Great and informative video until the very end. Don't you tighten your chain to spec to prevent unnecessary wear on the sprockets? You're chain will stretch no matter what, probably more so if it's to loose. You should have shown how you made sure it was all square. The tick marks are usually accurate, but not always and if they aren't, that can lead to excessive chain and sprocket wear as well.

First off great videos, perfect steps and great angles so thanks!
Just one question. How do you know when its time to replace the sprockets and chain. Do they just where out and start to slip or should it be done after a certain mileage?

So everyone recommends changing the sprockets when you have to change your chain. Overtime, motorcycle chains will stretch out and once you get to a point where you can't adjust your chain anymore because it's too stretched out, that's when you need to change them.

Also, Google pictures of worn sprockets. If the teeth on your sprocket start looking sharp or resemble sharks teeth in shape, that's a good time to change the sprockets. Sometimes those will wear before the chain. They are designed to be sacrificial parts like breaks, but if they aren't maintained, one can wear faster then the other. My manual recommends checking and adjusting the chain every 500 miles as needed for optimal wear

Don't you need to flare the rivet heads after pressing the master link?

Great video! I want to do a gearing mod on my Monster 696. I am considering 14T front and 46T rear sprockets.
How do you like the 14T sprocket?
Now that you have experienced doing the 14T sprocket, would you recommend changing both front AND rear ?
Does the bike want to wheelie with the 14T modification? Would doing both be too much in your opinion? Thank you!!

Sean M best decision I’ve ever made. Only thing is you have to shift gears a bit more sooner than before. Ive hit redline multiple times after changing it but youd get used to it over time. I personally like shifting more back and forth and rev matching so its way more fun to ride but maybe you might not like that

Sean M i have not done the rear so i wouldnt know what to tell you :)

Really appreciate the responses! You've got an awesome channel here.
Shifting gears is part of the joy of driving a motorcycle or manual car :)
Let me ask this, then: if you were due to replace these parts, would you install 14T / 46T sprockets? Do you know if going too far from stock hurts the engine?
Keep up the good work. Thanks!!

Sean M engine wouldnt take any harm with gear ratio :) play around with it and see what you like. I personally am very happy with just the 14t in the front. Now, I just want a faster bike like the v4 panigale ;)

My front sprocket is not coming out AT ALL when it looks almost effortless on your side... what's going on?

    • @HansGarage
      @HansGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

You have to twist and match the teeth

@@HansGarage The front sprocket had actually fused to the drive shaft because of rust. Ended up taking an angle grinder with a cutting and grinding wheel to it. Chain is installed now!
