I went low carb Jan 1 and found that it reduced my arthritic pain (knees) considerably in about four days. I usually only eat two meals a day due to lack of hunger. My plan was to only cut out sugar and flour for one month but I felt so good I’ve continued. I did have a treat for my birthday but got right back on track the next day without any repercussions. Enjoying your videos!
Dr Westman, you come across as a totally genuine individual who's reward is your patients success and not the financial reward. Great series, well done both of you.
@@AdaptYourLife Dr. Weston, if someone IS on a "water pill" for swelling in the ankles, & after 3 months on keto & 2 wks on carnivore, the ankles are still swollen, are you saying you would consider keto to be contraindicated? I understood that keto would cause me to lose water, so at the start, I stopped using my furosemide. (I do supplement w mag & potassium). But the swelling is sti bad again already.
I think you mean eat "up to" 20 total carbs/day. The 20 total carbs/day is a limit...not a goal. Eat less if you want. Our bodies can make all the carbs we need without eating carbs. Also, don't eat food you don't like or that don't agree with you.
Is this success? For 35 years I took 4 different medications to lower my high blood pressure. Even so, It was never low enough . After being on keto I gradually weaned off all of them. Today after 18 months I take none, and my blood pressure is better than it was on all that stuff. Is that success?
I started eating strictly from Dr. Westerman‘s page 4 food list over a year and a half ago and lost 70 pounds the first six months. I reversed type two diabetes and now have an HbA1 C of 5.1 ..reversed hypertension, reduced cholesterol. I am no longer diagnosed as having T2D. When I asked my doctor why she didn’t offer similar advice that I found on TH-cam, that has made such a big difference, she just said “we are just not trained this way”
What a wonderful result for you and in your life going forward with better health. Congratulations ... how I wish more people could be empowered to change their life as you have. As recent as this week I read comments demonstrating there are still many wrapped up in the wrong ideas on food, fats, carbs, diet and LCHF or keto saying it ruins your hormones!!!! I simply could not take on that level of ignorance or manipulation. Thank you for sharing your journey and your process. So excited to here what you’ve accomplished. 🌟✨💫
another benefit of measuring (for those who like measuring and charting and creating spreadsheets and such) is that it increases patient buy-in and commitment and engagement - in some people :)
I did low carb and IF for 4 weeks and stopped all insulin. I have been doing it nearly 9 weeks now. I saw my endo and since I had lost 14 kg and my hba1c was even slightly lower. She said she will see me in 4 months. As long as I keep on doing this, she is not keen to put me back on insulin. I am so happy. I do test every morning and only stopped insulin because I was having lows.
I have a vest a friend gave me. It’s so cute but I’ve never been able to fit it until now. I wasn’t able to connect it around my belly. Then I was able to eventually zip it but I had to suck in everything. Now I can zip it easy enough. Is it completely loose- no. In a month or 2 from now will it be? Yes. The marathon.
My song would be Happy by Pharrell Williams. I would be dancing, well, moving quickly, to that song. I am HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY now that I've lost 75 lbs on Dr. Westmans page 4 plan.

It’s ironic that the medical world pushes things as “preventative” that detect, but doesn’t actually ‘prevent’ anything. Here is something that actually reverses and prevents chronic issues, and they are unwilling to take the time to investigate it’s efficacy. 🤦🏻♀️
I am very curious about the controversy of a low carb diet among doctors and why it is taboo to recommend or allow a patient to do it. If the Institute of Medicine indicates that there is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate then shouldn’t it be considered taboo or dangerous to recommend that 50-65% of one’s diet include a nonessential “nutrient”? It seems absurd that Ancel Keys’ urban myth should outweigh basic physiology.
Some people, wether they be drs. or civilians, don't like change. Some don't know the difference between Ketosis and Ketoacidosis. Some are more comfortable relying on the same old Big Pharma protocols. For some, the keto news still hasn't filtered down to them.
Sandra Westley in the UK they are rolling out Low Carbohydrates diet in our Hospitals, to reverse diabetes, there are many in our health care that are aware of what’s needed now, it’s also in all our papers how to do low carbohydrates also.
You have to realize that most doctors get 1-3 hours of nutrition in medical school and most of what they learn about nutrition is WRONG. Instead they are taught to medicate us and follow folks like the American Heart Association (which is entrenched with big food and big pharm). Many doctors are overweight or obese themselves. Most nutritionists get the same faulty info.
Thanks Dr. Westman for your great info!! Started Keto on 6/20, I’m doing pretty well!! I’m a 65 yo retired RN, gained some weight post repair of abductor tendon in my hip. My struggle is to find variety in the foods allowed and best electrolyte replacement in your opinion 🙂 thanks again!!!
Dr Berg makes a good electrolyte mix. Food variety is easy if you cook but may be hard otherwise. There are so many yummy recipes on TH-cam and the internet.
I think the best electrolyte on the market is LMNT (they make both unflavored and flavored versions that have stevia in them). I don't think Dr. Westman recommends electrolytes, per se. I have heard him talk about using bouillon or broth. A swig of pickle juice or dab of mustard is another remedy I've heard him talk about if you are having leg cramps. But if you have high blood pressure, he doesn't advise you supplement, until you get your blood pressure under control.
Adapt Your Life thx! Can you adjust? I’m around > 50. Can you increase or decrease without losing the benefits but stay under 50? Also I haven’t seen any videos about fasting (prolong) or time restricted eating.
