I did mine 3 years ago after it started leaking. It was a tough job and I wish that I had seen a video like this. Two things to remember - 1) I did make my own Frankenwrench, which I marked and keep it in my tool box. My wrench is a standard socket sawed down with only enough wrench left to grab the bolt. I also used a wiggler extension 2) The original water pump had a plastic impeller, which cracked and failed. I replaced it with a pump that had a metal impeller. I did not want to have to do this job again!!! I think that I bought the replacement at Pelican Parts? FYI Great video. Next, I'm doing a spark plug change! Thanks!
Great videos, I hope you keep doing these types of videos. I recently changed all four brakes on my 2006 Porsche Cayman S. It appears that the rear brake pads are ceased or holding on to the new rotors. The car would not move. What could I have done wrong? This appears to be a relatively a simple assembly. Looking froward to your comment.
hey thank you alot my first porsche i own and i pretty much figure out everything until the water pump took a dump on me... now my question is i will not be draining the coolant since i already drained it before but i will loose coolant after changing the pump... how many gallons should i used to put back on the car? how many did u use? i am using 50/50 not porsche coolant
You'll probably end up losing most of the coolant in the engine block. When I did it I drained and flushed the coolant, so I don't know how much it will take for just the water pump. I'd think at least a couple of gallons. You can try pinching the hoses off to keep them from draining more. Good luck, I hope you figure it out!

I would recommend to your viewers that their tool kits include:- 1/4 inch 135 mm long mini socket wrench, european hose clamp pliers, smallest 10mm socket for a 1/4 inch with a 1/4 inch allen key, plus a deep offset10mm ring spanner. It helps get the very difficult bolts off from very hidden positions, oh and a bit a chewing gum to keep the sock on the bolt while you wrestle under the car!
My pully just snapped off my water pump on my cayman s i know its very similar. Any recommendations to avoid any coolant air bubbles on my engine and permanently damaging it?
Off??? Wow! That's extreme. So, the process should be pretty similar, as you said. Put the climate control on the highest heat setting, open the bleeder valve, idle / rev (gently) the car to warm it up. Continue to add coolant as needed. If it starts to get hot, stop, close everything up, and let the car cool completely. Then check the fluid and repeat. It definitely takes some patience, and I recommend to idle it for awhile, go on short drives around the block, a few times. If you've done this a couple of times, and haven't needed to add coolant, you're probably good... I mention it in another video, but a tool like this, can make the process a lot smoother: amzn.to/2xLK75u ...These vacuum systems aren't perfect (you'll still have to check and top off), but they do make for an easier time. Study up on the process, take it slow, and you should be ok. Good luck!
Hi Ben I want to replace the water pump, if I drain the coolant from the drain plug and start to remove the bolts on the water pump will that be OK, what do think ? So that I can save time pulling other hoses and putting back in ?
It will work fine, but it won't get as much of the old coolant out of the front radiators. If you know what the old coolant is and you're adding the same stuff, then I'd say no problem. If the old coolant is some iffy mystery coolant, you might want to reconsider.
ended up removing one big coolant hose to get to the water pump bolts. That drained lot of coolant. I was wondering if metal gasket can seal the water pump to the engine body? did you apply any RTV to it before mounting?
Hello Burner's, I have a boxster from 1997, buy the cooler oil but the new version has a hose and I have no idea where it is connected :( I have looked for all kinds of information in images and videos and only shows the hose attached to the oil cooler but does not show where the other end is reconnected.If anyone knows or has images that can help me I would thank him a million because the same porsche from Panamá does not know and tried to communicate with germany and just shows him a sketch and they also do not understand.thanks for your time.
So I'm not totally sure, but I think that hose feeds down under the car and joins up with the hoses coming from the front radiators. I think that's where I'd start looking.
I just replaced water pump and thermostat low temp on my 2005 boxster and I used prestone long life coolant and used distilled water and just super easy and but after I changed the everything and fill the coolant I have low oil pressure light came on and I was lil disappointed bcz every time I try to keep my well maintained something else happen bcz I like to keep my cars well running and always care for my car but issue was oil pressure switch changed that and it's running well
Any noise from pump or signs of any amount of coolant leak. At 91k miles, would be a good idea to change simply as preventive maintenance. I replaced mine at 102k miles without any symptoms to avoid this happening away from home.
Thx for the video. Mine failed at 58k. Saw coolant under the middle of car. Drove it 3 miles to the dealer and my coolant level light went on just as I pulled in. Lol.
Yep. And faster :P Everyone worries about how difficult mid-engine cars are to work on, but I've found the Boxster is often easier because you can access the front of the engine so easily! Cheers!

***** Yep. Just the metal gasket. That's the way Porsche designed it, and I've been leak free since I replaced it.
