sun rise or sun sets as well as moon rise or moon sets. Some camp sites I will consider if it has dark skies for star gazing. Thanks for another great video.

    Great video! Going to steal your wife's recipe. I've been wheeling nearly 10 years now and too have learned a lot. Out of everything you've learned, is there anything you regret? A trail never taken, honest rookie mistake, etc...? Stay safe

Reason why I started camping (so far just controlled camp grounds) building up my confidence and courage to hit the trails and discover amazing dispersed camping sites. Take the wife up top of the world trail. My wife had her doubts. I went to EJS 5 days before her to “get it out of my system” lol. She flew out and that was the last trail I had to check off. Couldn’t go to Moab without going up there again. Pretty sure I passed brad in the red Jeep on 128 on our way back to town matter of fact. Then spent a day checking out the parks with her and took a trip monument valley and the 4 corners. Also checked out valley of the gods. I can say for sure she gets it now. On the ride home she was asking when and where we’re going jeeping next lol.

      @@TrailRecon It’s just a gravel road loop with some pretty scenery and camp spots. I wouldn’t make a special trip just to see it but if driving by it would be a awesome place to camp for a night. Do wish the sites were a bit off the road path for privacy. More of like a campground experience with much better scenery.

    I think that is truly one of the problems in overlanding, we get so gear oriented in the newest and greatest. That isn't necessarily a problem if you enjoy and nerd out on the gear but don't let it hold you back from going on trips and enjoying the gear you already have. Its awesome to see how far you have come and grown and to see your channel go from a few subscribers to over 484,000 is insane!!!! Love it!

    Your video was great. The gate has been locked for 25 years it’s a bummer because it would be a great loop. Brad did you know that a plane crash on Palomar Mountain that had an atomic bomb on it?

    • @TrailRecon
      @TrailRecon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh man, I had no idea about the plan crash, thank you for sharing that. I just spent 30 minutes researching that and I didn't see any reference to a bomb, but 12 service members lost their lives when a fighter jet and bomber crashed up there the week before the D-day invasion, so it wasn't a big headline. Looks like there is a memorial on private property up there now. I'll have to see if I can go back and request access.

    I think I can safely say that the 392 hast the best stock exhaust note of any Jeep. I love the scenery it’s so different from here in Ontario Canada. I’d love to bring my gladiator here. You may have made a video on this in the past and I’m relatively new to the channel, but what do you look for in a suitable camping spot?

    • @TrailRecon
      @TrailRecon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should plan a trip, the Gladiator is a great overland/road trip truck! I'm not picky about camping spots, generally I just want something flat, can accommodate at least 2 vehicle and some protection from the elements. Time distance on my trips usually dictates what camping spots I select.

    It is always interesting to revisit a trail and not only see how it has changed but also how your initial perspective of it changed as well. We have a couple of trails that we want to redo because they were fun and also doing them in a different season will change their scenery. Jordan... Pay attention to Mom. It is a shelf road... 2 hands on the wheel, eyes on the road... yeah, all the mom safety things. LOL Until next time... Travel safe.

      Nope! I cook it in chicken broth, which adds flavor to the recipe. I add enough broth to not quite cover the pasta, which thickens slightly as the pasta cooks. I keep a little extra broth (or water) on hand in case the liquid cooks off too fast or too much. 😄

    Great videos. You mentioned you retired from the Military. Navy? I was in the Army for 26 years. Retired in 03. Looking forward to retire again and hit the trails. Do you think a 23 Chevy 2500, 4X4 diesel could make it on the trails? I still need to get it upgraded for back country camping, but looking forward to hitting all the National Parks and a lot of State Parks.

    Palomar Divide is my next day outing. Looks like you all did this on Friday when the wind was up. I went solo out to Blair Valley and then up to the S22 and dropped into Grapevine Canyon, Yaqui Wells Rd, then up to Anza Borrego so I could get a patch of the state park. Never even aired down.
    Be careful out there. The rattlers are starting to come out of their dens. I just about stepped on one as I was checking out a view. Little bugger was just sitting there warming up in the sun.
    BTW, to dispersed camp in Cleveland NF, you have to call the ranger district office and get a free overnight permit. They will email it to you...each peasy. You could also stop at the office to get one. No open fires, unfortunately.

I put mine on a bed of baby spinach and added some fresh cracked pepper and a dash of hot red pepper flake. YUMMY! Thanks Regena!

    Built a ton of guzzlers, for chuckers, (and whatever else needs a drink) out in the west desert, past Delta Utah with my ole man and his group when i was young. Was always awesome to go back out, and see some one had destroyed them, for fun.
    So, we set them all back up, shake our heads, and move on.

    Love the video and comparisons from before to now, always great content. Interesting about Palomar, how does the fire road portion of that trail compare to Otay Mountain? I have some newbies who are a bit afraid of driving on the side of a cliff with larger vehicles like a Tacoma & RAM at Otay, is Palomar similar in that regard?

      Thank you! I haven't been up to Otay in a long time, but if I recall Palomar is similar terrain, just higher in elevation. There are a few sections that are narrow, but honestly you could easily drive a full size truck on the Palomar trail.
