With rumours flying around that Murray Gold might be leaving I really hope the fan show interview him too. He's left a huge legacy on the show in the last 10 years with his music. It would be an absolute shame if Murray is not given a decent send off!

I thought Twice Upon A Time was a great send off for him, it featured so many callbacks to some of his best scores since 2005, with Thirteen even having The Ninth and Tenth Doctor's Theme during her introduction.
There has been no official confirmation, so they are rumours.

I've never had a problem following Moffat's storylines
It's a mass audience, mass-appeal show which unfortunately means that there is a percentage of people watching who have difficulty in maintaining their concentration to the end of a Tweet or have difficulty comprehending the complex coding of a traffic light sequence.

I will miss you, Steven Moffat. You made some things wrong but also made many wonderful things; thanks to you I will never look again to an angel statue without fear, I will never enter in a library without thinking that Vashta Nerada could kill me. Ignoring the jokes, I think you wrote some of the most beautiful episodes of Doctor Who. As I said before, I will miss you, as I missed RTD when he left. I swear I will always remember the joy, the hope and the tears that your era brought to me. Good Luck with your future jobs and good luck to Chibnall.
Moffat is one of my greatest story writing heroes! He has made very amazing content and he knows what will drive the fans nuts. Both Sherlock and Doctor Who were exciting to watch and I shall miss him doing the show.

I actually love that both the first shot we ever see of him as the Doctor _AND THE LAST SHOT WE EVER SEE OF HIM AS THE DOCTOR_ are both of his eyebrows. Literally, the attack eyebrows are the bookend of his run, perfectly encapsulating who his incarnation was.
The Matt Smith years were full of to be continued cliffhangers and if you watched them on release date you had to actually wait until the next show. Loved it

I personally loved RTD and Steven Moffat. Their very differences is what I like about them. Moffat is my personal favorite because I prefer his style of storytelling and Eleven is my Doctor, but they are both great in my opinion and brought something special to the show. Can't wait to see the new direction.
Doctor Who isn’t about eras, or writers, or which was better than which, no one deserves hate for working on this show. Doctor Who is Doctor Who, no matter what. For that I will always love it.

I Love how Moffat is suddenly so relaxed and talks about everything in a very honest and open way. He did a great job on Doctor Who i'm gonna miss him
I would have liked to hear more about the post-Eccleston discussions on The Day of the Doctor. Moffat says that he brought up other Doctors, but I imagine McGann was the only serious choice. Whilst I am glad that Hurt ultimately took the role, it's a pity that the BBC was so against McGann.
Well, there is a part three on the way that covers Moffat and Ecclescake's meeting, so maybe there'll be more.
I think the Chris we hear Moffat mention in the clip from next week is Chibnall rather than "Ecclescake"

Loving this series. I think it shows Steven Moffat under a different light, a kinder, more rational one. People have been demonizing him for years now, ignoring the many interviews and conventions where he has talked lovingly about the show. Excited to see the rest 🤩
Just re-watched The Beast Below and hooo boy that was a good episode! The episode actually brought a tear to my eye towards the end like it’s special episodes like this one which makes Moffat the best writer in the history of Doctor Who!

Since JNT, the hallmark of being Doctor Who's producer is an outsized ego. Frankly, it's kinda necessary to navigate some of the waters of fandom, but it's absolutely there, and huge. RTD and Moffat just have a knack for self-deprecation in public.
finally, someone mentions the massive shift in cinematography that happened when Moffat took over! i've always noticed that as one of the major differences between his era and RTD's time, but hardly anyone discusses it. for the record, i adore the cinematic take on Doctor Who that Moffat's directors brought to the show, i couldn't stand the made-for-tv look of RTD's episodes.
Hear hear! The Eleventh Hour is gorgeous. The show is so well-shot, I envy Chibnall having this kind of cinematography as a baseline to get to improve on.

joeuphonium I actually love the look of both! The “made for tv” look suited the drama-style era of the ninth and tenth doctors, whereas the cinematic style suited the 11th

I HATED the overuse of bright colored lights to make everything look 'sci fi', it was so lazy. i swear it got to the point where a sontaran two parter was just 90% pink. ugh.
Steven is so right about the negative side of the fandom.
It's not the negative side of random, it's the negative side of certain fans who shout loudly that "this isn't proper Doctor Who" simply because it doesn't fit in with their headcanon.
I mean, I have problems with certain DW episodes (Kill The Moon and Forest of the Night in particular), as do most fans, but I don't go screaming my head off and being obnoxiously unpleasant simply because I have problems with them.
The Cypher Im okay with that. What i mean are the fans that say what they think with no filter, like insulting the writers, calling them horrible names and stuff like that. Its wrong. Doctor Who’s message (especially this last season) is to be kind. Yes, express what you feel, but always in a reasonable way. Not being rude to everyone.
Is not this fandom - it's any fandom, every fandom! Look at football fans. They're not backward in coming forward if their favourite team perform badly - there's fights on the streets if it's a bad game.
Social media gives access to everyone else so we get to view the whole gamut of human opinion - by writing stuff down online we see the inner workings and raw frustration or delight of a person so when they express something it doesn't come out how it would if they were to do it in person.
"Be kind" or "don't be rude" is not the message of Doctor Who o.O I mean, I just enjoy Capaldi or Pertwee insulting someone or being arrogant just like Tom B. There is no "greater message" behind doctor who, it's just about fun and adventures in space & time.
But, when you leave plotholes, I'm not surprised!
That two parter with the Weeping Angels, was actually the first episode I ever saw of Doctor Who, that was the one that made me fall in love with the show.

One of the best things the Moff ever did was the appointment of Matt Smith!
A great showrunner and a great bloke. He might've missed a few times, but who cares? He had an awesome run at doctor who and I love it. I am also glad to hear he was as heartbroken as me that Eccleston didn't come back for the 50th... Although John Hurt as a replacement was pretty darn good!
Yes, he did miss a few times but then so has every showrunner and I'm sure Chibbers will too.
I found it very interesting to finally hear the full details of how the War Doctor came about. It's very different to what a number of 'fans thought, i.e. that it was deliberately to get to the 'final' regen. This just goes to show that it was more about necessity and one choice leading logically to the next.
The absence of Chris Eccleston and the addition of the War Doctor created a forced continuity, but I believe Moffat managed to piece it all together magnificently. He had his bad days, but he also had days that were far better than just good. Oh well... :)
People are gonna do their usual 'Omg bring back RTD, Moffat sucks' but I'm actually kind of sick of it.
I love RTD, he brought Doctor Who back from cancellation, doing the impossible, however, people have to give credit to Moffat. Under Moffat, he has overseen the succesful continuation of the revivied series of Doctor Who. Furthermore, he has written 19/25 of the highest rated episodes of all time on iMDB. Sure, he had a few misteps as a writer, but who hasn't? Moffat has personally written some of the best episodes of Doctor Who ever including 'The Eleventh Hour', 'The Pandorica Opens', 'Heaven Sent', 'The Doctor Falls', 'World Enough and Time', 'A Christmas Carol', 'Blink', 'Day of the Doctor' and so many more.
When it was announced Moffat became showrunner, there are emails from RTD to him saying that under anyone else, Davies would be worried about the show's future and Moffat was the only person he trusted with the show.
People need to stop saying that Moffat ruined the show. If anything, Moffat has garunteed that Doctor Who will never truly die. If the show had been cancelled after RTD, it would be seen as a 'Well, we tried' thing and the fate of the show was all up to him. However, by showing more showrunners have continued, and the show is still alive means it's never truly going to end.
I wouldn't say the show will never end, I mean, what if something bad happens and we all die? Who's left to make all the Doctor Who?
I think the show will probably last as long as humanity does though or at the very least, longer than I'll ever live, even if there is an occasional hiatus while the show waits for a new ideas and new talent to revive it.
I think Moffat definitely did a lot of good for the show, but also a lot of bad that shouldn't be overlooked. Just saying what I think here, you don't need to agree with it. I think Moffat started out very strong, but over the course of series 6 and 7 a lot of his episodes felt disappointing to me.
Capaldi's era felt like it was gradually getting better, and I think series 10 was the one that convinced me Moffat still knew what he was doing. He's written genius things, but the occasional misstep happened a little more occasionally for him than for RTD, if you ask me.
In general I prefer RTD's era (not denying it had its mistakes back then, too, but less frequent in my opinion) and I think Moffat has made a lot of mistakes, but to call everything he's left behind on DW horrible is wrong, too. He didn't kill the show, but sometimes he did come a little closer to that than what I felt comfortable with.

+pulk pulkman's Strictly speaking I don't disagree with your first line but using using good and bad is too black and white for me. I would say that he did a number of things that a lot of people didn't like, not that it was bad, because obviously a lot of people also loved those same things. Obviously, it comes down to the whole personal preference thing. Season 6 and 7 weren't helped by the breaks (which we know he had no control over), similar to how the last big writer's strike affected all the US shows a few years back. As it's in that same area I found it very interesting to see hear Moffat say how the War Doctor came to be and how different it is to what a lot of people assumed, i.e. increasing the incarnations so he could deal with the 'final' regen. That's the first time I've heard him mentioned that much detail and I can understand now why it happened, one thing inevitably led to another.
I think Moffat and RTD had about the same number of missteps and mistakes, just very different ones. They both tried to do things (and add things) differently to the classic era, of which some worked and some didn't. Overall, both did an excellent job with my preference going towards Moffat. The yearly casting change was one of the negatives about RTD's era, along with the non-regen regen. For Moffat, I think his low points were relying on the reset button too much for both plot and characters (although I understand his reason behind it) and creating a couple of season long teasers/questions that didn't really go anywhere, even if I liked the 'answer' they could have been so much more.
The problem isn't that he sometimes writes really good stuff, it is that he doesn't know how to run a show

I can only assume that Christel and Moff were zapped by Weeping Angels as they were about to record Part 3
. He makes sure to say that he thinks the props are amazing design but they are massively impractical for television. He even said he Took his eye off the ball for the filming of that story because he was so nervous about the weeping angels story. I just love that he doesn’t cover his tracks and admits his failures and values them as lessons

+Novuh X Agreed. There are many thing they've got right over the years but the one that always stands out the most is the casting. For me, it's Tom Baker and Matt Smith as my faves but they are all great. As the actors often say, their favourite Doctor is The Doctor.

I'm sort of glad that he just forgot about the reapers from Father's Day, it limits the variety of stories you can write that involve paradoxes
Incredible guy, and hilarious too. It's a shame he had to deal with so much negativity instead of dialogue. I know most of you won't probably hear this but... listen people, don't get divisive over trivialities, share some friendly fan discussions now and then, don't make comparisons about who's the best Doctor (you don't choose your favourite sons too? Or do you?) or who's great and who's not, don't go on blind hatred for the show just because it didn't exactly hit the notes you wanted, be critical in a constructive way. I applaud to the immense effort and criativity this Doctor Who team has put to deliver this complex, magical (and continuously evolving) universe to us and not everyone has the potential to deal with such writing luggage of 50+ years, so applaud to them too if you love the show, because without them, the show wouldn't be here for us and for people who need some light in a dark world. And last but not least, be respectful to each other and to this show. There's a lot of content variety and personal nostalgia and we know what that tends to do to people. You are better than that, fellow who fans, I know you are.
Both RTD and Moff are wonderful raconteurs, Moff in particular is always entertaining to listen to, and a fascinating interview subject.

Well, I think the whole Doctor Dying Arc from Series 6, which Moffat remade from this, actually was/sounds more interesting

I have to give Steven Moffat big thumbs up for being honest about making mistakes on Doctor Who. However, their are still good Doctor Who stories he has written. Example of these are The Eleventh Hour, The Pandorica Opens, A Good Man goes to War, The Day of the Doctor, Deep Breath and all 4 of the Twelfth Doctor Christmas specials.

Moffat has been very consistent about one thing: he is *never* going to do an acting role, and most certainly not in one of his own shows.
This is a most excellent interview and review of the outgoing era - all the other links and articles I've read don't cover what's in this. The questions are well-researched (if heavily fandom-based, but that's what fandom wants most) and the interviewee tackles them head-on. You don't need to see any other review than this.

That idea for the 50th actually sounds like a decent idea not gonna lie (maybe not as THE 50th, but still pretty good). Also interested to see the script with 9 instead of War.

really enjoying this interview so far, i’m about halfway through. the questions were surprisingly ‘non-corporate’ (I guess), meaning they challenged Steven on some of his creative mistakes which I wouldn’t usually expect the BBC to do.
I’ve had my ups and downs with Steven as showrunner, I loved S5, 6 and 10, series 8 was okay, but I found Series 7 and 9 to be the poorest series since the revival (I seriously cannot stand most of series 7 in particular). I must admit, I did enjoy Russell’s era a fair amount more overall but I don’t think Moffat did a bad job by any means, I just thought Russell’s was excellent while Moffat’s was pretty good. It’s been my favourite TV show for over a decade so it would take something really bad for me to ever stop watching.
I gained a lot of respect for Steven through this interview, and I appreciate his honesty and the way he accepted a lot of his mistakes as mistakes, which contrasts the usual perception he gets from a lot of who fans.

John Hurt was a casting coup, the publicity was a big plus and the War Doctor was a clever idea well-realized as an older actor who could domineer over his younger (older?) selves. That said, Moffat wrote for 8 so well, it's a slight shame we never got to see him roar back more than he did. BBC could have been more accepting of that idea.

I would love to know the real reason as to why Chris refused to be part of the 50th. Not only is he my favourite new series doctor but I feel the special could’ve been a little better with him present
+The Cypher Yes, to him it was just a job that he did for RTD, he wasn't a big fan and had only seen a few episodes. Personally, I think part of it as well was that he wasn't prepared in anyway for the reaction it got. He didn't want the extra spotlights on him. Then there was all the behind the scenes stuff going on as well.
It also didn't help that after his run finished, and he was doing other work, every interviewer would bring up DW instead of his current project. He was polite about it (as he always is) but clearly wasn't interested which some took as rudeness.
He actually put himself forward for the role. He wasn't asked, he requested that he be considered, mainly because he liked RTD's work, and because he wanted to try a lighter role.
In a radio interview he admitted that he clashed with certain (unnamed) individuals on the show, which is why he left so soon. He made a point of not naming them, because they weren't there to give their version of events. Shows what an incredibly courteous man he is.
Such a shame it ended up that way though. Would have been lovely to have had him longer.
I would've love to see Chris and Paul Mcgann in the 50th too, with a few spoken lines. The regeneration from war doctor should've be been done properly.
I know some fans are a little sceptical of Moffat’s era of Doctor Who, but I personally liked it. It actually wasn’t that bad, tbh! 😊👍
No. It was worse. And it's not an era, it's the almost total destruction of DW in almost every aspect.

@@stephenmurphy2212 Clearly you know everything about everyone. I saw Chibs write DINOS and that was okay. I saw Chibs showrun season 11 which was great but fans like you complained so he returned to the Moffat style of a POS and that's what we got with season 12 and that Dalek NYear special with all the Daleks acting dumb and leaving Earth. Moffat ruined DW forever. His episode by episode breakdown is just terrible. A terrible show runner, a bad writer under his own era, and a non-fan who hates Classic Who. I loathe him and his style of DW. Of course there are about 10 percent of his eight years that are good, even 10/10 episodes but that's not a great track record. He's the worst show runner in the history of TV.

Chibs wrote DINOs and I liked that and I thought season 11 was fantastic other than the spiders ep and the Ghost Monument which could have used more action. BUT then Fans who loved the Moffat style complained and Chibs went back to the horrible Moffat style of pouty pout pout Doctor pouting about Gallifrey and the illogical returns from past things and season 12, Moffat style was one of the worst, probably the worst, next to the disgusting season six.
@@charlesmento5968 I don’t care. I liked the Moffat era. Chibs writing is worse and makes Moffat’s writing look better. There were only a few good episodes in Series 11. Chibs writes better Dalek stories than Moff I’ll give him that. Chibs ruined the entire history in one episode.

What Steven is saying about the DW fandom and social media, I really couldnt agree more!
The online fandom has become so negative and toxic and nasty and its incredibly painful.
The reason why Cons are different is just because the people spitting hateful comments online aren't actually fans of the show, they're just bored and need a way to make others feel bad. People pay huge amounts of money and time to go to Conventions out of love and passion. Hatred is just not strong enough, thank god.
people are entitled to their opinions.
Of course it didn't help that at conventions he acted smug about his own writing, put down the classic series, ignored questions about his favorite classic series alien or monster and put as his favorite monster, his own creations, the Angels. He's the worst. Worst fan, worst show runner, worst DW writer under his own era. Under RTD, suspiciously, he wrote good stories.

Its been over 2 weeks , when will we see part 3 ?
I had a lot of issues with Moffat when he went from a one off episode writer to actual series showrunner, but you can't deny he seems to have had a genuine passion and forethought behind how Doctor Who should be constructed on an episode level and an overarching series level. It's sad he didn't stick around to write some individual episodes here and there again, because I think without having the entire show on his back, we could get back to him at his greatest.
Why do people hate on Moffat? He's made fun, interesting episodes and was the writer for 2 of the most loved doctors. GIVE HIM A BREAK
Rule of thumb: there will be people who always dislike the current showrunner, no matter what.
His writing is bad!
He can't write female roles!
All his companions are special!
His comedy never works!
Ahem... case in point...
But, you're not denying it. Problem with Moffat fans is they can't admit he makes mistakes.
Paul Charles Morris he DOES make mistakes but not enough to get all the hate he gets. Also, whats bad about special companions?

Firstly can I just say Christel has a Beautiful laugh, secondly I have this funny feeling that six months, to a year in to he's retirement Steven Moffat will find him self coming back.
i will never be able to express how much magic doctor who brought into my life. it's literally one of the best shows out there. try finding a show as unique as this one. you can't, because it's not possible! I'm quite sad to see moffat go, but I know that I can't change it, and just hope that chris will come onto the show with new ideas! thank you, doctor who, for becoming so near and dear to my heart. :)
He was so honest about his mistake with the Daleks, it makes me hope they have a discussion about Hell Bent next time. Keeping my fingers crossed, i'd like to know what he thinks.
The one timey-wimey thing I wish that was resolved is how Rory and Amy waived to themselves at the start of "The Hungry Earth". I would have learned how that came about but it was never addressed to the best of my knowledge.
