    I just purchased this a few days ago. Its a big help for consistent straight cuts that take a while to make when going slow enough on a finish cut. Im a hobby cue maker so this is plenty.

    • @playpool12fyao
      @playpool12fyao  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It takes a while to do the finish cut but the time it takes it saves on sanding. Now I don’t need to sand and have “bleed overs”. I wish I bought this thing earlier. Thank you for commenting, please subscribe if haven’t already and please share.

      @@playpool12fyao I use waterbased sanding sealer if that helps? :] No bleed overs and I can have the wood as fine as I like.

      @@TheBanomanew My pool league team mate told me to seal the cue first then sand it but haven’t tried it. With the power feed I just cut it about 5 volt and it is smooth. I will try the water based sealer especially with cocobolo. Thank you for the tip.

    Oh my god this is the video I’ve been looking for. I’m guessing you already offset your centers?
    Also, can you do a video like this for a shaft blank? Can you build a shaft from scratch?
    Your videos are so dope bro. I ordered the same lathe from Mid America. I put a deposit didn’t get it yet. Can’t wait.

      Awesome hope your lathe comes in soon. As for the set up, I did. I have two tailstocks, one for center drilling and one offset for tapping the butt. I would recommend buying another tailstock so you don’t have to find the centers every time you offset the tailstock. For turning a shaft, you can do it. I have done it but it is very time consuming and it requires a lot of practice. I messed up more shaft blanks. If you want to make shafts, buy cheap wood to turn in to tapered shafts. Personally I tell customers I don’t make wood shafts but I will build them a carbon shaft. Thank you and thank you again for commenting.

    I wonder how hard it would be to convert a cnc setup to this lathe bed for using a g code program for auto cutting the shafts with your desired tapers vs a conicle taper or setting it up to run the pro taper and stopping them adjusting it to go from your taper to the 3-4 inches from the joint.

    • @playpool12fyao

      Todd from Mid American Cue Lathe use to sell the CNC convention kit and a whole set. The biggest thing is to make a mount for the stepper motor. Once you figure that out, it won’t be hard to get it to be a CNC.

      If you really need a cue lathe and you can get a hold of Chris from cue smith. I would talk to him. If worst comes to worst, try looking at a lathe on Amazon. They have lathe that will accept cue butt. A 8x16 lathe comes with a 1.3-1.5 bore at the chuck and spindle.

    why choose mid america, not cuesmith ?

    • @playpool12fyao

      I contacted both, Mid America and Cuesmith and Mid America had better customer service. Todd from Mid America replied within 24 and told me exactly what I was getting and the total cost with shipping. I wanted a cuesmith but he won’t return my calls and he replied to my email almost a week out. I am happy with my lathe. It has built me my cues I play with from playing, breaking and jumping. I also sold some cue, repaired cues and made carbon shafts. Hope this helps, please subscribe if haven’t already and please share.

      @@playpool12fyao is it good for joint repair too ?

    • @playpool12fyao
      @playpool12fyao  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is. Mid America Cue Lathe is super accurate especially for facing the joint and setting the pin. If you plan to replace a joint collar, that might be difficult unless you get a compound slide so you can cut the tapper. You and also trim the joint collar then sand the matching tapper of the cue. I can’t speak for the cuesmith because I never used one. It looks the same because most of the cue lathe are made from the same manufacturer, Taig Tools and therefore there are really not disadvantages or advantages over each other besides the tapper bar cuesmith comes with. Mid American get the part from Taig and from the looks of it so does Cuesmith. I just bought a mid American because Todd was quick with the reply back. Thank you for commenting again.
