    Thanks for the help mate. How much you need to lift the car off the ground to reach the part comfortably from the bottom?

      Thanks. Lift the car just enough that you can slide underneath

    I have a vw polo 1997 would the starter motor be roughly the same setup?

    • @HaynesManuals
      @HaynesManuals  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really, the '97 Polo starter is under the inlet manifold, whereas the 2002 starter is below the battery box, against the transmission casing.

    Do u have bleed air out?for coolant

    • @HaynesManuals
      @HaynesManuals  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's no need to disturb the cooling system to replace the starter motor, so no need to bleed the system afterwards.

    My gear change cables do not have a retaining clip as shown in the video on a BBY engine and I'm currently stuck trying to resolve this issue as I'm unable to detach the assembly in order to have good accesbto the starter motor. Any help? I purchased the manual and to no avail.

      There are 3 common designs of gearchange cables. The 1st is as shown in the video/manual, the 2nd is detached by depressing the button on the top of the end fitting, and pulling it up from the lever balljoint, and the 3rd is detached by gently prising the end fitting from the lever balljoint.

      @@HaynesManuals thank you for your very quick and useful reply. I believe mine is the second variation as I cannot, for the life of me, see how the white circle is anything but a button. It would be very helpful to add such common differences in parts in the manual. Looking forward to using the information provided to do great work on my car.
      The part number is 1J0711761A. If you could provide more information as to whether it is the 2nd or 3rd type just so I can make sure, it would be lovely.
      Thanks!
      EDIT: MINE IS THE ONLY CIRCULAR ONE. The other two have square shapes with rounded edges whereas mine is more of an egg

      Looking at that part number, I think it's the 3rd type - prise off. Thanks for the info!

      I'm sorry, but we don't have that information. Although, as I'm sure you realise, it is an earth connection.
