So as I started to read I would pause and lay back and just picture and visualize the scene… Sooooooo much better in my minds eye. Whenever Voldemort cast the first killing curse and Dumbledore simply disapparates and reappears….. I’ll never forget that …….. I paused, I created the scene in my mind …. Went and got a coke and made some popcorn thinking holy shit this about to happen.

Great comment, sound is always completely underappreciated. Someone (the whole team) had to come up with what these spells even sound like, then craft it convincingly, movies would be nothing without sound and yet they are invisible to the average viewer which means they did their job perfectly. Still nice to show some appreciation though.

And the voice over of him slithering into Harry's mind as he's standing over Bellatrix...it's just a perfect mix of sinister and creepy. It really encapsulates the way Riddle moves and operates: in the shadows of the darkness of one's mind, a perversion and twisted rationale of unhinged despair, fear & loathing. It's beautiful.

Voldemort's magic is all about killing. He has designed it with that specific goal in mind. even if he cannot best Dumbledore he directs the... spill over of his magic at harry in an attempt to end his life, even as Dumbledore protects him from it. This fight reminds me an awful lot of the Codex Alera. The idea that no action is undertaken unless it solves at least three problems at once. That is probably a factor of Jim Butcher's Portrayal of the character of Gaius Sextus I enjoy the most. The fact that he sees the battlefield in its entirety and that he never moves unless he is moving all factors to his own benefit.

It's also a great example of how special effects and action set pieces are the cherry on top, not the cake itself. What makes this scene so compelling isn't the cool effects or magic, it's that we all care about the outcome. The story and characters were so strong and came before everything else. We felt dread when Voldermort showed up because we know how powerful and wicked he is. We admired Harry's courage and strength because we know how much he's been through. We feel relief when Dumbledore shows up because we know of his authority and grace.
So many movies and shows miss this: Set pieces can look as spectacular as you want, but if people aren't gripped by the story and characters then it's completely empty.

I would not say wrath. More like resolve. You are applying the wrong quote to this scene. That said I agree with your sentiment. Harris was great at being the quirky kind Dumbledore who felt magical and wise. Gambon was great at being quirky (especially in the third one where he was more relaxed) but as the movies progressed he was fantastic at showing how old he was feeling and how dealing with Voldemort was wearing him out. He also had a more regal figure who could be intimidating when called upon. It is the difference between a peace time and war time Dumbledore. Both were great.

I haven't read the books but I feel I can say you're wrong on that. Riddle was evil at his core and Dumbledore eventually realised that.
He called Voldemort Tom to insult him and to remind Voldemort that he is just a weak and pathetic wizard, desperately grasping for power in any way he can without understanding said power. Dumbledore is far more powerful and wiser than him and Voldemort knows that. Voldemort's arrogance is shown throughout the series and he continuously overlooks simple things out of ignorance that others realise.
      1) He never figured out Harry was a horcrux.
      2) He thought splitting his soul was a good idea and would make him more powerful.
      3) He thought the elder wand would just accept him as its new master due to thinking that wands crave power (which he thought he had the most of).
      4) He failed to understand something as simple as love would save Harry's life. In the 4th book, he mentions how love saved Harry's life but clearly fails to understand how or why or the power of love.
      5) He did not even realise the one of his closest death eaters was a traitor and loved the woman he married well over a decade ago.

It's more of a psychological moment, implying that Voldemort had to hide, lurk and work in the shadows all this time, never achieving his goal. Dumbledore is downplaying him, knowing Tom can't defeat him, he is casting a sense of urgency over Voldemort and adding more weight to his allies and the law representatives. And in the end, Voldemort is forced to leave, not being able to defeat Dumbledore or kill Harry, and before others arrive. At least I like to think that way, it adds more depth.

    CMIIW alright?
3:08: Voldemort started with the Killing Curse A.K.A Avada Kedavra (I thought it was Bluebell charm in the first place, but the redirected lightnings to harry gave it away, and also he's the dark lord too lol)
3:08: Dumbledore instantly reacts with Expelliarmus based on the red colored rays, as well as flipendo on Harry, tossing him aside.
3:34: Voldemort cuts off his spell clash and at the same time casts Fiendfyre perfectly without his wand.
Along 3:48 to 3:53 : Dumbledore controls the raging dark blazes with an adept form of Finite, hence counter-fires Voldemort with it.
3:54 Voldemort slashes his wand, parting the Fiendfyre into two with Partis Temporus.
3:57: Dumbledore keeps up his incapacitating attacks with Aqua Eructo to the fountain waters and entraps Voldemort Inside its sphere form. (I don't think it's Aguamenti because that's a water making spell, and I read another fan comment below saying it's called aqua carcarem, but it's non-canon. Hence, still ambiguous. Other considered spells including, Ebublio, Oppugno, etc.)
4:07 Voldemort muffledly made a slashing version of Everte Statum to Harry, trying to interrupt Dumbledore's control of the water prison. (Stupefy can be the spell too, since Everte Statum should be point-casted)
4:08: Dumbledore reacts with a wandless Flipendo on Harry, knocking him back and disrupts his own focus.
4:12: Voldemort gathers his magic and power as well as releasing it into a dark version of Bombarda.
4:14: Dumbledore has used Protego against Voldemort.
4:17: Voldemort releases a wide area form of Bombarda/Reducto along the ministry. (I know it sounds stupid, but the animation details inside the ministry chambers shown some explosions.)
4:32: Voldemort once again attacks with Oppugno, tossing all the ruins to Dumbledore. (I did think of Wingardium Leviosa too, but it would only levitates the ruins)
4:41: Dumbledore cleans it all with a perfect Finestra shield, converting the glass and debris into dusts.

It's impressive, but it's the comment equivalent of a fanfic. You are referring to charms that do not exist in the book and making up their effects. You've got a lot of imagination but David Yates doesn't care about spells as in the books. To start with, it makes no sense for DD's and Voldemort's wands to connect, don't you realize that? It is a unique phenomenon that only occurs when twin wands meet, such as Harry's and Voldemort's. Also, the Floo network doesn't work like that, it needs the user to say the destination and to use the powder. And spells cannot be blocked by stabs the way Moody does it and Voldemort shouldn't be able to disarm Harry with his wandless hand.
I like how you find meaning in this duel, but let's face it, DY didn't give a shit about actual charms and spells, he just wanted it to look awesome.

I never would've figured out 4:08 that wasn't just him swinging his arms freely because of the water but because of what you described, then Dumbledore pushing back Harry not just because he was too close behind him.

It's worth remember that Dumbledore had the elder wand here, and therefore had a significant advantage. The fact that Voldemort was somewhat matched is actually a testament to his strength.

    • @rga9416
      @rga9416 ปีที่แล้ว +9

Also, remember dumbledore defeated grindelwald, who was a very impressive wizard and also grindelwald possessed the elderwand.
Dumbledore was toying with voldemort at this point, and voldomort realised this, so he decided to possess Harry.
Not saying voldemort isn't powerful because he definitely is 😂
      Dumbledore hits different 😂

Dumbledore wasn't trying to kill him though, that would kinda be useless since he knows there is only one way to kill Voldemort for good. Dumbledore was keeping him in the ministry until the auras arrived so they would have to finally believe that Voldemort had returned. Voldemort lasted as long as he did in this fight because Dumbledore let him last that long.

Huh, I thought it was him trying to break the connection between their wands once he realised brute force wasn't going to win the fight, but now that I think about it he probably figured if he had to miss a spell on Dumbledore to achieve that, might as well aim it at Harry.

I think you failed to mention the fact that Dumbledore had the elder wand in this fight against Voldemort so I'd expect him to beat nearly everyone he faces.
Voldemort still puts up a Good fight against him, if you take away the elder wand, I grantee you the fight would be much much closer, in fact, i'd say Voldemort would win in a long fight.

dunno m8, dumbledore beat grindelwald while the latter had the elder wand and was on par with voldy and dumbledore at the time, so I think the old man would have still won

    • @TheUndyingCrystal

Ragnarok423 Dumbledore was pretty much the most powerful sorcerer who ever lived in this universe.
The books show him easily pushing back Voldemort without even trying, and this is the guy who defeated Grindelwald, who was far more dangerous and successful than Voldemort himself.
The only reason Voldemort even survived this is because he has horcruxes and Dumbledore was trying to protect Harry. If he was mortal and was in a one on one fight, Tom Riddle would be obliterated by the old man.
