Back in the 80s when I was growing up I used to see cabovers everywhere. Nice to see a classic still being used for what it was intended and not as a show truck
From a diesel techs pov I like the fact that you dont beat on your truck...He gets worked hard but not beat on...nice Pete and that B model Cat sounds wonderful.
It is so nice to listen to the truck when it's pulling up the hills like that, that is what pulling really means. It's a totally different sound it makes when loaded heavy.
I love the hum when running through the gears...brings back my memories 70s-2000s

Lee Hi was always a favorite stop of mine, whether for just a short break and a meal, or a shower, meal, and spend the night. Great homemade food, fantastic service, and a wonderful family that owned it. Too bad it is a TA now.

Great views Steve. and thank you. man I have been off the long haul roads a long time now, I do not miss it. yet I miss it. I can't under stand what I just said. I have been up and down that route your taking, summer rain storms, winter snow/ice storms, saying I got to stop this S***, but once back at the home term. I was ready for the next run. Go figure. LOL We had none of the electronic stuff back then. No cells all phone calls you need a Card/or coins, Paper logs, no cat scales, no electronic maps. Rand Mcnally paper maps was your friend for local work, but the main roads were keep up in the ole grey matter of your head. And yeh watching you. It's like I still know where every bump and hump in the road is. Much blessing to you and the Family. Keep it Safe. One retired lug nut to the one who still keeps grinding. 👍👍 Darn I almost forgot to give a big hello to Mr Orwell. You say it's 50k but he sure sounds happy to be pulling. again you two take care of each other.

Lee Hi truck stop used to be one of my favorite truck stops they always had good food clean showers great service I've been retired since 2008 after 29 years but did I hear you say it's a T/A now

I so love the veiw! I used to be a truck driver. I drove a cabover when the driver was sick or unable to drive a trip. Normally I drove a 4300 International and a long nose Pete. I hooked up with a girl, got married and she said I want you home at night.....she did not last long and I got anther job. Sad that I met her.

A friend of the family (on my dad's side) is a truck driver & he's always been a fan of the cab-over semi-trucks.
I'm not sure as to why, but, that's just me...
love the way orwell talk`s.Puffing some black smoke until the turbo kick`s in and give him some air,that truck you could probably run without any instruments,and tell it`s running great just by smelling,feeling and hearing,a lot better than putting your trust in a computer....Love your videos,greetings from Norway :)

That stretch of I 64 between the beginning of it at 81 till the 77 interchange is a scenic peaceful drive. Glad you were able to catch some of it. I'm not even going to guess what kind of miles per gallon you were getting with that beast of a load making you have to push Orwell up the hills. I'll be interested to see how West Virginia's hills are with that big load.
Love to hear a proper engine and gearbox work for their living . All the other rigs that passed you on the hill can never take away the old cab over . Big respects from the uk …
Orwell is a beautiful truck. Love your videos. I’ve been driving since 1978. I still enjoy it. Your videos are the only ones I watch. The others seem to try and teach me something I’ve learned decades ago.

used to ride with my dad back in the day, if you didn't had an experience in a cab of a old school semi you never gonna know what is it about... good job!

I regularly gross 100k+ pulling agriculture spray rigs around my area. It's nice to see a pro trucker such as yourself having the same struggles with hills that I do. I also never get tired of the Cat putting in some hard labor!

Used to run across Ontario Ca...with 45k of drag links out of GMs Saginaw plant in Buffalo. We used Itl. 9670s with 315 Cummins and 10 spd....every hill was a challenge....35 on a 65 ,4 ways on and downshifting constantly ....lol....

My load yesterday was 70k, getting up the hills was a challenge for the C-15. Truck and trailer weigh 50k unloaded.
good to see you checking the height. near me, last year, an overheight load demolished an overpass. it was a 4 lane city street overpass and half of it had to be totally replaced!
I use to run corrigated from Richmond to Dayton....
with my C-12 but no way near the weight you have.....
Those hills didnt bother me that much until the last one near Beckley ....
Still we killed it.... an that damn ORWELL IS TRULY KILLING IT.....

Steve surprised that where you picked up the Wrecker at, that they didn't tell you to turn left out of the truck stop that you would have been right there on I-64 west instead of going back down to I-81

That stretch of I-64 has the Toughest Grade east of the Rockies, Sandstone Mtn, that grade will test the Motor, Transmission and Brakes ! Such scenic beauty on that stretch of highway !

That 77 is a nice ride. I vacation in Fayetteville along the New River Gorge.
On Rt19....it's a National Park and Preserve now. Now have to deal with the Federal Park Rangers !

I haul some 60’ double t beams for parking garages that usually weigh 58,000 to 60,000 pounds and they are 14’ wide and gross close to 104,000 pounds
Nice views. Looking forward to the rest of your trip. Last October was on 81 South out of Pa to Winchester, Va for a golf trip. Beautiful scenery all the way down and lots of history.

Orwell was a working pretty gud. I hauled water water circulation plant fr Salt lake City n I grossed out at 196.000 pound now that was a long trip to the power plant in Water Flow New Mexico
