- Have I been cleaning this car with a floor mop and broom for the past 6 months? Yes. Was I doing so because I knew this video was coming at some point? Also yes. Today, we wet sand and polish the BMW E36! I think this really did the Boston Green Metallic paint justice and the car looks really nice in my opinion. I also install the remaining trims and lights to give the car a somewhat finished look. You may think we are approaching the end with this car, buuuuuut. You would be very, very wrong. Boston green is a make or break color for the E36. If its not maintained well it makes the car look very bad. You really pulled out the max out of this color. I would have loved to see a walkaround in direct sunlight. Must be stunning in person.
There will be plenty more of the car man! But I completely agree, when this colour is tarnished it looks absolutely terrible haha

Nice cinematic views and content. But what was the point of 3k wetsand followed by a heavy cut. It's a bit counterproductive. Personally I'd start with like 1500 to get imperfections out and knock down some of that texture. Regardless, looks good
Thanks! Its not counterproductive. Sanding allows you to remove more defects while introducing less heat which is way safer and offers the ability to remove all scratch based defects.

Just inspired - subbed right away as I begin the long road to get my 1996 E36 328i coupe back to its former glory. Owned it since 2006 and now it is over due a restoration. Highly motivating do see this one come alive.
And this explains why you've been crunchy washing this car.

Can you explain what the benefit is of sanding this, seemingly decent, paint?
Seems like a extra step. Why not just heavy compound? And/or just sand defects.
Thanks for watching Theo! So this car has been resprayed in different areas so I’m not entirely sure how much clear is remaining. Sanding like this is an easier way to remove more defects without having to compound longer! Decreasing heat and the possibility of blowouts

Machine sanding is for body shops, it’s a purist thing haha. I’ll wax it eventually but it’s getting painted after the swap so no coating necessary

I always hit body lines when I use bigger blocks! If I was doing a multi step sand I woulda used the bigger ones. But this is simple quick

I just used a quick detailer so I could rinse the dust off it easy. It’s just gonna sit inside until I add better protection next time

What's the benefit of wet sanding over doing a multi stage polish? Is this more aggresive than the compounding stage?
You introduce less heat because you don't have to cut as hard. Less chance of burning through potentially crap resprays like on most of this car haha
@@ChromaticGarage So if I wet sand the whole car (cause my one has fairly old, dull paint) would I still need to do the compounding step on the polisher?

When I got my 46 I never really liked the 36 too much but damn they have grown on me it really is a beautiful progression from e30 to e36 to e46 and I’m a sucker for this green too. Great video as always man 🤙🏼

Looks killer! But i do have a question, why did you do this only a year ago you put tons of work into paint correction and coating?
I never coated it! I wanted to have a uniform finish with the new body kit. As well as remove any defects I didn’t get while correcting it last year. You’ll be real confused when it gets painted soon haha

I always smack edges with the bigger blocks haha. On this small of a car I was cool with the small ones. If I was sanding 2K I would probably use the bigger ones

Why did you spray the polishing pad with the ONR? Extra lube or?
It helps the polish saturate the pad more throughly and not dry out really fast in the areas where you didn’t blob the polish 😊
