    I could tell that Kevin needed to be fired. Not leadership material. You need to care for your team so they care for the company. Kevin seems like he's got a stick shoved way up there.

      I work for a pretty big corporation, around 30k people, and I've met every manager up to the ceo.
      If you want people to be passionate about their work and help the business succeed the first thing you have to do is connect with them as a person and help them succeed.

      I think it's fucked up but depending on the employee and the state and other factors, it can be done legally. But if you think an employer is acting improperly, pursue it with the labor board or an employment lawyer. We need to stop letting companies get away with skirting the law v

      @@batkat0 exactly since he said that taking 2 minutes off for every minute they’re late isn’t their policy if I’m right you could sue him for doing so unless you’re really late every shift or something because I’m sure if you did sue and win you’d probably only get enough money from it to pay for your legal fees and the money back for the time you had docked but I’m no lawyer so idk and like you said they can pay you less per hour in some cases as a penalty but I’m pretty sure that’s not what he was doing he was probably just writing down how many minutes they were late and taking it off their time cards before it goes to their payroll department which technically like you said means they weren’t paid for all the time they worked and i could definitely see someone winning in court especially if you took videos or something if you clocking in everyday since those time card machines show that the same for when you clock out so they could add up all your time and see you didn’t get paid for ____ minutes or total hours you worked but like I’m said I’m not a lawyer maybe you could win a ton of money for emotional damage or something saying you need every penny for every hour you work to scrape by and it’s affected your mental health and wellbeing when you shouldn’t of been having to worry as much or at all if you worked docked all these hours over time if your late 10 minutes everyday that’s almost an hour every week say you make $10 an hour over 52 weeks that adds up to a few hundred and if this has been happening and you’ve worked their for 20 years that’s thousands of dollars

      I’ve had at least 3 different verbally abusive managers in my life. But the worst trauma I got was when I became (like an idiot) a calling sales person for a company my dad worked for. After I quit I had trauma about calling people on my phone.
      A few years later I took a job at a portrait place thinking I could rise in the ranks and become one of their photographers! .. They put me in costumer service. And this place basically scammed their costumers at all times. I now have full PTSD about talking on the phone. Only the absolute need to use it or a loved one calling will get me to talk on the phone. *shiver*

    I was terminated from a company after helping earn them 3 insurance awards for safety and got their workers compensation down almost 500k in 4 years. They let me and my assistant go to do better for the safety of the employees. Within 6 months of us being booted they had two fatalities and two major amputations and made front page news. At least this guy is making positive changes for the employees.

      Something very similar happened to me. My company was good to me so I was good to them. I moved up through the company and caught the attention of our contractors. They offered me a spot that was a huge promotion. When I took it, the company gave my work truck to my replacement. Not even 26 months later, that truck got a flat tire.
      Craziest shit ever.

      It's not illegal to do something like docking pay 1:1 for time missed working, or even rounding up 8 minutes of tardiness to 15 minutes (close to 1:2 pay dock ratio).
      _Probably_ even legal to just have an outright 1:2 rule (if that is the rule; we don't know that, she just said it), since for small amounts of time under 15 minutes it's still what's considered "reasonable", and usually "reasonable discretion" is what the employment laws include.
      Where are you specifically getting the claim that it's illegal from? maybe in your specific state or country perhaps?

      I actually appreciate that the president gave him a second chance to fix things. But I also do think that some discipline is in order. Kevin probably feels relieved that he didn't lose his job, so someone needs to keep an eye on him at least.

    Uh you can see by the look on his face that he didn't like it. Teasing and bullying employees is his bread and butter that keeps him alive. That's the kind of employees no boss wants to have in his business, he's destroying the business.

      Well, you're not all wrong but you do have to remember there's a nuance to discipline. The COO decided to respond and not react. That's quality leadership right there. Take notice of his body language towards Kevin. Take note of the words he chose to use with Kevin. He's warning Kevin without actually coming right out and saying "Listen dickhead, I saw some shit I didn't like and that's all gonna change chop chop, you feel me?"
      Now that he has sent that message, it's pretty much a guarantee that he WILL be following up on Kevin and his behaviors after this to check up on him and if he gets out of line again despite being "warned", then there will be more formal consequences.
      That COO handled the situation remarkably well.

      @@BigDaddyJinx I agree with you to a certain point, but that COO went to the p*ssy school of management which is good for use in office environments, not blue collar industrial labor. I've worked those jobs, and the managers there are hired because they ARE a**holes so they can rule the floor and be hated jerks. You cannot change blue collar managers, they will always revert back to their default setting. Also, the fact that he's constantly watching the cameras instead of doing more productive work himself and walking the floor occasionally would be enough for me to realize that he has no interest in his caring for his own people and operation.

      Possibly. Realize in reality TV they can make the story be anything they want it to be. One thing is for sure, the CEO type will always come out looking good. Company will not allow the filming without that. Kevin could be a total POS, who knows but that industry (reality TV) can literally make Mother Theresa look like satan incarnate.

    Kevin needed specific instructions from the owner.
    There's no guarantee that he "can be counted on to get that done" in a reasonable manner.
    He gives the impression in this short clip that he may be covertly vindictive toward employees after this reprimand.
    The owner needs to continue to monitor the treatment of employees at that site as long as Kevin is in a position of authority.

    He didn’t get fired? Or demoted? That’s messed up! I run a small business, and we do lots of manual labor. I’ve always believed that no one should be given a management position without having worked the positions they are managing, and having done every single task that they’ll be putting on their team. You can sufficiently lead a team to do something you don’t understand the ins & outs of, yourself. I also never understood the system we use for promotions, either. We take the best workers away from what they’re great at, make them do something else, and pay them more. Why not pay them more for doing what they’re great at and hire someone else who’s good at the other stuff you were “promoting” them to. It makes no sense to take your best, say, installer away from installing and put them in an office. Just pay them more to do what they’re doing. ?? Then you don’t have a bunch of new people coming in and out that you’re having to train, nor do you have your best worker in a different job. Idk… that’s just me.

      I share your opinion to 100%. I myself did work myself up from production to maintenance, spare parts and I ended up managing the maintenance department and the training department as a result. Knowing what the people actually have to do in their daily jobs makes you more considerate in your decision making, helps you understand the team you work with and in the long run it’s a win. People will most likely not leave and you have a strong team to count on and this is what makes a business long lasting.

      This happens at my work I run my branch pretty successfully everyone is happy but I get alot of the new starts to train so the moment there training is done and if there any good immediately they are sent to other branch and I get sent back the boys that don't want to work or care about targets what annoys me the most is I show them how to do the jobs and the money that we can all make in doing great work but nope not interested so they walk away with barely minimum wage when they could be making upwards of 2.5k a month am lost on why they don't want that money then they complain because am paid over the 2.5k and its not even hard for them to earn the higher wage they just want to come in do the littlest work they can do and go home

    He didn't even bother to introduce himself to his newest employee. He is the plant manager.... they say "people don't leave bad jobs, they leave bad bosses" and this guy isn't going to keep people. I'm pretty sure that would be illegal to dock pay like this.

    Sometimes labor laws do get enforced. On my last job, management was extremely strict about attendance and punctuality. If you clocked in late, you got written up. Three write ups, fired. Suddenly things changed. We had a company meeting where changes were announced. 7 minutes grace period for every time punch. Employees were forbidden to clock in from lunch with less than 30 minutes meal period. You didn't get paid for the time you were late but you wouldn't get punished either.

      I mean a bit of leeway is fine, but I'd say after the 2nd time of someone being late then something needs done...having people late all the time becomes a bad habit and needs to be corrected, but the occasional being late a couple times a year is fine....I worked at my previous place of employment for 7 years, and was never late, was also never off on time either but it all added up to additional hours and overtime quite frequently though LOL....I only called in one day and that was the night my mom passed away. Every shift I was given I worked, occasionally I'd cover other shifts if I didn't have anything else going on, but I was taught that if you aren't at least 5-10 minutes early to your job you are already late...people today are way too lazy and relaxed, and it needs fixed. Like I said the occasional being late might be ok, but several times a week/month is totally unacceptable.

    The kind of boss you hate to work for, who watches everything your doing and can't wait to penalize you every chance he gets, making your life miserable on every level, and no way you can count on him to get anything done that he doesn't want to change!
    Watching how these poor workers have to separate the plastics and cardboard like piecework should be a lesson for all ppl to be conscious of what they're throwing away in the trash bins. I have a lot of respect for these workers.

I know the office idiots at my previous place of employment couldn't, yet they were the ones making up rules LOL. I flat out told them, until they can put themselves in a store, and do our jobs, they aren't to be making any rules or any standards.

I work as a manager for my cities Parking division and the cameras we have are really only ever used to give police evidential footage, or to clear an employees name of a bogus complaint from a customer or a higher up. I can't imagine sifting through hours of footage just to catch someone making a mistake. What a waste of time.

      My previous employer had $30K+ tied up in cameras/recording system, yet couldn't pay their employees worth a damn...and that's $30k in 28 stores total. yet treat their employees like crap, don't pay worth a damn, and had piss poor management, supervisors, and office personnel who couldn't do their own jobs let alone the jobs of the people they were supposed to be overseeing.

    😂I worked for a company as a temp once and the mgr went on a weeks vacation leaving a guy under him in charge. He set a few new rules for the employees. I was to cold call all the new applicants and asked if they would go over their policy and see if they agreed with their answers They gave earlier on their first meeting about the policy and ask questions. He asked questions that would trip them up to catch someone who may have not told the truth to get the policy. Also, I realized that every time t walked down the hall to use the restroom , one of his assistants would follow me. She would just stand there and take notes about my activities. (I brushed my hair, washed my hands,) etc I finally asked her if she was following me on purpose. She said he required her to follow everyone to make sure they were doing bathroom things and not playing around.
    Also, he followed me into the supply room every time I went in there for a pen or pencil. He said i
    had to “check out every pen, pencil, box of paper clips etc. no one could take two of the items, just one. Another thing , If she noticed I was talking, she would come stand and listen to the conversations to make sure it was business related.
    When the mgr came back from his time off , he called me in to his office to see if I enjoyed working there. I was dumbfounded until I realized he had no idea his assistant did the things he did. He asked me how things went and I asked “do you really want to know”? He had no idea what the guy did. He said yes so I told him how the guy treated me .He asked if he still had his notes and I said yes. After I let him know everything, he called him into the office and we all heard yelling and he came out red faced, went to his office, packed his briefcase and left the building. He was fired. He had something wrong with him.

    Kevin is a type of manager I’ve had the misfortune of working with in the past. To compensate for having zero leadership abilities he’ll constantly micromanage his staff. And a lack of leadership skills always equals lack of control so he uses discipline as a method of control. These type of managers never get better and as soon as their short comings are addressed they’ll escalate their methods. He’s bad news and needs to go.

      sometimes these people dont want to micromanage, but also can be the case that he came in to clean up p[ast employees being rampantly late and or abusing leniency, and just took it a bit too far to maintain order. There are cases people in this role aren't just laying down the law just to be tyrants, often there is cause to the way they are in that role so they make the higher ups happy with his numbers. This is why he prolly wasnt fired because his people are ready to work at the start of shifts. You never know, it may be a relief to him to not be so micro-manager about stuff after this

It means he doesn’t know how to inspire them to do their best or is able to institute other methods of behavioural correction. Wage theft is never an acceptable way to remedy bad habits and it’s illegal.

    Regardless of the fact i think its VERY scary how presidents and ceos don’t know stuff like this is going on in their own company, horrible part on the companies part. Yeah he can give them 30k and a brand new car but things wont change for other people, just the people they pick to be on the show.

      A part of being a boss is delegating responsabilities.
      Unfortunately CEO's are still human so they think the people they trust are actually gonna do a good job.
      a lot of the time it doesn't happen, and since the company keeps running and complains never reach their ears they think everything is fine and there's nothing to worry about.

Do you really think the CEO can be the lawyer, the accountant, Purchasing, HR, Marketing, etc for the company? A smart CEO hires people smarter than themselves that are experienced in the field that they are hired to do. Depending on the size and type of company, the CEO hires people to lead each department and from there they hire what they need to run the business. The CEO will only generally interact with his staff which generally are the heads of each department (HR, Marketing, Legal, Purchasing, Customer Service, etc). It is their responsibility to execute and implement what comes down from the CEO who is beholden to the stockholders. It is also their responsibility to report to the COO any issues that need to be addressed from day to day operations. There is a hierarchy. Most of the problems with many companies end up in middle management where they don't do their jobs most of the time, are on a power trip and fail to report issues to leadership because they don't want to look bad. If they report issues, it reflects poorly on them because it will appear as if they can't handle their job or responsibilities. Then when a CEO or COO goes on a show like Undercover Boss to see what is really going on, they are shocked that either policies they have in place are not being followed or people they have in management roles suck and are the reason for high turnover or declining business. It is not really a surprise that a CEO doesn't know every gritty detail that goes on a day to day basis, especially if the company is a big company, with thousands of employees, across multiple states and/or countries. Unfortunately, they have to rely on every single person to do their job and hope they don't have slackers as managers or workers.

    Way back in another century, I worked with a bloke who was a cabinet-maker by trade. He told me about how he had once worked in a furniture and above where they clocked on and off was a sign that read, "Any employee who is 2 or more minutes late will be docked 15 minutes pay." He didn't take much notice of it until the day when he was about 2 minutes late.
    When he got his pay the next week, he saw he had been docked 15 minutes and, quite naturally, he queried this and was quickly told of the ( very illegal ) company policy. The next day he was deliberately 2 minutes late again when he clocked on, then he sauntered to his workbench and very casually perched on it, watching the clock on the wall. The foreman saw him and came over to find out what was going on. My mate pointed towards the clock and said, "I'm waiting 'till quarter past seven." The very puzzled foreman asked why and got the reply of, "Because I was 2 minutes late clocking on and I'm not working the next 13 minutes for nothing!"

    He didn't even say yes or yes sir should have said yes sir He just looked at him and shook his head What a crappy company to work for I've even talked to the drivers before picking up the big dumpsters or the you know the cans in front of people's houses If they go off route go to the bathroom they get rode up and get in trouble Even if they have to like an emergency have to go to the bathroom That one girl had a pickup she had to pee in the cup She was not allowed to go off her route to go to the bathroom except when she was out of there her route area like passing the store to go to bathroom She couldn't like leave to go to the bathroom was an emergency nope they get wrote up so she had a cup that she peed in Hell embarrassing What a crappy company to work for

I mean basic things not "trying to find all digits for pi" which is supposedly up to nearly 63 TRILLION at this point. Employees needing bathrooms breaks, lunch/snack breaks etc., are basic and even though human safety is a major consideration, it's unfortunate that many companies have decided that automation is better/cheaper than dealing with "basic human needs" therefore people are replaced more and more with automated processes.

    There had been times where I had to all of the sudden need to go to the bathroom or stuck in it for you know what reason at the end of my breaks or lunch break. And thank goodness I wasn't penalized during those times for being 5 min late in most places I've worked.
    But I can also see how one missing person can cause problems for others with sorting the trash part of the job too.
