Mcgonagall: Punishes students for disobeying reasonable rules designed to enforce school safety. Shows no obvious favoritism towards any student. Dumbledore: I'm going to intentionally hire the world's worst wizard to humiliate him. Hope this doesn't have adverse effects on the student population, lol.
“Hogwarts is threatened, man the boundaries, protect us, do your duty to our school” *i can’t put into the words the goosebumps i get when i hear her say that*
Sorry, but no. I’m NOT ready to grieve the character. Losing Maggie hurts enough. I’m not gonna let Minerva go yet 💔 Not until the very day Rowling herself announces she is gone 🖤
The really give Flitwick his moment to shine here. Not only does he initiate the shield, he's also the one right on the bridge, right at the front to confront trolls and dementors. Small man, giant heart.
I remember reading somewhere that Maggie was battling cancer during production of this movie. If that's true then she's even more of a badass to not let cancer stop her from doing such an epic job!
It's like those moments where, despite how strict the teacher is, when push comes to shove, especially involving her students, she'll do anything necessary to protect them, even allowing them to do things she never allowed them to do before!
I think the cgi was pretty good in most of the harry potter movies... but god that werewolf scenes haunts me to this day with how genuinely terrible the scene was and it still made it to production...
RIP Dame Maggie Smith.🕊️ 1934 - 2024 She was the perfect casting choice for Minerva McGonagall, I can't imagine any other actress. The fact that she was battling breast cancer during THBP and shingles during TDHP2 makes her all the more legendary. 🫡
Absolutely the person you want in charge during a crisis. She was perfect in this role. Frighteningly capable, powerful, brave. There could have been no better Professor McGonagall.
I love the subtle detail at 0:16 showing Slughorn taking a swig of what is assumed to be Felix Felicis. It's a detail that wasn't in the book, but is perfectly on-brand for the character.
You can also see that when Professor Mcgonagol starts saying "Pierotum" at 0:40, Slughorn jolts to a stop and turns around, as if shocked at the fact that she was using _that_ spell.
"Hogwarts is threatened. Man the boundaries, protect us, do your duty to our school!" This scene always brings tears to my eyes. Love McGonagall! And the whole battle scene is very well-crafted.
This was the moment when I realized that Hogwarts is not just a school, a fancy castle. Hogwarts is a stronghold of ancient magic. And even Voldemort should think twice about attacking it.
@@sgtjohnsonit's called a "Three point landing", as it has three points of the body supporting the one doing the landing, being the feet, an outstretched hand, or a Kneecap to serve as support.
It’s a shame this is all we really see from him and McGonagall in the battle, a really short scene to show them outsmarting and taking down a few Death Eaters each would have been great, similar to the scene where we see Arthur and Kingsley fighting.
In a wizards fight he's likely the strongest in the whole school since Dumbledore's gone. Sure he's a little weaker than Snape and McGonagall but he's also a dueling champion. So while his magic maybe slightly, slightly less impressive he'd stand the best chance against Voldemort.
It's more than just that tho, the "luck" effecting him wouldn't have just been to ensure his own survival, we know he genuinely does care about the students, his endeavour would have been to both survive and protect the students and where possible he did.
@@TheDUDERulez1 Almost certain it was Felix, they added even the sounds of him gulping it. He was known to be one of the best potion makers and was hunted by Voldemort's army to make some.
@Shrinivash E18CS052 I think it is..."Seamus got so impatient that he prodded it (the feather) with his wand and set it alight - Harry had to put it out with his hat."
@Shrinivash E18CS052 Yes and as I recall, he apparently had similar incidents of setting himself on fire or blowing himself up in later situations. He knows how to light things on fire and blow them up because he has done so to himself by accident more then once.
"And his name is Volemort!" It just brings the first book and the gathering at Privet Drive when Dumbledore found Minerva spying on Dursleys. It was the first time we have hear Voldemort's name being uttered. And we know how McGonagall didn't feel comfortable using it. And then comes this scene... She knows the enemy, she knows what must be done. She is in full Headmistress mode, a valiant woman who will do what must be done to protect those that are given to her. In many ways, more than Snape or Dumbledore, McGonagall is an epitome of a perfect teacher. I truly wish we had seen Voldemort dueling her, Kingsley and Slughorn.
@@vuanhachoi2409 As much as I love the character of McGonagall: No it's not. Having Slughorn there was at least as important. Troughout book 6 he is portrayed as someone far from a hero and at the end of book 7 he fights the most dangerous dark wizard of all time alongside two people who where always portrayed as brave, powerful and strong.
I KNOW! And the spell of the statues brings me back to the giant magic chess she created to protect the Philosopher's stone! It's basically the same strategy and I loved it.
Molly is part of the Order of the Phoenix, and she's been in a world at war for the past three years. She's an overlooked housewife. She's also a powerful witch who's been working hard to prepare for that moment.
“'And now - Piertotum Locomotor!' cried Professor McGonagall. And all along the corridor the statues and suits of armor jumped down from their plinths, and from the echoing crashes from the floors above and below, Harry knew that their fellows throughout the castle had done the same. 'Hogwarts is threatened!' shouted Professor McGonagall. 'Man the boundaries, protect us, do your duty to our school!' Clattering and yelling, the horde of moving statues stampeded past Harry: some of them smaller, others larger, than life. There were animals too, and the clanking suits of armor brandished swords and spiked balls on chains." (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, pages 602-603).
For a change I think the movies did this scene better. Silent pieces of armour with the amazing music seems better than all the statues shouting and mobbing
It's a shame in the Sorcerer's Stone, we didn't get to hear Dumbledore correct her when she calls Voldemort You-Know-Who. That line in the book and movie was a callback to that moment
“And now - Piertotum Locomotor!” cried Professor McGonagall. And all along the corridor the statues and suits of armor jumped down from their plinths, and from the echoing crashes from the floors above and below, Harry knew that their fellows throughout the castle had done the same. “Hogwarts is threatened!” shouted Professor McGonagall. “Man the boundaries, protect us, do your duty to our school!”
The founders made Hogwarts to be a safe place to learn, without fearing witch hunters. So it makes perfect sense that they had a stone army on standby.
the fact that in the book fitwick was the only one casting the spells to put the shield over Hogwarts is amazing because it shows just how powerful he is because he's half goblin and a dueling champion apparently
Yea. Especiel when you see ONLY the most powerfull, aka the order of Phönix, pulling that spell around the perimeter. Mcgonagle isnt doing it because their more powerfull for that particular spell OR she was worn out. She did face Snape prior to that AND needed her power to cast Pietotum Locomotor, wich considering how large that army is is no small feat.
Really hope they make an animated Harry Potter TV series instead of a live action - recasting new actors would dishonor the original movie cast who've all worked so hard to create memorable experiences for fans.
She was never afraid, just overly cautious. She's resigned herself to dying to protect the school and the kids for as long as she Flitwick Slughorn Weasley and the other adults are able to do, hence she's just thrown all caution out the window. That's why she sent Finnigan to blow things up,lol
A true reference of the three harmonious founders taking their essences in Molly(Godric), Rowena(Flitwick), and even a hybrid with Slughorn(Helga & Salazar) in order to shield Hogwarts
And in thr books professor Sprout is next to McGonagall, and she uses all kinds of plants to blind, deafen and delay the enemy as well if I remember correctly
Is nobody gonna comment on McGonangall's absolute mastery of transfiguration that she brought all the statues in Hogwarts to life in a second with a single spell?!
When the statues fell as the music began, it gave me chills. I want to obliviate myself and watch all the HP series again. HP is the best. You can’t fight me in this statement. Try me. Edit: WHAT THE HECK 2K LIKES THANK YOU SO MUCH THIS IS THE MOST LIKES IVE GOT IN TH-cam! EDIT: OMG 3.5K??!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH AHHHHHHH
Well, I don't blame them. Big part of protecting students is to teach them to defend themselves to their best ability. Given that Snape was in charge, Deatheaters must have interfeared with classes and activities, what teachers will teach and what not. And I think Defence Against Dark Arts was terminated class and all activities related to that subject forbidden. Take the year when Dolores Umbridge was in charge(Order of The Phoenix) as an example.
@@marchlander1 yeah defense against the dark arts was replaced with dark arts according to the books. They taught the students dark magic such as the unforgivable curses. Among other dark spells.
Hogwarts students fought well though, to think that all their Defense of The Dark Arts teachers somehow always ended up missing, losing memories, mental breakdown, crazy, dead, etc. Not to mention the witch Karen (Umbridge), lmao, who basically didn't teach them anything but ministry propaganda and brainwash. Beside, you can't compare Death Eaters with wizard students, even Aurors having hard times facing Death Eaters. The book describe the battle of Hogwarts way more epic. Hogwarts ghosts are so underated. (Edit: Professor McGonnagal is badass, Professor Flitwick too, but this is Voldemort)
When the soldiers appeared and the professors all starting to say the Latin protective spells, it send so much pride and love down my spine I don’t care what anyone says, Harry Potter is the best thing that happened in our childhood and lives in general
“And his name is voldermolt “ something about her finally using his name as to say “We may fear him but we will defend our house til the last man” I loved that part of this scene!!
Her saying his name out loud signifies that she doesn't fear him anymore, she and the others have lived in fear and death for too long it is time to fightback.
@@BELIEVER78989 ehhhhhh🤨🤷🏾♂️ I think the fear was still there it was more defiant than anything!!! Doesn’t mean they weren’t scared jus ready to fight back

That’s literally a fact
I feel like everyone says that lmaooo but still true tho
Mcgonagall: Punishes students for disobeying reasonable rules designed to enforce school safety. Shows no obvious favoritism towards any student.
Dumbledore: I'm going to intentionally hire the world's worst wizard to humiliate him. Hope this doesn't have adverse effects on the student population, lol.

That's because death is afraid to approach our Minerva, our queen..

Small man, giant heart.
it wasn't mentioned in movies but durring his school years he was The master of the duels
He’s even more poweful in the books. He alone casted the enchantments.
He killed a few Death Eaters, one of them being Dolohov, who killed Molly's brothers.
also bro took down DOLOHOV, the guy who defeated moody in the 5th and killed lupin

Dame Maggie Smith is such a badass in all characters she has taken.
She is a real queen and nobody change my mind. This woman is fantastic!
Next, she can easily play the British queen, she would be perfect for that post, too! 😎
I remember reading somewhere that Maggie was battling cancer during production of this movie. If that's true then she's even more of a badass to not let cancer stop her from doing such an epic job!
I love how Nevil was double checking with her like a strict teacher telling you to do something they normally don’t let you do in class
It's like those moments where, despite how strict the teacher is, when push comes to shove, especially involving her students, she'll do anything necessary to protect them, even allowing them to do things she never allowed them to do before!
Agreed. To that point it’s a matter of life and death
@@BigBoss1228
Facts. Sometimes, all bets are off
It basically humanises her. If not shed still be seen as a by the book strixt teacher
In a sense that's exactly what's happening. Which in my own opinion only makes it better.
The CGI in the Harry Potter series was always perfect. Way ahead of it's time!
Of couse always just say it was perfect
Yeah it had a high budget and the producers were sure it would make them triple the money
I think the cgi was pretty good in most of the harry potter movies... but god that werewolf scenes haunts me to this day with how genuinely terrible the scene was and it still made it to production...
Yeah, it helps if a scene is in darkness aswell, as it hides some errors, but I agree that the werewolf scene were flawed.
Obviously. They use magic

She was the perfect casting choice for Minerva McGonagall, I can't imagine any other actress.
Nice observ!
Lies again? Hello GNC
who knows it might have made quite the difference in the battle
You can also see that when Professor Mcgonagol starts saying "Pierotum" at 0:40, Slughorn jolts to a stop and turns around, as if shocked at the fact that she was using _that_ spell.

This was the moment when I realized that Hogwarts is not just a school, a fancy castle. Hogwarts is a stronghold of ancient magic. And even Voldemort should think twice about attacking it.

1:19 is one of my favourite shots in the movie. I love how the framing makes Flitwick look as powerful as he is.
I thought I was the only one it’s so powerful especially with the music so beautiful
One of my favorite professors is him. Physically people may see him as a weak, lovely person. But, this scene proves he's not weak.
It’s a shame this is all we really see from him and McGonagall in the battle, a really short scene to show them outsmarting and taking down a few Death Eaters each would have been great, similar to the scene where we see Arthur and Kingsley fighting.
@@muhammadazkarais2607 He is definitely not weak! He master all spells with magnificence being a great representation of a Ravenclaw 💙
In a wizards fight he's likely the strongest in the whole school since Dumbledore's gone. Sure he's a little weaker than Snape and McGonagall but he's also a dueling champion. So while his magic maybe slightly, slightly less impressive he'd stand the best chance against Voldemort.
I like how you can see Slughorn drinking a bottle of Felix Felecis to ensure his own survival
It's more than just that tho, the "luck" effecting him wouldn't have just been to ensure his own survival, we know he genuinely does care about the students, his endeavour would have been to both survive and protect the students and where possible he did.
Good man

@Shrinivash E18CS052 Yes and as I recall, he apparently had similar incidents of setting himself on fire or blowing himself up in later situations. He knows how to light things on fire and blow them up because he has done so to himself by accident more then once.
Rest in peace, Dame Maggie Smith. Thank you for the wonderful memories of your grace and wit. 🪄🖤✨
Ooooohhh that would have been BADASS!!!
Especially Slughorn, vindicating himself with that fight.
Just her vs Voldermort. I know it should follow the book but Minerva vs Voldermort is more than enough.
@@vuanhachoi2409 As much as I love the character of McGonagall: No it's not. Having Slughorn there was at least as important.
Imagine how the teachers felt seeing their students died in front of them😢, realizing they failed to protecting them😭😭😭
Well, I don't blame them.
Great motivation to then fight and win the battle, I'd think but also heartbreakingly sad.
