    Aren't there supposed to be 7 drain plugs in the V10? From what I've read on the forums

    • @MrBilbilder
      @MrBilbilder 39 นาทีที่ผ่านมา

      I bought a servicekit from Audi, that only included 5 plugs for BUJ engine. It did not include the M18 allen plug seen in other videos. Autodata don't mention removing more than 5 plugs either. So this might be the only correct description out there.
      On the car I'm working on the front panel wouldnt come of, some screws only spinning due to rust. Taking of left wheel and splash guard I managed to access the plug and catch that oil in a plastic bag instead.

    Dude thank you very much! I’ve always taken my R8 to the dealership for service. The last time, they cracked my carbon fiber from splitter so I decided to try an oil change myself. This video made it super easy! Excellent video and thank you!

    drain oil filter first. Now you have half a liter of dirty oil in the system

      Wouldn't it be better to fill the metalcasing (where the oil filter with cap is screw into) with a little bit of fresh oil before starting the engine?

    There are 7 drain plugs on my 2014 R8 V10 (and I'd think yours too). Plug #6 is horizontal on a pipe that can be seen far to the left at 5:48. Plug #7 is vertical and very near plug #1 and is slightly larger than #1 -- Plug #1 is on the oil pump whereas Plug #7 is on the oil pan.

      I referred to the Factory 2015 Service Manual for the R8 v10 Plus and it specified to drain the 5 plugs as illustrated.

    Where do you fill oil ? Do you fill oil in the same cap that has dipstick ?

    • @birit911
      @birit911  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. That is correct

  • @michaelroloff2804
    @michaelroloff2804 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Well, it‘s better to loose the oilfiltercap before opening any drainplug underneath, because the dirty old oil in the filterhousing run‘s down in the pan by opening the cap! In this case you have almost one liter old oil in the fresh oil...

  • @anders949494
    @anders949494 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    i would start with removing the oil filter first, because the filter it made so it dont drain dry every time you stop the engine so it not with out oil pressour every start op. so to get all the oil out you need to loosen and remove the filter, that little plastic end on the filter prevents the filter from draining.

    • @heinz490
      @heinz490 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yep the filter o rings prevent the filter housing running dry like a one way valve

    So I am have a 2018 and I have located four plugs, but there is nothing in front of the left tire to drain on it. How many plugs are there in total 5 or 8? Any information on 2018 models?

    Thanks for the guide, my parents have a RS6 2008, and even if you drain the oil in this brutal engine you're not getting all oil out there is almost 1-2 liter left :).My dad and i have thought about doing it self and not go to the Audi dealer. But you must know what you're doing :)

  • @StarK12trd

    Wow! I never thought this process seem pretty straight forward! But takes a lot of time and lesser cost of simply buying a new fresh full synthetic oil and an oil filter as well as some necessary replacement hardwares.

    Ive heard that priming the oil filter casing is a good idea.
    VW/Audi do recommend that for their regular cars.

    • @birit911
      @birit911  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No priming needed on the R8 since you basically replace the filter element only. The filter housing is attached to engine.

      There is no air block in the dry sump on the R8. No need to open the oil fill cap as it drains rapidly as you can see in the video

    Any engine designer that comes up with 7 plugs to drain an engine should not be designing anything,
    I own Porsches and they also have dry sump systems, only have to deal with 2 plugs. I was seriously thinking of getting an R8, but after seeing this I have to give it a second thought.

      @@xXBurntBaconXx 3yrs late but if someone else reads this, it may help them. The Audi R8 V10 Shop manual states SAE 5W-40 Full Synthetic and it should have the VW/AUDI 502.00, 505.00 spec approval listed on whatever brand you go with. When in doubt, read the official specs or risk damage to the motor.
