From a outside of USA perspective, relocation is the most strange thing in sports (with the absence of relegation). In England a teams can't change neighborhood
Some teams in the USA have a strong relation with their areas too like New York Knicks/Nets, The Bulls, The Lakers, The Celtics (and every Boston team) etc. Those are just basketball teams!

And also Nike is there and Phil knight, so he will make sure that franchise even though that would be terrible news to us Seahawks fans. But it would give the team an identity.
To be really honest I really don’t like Portland and as a Seattle sports fan I don’t like Portland’s pro teams. But in a rivalry however you have to always respect your rival. And I dont like Portland as a sports city and their sports fans but overall at the end of the day I respect Them and I take that city and their fans way more seriously then Jacksonville. And also Portland has a better track record of supporting their team because they’ve supported the Blazers and the Timbers for almost 50 years(especially if you count the NASL era in American soccer) And also if Jaguars did come to Portland build the rivalry with the Seahawks. It would be like the Ducks and huskies rivalry on steroids.

Honestly Jacksonville only doesn't fill the building solely because of their performance. If you look back to right after their 2017 run to the AFC Championship game they were the number one seller of season tickets that off-season. If they would even put themselves in a position to contend for the very last wild card spot the fans would come out in great numbers.
Not to mention the sheer amount of money that Shad has invested in Jax and the Jags in Jax. People need to remember you don't stay rich or get rich by spending money foolishly.
I agree with all the ideas you have, but I think San Antonio will be a better city for an NFL team, since Austin already has the Texas Longhorns which already has a big fan base.
Plus San Antonio is very cheap, and really won't be able to afford a team. I'm from there originally. Hell they don't even want different forms of mass transit. I'm in Pasadena,TX now. They're gonna have to build a new stadium if they went to the Alamodome. ATX on the other hand, is primed and ready for multiple sports franchises to support.

How about Hartford CT for hockey. The whalers jersey is still one of the most popular jerseys based on sales figures in the NHL. They were near sellout crowds before Karrmanosoved them to North Carolina. Bring the NHL back to Hartford.
This is sooo laughable. Karmonos moved the team because the team couldn’t even bring 12,000 fans when he begged them to come while also threatening relocation.
No chance. While I’d love to see it the current arena is substandard and there’s zero appetite to build a new one, either by state government or private enterprise. Plus even at best this market is about the Bruins and Rangers and that’s it.
@@GoalHornGeek Wrong, as someone who was a Whalers fan, Karmorons said he wasn't going to move it. Matter of fact, the fact that he got the team was fishy as another ownership team (mostly Connecticut businesspeople) offered more money, and private funding to build an arena, but the owners (and one was the governor) refused. The Whalers still have a fan club and the state's hockey fan will welcome them back. That said, with Connecticut being mismanaged, I doubt it would happen, because people are moving out. Most of the Lightning fans remembered the Whalers and some of the Lightning fans are former Whalers fans.
Honestly. I don’t think St Louis is a good place to have a professional team. You saw how the NFL Cardinals and the Rams played out, despite SB XXXIV for the latter. My opinion though.
Honestly surprised Wisconsin has not received a NHL team. With the success of the NCAA mens and womens hockey teams in Madison. And there being a minor league team in the Admirals for many years. Would love to see a Wisconsin vs Minn rivalry
I'd love to see that too! But between Chicago and the Twin Cities, I'm not too sure that Wisconsin (Milwaukee most likely) would get a team that easily though. It's a shame because there is real talent and potential to draw for some good games, not to mention an underrated fanbase up here.
NHL and NBA have a unwritten agreement not to step on each other's shoes in mid and small markets. Milwaukee has the Bucks. Denver is the smallest metro with both and it's a lot bigger than Milwaukee plus it has unrivalled regional support from how isolated it is as a major city. You would have strong regional support in the state itself but I suspect it would be to avoid breaking that compact with the NBA more than anything

The Montreal Olympic stadium is not really a good option for an MLB Team or any major sports team. Wouldn't be surprised if the stadium gets scrapped in the near future.
The West Coast teams would probably play an East Coast away game prior to playing in London anyway and its only an extra hour's flying time from New York to London as it is from LA to New York.
Come home that contract doesn't mean anything if they want to relocate look at Seattle the SuperSonics was under contract but that didn't help them keep their team
Florida Panthers ain’t going anywhere now that they’ve won the Stanley Cup. Your take on the Oakland Athletics relocating to Las Vegas however has aged like wine.
No NFL team is ever going over seas. The logistical nightmare that would be along with the amount of bye weeks given to teams going there or them coming to the states would be a pain. Only way it would work is if there happened to be like 5 other teams around London as well but not sure if NFL is THAT big overseas enough to make it profitable or worth it.
Not one team. The only way this happens would be for an entire division to be created in Europe. I could see 4 teams over there within a decade but execution would be critical.
I love the US-Canada dynamic in the Big 4 sports leagues, especially the NHL. That being said, I do prefer that the NFL remain a US-only league. I love how NFL football is exclusively an American tradition that our whole country can share. Other countries are welcome to follow along of course, but keep the teams in the US please.
Football’s almost as big in Canada as it is in the states. It’s been played in Canada just as long as it has been in America, and after hockey it’s by far the second most popular sport here Lots of people make trips down to Buffalo or New England every year to see games. It’s definitely not exclusively American.
@@Dreadlock1227 I didn't say football in general is exclusively American, specifically NFL football is. No team has existed outside the country and I like it that way because we can truly call the league our own which is something I prefer to have in at least one league, the same way you guys have your own leagues to unite around.
But a lot of sports fans in Canada are getting tired of the blatant pro-U.S. double standard. Why should we support the 'growth' of the NHL into ridiculous places like Arizona, where it has done nothing but lose multi-millions, when the NFL refuses to put a team in Toronto that would be obviously be profitable and in a much larger market than Jacksonville? I have no choice but to accuse you of being pro-American and selfish.
@@FischerFan to be fair, most of the NHL’s expansion efforts into non traditional hockey cities in the US have been very successful. Arizona’s just the one bad example but the rest have gone great. And at the end of the day, the NHL’s objective when it comes to expansion is to create new fans who weren’t already watching the NHL, which is something that expanding into Canada won’t really do. If they were to put a new team in Quebec City, or a 2nd Toronto team, that wouldn’t really be bringing any new fans to the league. But Seattle or Vegas? Those are basically untapped markets of hundreds of thousands of potential new hockey fans. I don’t like it either, but at the end of the day the NHL exists to maximize their profits. Expansion is a tool to do that, and expansion into the US is the most optimal way to go about it. And it’s the same with the NFL. As far as utilizing expansion to maximize the leagues profits goes, Toronto just isn’t an optimal market.
@@Dreadlock1227 You are forgetting that the League also had to vacate Atlanta. Florida had been floundering for years. Carolina had a few years when they were playing in front of more empty seats than filled ones as well. Nashville was once at risk of relocation. San Jose and Anaheim are struggling due to their on-ice products. So you can't say that Arizona has been the exception rather than the rule. You make it sound as if the NHL needs to put a team in every American city in order to create new fans for itself. This is blatantly untrue. Playoff games in Arizona have proven that teams like the Red Wings and Black Hawks have had followings long before the NHL put a team in Phoenix. That's like saying that football can't possibly have a following in San Antonio or Austin unless there is a team there, and your claim that Toronto can't be a solid market for the NFL is absurd. The NFL has always enjoyed a strong following across Canada.
Honestly the rays don't have a problem with having a fan base it's just that people don't want to go to St Pete to watch baseball in a crappy stadium. Maybe if they could get a stadium in Tampa or even move them 2 hours down the road to Orlando they would get great attendance numbers and maybe even sell out some games.
If Tampa can support a HOCKEY team, then they definitely support baseball since last time I checked, baseball was more popular is most U.S. cities than hockey. If the Rays move, it's only because of their "Robert Irsay" like owner.
I’m so glad I’m not seeing the Carolina Hurricanes on these lists anymore. This season, across the first 6 home games, the team has averaged 18,170 (97.3% Capacity) fans per game, which is 7th best in the league right now, with the next game sold out as well. Last season, they averaged 17,210 fans which is very good coming right out of Covid (one of the few teams to grow). I’d also say Raleigh is ready for another pro team. The overall Raleigh-Durham market has 2.2M people in it, not including the 500k in Fayetteville or the 1.6M in Greensboro which are only an hour away each. In terms of sports, there’s only the college teams, and 1 major league team. The Canes. For comparison, Nashville has 1.9M people in it and has the Predators, Nashville SC, Titans, and NASCAR. Meanwhile, NC State and UNC football programs have 50,000 people at each game and the Duke and UNC basketball games are always sold out (note UNC has 22,000 seats). On top of that, NC State’s baseball program has also been selling out for years and the Durham bulls have been near the top of the MiLB in terms of value, following, and attendance. There’s also to consider the corporate growth, population growth and transportation growth. I mean, since Covid, Apple, Clorox, VinFast, Google, Meta have all established some hub or headquarters in the area. And now, Avelo airlines plans to base at least 7 aircraft at the airport by 2024 and the airport maintaining 3 successful flights to Europe without many connecting passengers. And for what it’s worth, the canes invented shared box suites and have sold out all suites and box suites since moving to Raleigh. This is exactly what the major league organizations are looking for, yet keep passing up Raleigh because of other nearby cities that are just a bigger name grab.
San Diego deserves an NFL and NBA team. It's ridiculous all their teams keep getting taken away! I know the Padres will never leave. The fans are Die Hard for the Padres!
Jax moving to London would probably cause so many problems, finances for travel, Not sure a team of Americans would really be able to truly adjust to British Laws and people.
It would but here in Europe we've had teams play in some of our leagues from different continents. We've had teams from South Africa and Canada compete in Rugby. Likewise in Football players will play International matches in the middle of the week and fly back to play for their clubs at the weekend
For the Kings, the support is still there, the numbers don’t tell the whole story. Once they show even a small sign of getting any stuff together, they’ll start selling out. Heck, the mayor of Sacramento even rallied to keep the team there. Seattle is better off getting an NBA expansion team. Las Vegas could definitely use an expansion team there also for the NBA. Houston would be a great market for a relocated NHL team, the MLB could use Nashville and Charlotte as expansion teams. For the NFL, the Jaguars could move to Austin, that would be a perfect fit for them, much more than London.
Tbh Tampa Bay just needs a new baseball arena. They’re pretty good, but the reason fans aren’t there is because of where Tropicana is located and how frustrating the traffic is and whatnot. If they got a new arena, I’m sure plenty of fans would go. The Bucs and Lightning always have good attendance, so the Rays should get a new arena somewhere in Tampa and not St. Petersburg.
I think the Coyotes would be better off moving to Milwaukee. Wisconsin is a huge hockey state. Milwaukee has a recently built arena in FiServ Forum which has hosted an NHL exhibition game. And there wouldn't have to be any divisional realignment.
There was also a talk back in 2007 or 2008 of the Bills moving to Toronto, but fear of the CFL's potential collapse prevented that from happening. If there's one area in North America where the NFL should definitely expand, it's to Canada. You'd probably have two or even three potential teams that could play in there (Toronto, Vancouver, or Montreal, plus either Edmonton or Calgary).
Problem: 1) Roger's Center seated only 55,000 for football. 2) The Blue Jays (who own the stadium) have fixed it so that it is no longer convertible for football. 3) The owners are considering building a new stadium.
@@owenpowell3291 Which is fine with me! It would mean having to listen no more to the arrogance from annoying Rider fans! The NFL should pay the CFL to disband and then put teams exclusively in NHL cities in Canada, provided they have adequate ownership and NFL-caliber facilities.

If the jags remain a crappy team after moving to London it won’t take long for them to get bored and stop showing up. It’s a novelty right now and that’s why they are showing up. Give them a team that loses 12-14 games a year will absolutely kill that market
I'm a big hockey fan living in Houston, I'd love to have a team here. I think the city would def get behind an NHL team given how many transplants from Canada and around the US are here.
The Jags can't move to London because there is no place for them to play. The pitch at Wembley and Twickenham can't handle a full NFL season so the only option is Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (who got a retractable 2nd pitch). There is no way Tottenhams owner will let a NFL franchise owned by Tony Khan (owner of their competitor Fulham) use it as a home.

I believe the reason why Bettman kept supporting the Coyotes for so long is that he was the one who spearheaded the implantation of hockey team in the desert markets, thinking it would work. Seattle and Las Vegas will get NBA expansion teams. Far more $ with expansion feed there than having an existing team move. Otherwise, someone - Minnesota, NOLA, someone - would have moved by now.
They did once, but that is only because The Charlotte Collosseum had to come down. And freaking New Orleans had to keep Hornets name for years before they decided to change their name to the Pelicans. And we finally got the Hornets name back shortly afterward, but I'll still never forgive New Orleans for that.
The city of Jacksonville, FL, and the Jaguars agreed to a new 30-year lease and stadium renovation deal in June 2024. They are not moving to London or anywhere else for that matter.
Here's how I think a London team could work logistically: The London franchise would have an east coast city like Hartford or Bangor as a home base. The players and coaches live there and that's where their practice facility is. Every Saturday night during the season they get on an airplane and return immediately after the game. In exchange for the travel hassle, players on the London team would get an automatic 3-5% bonus that doesn't count against the salary cap.
OK... but why should the players be paid more?! Makes no sense. Everything is organized for them! What's it their matter flying 4 hours or 6 hours?!?? Would also go against fairness on NFL PA! Players would be all eager joining a team where you earn automatically 5% more! The addtl money makes sense in administration costs for a real bigger effort! But doing this just for London is bogus anyway. NFL needs a real entire European Division and there is no real hassle why the headquarter/training facility/own stadium shouldn't be in Frankfurt, Vienna, Paris, London!

I can't imagine my Jags moving. I know we're not that successful but it's all we got in JAX

Well if they do I will stop being a Jaguars fan and become a buccaneers or Dolphins fan to protest.
Yes I would be heartbroken if they left jax because it is all we have
You think that means anything to these billionaires.
Ok but Austin doesn’t have a team in the major 4 while SAT does
Plus San Antonio is very cheap, and really won't be able to afford a team.

NFL is pretty popular in Frankfurt and the area surrounding it but there isn't a big enough stadium in that region of Germany
It doesn’t make sense to move any teams outside of the states because football is mainly a United States sport why move a team to London
@@youtubeuser9090 I agree it wouldn’t make sense anyway on top of the logistical nightmare it would be
@@duckattak I agree it’s complete different from having nhl teams in Canada
Across 21 games, they have averaged 18,456 fans per game, or 98.8%

Petersburg.
Yeah no tampa team is going nowhere
I think the Coyotes would be better off moving to Milwaukee. Wisconsin is a huge hockey state. Milwaukee has a recently built arena in FiServ Forum which has hosted an NHL exhibition game. And there wouldn't have to be any divisional realignment.
Milwaukee is a small market that already has a NBA Franchise plus the Blackhawks would block it
There was also a talk back in 2007 or 2008 of the Bills moving to Toronto, but fear of the CFL's potential collapse prevented that from happening. If there's one area in North America where the NFL should definitely expand, it's to Canada. You'd probably have two or even three potential teams that could play in there (Toronto, Vancouver, or Montreal, plus either Edmonton or Calgary).
Problem:
1) Roger's Center seated only 55,000 for football.

I grew up west of Seattle. Even though I've lived in Oregon for 22 years, all my sports loyalties are in Seattle! At least once a week, I do a google search for NBA expansion. Seattle and Vegas are top 2 rumored choices! NBA commissioner Silver says they'll look at expansion after they get the media rights deal done.
Good to see a TPS video about more than just the NFL.
Yeah me to
I agree.
Bring a championship calibre baseball team to the South Bronx. Its been decades...
I believe the reason why Bettman kept supporting the Coyotes for so long is that he was the one who spearheaded the implantation of hockey team in the desert markets, thinking it would work.
Relocating them would therefore prove that he was wrong, which he doesn't want to admit, therefore he treats them as the God Emperor of the league.
Houston doesn't have a NHL team because of the Rockets ownership. NBA and NHL schedules overlap and the Rockets don't want to share.
A new montreal team would have to be NL have the marlins move to montreal and the rays to nashville
It would be through expansion.
The marlins probably won't relocate... fingers crossed
@@anthony_rivera4735 The MLB won't relocate both the Ray's and Marlins and the Marlins have a pretty young ball park and the Miami TV Market is bigger then Tampa
no thanks keep that crap out of Canada you guys can have the Blue Jays
I live in Florida and I personally would not be happy with having no mlb teams in Florida
I can't see both the Ray's and Marlins moving I think out of the 2 it will be the Ray's due to the Marlins having the newer Ballpark and the larger TV market
But neither the Rays or Marlins have drawn a lot of fans, despite the Rays being good for a lot of years.
We may finally get back the Montreal Expos and the Seattle SuperSonics! And I’ve been waiting for the Athletics to get out of that awful Oakland coliseum for so long. Vegas is a nice relocation!
Relocation is one thing but expansion would be bad.
Ever since the rebrand from Hornets to Pelicans i noticed how the care and love the people here in New Orleans had just vanished. Nobody wanted the rebrand.
Pittsburgh needs a basketball team a what team would you think could relocate to Pennsylvania
New Orleans Pelicans
Nobody going to england. Every team that goes to play there always has a bye week after. The flight length and layover stuff isn’t gonna work and it’s going to be way worse with a team that has London as its home. Even talking about it is idiocy. Only thing that can happen is a euro league.
i say chargers to stl
Seattle and Las Vegas will get NBA expansion teams. Far more $ with expansion feed there than having an existing team move. Otherwise, someone - Minnesota, NOLA, someone - would have moved by now.
Noooooooooo my hornets would never leave Charlotte
They did once, but that is only because The Charlotte Collosseum had to come down.
And freaking New Orleans had to keep Hornets name for years before they decided to change their name to the Pelicans. And we finally got the Hornets name back shortly afterward, but I'll still never forgive New Orleans for that.
The Las Angeles Clippers should move to St. Louis
or Kansas City
not happening, they are currently building a new arena in LA
@@adrienchl4265 O.K.
They should go back to Buffalo
@@BEEyonced Without some kind of bonus, the London team would be at a competitive disadvantage. No quality veteran free agent would ever want to play for that team.
@@indianapatsfan There will never ever be just 1 European Team to the US League. They are progressing to a European Division. The 17th Game is all set for it with ultimately having 16 International Games over the next years expansion! Then the Re-Location from Khan with the Jaguars to his hometown is a high possibility! But there will be 3(/4) new teams needed anyway. And I guess a lot of players are eager to play for these 4 new teams instead being stuck at Practice Squad or a job outside NFL! I watched NFL yrs before Panthers/Jaguars/Texans! It's just a snap.
It's totally impractical. If the NFL never considered Honolulu, they'll definitely ignore London.
@@davidlafleche1142 London is probably 30 to 40 times bigger than Honolulu.
I don’t think the panthers are going anywhere. Just as you say that a year ago, they made the NHL finals. Otherwise, good vid.
Disgusting that the Kings were on here
Who’s here after the Arizona Coyotes relocated to Utah?
