    Sounds like it was choking to death stock. Great side by side comparison! Just bought a 2019 yesterday with 7.4 miles on it and all options you installed plus CCU. Supposedly 65 HP at the axle. Well, I got a 2020 WR450F. At first, I thought it was a monster and a big mistake. However, after riding it today fir a little bit, I feel very comfortable and happy with my decision. I had the dealer install the GYTR ECU kit before hand. This kit installation includes the throttle stop, air box and exhaust mods. This way, it saves me from having to do and have the peace of mind that it was done by a certified Yamaha technician. For those interested, my dealer charged me $190 for the 2 hour installation. Before I use the bike again, I need to decide on how to monitor my hours/miles for regular maintenance. There are several options available such as, the standard hour meter or the GYTR CCU.
    However, what about the multi-function display that comes with bike? According to the owners service manual the came with my bike, the maintenance intervals are measured in miles or months. Do you use the multi-function display to monitor your regular maintenance?
    Thanks again,

    • @dirtniron
      @dirtniron  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      glad you hear you like the bike. I usually run aftermarket hour meter for maint.. but you can also do miles, as long as you stay consistent and do frequent oil changes you should be fine

  • @danielc5205
    @danielc5205 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    As for my stock silencer, I just removed the inter end cap and spark arrester. I'm interested if the GYTR ECU, map switch, and CCU is worth the $540 investment. It's too bad that we can't get chassis dyno results after every mod, like if the $900 full exhaust system really worth the money.

    • @dirtniron
      @dirtniron  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I rode the bike already and its a day and night difference! I will have video out soon. Personally I think you dont need $300 CCU, bike runs so well on GYTR ECU. so the total investment is around $900, exhaust system is $650, ECU $149 and map switch $91

      Dirt N Iron Ah no we just get a slightly different specc by the looks, less restricted, you guys get bikes cars and mods parts and access to parts we can only dream of especially the cost you can buy them at, also the market for second hand bikes especially 2 stroke you have so many more options again peanuts to buy compared to silly money people want for bikes here. Watching Sema recently we couldn’t legally do much of what you guys can do to your trucks and that is changing fast too with the greenie govt movement., don’t get me wrong we can still have fun, but the fun police are strong here. we can’t rebuild a bike anywhere near the cost you can or get access to the suspension companies engine motor gods like Jay, Varner, etc we have guys sure but suspension not as many options and higher costs , you win buddy, ay one time we might have had a land access advantage but that is fast changing as well as the Nazi fun police take over govt as well.Plus the price you buy your WR at you can do those mods and still be ahead, GYTR exhaust system prob set you back here $1000 bike is 15,000 AUD by the time you do suspension though the stock Yamaha’s are very good, would only be a spring rate at most, you could easily be knocking close to 20k for a fricken dirtbike and they wonder why cars and bikes are dropping like flies with new sales, car brands here have dropped by 40% in sales numbers lowest sales in 40years for some brands, bikes are struggling too though Beta will have a great year in 2020 you can’t get an RE in the first shipment all pre sold and base models doing well. If the industry doesn’t wake up soon it’s going to take more the CPR to revive when they realise what’s happening.

I've also heard 2020 models already will come to life when you remove bong from the airbox and baffle from the exhaust. Not even sure if there is this throttle stop screw. And since you did the whole exhaust - what do you think if you only did slip-on - would it be the same or you would still need the whole exhaust?

    I've been undecided between a 2020 YZFX and WRF for weeks. However, its looks like I am now going with the WRF since its more easily converted to being street legal than the YZFX. These mods have steered me away from the WRF but I would rather do them then having to install lights on a YZFX.
    With the 2020 WRF, when you install the GYTR competition kit what is the default map? Is it the same default map as the YZFX? Would I also need the GYTR Communication Control Unit as well? If so, what would be the purpose? I'm not interested in the map switch. I don't want to switch between maps when riding, I want one map for everything. Plus, I don't want the extra button on the handle bars. I have to figure all this stuff out fast since there is only one of these bikes left. Its at dealer that is 400 miles away from me and the next closest dealer is almost 1700 miles away. That is dealers, with a reasonable price.

    • @dirtniron
      @dirtniron  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      you can get just the ECU, it will come with standard map that is very good, I was really happy with it.(not sure its same as fx, but its good) Switch is cheap and allows you to get mild map for gnarly stuff, but its not a necessity. as for the CCU, you dont need it, if you dont want to use your cellphone to tune the bike. GYTR ECU was plenty good for me. Good luck

    • @boelens218
      @boelens218 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dirtniron Thanks for the very helpful information. Yes, I can see the reason for people wanting the map switch for the reasons you pointed out. For me, I would rather have one map that fits all. Maybe, down the line I will get the map switch but most likely, I will pass. If I understand correctly, when adding the map switch you get an additional stock map that is mild. However, you can't change either map without the CCU. The stock, standard map that comes with the GYTR ECU sounds good to me. Yeah, I don't feel the need to tune the bike with the CCU. The only feature of the CCU that I find useful is monitoring the hours. Although, Yamaha makes an hour meter which seems like a better option for me. Thanks again and great channel, keep up the good work!

    • @dirtniron
      @dirtniron  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      ecu comes with two maps, one stock is always on and second one is accessible with the switch, you dont need CCU in order to use these 2 maps. Only ECU and switch and you have 2 very good maps for different conditions. Honestly, I was most of the time in stock map, but once or twice when going up steep rocky section I switched to mild on the fly cuz stock map was little too snappy for those rocks 1st gear slow riding.. I would recommend the switch its only like $60-70 ..

      @@dirtniron Okay, now I understand and thanks for the clarification. I don't plan on riding in technical terrain but you never know. Plus, it's not that expensive like you said. You have really helped me out. I tried calling Yamaha multiple times and got no where. First of all, their hours don't fit my 8-5 work schedule and you can't email them. Second, when I do call them on my 15 minute break at work, I'm on hold for 10 minutes and out of time. Last, when I finally speak to someone, they can't answer any of my questions. For example, the person I spoke with last, didn't even know the WRF had a throttle stop.

    Rado - You must inform your viewers that doing the free mods to free up the intake and exhaust without changing the fueling mapping will make this bike run very lean since it has no feedback mechanism or an O2 sensor like some KTM/Husky models have. This is very bad for the motor and is the reason your bike ran like that at idle. It is even worse at peak power and runs your valves and seats very HOT. You will need to do valve adjustments sooner and soon you will have to do a top end rebuild. Always change air and fuel at the same time.

    • @dirtniron

      Its a fuel injected bike, it has to have O2 sensor. How else would she be able to adjust the fuel air ratio in different elevations and temperatures. But yea, she needs more fuel to unlock the potential and to run proper. I did show it all in the video, new ecu from gytr is the most important

    I heard the 2019 and 2020 wr450f come stock with a brake light. Meaning the stock tail light will light up when the brake is applied. Is this true?

    • @boelens218
      @boelens218 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If so, is it the front, rear or both brakes that light up? I basically already purchased a 2020 wr450f and I'm having the dealer install the gytr competition kit. I'm scheduled to pick the bike up next Saturday with the kit installed. However, I need to know that a brake light sensor call be installed while using the existing tail light to follow through with the purchase. I would be willing to change the tail light bulb but the stock tail light housing and rear fender must stay stock. Otherwise, I wont get the bike. Yamaha said this could be done but they can't give me any recommendations.

    • @dirtniron
      @dirtniron  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      i am not quite sure, i think its wasnt coming on with the brake.. not sure.. but honestly I dont think thats a hard thing to do.. did you try to do some research? there are some aftermarket dual sport kits that have all you need

    • @boelens218
      @boelens218 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dirtniron Yes, I have done a lot of research on the matter. I have spoke with, Yamaha, Rocky Mountain, Baja Designs, Task Racing, Yamaha Service and Sicass Racing. Yamaha tells me it can be done but that's it. They can't point me in any direction for a starting point. Some people say it depends on if there are (3) wires going to the stock tail light. If there are only (2) wires, then it can't be done in the way that I want. Remember, I am waiting this done with the stock tail light assembly. I don't want to mount a different, aftermarket tail light to the rear fender of the bike. That is important to me. I would be willing to replace the bulb and run wires but the stock tail light housing must stay the same. In case you didn't know, I am basically turning the WR450F into a legal dual sport for my protection. Being an Enduro, it's just about there in stock form. I don't need blinkers in the state I live in, just the brake light. This way, if a cop questions me on public dirt roads I would be safe. I plan to ride the bike mostly on dirt and would like to keep the stock tires. Do you ride exclusively on private property?
      On a good note, the Yamaha dealer is installing the gytr ecu kit for me in advance. The ECU kit provides instructions for all the mods that you mention as free mods in this video. It will include the ecu replacement, throttle screw replacement, air choker removal, and exhaust restrictor removal. Yes, I could do this myself but I rather not. I would feel more comfortable having a certified Yamaha technician do it for me. They are charging me $180 which is fair.

    Be careful doing these mods to your WR450F… This engine is an identical (detuned) version of the YZ450FX, which has much more frequent maintenance intervals (stated in hours) vs. the WR450F’s maintenance intervals, which are stated in mileage.
    If you do these mods, the higher revving will result in more engine wear, unless you follow the YZ450F maintenance intervals.

    • @2WheelDerness
      @2WheelDerness 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      not really, having a richer mixture is better for engine life, and this updates are done just to get rid of "emission" limitation and to have more choices of tune. usually on enduro we don't care of top power or high rpm, just want to have good grip, low end grunt. so the bikes are ridden differently, on MX you are full throttle all the time, on enduro we use low speed/low rpm most of time.

  • @lukebradford195

    I think its abit annoying how yamaha have done that. I mean they arnt cheap to buy then you got to start changing things out the box. And if you want it to work better you got to spend a grand on a new exhaust and ecu. They should be coming out the factory like that working 100 percent to its full ability with the restrictors in a box.. if your in a country where these regulations matter then you can put them in youself. I duno im still going to buy one but it seems backwards to me. If i manufactured a bike and i knew people were going to test it out of the box against competitor companies i wouldnt dream of restricting it to 50 percent of its ability.
