    I know this video is a year old but for anyone who might see this in the future hers my experience. I did a full sized bathtub but taped off the surrounding walls. I used about one and a half cans for this and finished with an even coating around the whole tub. When doing this, use long even strokes when spraying and stop spraying when switching directions. You need to use lots of light and even coats. Don’t switch from horizontal to vertical to circles. Be patient with it and keep it even. I did this in a day while doing other diy projects in between. But, at $40 in for 2 cans, this seems to have been well worth it as a solution to revamp the tub. I’ll note that I didn’t sand or prime and just cleaned the tub very well and didn’t come across any issues.

      @@usastrong8088 without sanding and prepping it left a rougher finish as opposed to smooth but it hasn’t bothered me at all, may complicate cleaning a bit? 3 weeks in and I am still very happy with the results. The tub looks new again, there’s no issues with peeling or anything like that. I am very happy with the results.

      I really only needed to do a v shaped area on the bottom of the tub that wore away from water I assume. I sprayed close and it seemed to be more shiny but made a watery mark so I removed that and did it the same as you..farther away and multiple light coats drying in between.. it also feels rough and gritty to touch.
      I'm wondering if I should just buy some sealer or something I don't want the application to wear off over time.

      How well is the finish on your tub holding up since the refinish?

    • @tvvill1999
      @tvvill1999 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@PhilipManfredi-io5ss so I just moved out of that apartment but the tub was painted for about 5-6 months. Now, that’s not the best gauge of quality because that was a shower I very rarely used. With that being said, when I moved out the tub looked as good as the day I painted it. In my opinion if you have a grimy tub that can’t be cleaned, you can’t go wrong with doing the project. I came out with great results and probably still fell short on prep. So if you do all the prep it’ll turn out even better.

    I haven't ever utilized the spray but I was successful with the roll-on and brush kits. I also never worked with fiberglass surrounds or tubs. I always used a primer, no matter what the instructions say. Once the surface is white the risk of color bleed-through was eliminated. I admit I admire you relentless determination.

She said it was because I was as stubborn as a mule. Well I knew Daisy was a sweetheart so I took it as a compliment. Being stubborn was a trait I inherited from my paternal Grandmother so another compliment. Yup, stubborn as a mule works for me, too. Being a wimp just didn't suit my personality. I feel your pain and have listened to many similar comments. I used the tub and basin 2 part epoxy. I too tought a roller would be better BUT be careful as it gets sticky and leaves lint on your paint. Perhaps a foam roller would be the way to go. The paint requires thinning as it was very thick. I continued with a brush and applied 3 coats to a pink bath and there was just enough paint to cover. It's a tricky job for a novice DIY bur moderately happy with the results. Anything better than a pink tub!

    I used the roller (2 part solution mix) rust oleum bath and tile kit a year ago. My brother bought a 20 year old home and the bathrooms had outdated bathroom tiles with evergreen designs and rather than do a complete gut job, I saw this product and thought it would be a great cost saving project. We bought 3 kits for use on bathroom tiles in the ensuite stand up shower and tiles on soaker tub and bathtub tiles in main bathroom. The fumes were extremely strong and although I wore a mask and work safety glasses, it also irritated my eyes. The foam rollers disintegrate and pieces of the foam fibers got stuck on the tile, so make sure you have a few foam rollers on hand. After it was done however, you could see the design of the tile, but completely covered up the green and just looked like a brand new and fresh bathroom. A year later however, there is some yellowing on the stand up shower tiles and the soaker tub tiles, but not in the main bathroom. I would give this product a 2 out of 5 and don't think I would recommend it to anyone now.

    I brought two kits of the roll on and ran out before I was done. I am painting my shower tile my tub and my sink. The tile is the problem because it was darker it is taking more paint. I am having a hard time finding the extra can local and have to order it. It will take over a week to get here. I am hoping it will be OK to continue since my other coats will be dry. Also I did my tub about 5 years ago. It was still in good shape but was chipped in a couple places. I decided to redo it, I didn't peel of the old paint. Now it isn't taking well in some areas. Well honestly, I had painted my tile about 10 years and wanted to go white. I had a hard time getting the old paint off. I used paint remover and some got on my tub. It is kind of a mess but I am sanding the parts that aren't doing well in the tub and hoping I can fix it with the new kit. I was thinking of getting the spray but will try the roll on for now. This job has turned out to not be cheap or easy. From the time I ordered my other two cans to now the price has gone up to over $10. So far it is looking better.

    A large surface will take a large amount of paint and if you are moving to fast it will be splotchy. You need to work out an area @ a time and not just make a lite pass over the whole area . Not to mention the fact that it takes some experience to do it so that it doesnt run when you are applying the correct thickness. You might have been happier with roll on product. That is a lot of real estate to try and spray out .

      I almost wonder if maybe the problem is that the spray doesn’t combine properly which causes the finish to be powdery and dusty. A lot of folks have commented on this video saying that when they use the roll-on kit they got supreme results as compared to the spray on. I haven’t been able to try a new kit over the top of this yet because I have a project on the other shower that’s preventing me from redoing this tub, but I imagine if you sand it down and clean it with some barkeepers friend and then use a different kit with a roll-on application it may go a lot better! Good luck!

    I used the ones in the cans.. got a respirator, thought I prepped enough ( it wasn't sticking well in all parts), had two fans and all my windows open, and I had to stop after the first coat because the stench was awful. My chest started hurting and only found out after that it's EXTREMELY DEATHLY TOXIC. I don't know why they sell this stuff for the general public. It shouldn't be allowed. I'm afraid I have damage to my lungs and heart now. I had to sleep over at a friends the day of and have had the fans on, including the one in my kitchen above the stove, and my windows open since - I'm slowly peeling all the shit off. Guess I'm just gonna have to stick with mismatching beige, black and pink tiles.

    I'm always surprised to see DIYers use cloth masks when using this stuff. You should be wearing one of those respiratory masks. I hope you're ok. Sorry the project didn't work out the way you wanted. That is stressful. Maybe spray paint is just OK for smaller projects like a vanity. I see some having success with it and others not so much.

    • @jennywithay8344

      I agree if I had to do it over again I would get a high-quality mask for dealing with strong on fumes and dust! I think there’s a chance that maybe this spray Epoxy might work better for porcelain surfaces in small sections like you said or maybe made of tile or something. Once I get to attempting a touchup with the roll-on kit I’ll definitely list some progress pics and updates 😊
