They cast a 1.65m small comedian actor to play Roland, the 1.85m tall soldier. And then turned the "Paladin" Roland -- who in the games is a serious, brave, no-nonsense commander type of few words -- into a slightly cowardly stereotypical "black comic relief guy". Geez.
The height isn't even an issue for me, look at castings like Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, you can ignore smaller details like that and still have the actor embody the character, but Hart was just bad casting from the get go!
“…Stereotypical…comic relief guy” (If I typed it out YT wud delete it for some reason). And yet i heard this movie was tryn’ to be woke too… Given I haven’t seen it. I could, for free. But I’d rather not unless I’m ungodly bored…
Sounds like my fears in regard to our favorite Psycho Krieg upon seeing the trailers were justified, nay they were surpassed: They didn't bother to explore this sane Inner Voice in elation to insane Outer Krieg. I had feared the movie scriptwirters would simply make him a mute, remove all his "psycho poetry" frenzy rants and monologues and turn him into dumb "Hulk smash!" Sounds like they didn't even understand that his lines are not mere ramblings without rhyme or reason... Outer Krieg's dialogues in BL2 evolve in the course of the game (starting with his "Meat Bicycle for Two" character trailer) from seemingly nonsense aphasia where the sense is conveyed through tone of voice, to increasingly complex sentences as he becomes saner while being around Maya. To the point where what he is saying is perfectly coherent but rather gruesome, showing Outer Krieg's morbid humour, and phrased in a blood-thirsty flowery language of the sort used in Old Norse poems like Beowulf. By the time of BL3, if we find his audiologs, Inner Krieg has managed to claw back enough control over their shared body that the sane parts of him can actually communicate verbally again, with both personalities sharing control over the vocal cords.
Yep! They had a chance to do something REALLY cool with Krieg, not just as a good character point but it could have been funny and given him a lot more depth, but sadly the writers were not capable of that and I am sorry to inform you that yes 90% of his lines do revolve around "I'm gonna smash your head bone" and other generic "smash" dialogue like that, no inner monologue, no duality, complete butchering of his character... and yet I stand by my statement that he's probably the best and most faithful character in the film!

Impressive that Kate can do that ambidextrously, though. It's just too bad it's not being done purposefully. 6:08 That's supposed to be the Vladof Infinity machine pistol. Notice how it doesn't have two barrels. It has one barrel and a lug. 9:07 False. She was originally 27 in BL1 and 32 in BL2. They retcon'd her age to 22 as per BL1, probably so she'd be 34 instead of 39 in BL3. Because how dare a female character be 39, right? Im still just blown away by the fact that they couldnt piece together a good borderlands movie with enough content to make multiple seasons out of. Incredible.

Anyways, glad I just stumbled on your channel. This content is great and I really look forward to more. I'm also digging through your old stuff. Always nice to find a creator with a nice back catalogue.
Haha! Arguably ALL of Uwe Bolls films are more faithful to their source material than Borderlands was! And like I said his films may be bad, but at least they're FUN bad, doesn't matter if it's postal, house of the dead or any of his films, you get the boys together, grab a few beers and stick any of those films on, you are GUARANTEED to have a much better time than watching this film under ANY circumstances!
@@ScrewLooseGames hell yeah you right, first time I watched Postal was with a couch full of friends and all of us were sloshed. The amount of booze needed to make borderlands fun would kill a horse 😪
While like I said none of the casting was right, I still had a slither of hope that "surely with a cast like this it can't be THAT bad! Why would all these A-listers put their name to something like this if there wasn't at least SOMETHING to it?!" your prediction was 100% correct though!
So bad it makes those Uwe Boll movies look good, and the Mila Jovovich Resident Evil movies look great. It even makes the Netflix show and even Jovovich in Monster Hunter look good… … …NOW THAT’S sayn’ something.
The only one of them I'd say is even remotely close to this movie is the Jovovich Monster Hunter film, but even THAT was more entertaining than this movie and was more faithful to it's source material (and spoiler alert still wasn't very faithful at all but still!)
@ScrewLooseGames yes! I don't know why, going on I thought it was like 80 minutes and it just kept going and going. It was so much time for them to do nothing really. Big reveal at the end, the siren from the first game is a siren in the movie?!? Whoever wrote this is brilliant!
I actually vomited during the end credits. Not because of the movie itself, but it was more comedic than anything on screen. The way this film was edited and presented feels more like a season of a TV show cut down to be a movie.
I’m just waiting for someone to talk about Mouthpiece just being thrown into this film and not even saying a word, his whole character is in his name and he’s just… there. Like yeah there’s more important characters that’ll piss you off but like come on man. Shit just pissed me off watching it
I think to them he's a *jingles keys* character. They were making the film but because they couldn't be bothered to do their homework they just saw him and thought "oh that looks like a cool enemy! Let's dress up a goon like him for the ending" hoping that's all he was in the game and being able to jingle the keys in our faces like "look! look! It's that armour from the game right? that's all it is armour right? See! We know what we're doing! You like this!" and that would be enough.
@@kassanpotter4103 he's not even mouthpiece. I think its Krom in this "alternate universe"? I remember hearing from another video that its Krom, as in the Krom using the turret from BL1. They just made him use mouthpiece's helmet for some unknown reason.
Casting, plot (lack of) ... Ugh too much to list honestly. I was even okay with them "being creative" with it but they... Why even call it Borderlands? I mean it wluld be bad still but at least it wouldnt drag the games down too.
I did make a point of saying "I'm not the biggest borderlands fan" and have been told in other comments the generic pistol was the infinity pistol so I'll hold my hands up on that, but I stand by my view of when I think of Borderlands guns I don't think of the manufacturers of the guns or the names or aesthetics, I think of a gun that fires lightning, a gun that shoots acid, a gun that shoots other guns, guns that scream, guns that make peoples heads grow until they pop, guns that actually have a bit of creativity and uniqueness to them, none of which this movie had.
I love how energetically you hate this movie. You delivered possibly the best explaination I could have expected from a borderlands review. One thing it did was get ppl playing borderlands again by advertising it. Another reviewer said it best I'm paraphrasing "not all stories are suited for all media" But in the hands of someone who loves Borderlands I'm sure this could have been really amazing but alas...a video game to film adaption that's worse than Mario....But much like Deadpool, in the right hands something like this could be far better, but gaming is better entertainment anyway.
Thank you! It's definitely the most energetic I've been in a recording session purely because nothing good nor bad has hit me quite like this movie did yet! And yes! Seeing all the games on sale now has made me want to dive back into them especially the first 2! Just so I can remember what GOOD Borderlands was like! And you're completely right if this film was in better hands there is SO much potential here! Yes fans didn't/don't WANT an adaptation of this but if it was done right? It had the ingredients for EVERYTHING it needed to be a success, action, comedy, adventure, cool characters, a world that prioritises fun over everything! But apparently the writers and Eli Roth didn't get the memo!
I'm not a fan of Eli Roth but in his defense, it looks like the film he shot got hacked to pieces in edit. Not saying it would have been a good movie even if they had let the R rated material stay (as others have said, it's a deeply flawed concept and the casting is terrible) but when the artists all start taking their names off a production, you know it's a mess.
Agreed, while being the director he does hold a lot of blame, just the way it's edited (like I said with nothing between scenes and just jumping from A to Z) I would be really curious to know just how much of the film is on the cutting room floor and who is REALLY responsible given how every writer that's been accused of being the fake name credited writer on the film has come out and said "no that's not me, that's not my burner account".
I never mentioned it in the video but from the very first trailer I had the EXACT same vibe! "Oh! It's another 'we want to be guardians of the galaxy' movie number 672!"
Yeah that's all my bad! While this was a reasonably rushed video as it was impromptu and there are others I am working on that I want to put more time into I'm still quite new to the video editing/making world so still learning how to do things and audio mixing is DEFINITELY my biggest downfall, I'm also on nights at my job at the moment so my brain is a bit of a puddle, not an excuse just a factor. TLDR: I'm new here, tired and not good at audio mixing yet.
Let’s be real, absolutely no Boarderlands fan ever wanted or asked for a film adaptation. Before the shitty casting and lackluster trailers came out my reaction was “hell nah” we all knew deep down that a game essentially about a bunch of mercenaries motivated by greed in a never ending quest for shinier guns would not make for a decent movie.
On the list of video games I want to see adapted into a live action show or movie Borderlands was not on that list! Regardless though if we're living in the worst timeline (which we are) and they did it, you have to ask yourself "is there at least potential for this to be good" and the honest truth is yes! In the right hands between the stories, characters, world, action and comedy there's MORE than enough potential for something like Borderlands to be great, sadly though this is still the worst timeline so we got the worst possible outcome.
@@ScrewLooseGames you are absolutely right. There are some incredible stories in between the mayhem like the love Krieg has for Maya. The whole tale’s story, the way Tina coped with the death of Roland. There are so many heartfelt and genuine moments that happen in between. I’m not saying I never wanted a good Boarderlands movie, I guess I became Jaded after the writers of Boarderlands 3 completely stripped all the down Ryhs and Vaughn to dumb caricatures of themselves and made so many bad writing decisions and it made me feel like the people running the show don’t even understand their own source material. That’s just the tip of the iceberg I’ll spare you the rant. This is the worst timeline though, and it’s like watching a good friend of yours spiral into a cycle of bad choices

Im still just blown away by the fact that they couldnt piece together a good borderlands movie with enough content to make multiple seasons out of. Incredible.
That would require them looking at the source material sadly which I'm gonna take a wild stab in the dark and say that they didn't!
@@ScrewLooseGames you're right. It's just sad. Ya know? They had so so so much material to make something amazing from and just ruined everything they could. Anyways, glad I just stumbled on your channel. This content is great and I really look forward to more. I'm also digging through your old stuff. Always nice to find a creator with a nice back catalogue.
Oh man you hit me with that Skag Gully music 🕺🕺
👯👯
Hey hey, watch it! Postal is actually pretty good. And it is WILDLY more faithful to its source material than Borderlands, or his other movies 13:34
Saw the cast mentioned about 6 months ago and knew this film would be a load of 💩💩💩
While like I said none of the casting was right, I still had a slither of hope that "surely with a cast like this it can't be THAT bad! Why would all these A-listers put their name to something like this if there wasn't at least SOMETHING to it?!" your prediction was 100% correct though!
It drives me crazy that borderlands 3 is somehow more put together than this movie.
So bad it makes those Uwe Boll movies look good, and the Mila Jovovich Resident Evil movies look great. It even makes the Netflix show and even Jovovich in Monster Hunter look good…
…
…NOW THAT’S sayn’ something.
The only one of them I'd say is even remotely close to this movie is the Jovovich Monster Hunter film, but even THAT was more entertaining than this movie and was more faithful to it's source material (and spoiler alert still wasn't very faithful at all but still!)
I watched it, but I didn't support it at all. I went to the high seas
Did it feel as long for you as it did for me?
Yeah mouthpiece is one of my favorite bosses in the game. Looked like mouthpiece in the movie but apparently it was krom
Casting, plot (lack of) ... Ugh too much to list honestly. I was even okay with them "being creative" with it but they... Why even call it Borderlands? I mean it wluld be bad still but at least it wouldnt drag the games down too.
Almost as bad as the actual series is now? Zing. Also your background music mix is too loud, I can barely hear you talking.
clearly not a fan there were quite a few guns, inc her infinity pistol
I did make a point of saying "I'm not the biggest borderlands fan" and have been told in other comments the generic pistol was the infinity pistol so I'll hold my hands up on that, but I stand by my view of when I think of Borderlands guns I don't think of the manufacturers of the guns or the names or aesthetics, I think of a gun that fires lightning, a gun that shoots acid, a gun that shoots other guns, guns that scream, guns that make peoples heads grow until they pop, guns that actually have a bit of creativity and uniqueness to them, none of which this movie had.

This video sums up brilliantly how awful this film was 😂
UWE BOLL IS A GENIUS. POSTAL > BORDERLANDS!!!!!
History repeats itself with video game adaptations being mediocre
Guardians of the Galaxy 4? These movies are all the same, all the same comedy, all the same action. No difference anymore.
I never mentioned it in the video but from the very first trailer I had the EXACT same vibe! "Oh! It's another 'we want to be guardians of the galaxy' movie number 672!"
Why is the music so loud?
Because Eli Roth is a hack
This is the worst timeline though, and it’s like watching a good friend of yours spiral into a cycle of bad choices
i really don't get it. you literally have the blueprint a.k.a the fucking games to reference on but still, they fuck up everything. music? just fucking take one of the enemy encounter OST's from the games and remix it or someshit.
Or if you don't want to use music from the games then don't be so lazy that you just get generic radio songs and slap them on when they're completely out of place!
@@ScrewLooseGames that too. The whole thing is such a mess lol. If there's one thing to be thankful for, its them not putting any bl2 vault hunters and characters in this movie. Thank god they didn't put Zer0 in this.
@@Cricket0021 Or not a vault hunter but someone like Handsome Jack... Given how bad they did the characters they did use... I can't even BEGIN to imagine how much they'd butcher him!
@@ScrewLooseGames so many ideas for a villain in this movie and they settled for a lame corporation ceo. they could've had a final fight scene with two sirens (lilith and steele) steele's character was pretty much unexplored in BL1 as well, her siren power was unknown.
