You make me laugh, Scotty! I am also a retired mechanic of 40 years. I don't know about you but I'm 67 and my body is worn out. I am glad you are still having fun in the automotive industry...keep up the good work!
Both of those trucks around here at the beach would be 18 $19,000 trucks Especially the avalanche with under Just a little over 100,000 miles I think would break the bank
The most compelling man on youtube. I've watched more unnecessary video essays here than anywhere else. And I usually have no care or relevance to what you are talking about but dang you get me interested Scotty!
Proud owner of a '96 T100 V6! I just replaced the bulbs in the headlights tonight - easy peasy and for about $60. Not at all like the newer fashionable (expensive) trucks where guys are paying thousands to replace light assemblies lol. It does need some tlc on the trim inside and out, and a new headlight switch since it isn't activating the high beams anymore, but what the heck I paid cash in 2005, it has less than 185K on it, and it has never left a single drop of oil on the ground. All that with no car payment for almost two decades? Yes please.
Smart. Nowadays though people want to criticize smart drivers which know exactly what a good driver is. Knowing cars that are not problematic+ checking your fluids+taking care of the car= A SMART DRIVER. Not just a person who knows how to maneuver and flore it through traffic in a car that breaks down but looks cool
I own a 2012 honda ridgeline had the underframe recall, new tires and pressure sensors, rotor, brakes, good oil runs perfect, only draw back to avalanche and ridgeline is rear visibility is bad backing up. Used it for towing a mower and 1000 pounds of mulch in the back great truck!
Awesome truck. Looking for one now. Scottys right, these turbocharged engines that Ford and Toyota are now using don't get any better gas mileage than the V8 engines they replaced lol.
They are torquey, but at the cost of fuel mileage. They're not rating these things with weight in the back, or pulling a trailer. That's the scam of it all.
Ten years ago, i was vehicle shopping and i had a choice between a green T100, pearl 98 4runner limited, and a 06 frontier. I chose the 4runner and still drive it as my daily. 268,000.
😎 Honda Ridgeline one of the most practical best long-lasting trucks out there and I love cloth interior it lasts forever. The trunk in the bed where the tailgate open sideways is a big help but one note always check your four-wheel drive system in generation 1. Engage then do a steering lock left and right Make sure that rear end is working.
When I first saw the Ridgeline years ago I thought it was a stupid truck concept with it's very short truck bed. Looking at all the short truck beds people are driving today, I have much more respect for the Ridgeline & their durability.
All those that got the Xtracab (1996 and later models did) got the smaller bed. No 8ft beds on Xtracab models. Looks quite clean but did I see patches on that frame?! I know these and the earlier Toyota pickups had better frames than the Tacomas and early Tundras but it looks like this one was reinforced. My daily driver is a '93 compact SR5 pickup that was sold new at Bristol Toyota when they were still located in RI, It had a side impact accident which required replacing driver side door and cab side panel and was sent to Canada around 2006-2007. I got it in 2009. I rustproofed it a few times since but the frame is still solid and never needed reinforcement. It has a lot of mileage but still runs fine, A/C blows cold and power accessories all work. No annoying body noises either!
Have an 08 Avalanche I bought new with 100,000 on it. Love it. Keeps my stuff in the back secure, fold down that seat and you can load 4x8 plywood all day. It does rattle though. Typical Chevy!
I had two apprentices that bought last new tundras. Within 6 months they traded them in because they could afford the gas mileage!. Stock tires and they were just commuting to work.
I live in Central WI and commute over 45 miles to work. In the winter I see more 4 wheel drive trucks and SUV's stuck in the ditch than rear wheel drive cars. And there are a lot of rear wheel drive cars out here even in winter.
Thank God it isn't the 3.0 v6 Those blew up over and over. Friend had one. Toyota designed the clamping force of the heads poorly. Multiple rebuilds, and still blew up.
Truck frames could be rust free like a ship's hull, they use sacrificial anodes, made of zinc and the zinc bars are replaced every so often. How does anode prevent rust? Sacrificial anodes are used to protect metal structures from corroding. Sacrificial anodes work by oxidizing more quickly than the metal it is protecting, being consumed completely before the other metal reacts with the electrolytes.
I love the T-100 I had the 3.4 in my 95' Tacoma, Now i have a 4.7 05' tundra, The smallest big truck you can get. The Avalanche and the Ridgeline have the same high bed side design, interesting.❤❤
It had the frame replaced, I replaced the step side bed because of rust, the leaf springs broke, The rear bumper support is too rusted so much they wouldn't inspect it too tow, And there's a brake valve off the master cylinder that causes the front driver caliper to pull you into on coming traffic, if you go on a Toyota V log, it's known problem and the master cylinder cost $2,000, they don't sell the check valve separate, I've called Toyota, there ignoring me ,hoping I'll go away, I have a registered complaint, the local dealerships told me good luck laughing at me, and Scotty asked me to stop by to see if we could twist there arm, But that's a 5 hour drive for me at 13 mph, I'll keep emailing everyone, The thing about Toyotas, the engine and drive train are bulletproof, Everything around them rot in New England, you gotta keep them oiled or just keep replacing everything. And to replacement part are expensive, and I just did the timing belt, $1,000, Alot of rusty bolts. I love the truck, it a nice v-8 4.7.
Loved my Chevy Avalanches. I bought a 2002 and a 2005 both brand new. Both were 4WD and had the first generation full cladding. I traded the 2002 with 65K on it for the 2005 only because my job required us to drive vehicle less than 4 years old to qualify for the company monthly truck allowance. The truck was actually in perfect condition. In late 2006 I lost that job to the recession so I kept the 2005 until 2020. I had 135K on it then, the cladding was faded, headliner was sagging but since I live in central North Carolina it had ZERO rust in the body. When I traded I just wanted something newer so I bought a 2 year old Silverado which to date now has given me a lot of trouble compared to 18 years of driving Avalanches. Kind of wish I had kept my 2005 and spent a fraction of the money I spent on the Silverado to fix it back up. I probably would have been much better off. ;-) The only other other thing I can say about my 2005 Avalanche is, I bet some one out there got a good one.
@@landdealsCA , 2018 LT. It spent it's first two years on the roads of northern New York. A lot of it's issues I had to work through were salt corrosion issues in the electrical system and starter motor. Everything seems to be fine now that I got though those random recurring electrical issues. I was also was not pleased with how the transmission acted. Seemed to always be looking for the right gear. I had a trusted transmission shop check it out and they recommended having a custom tune done uping the shift points on the trans and limiting the clutch lockout to happen only over 45 MPH. They also disabled the Active Fuel Management with the tune so the truck stayings in V8 mode all the time. That trimmed a few MPG off on the highway but actually improved it around town and the truck drives sooooo much better all the time. Well worth doing that. In the long run that might save the lifters from collapsing too since they will not constantly be starved for oil in 4 cylinder mode anymore. Knock on wood.
I went shopping for a new truck and whole thing made me just wanna puke. You have to struggle like hell to find real friggin truck, which is what I want and not a luxury sedan with a bed and tailgate. I would feel neutered driving around in what passes for a truck now. Can I just get a truck? No motorized running boards and tailgate. Maybe one that has less than two cameras in it? I don't want a hot seat and steering wheel and it turns out that I'm lumped in with a very low minority of men. Can we just bring back the pickup truck?
I didnt know that. Thanks for the info. Where I live regular sales tax doesnt go to roads. Yearly vehicle registration and federal gas tax pays for roads. My town runs tourism through many different avenues from a theater, 2 museums, car shows the biggest is 4th of July events of carnival, parade and fireworks. The fireworks is all funded through donations and is the biggest in the state. Not bad for a town of 3500.
Back in I think 07 parents wanted a new Honda van. We also sat in and drove around in the Honda Truck. One of the first ones made too. Super comfy, looked really nice. They ended up with the van, but man we regret not buying one because they were so damn comfy. I still cant find a vehicle as comfy as that was. If they made them with the towing capacity as some of these other trucks, it would dominate the truck industry with comfort and long haul.
Funny that the t100 was basically what the taco is today, it’s actually smaller than the Taco today LOL. I believe when toyota was shut down making the T150, they came back with a vengeance and basically said “oh yea Big 3, you don’t take our full size p/u?!? Here we go - and when they put the V8 in the first gen Tundras - they’re so overbuilt!
I had a 1993 T100. It had the 3.0 Liter V-6. Engine blew at around 220K miles. Mechanics refused to rebuild, told me it wasn't worth my money. This was probably in 2003. In 1995 they offered the 3.4 Liter V-6. I did enjoy driving my truck through the hills of south Indiana.
I never knew the avalanche was built like that where u can take back window out and extend the cab..that’s pretty cool. Idk why more trucks don’t use that design it’s pretty smart
I know right!? I almost flipped my rocker when I saw that. My biggest complaint about newer trucks is the bed is way to small to even be a real truck. Now here's truck with decent cab space and the option to extend your bed.
The only problem with “extending the bed” of the avalanche is you can expose the people inside the truck to loads shifting and other dangers, as the load is transitioned from “outside” in the normal bed configuration to sharing the the interior space with the load, especially if not properly secured/tied down.
The kids can pretend they're in a tent while driving down the road. I do something like that too, driving a 18 yr old Hyundai while pretending I'm driving a Bentley down the road.
All nice trucks but Scotty, you are not buying ANY cheap trucks here in Florida, unless it a rust bucket. As you said in your other videos, it seems that as people put more miles on Toyota trucks, 200, 300, 000 miles, they want even more for them!!!!!!!! Sometimes a real clean, like new condition Tacoma, maybe 5-10 years old with 350K, they still want 10k or over and they get that. Not me, Eventually the engine and trans will go out and I don't want to be the one to have to buy that. Great info, thanks again.
There are 4(!) Toyota T-100 in the whole country for sale. The cheapest one, 1993 year costs $6000, has 300k miles. If you want lower mileage, there is another one with 198k miles for only $24.500. Good deal
Bought a 1 owner 2009 white 4dr (crew cab) Toyota Tacoma TRD 4cyl 4/4 for 10k At Toyota dealer that had 75 k miles back in 2013 the body was showroom but after buying it I had to do inspection before I could get hard plates (New Hampshire) found out the frame was completely ROTTED! Was shocked the Toyota dealer had it on their certified preowned lot! Like that. Yet claimed it was serviced fully and yea it had brand new tires. (How they lifted it to put tires on with bad frame and not know was beyond me) But Toyota put a brand new frame on it for free.. couple years later sold it for double what I paid for it.
An Avalanche with mileage that low for 4K would be a steal but the reality is whoever sold that one was clueless or didn't want to make a profit. Even the high mileage Avalanches sell for double that price and more.
Another reason that you will be away from the scams is the manual transmission. It its seen on your car, the thief will not think about scamming you. They can't drive them.
Scotty, I heard that the T-100 became the basis for the 1st generation Tacoma. As for the Ridgeline, I have a bud in Hawaii, who has one of the same year with 150K on it, and it runs like new!!!!
Finding a good price on old Toyota trucks went out with high button shoes! Secrets out. Unless it's a rust bucket, people seem to want crazy money for them. Same with the 'lanche. Was able to snag a low mileage, '07 Ridgeline for a decent price a few weeks ago.
My dad recently sold his Honda Ridgeline back to the dealership for a recall. 250k miles. I bought it for him 4k. Dealership bought it for 6k. If he didnt sell it back to him after the "recall" they wanted him to sign papers where they weren't liable for insurance purposes.
@6:20 Toyoda cheats emission testing with the turbo thingy but it only works in partial load where most tests are conducted. If the truck has to work hard, it consumes a lot of gas.
I love my 1992 Toyota 2wd pickup. Has 174k on it and runs great yet and gets 22 mpg on the highway. It is the 2.4 with 5 speed. Body is pretty nice but frame is going.
The Honda Ridgeline was NOT available in 2 wheel drive. They're all ALL wheel drive (as opposed to 4-wd). I have a 2008 with 206500 miles and you can't even hear it run at idle. Love it!
Toyota is one of the best trucks I have ever owned. My brother gave me one of his old ones when I was in high school it had over 225,000 miles on it and it still drove me where ever I needed to go, the gas peddle was a little hard and I couldn't just floor it from a full stop to peddle to the metal but if you just accelerated normally it did just fine. One thing that could have been better is the body, the bed and bumper was very rusty with holes even haha.
It's Texas, can't LOOK like you're struggling to "make it" ( any more). Have a saying there ( like the Dutch so but "slightly" different) ... Starts with "All hat and !"
I was just in Durango and when I was leaving this weekend I saw a white T100 for sale on someone's property right off the highway the 550 South Durango going to New Mexico I'm pretty sure it was dirt cheap and it looked really good for the body, who knows about everything else but if I had extra money I would have bought it knowing what I know from you Scotty 😂! I remember these first came out in the 90s I got to ride in one with the general manager of a dealership, who had his demo that he was using to go up to Lake Isabella up here in California it was a nice ride not better than a Ford or a Chevy at the time but the one thing I could not get over was how ugly it looks since it had a big shells with tiny wheels and I said nope never going to buy one of these it looked too Arigato for me 😂!
I had an Avalanche(totaled it later in an accident) and I was rear ended by a Caddy Escalade...yeah, guess which vehicle faired better there. lol. so much plastic but I did enjoy it while we had it.
I never see these anymore when I lived in Colorado when I was a younger man for 17 years in the early 2000s they were everywhere but here in the rust belt in Michigan they all rust out because of that box frame
The rust on these trucks..is because people dont take care of them that well.....all you have to do is go to a brushless car wash a few times a week, wash the body and underbody...thats what i do..and.ive never had my cars and trucks rust out..
I trade my 22 accord in for a 24 crv few weeks ago. And because they had to keep it for twos for the undercoating. they gave me a 23 Ridgeline and that was a nice truck. Drove like a truck but was nice. Bought the upper end crv and that thing pretty comfortable for driving.
Scotty these might be good trucks, but if you live in the rust belt, these trucks have rotted away by now. Good luck finding one in any kind of good condition.
Ridglines are not cheap. Sold my old 07 with 200k that was rusting out and had a busted ac compressor for 3400. Posted on marketplace, 2 minute later my phone was flooded. Sold within an hour. I could of sold it for more.
@augustbaby8254 I cringe when he tells people that the VIN number means it was made in Japan. If people catch on and actually listen to Scotty there will be fewer made in Japan to buy from here on out😅😊.😊😮😮😮

My father had a Chevy avalanche almost my entire early childhood. 2009, bright orange, I had so many memories in that truck I wish we still had it.

@@BlargeAdam Face it the word is out. Scotty you gotta love him. If he didn't say it we would never know it.
You right lol
13:33 “Chevrolet dealership” equals “Junkyard.”
Love the way Scotty tells the truth.
That frame has had some repairs/ been welded on any one that messes with toyota trucks know that the frames rot out before the body’s do
#4. 94 Celica with the rear hatch opened and the back seat lowered. A More Affordable $600.00 Option.
Love my 1st Gen Tundra inherited from my veteran Grandad been having fun turning it into an overlander it’s a tank with NO RUST!
Honda Ridgeline is not a truck!
@@ips7125 It's a truck that's not a truck 🚛!!!
a truck all others want to be
Funny that the t100 was basically what the taco is today, it’s actually smaller than the Taco today LOL.
I’ve owned 20+ cars and my t100 is by far my favorite and the one I’ve owned the longest
Yeah that gives me a whole new respect for those. I always thought they looked kind of stupid but I’m all about function and that’s a handy feature.
My T-100 was just totaled in an accident, 340k + miles.
There are 4(!) Toyota T-100 in the whole country for sale. The cheapest one, 1993 year costs $6000, has 300k miles. If you want lower mileage, there is another one with 198k miles for only $24.500. Good deal
Bought a 1 owner 2009 white 4dr (crew cab) Toyota Tacoma TRD 4cyl 4/4 for 10k
At Toyota dealer that had 75 k miles back in 2013 the body was showroom but after buying it I had to do inspection before I could get hard plates (New Hampshire) found out the frame was completely ROTTED!
Was shocked the Toyota dealer had it on their certified preowned lot!
Like that. Yet claimed it was serviced fully and yea it had brand new tires. (How they lifted it to put tires on with bad frame and not know was beyond me)
But Toyota put a brand new frame on it for free..
couple years later sold it for double what I paid for it.
I almost thought the truck was gonna transform into a terminator when you said T-100
An Avalanche with mileage that low for 4K would be a steal but the reality is whoever sold that one was clueless or didn't want to make a profit. Even the high mileage Avalanches sell for double that price and more.
I always thought the square fenders looked goofy.
I work in a collision shop and the most wrecked make and model is the Honda CRV. Always at least 1 in the shop and at 1 instance we had 5
Weird. Why is that?
Another reason that you will be away from the scams is the manual transmission. It its seen on your car, the thief will not think about scamming you. They can't drive them.
Scotty, I heard that the T-100 became the basis for the 1st generation Tacoma. As for the Ridgeline, I have a bud in Hawaii, who has one of the same year with 150K on it, and it runs like new!!!!
Of course it does...150k is nothing...and its a honda..Hondas regularly go over 300k with no major issues, but 150k isn't a lot anyways
Who wants a truck and buys a ridgeline?
Finding a good price on old Toyota trucks went out with high button shoes! Secrets out. Unless it's a rust bucket, people seem to want crazy money for them.
Same with the 'lanche. Was able to snag a low mileage, '07 Ridgeline for a decent price a few weeks ago.
Whatchu talking bout?
High button shoes are the bees knees!
@@jupitercyclops6521 😂😂 So are old Toyota trucks at a good price. And just as common nowadays. 😉
Love my 96 T100 3.4 5 speed!!! 195k miles and everything works as it should, hot heat and cold A/C!!!
Curious of the gas mileage, my 02 4runner with the 3.4 can get as high as 24 highway using the non-ethenal.
@@paulcoenen7918 Idk, I will make it my business to find out on my next fill up.
Sweet truck. Nearly nothing to break or fail.
I’m surprised Scotty didn’t toss that scanner like he tosses the “stupid beauty cover”. 😂
Toyota should give Scotty some kind of recognition. Maybe name something after him.
Used (2006-2011)Ridgelines go for 15-20k in Vegas
6:05 thats a serious wide body to be towing. Was an Aerospace Engineer, we call a twin aisle a wide body
My dad recently sold his Honda Ridgeline back to the dealership for a recall. 250k miles. I bought it for him 4k. Dealership bought it for 6k. If he didnt sell it back to him after the "recall" they wanted him to sign papers where they weren't liable for insurance purposes.
every brand has recalls...
I love those Ridgeline trucks mainly because of the design and quality
@6:20 Toyoda cheats emission testing with the turbo thingy but it only works in partial load where most tests are conducted. If the truck has to work hard, it consumes a lot of gas.
I love my 1992 Toyota 2wd pickup. Has 174k on it and runs great yet and gets 22 mpg on the highway. It is the 2.4 with 5 speed. Body is pretty nice but frame is going.
Then put some oil on the frame if you are able or sell it to me so I can save it😅
The Honda Ridgeline was NOT available in 2 wheel drive. They're all ALL wheel drive (as opposed to 4-wd). I have a 2008 with 206500 miles and you can't even hear it run at idle. Love it!
Neato design on the Avalanche
I am still amazed by a 2013 Sequoia RWD. With only 47k miles, it might be my last rig.
Sounds like a shitbox
I can't find any of "these cheap" cars in west Texas. $12,000 to $20,000 yes
It's Texas, can't LOOK like you're struggling to "make it" ( any more). Have a saying there ( like the Dutch so but "slightly" different) ... Starts with "All hat and !"
@@Aldina_halilovic that means ?
My 2005 Avalanche's Radio got so HOT i thought it would Burn Down but Chevy claimed nothing was Wrong with it
They just quadrupled in price scotty, none to be found unfortunately 😢 glad to see ur not dying and still throwing out the vidz😂👍
Toyota needs to pay more attention to you Scotty. Love Toyota's but critical also. I have 3 Toyota's myself ❤❤
Scotty's wisdom is not common, it's just good thinking.
The rust on these trucks..is because people dont take care of them that well.....all you have to do is go to a brushless car wash a few times a week, wash the body and underbody...thats what i do..and.ive never had my cars and trucks rust out..
Toyota T100 👍🏽
Honda Ridgeline 🤙🏽
Chevy Avalanche 😮
My 2001 b3000 is doing good..Mazda (Ford Ranger)..
You can't go wrong on that Chevy truck with a fuzzy steering wheel that's got to be an instant sell!!
T100 and Ridgeline are Great... The avalanche I'm set with lol😅
Toyota was scared to sell a full size V8 truck back then, so they made the T-100 with the anemic V6.
I trade my 22 accord in for a 24 crv few weeks ago. And because they had to keep it for twos for the undercoating. they gave me a 23 Ridgeline and that was a nice truck. Drove like a truck but was nice. Bought the upper end crv and that thing pretty comfortable for driving.
what a clean t150 wow looks almost new
Try finding an older used Toyota truck in decent condition for sale. Rare as finding dinosaur bones in your back yard.
Scotty these might be good trucks, but if you live in the rust belt, these trucks have rotted away by now. Good luck finding one in any kind of good condition.
A local school auctioned off a couple of these a few months ago, about 130kmi on them. They went for about 3500
I think Scotty has used every scan tool ever made.
Those bell sounds in the background reminds me of the movie T2 judgment day as he’s walking around the avalanche 😅
I’m tired of how informed everyone is. Thanks to the internet. Hawks with eyeballs of everything.
I personally luv these v6 Tacoma really nice 👍
That shift sound at 11 minutes in- ooooOph that was good! I felt it while hearing it! lol
Scotty is the most interesting guy to listen to! Interesting if you give a crap about his topic or not! 😅
Ridglines are not cheap. Sold my old 07 with 200k that was rusting out and had a busted ac compressor for 3400. Posted on marketplace, 2 minute later my phone was flooded. Sold within an hour. I could of sold it for more.
Thank you, Scotty!! Informative and educational as always
Edit: Now everyone knows and it’s not cheap anymore.
@augustbaby8254 I cringe when he tells people that the VIN number means it was made in Japan. If people catch on and actually listen to Scotty there will be fewer made in Japan to buy from here on out😅😊.😊😮😮😮
Exactly 😂
True there are still a few avelanche in the 5k range but all have more than 100k in miles 😢
Toyota made the best 4 cylinder in the R engines of the late 70s /early 89s
1st Gen Ridgelines in Southern California are averaging 8-9k. T100s are 6k and up. I dunno what Scotty is talking about.
Mate, it's a Toyota HiLux. We've had them in Australia since the 70's.
Before I bought my Tundra I owned a T-100 with the v6, it was great, now I have a 2013 Tundra 4x4 with over 200,000 miles. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
