    Otto Klemperer is undoubtedly one of the legendary conductors of the 20th century. Between 1959-1973: Otto Klemperer was appointed Music Director for life and then Principal Conductor of the Philharmonia Orchestra. In spite of the imposing size of this symphony orchestra, Klemperer has always succeeded in combining power and musical intimacy. He delivers the most charming "Siegfried-Idyll" of the entire discography. We have the impression that we are listening to a chamber orchestra with an intimate and shimmering sound. The new mastering allows us to appreciate all the orchestral colors of the Philharmonia as well as the superb acoustics of London's Kingsway Hall and the warmth of the EMI recordings. Here is a Wagner laid bare, intimate, deep and powerful: the music, and only the music.

      I worked a couple of years as an usher at the "old" Met in NYC. Don't know if I ever heard Klemperor, but I heard and watched plenty of Wagner. my first time watching the Gods climb to Valhalla almost knocks me, a wise guy from the Bronx, a Yankee Fan, off my feet. I used to sneak in the girl I married, and a bunch of my urgent friends, after the swell in the reserved seats all left when every first act ended. I wonder if that was done in the Coliseum back then?
      I am listening to this right now.

    Thanks Classical Music for an outstanding recording of Wagner music. Otto klemperer, together with Furtwängles, epitomize the years of glory of the classic German school of conductors who defined the XXth century. Klemperer was specially gifted for symphonic music, ad he conducted Wagner as a symphonic composer. He was not far from the mark. Wagner operas for non savants are difficult and lengthy; this collection is a splendid introduction to the melodies that characterize the higher Wagner's art form, the operas. Quality of the recording, thanks to the remastering, is superb.

    Otto Klemperer es, sin duda, uno de los directores de orquesta legendarios del siglo XX. Entre 1959-1973: Otto Klemperer fue nombrado director musical vitalicio y luego director titular de la Philharmonia Orchestra. A pesar del imponente tamaño de esta orquesta sinfónica, Klemperer siempre ha logrado combinar poder e intimidad musical. Ofrece el "Siegfried-Idyll" más encantador de toda la discografía. Tenemos la impresión de que estamos escuchando una orquesta de cámara con un sonido íntimo y resplandeciente. La nueva masterización nos permite apreciar todos los colores orquestales de la Filarmónica, así como la magnífica acústica del Kingsway Hall de Londres y la calidez de las grabaciones de EMI. Aquí hay un Wagner desnudo, íntimo, profundo y poderoso: la música, y solo la música.

      Corrección: En el Idilio de Sigfrido no toca toda la Philharmonia. Ante la insistencia de Klemperer, el Idilio fue grabado con tan solo 13 músicos, según la partitura original.

    Do you realise that the more spiritually troubled an artist is the deeper they dig into their creative abilities? Wagner, Mozart, and others had personal demons to placate and exorcise, and out of the whirlwind of their personal quests came this kind of beauty. To a point, the human organism must be pressured and traumatised towards the best it can be.

    • @OrangeChair
      @OrangeChair 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well it certainly helps to express those things, but I don't believe it's what makes the artist so great. Vincent van Gogh, with his mental instability, I believe hindered his artisic expression, because if he didn't have it, who knows, we may of had more and better artworks made by him.
