Polygamy is something that in my morals I would not do, for most people is like that, Rudeus love life is kind of a great example of how something non-conventional can be great, yes, he lied, but his family ended being good, if everyone there is happy with each other, who are we to criticize based on our own personal morals?
She knew he was a greyrat, and she knew also how much Roxy meant to him even before Sylphie met her. He talked so highly of his master, and knowing Roxy was there for him in a dark time most likely made her happy. She knew Roxy cared as much for him as she herself did.

The polygamy aspect of MT is by far the weakest aspect of the writing because it's not treated as serious as the other aspects of world building.
There's so many ways of going about polygamy, polyamory, monogamy that gives extra context about the culture.
Compare it to African polygamy where a chief is supposed to have at least 2 wives but women are raised knowing that the more affluent they marry, the more likely they will need to compete to become the 1st wife.
The Kama Sutra worships women and breaks down how to interact and respect personality types and if the reader plans to have a harem, how to go about that in a way everyone is satisfied.
It's not just a cultural thing but uses poetic language that properly offers respect to women in a region and era where those men are well known to be absolute buffoons for the majority and the rulers deserved their revelry.
Rudy's magical capacity has him on a god tier so being from the Asura kingdom, he should be seen as an actual threat to the entire royal family especially by having so many mixed race children.
There was so much potential to encourage the women behind Rudy to support him in a way that will raise his place in the greyrat family to lord status.
Instead it's an episode of Jerry springer.

This is what I'm bothered about. A lot of this stuff is always left out of the anime(understandably so). Still, so much context is removed and it can get some people to draw the wrong conclusions, insulting the story and the readers for buying into it. It greatly saddens me.
most harem anime portray the harem aspect so badly too often, i hate it too. but mushoku tensei imo protrayed it the best, not just harem for the sake of fan service harem type thing but really built it to fit in that story and world and do affect other character and show how other character in that world react to it. its beautiful in a strange way lmao

Sylphy knew what nobles were like when it came to marriage, and more importantly: she was well aware of Rudeus’ nature, and was willing to live with it.
Personally, polygamy is still pretty weird to me. However, this episode portrayed it in a way I can sympathize with. Roxy and Sylphy both support Rudeus in their own way, and he truly cares for them both equally
Most harems are portrayed very poorly, which is why they are generally disliked. But this one is done so well that I can't really dislike it.

Well I think the problem with Nanahoshi was they spoke Japanese in front of Sylphy. And that they were seemingly very close, while having no pivotal connection to him (unlike Eris/Roxy) Rudy was showing a side that he’s shown literally no one else.
I'd be scared of nanahoshi too, if I see someone I love have alot of chemistry, have a different medium of language you can't understand.

For kids this how Polygamy can be better than Monogamy because there is one more additional adult to care and love them. Which the end of the episode showed over the month before having the child and afterward how well everyone including the kids included Roxy in all things and Roxy and Sylphie became friends or as they say in Polygamy sister wives.
In Polygamy it standard for the women to consider themselves married to each other not just the man even when there is no sexual component between the women although most systems allow the women to be sexual with each other.

Sylphie showed no interest in Rudy not having other wives offering a Mistress option to him without being promoted and not impressed by Rudy's decoration of only her which she did not return.
Sylphie a product of a religion and culture that Polygamy is a good thing in and it very likely Sylphie has never dreamed of having a monogamous relationship because her dream guy as a child would of course have other wives because he be too great a person not to.
Plus for some women Polygamy is better they love having sister wives they are also married to. Basically the women who want to spend all their time with girlfriends not their men so in Polygamy they can do that as there is no demands from multi men for their time.
Tenchi Muyo, that invented the harem genre catagory, in recent OVA had the eight wives of the GXP main decide in the house that was being built for the family that they wanted one huge shared bedroom because they tired of all ending up sleeping in the Living Room of the rental because they talked to each other till they fell asleep. They did this without the husband being there as typical in many real Polygamist marriages the women make all the decisions often with husband having no say. MC of the GXP spin off got 8 wives. Tenchi of the main series got 7 and had kids with all of them and the some of the kids having adventures now. So when invented the Harem tag was for actual multi marriages with sex and kids. Then follow up shows nerfed the term so hard the actual marry them all shows almost need a different tag.
I was very repulsed when i realised the series would go down the polygamy route. There are so many harem shows that are downright disgusting. But this series? I don't mind the relationships portrayed here. I dont mind giving this one a chance. I think it is one of the only series (that has recently been popularized and that I know of) that seems to have a decent representation of polygamy.
