    This is why it pays to have a CB radio. If he cant get police on channel 9, then the other eastbound truckers he could talk to could give them a heads up when they get to the scale house.

    • @michaelrocker9000
      @michaelrocker9000 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      This is the year 2023. The police`haven't had CB radios in their cars for years and I doubt there any more volunteer groups that monitor CH 9 like the used to. BTW Ch 9 evetime I've listen to it was people talking in Spanish.
      I agree it pays to have a CB but what good is it if a driver isn't using it. In some area out West they use Ch 14.

    Steve. Wallace was a large silver mining area in the day. The mines have closed. It was known for having a large number of houses of womanly entertainment. One trivia fact it had the last traffic light between Seattle and Boston before I 90 was completed. The Milwaukee RR when bankrupt in the 70’ and the roadbed was primarily abandoned. 😊

    • @jaideedave
      @jaideedave ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used to live in BC and myself and friends knew all about Wallace Idaho back in the 80s. I spent a weekend there once and can back up your claims. Lol I flew from Vancouver to Spokane and took a Greyhound the rest of the way. Good memories.

    • @Silver_Turtle
      @Silver_Turtle ปีที่แล้ว

      The "houses of womanly entertainment" were ACTUALLY listed in the Yellow Pages! I forget what category they were listed under, though.🤔 As for "Ol' Yellow, Red and Green", it's either still in the town cemetery or been exhumed and is in the local museum.
      DISCLAIMER: Lived in the area for a few years. Actually pulled a prank on a colleague -- a pre-paid all-nighter at one of these establishments. [he never figured out what happened]

    Just glad it wasn't Orwell that broke down. As far as cell service I am surprised that there was no signal on a major roadway. I knw where I am off of US 64 I lose cell signal a few miles out of Hayesville till i am just about in Franklin NC. In the 9 years I have lived here nothing has changed.
    Stay safe. I wanna see some pics of the CL 9000.

      Same thing happened to me in Ohio on I-70 , 4 miles east of Quaker city in the winter time at night. It was a long cold walk downhill, in blowing sleet and snow to get to a telephone. It was 1998, and hardly anyone had a cellphone then.

    The Milwaukee was the last transcontinental thru the PNW. THE BNSF operates the original Grean Northern and Norther Pacific tracks in the area. The Milwaukee road teackage towards the end was known as the longest branhline in the end as you would only have one east bound and one west bound between terminals....... being the last one thru they got the worst route, fewer potential customers, but they had the most scenic route and was popular when they ran passanger trains. There was a book written about that line it was called the nation pays again

    The Milwaukee Road ("Chicago, Milwaukee, St Paul & Pacific) were latecomers to the Pacific, and consequently got the worst route! The Pacific section (thru Washington, Idaho and western Montana was electrified, westwards from Harlowtown, Montana. Traffic never really met expectations, and chenging from electric to diesel traction, and vice versa, at Harlowtown was not really a way to run a railroad. MILW went bust in the '7o's or early '80's, and BN did take over some of their routes, but not through Idaho.

    Its easy to miss a shift and being in cabover with all linkages or cable it happens. As a pete tech I drive so many trucks we're getting away from full manual to automated (NOT AUTOMATIC). We get cabover from time to time some have every well worn-out linkages. I have 320 model concrete pumper truck with manual very rare to see. Had to push shifter against doghouse to make shifts. Had few 379 with worn out shift towers and bang the dash getting your fingers
