Brass is harder than aluminum right? I'd say go easy on the block as after awhile you probably will do slight damage to the threads. You can even see what looks like aluminum dust after you go at it. Albeit a tiny amount but still an amount.

I wouldn’t know if this happens to the best of us, but it does happen to me.

I removed the heat break, nozzle, and heater cartridge while it was still attached to the printer. I just heated it up to 240 C though you need to be really careful. The only issue I really had was getting the heater catridge out. I finally figured out I had to heat it up again and remove the thermal couple screw. Then it came right out.
Now comes the cleaning part. Interesting way you cleaned the threads. I saw a couple people use a tap to clean the threads.

I use a creme brulee heater to get the nozzle red hot and dunk it hot into a cup of cold water all the pla/pet lossens quickly and the rest will whipe off without force

i use a blow torch to burn the plastic away. then use a plastic brush to clean off the crap. if you use wire brushes to clean you remove metal from the threads.

Would soaking in gun cleaner (or other) solvent help get that gunk off?

I've tried acetone, but it depends on the plastic. This was a PETG clog, and petg is super chemical resistant
