I'll definitely try it. I played through the complete series since the first TOCA in 1997. I still have it on my old Pentium. Someone mentioned a review for the old TOCA series, it would be really awesome to see. Excellent review though.
There something I don't get with racing games today, why is there ONLY 16 ai/player cars max on the starting grid in this game ? When will dev understand that we want a lot of cars on the grid, give us the choice, 2 to +40 cars for the perf or even more 50, if you're computer can't handle it decrease the amount that's all. They have the money and the experience but it's like they don't care at all about this.
In this kind of racing games you almost always start in last position or in the back-middle. Would you like having to pass 20+ cars in at least 4 or 5 laps or the infinite complains of people about the game not being fluid?
@@sampletext24 I would like to pass +20 cars in 4 laps yeah, or I increase the amount of laps. And about perf it's the player who have to set the right amount he wants to have or to have good perf. In project car 1 you can have 56 cars max but every campaign races have 30 cars on the grid. But when i'm in custom solo, i'm always racing against the max amount of car because my computer can handle it. Give us the choice.
Great review viperconcept. Quick question, I played around with the settings and AI difficulty and have it on 'hard' for now. What are your settings/views regarding the ABS, Traction Control and Stability Control? In the beginning, I turned them all off but at every turn, I would just spin out. I have them now all set to 4. But I want it to be a bit more challenging.
I think most of racing games are losing their purpose in single player. Remember Gran Turismo 2? Where you had to start with 10k credits and need to buy an economic used car to race at first? And then, with licenses and earned victories, the game pays your efforts with progress? It's not like "these are X challenges and you have to win them". They now focus most on online gameplay and yes, making a team with friends is fun and gets you into an amazing experience, but its more like a "meta" thing that the game itself doesn't offer. These games nowadays lack of "progression" which invests the player in the game, like the entirety of other game genres (because without progression other game genres won't make any sense).
most people play stuffs on multiplayer nowdays, it isnt only on Racing Games genere, its everywere Ubisoft told that the era of singleplayer games are getting onto the end
I kinda like the basic career mode though. Will it get boring due to lack of stuff to do? Well yes but after all it just feels simple and not over crowed with too many missions.
forza kind of killed the "here's a big bunch of race series using car A and track B" career model mode popular in gran turismo. they keep adding more and more generic series that it feels like a chore to grind them out. GT sport was wise to get rid of it. then for some reason everyone complained about it and they put it back on. the big screen full of generic events in this game looks just like what you'd find in any forza game. at least in older forza games you didn't really have to do all that many of the events to get enough money to fund your online racing activities. hopefully it's the same here.
It's like the camera is fixed with the front of the car, just an optic illusion, maybe to calculate how much the rear will go out while steering and avoid crashing in the wall with it
Wish all the games journalists one day will review a game like you do. Not only a motorsport one. Love the way you dig deep into games. Quite off topic question : if I must choose only one ps4 steering wheel for both F1 kind of game and grid or project cars kind of games, is it better to buy a f1 steering wheel or a generic one? Any tips? Great review mate!
Just realized it's 60 usd, for it's lack of content, you might wanna think about it. Not me though, one of the perks living in backwards country, the ultimate edition cost is only 24 usd, which is also weird as I never seen such drop
as someone who plays majorly on keyboard, it was way more strange than the controller, but it has some oddities on the behavior of V8s for sure. well, i keep my rewinds at hand when it happens, but i didn't have too much difficulties on getting used to the controller. in fact, it's the first game i dont suffer from the car going straight when turning, because it somehow recognizes when you're moving the stick diagonally than horizontally
I agree with career mode. It feels very empty. In previous grid games you started low and went all the way up, and here you can almost start any where you want...
Man imagine this with past features of toca/grid like pit stop, removed tracks like yas marina and nurburgring, and the ability to participate in the 24 hours of le mans.

As much as I remember Grid Autosport it was more of an arcade sim. Nice to see that AI are actually smart now and these team mate and rival features are awesome 👏 almost makes Assetto Corsa boring
I'm just a casual gamer, mistly into racing, but somehow playing with keyboard is also not a bad option in this game. Yes, wheel and controller is obviously the better one, but keyboard is pretty good
Thank you for the review!! This was all the info I needed to make a decision about this title! It really is just a polished Grid Auto Sport, isn't it? But I really liked that title, so I'm looking forward to it now.
grid autosport was the main reason for me to buy a steering wheel because it was impossible to control the RWD cars with keyboard or controller :D however, after i bought my wheel i stopped playing the game because it was not realistic enough to play with a wheel :D
about the controller .. a youtuber called alex gillon found out that the stock setup is bad and it need to be changed to 100% sensitivity and 0 linearity .. may be u can try .. i cannot my self .. i dont have the game yet ^^ about the game .. i dont mind its arcade but i wish it was a bit more sim-like .. closer to the f1 games physic .. i really want to see how this physic would be on the varity of cars of grid ..
Make 0 linearity with 20% ist so wrong . I understand it feel better than stock settings. But i play 5-10% dead zone and 2 linearity .So i can steer smoother in the middle . Give me 10 minutes i'll make the video 4 u
i mean realy theres almoust no difference between 0 lineariti and 20 deadzone. /and 2lenearity and 10 deadzone. just some very little countersteer wnen u need it
It looks a solid arcade racing game 🤘 If you really like racing game then all you need is a car and a track.. i dont understand what more motivations do players need? DriveClub is the same "empty" of any motivation even after so many dlc's and nevertheless it has so huge love among players. IMO modern NFS games trashed conception of racing game with all its campaign and story modes. my first racing games did't have anithing like this and i really liked them. Sadly that you as many other reviewers say nothing about FFB level for the wheels - for me it is the first important to play a game or not.
Codemasters don't do that. GRID has been lacking in content since it started the few reasons it didn't fail was because it's fun. They've never done season pass as far as I know
IZQimchi They have already announced three seasons as well as updates and I think they’re taking the GT sport route of releasing the base game and then updating it in the future however I don’t think there’s going to be as many free updates as gtsport has
Just got this game lastnight was reconsidering f1.2019 too but I cant believe this game was nominated for racing game of the year wth. It is like a bit bland whatever it would be nice if it was more depth but I'll go with pC1+2 GTsport and Dirt games. I'll play this when I want an easy race to play.
It definitely needs fleshing out. Racing around is fine but you need long term goals to keep you playing a game for long periods and get good value out of your £60 spend. Codemasters need to include good career modes. Just letting you pick any race is pretty lazy and the menus are visually uninspiring.
It's worse. They took out the best tracks from that game, and the online playlists and racenet challenges. And it doesn't look that much better either. If you played that game, you cannot be not dissapointed.
I wish Viper would add thoughts on wheel settings and FFB. Oh well, I preorded the standard version after revisiting GRID Autosport and really enjoying it as a back compatible title on xbox. To be honest, I'm a bit worried about the lack of content and features.
I have the same toughts on the game! I'm playing on PC with a X-Box One Controller and it's quite tricky. In that regard i think the cars should have more grip under acceleration. Especialy the RWD high power ones. And some of them don't like to turn at all and people already developed a handbrake turn meta to top score the leaderboard.
I bought it on Steam, it was on sale with discount (a lot of discount), I returned it after a few days. Graphically excellent, and that would be all it has.
I added it to my wish-list, gotta buy as soon as possible, anyway, I wish they add more real life tracks and pit-stop (I remember me as a kid playing the J&L version of TOCA 2 and one of the cooles features was the pit-stop system it had)
GT Sport in SIM-ARCADE genre? Is it not FULL-SIM? The GT Sport is also follow nearly the phisic in the realism race (if you set all the driving assist types as off). Don't you think?
Thx for the review I am thinking the same about this game. I was a bit hyped when the first news came out and the devs sayd they want to go back to the older Grid days so I was hoping for real team building like in the first Grid after TOCA/DTM Race Driver which was from 2008 I guess. But nope. No real Team, no Sponsors, the Co Driver feature is far to basic, why didnt they take the Mechanics Feature from the Dirt Games to have some deepnes in there?, no 24h Race at the end of the season, already 4 Seasons of DLC content announced, a very boring carrer mode (and we know Codemasters can do it better, they did in the past and even in the F1 Games) Im a bit dissapointed but maybe its my fault that I was a bit hyped. But Im glad that I waited for the first Lets Plays and Reviews. So maybe I will buy it in a Sale one day
the game follows more Grid 2/Autosport types of tracks, without pitlanes and stuffs like that about the DLCs, they confirmed that will be Free Tracks and DLC Cars (mostly due problems with it on Grid 2 and Rally)
Still the most important part with the team is missing. And when I check the Ultimate Edition it says its including seasons 1-3 with new cars etc. So not everything will be free. But maybe I will buy it one day when the extra stuff looks good and I see it in a sale. So far its not worth 70 or 99€
They tried to pander to everyone and in result they failed everyone with the physics. You need to drift AWD cars (GRID 2), you need to kinda drift low powered RWD cars (GRID 2007) and you need to be extremely careful with high powered cars (Autosport). Instead of making assists on or off they decided to make them 0 to 5 and obviously they can be abused by going halfway. In my experience, stability control 2 is stupidly overpowered because it doesn't cut your car's power as much but allows you to go over curbs and bumps without thinking twice and you can just mash the throttle in any RWD car without spinning out.
For me (eSport Team Manager) it’s quite simple: devs are going to give more contents, but via buying DLC and nothing else. Gran Turismo Sport will be the only game to propose free update... and that’s gonna be too bad for it’s proper existence...
so my guess is there is a lot to come. But still, not enough to release it at this price which is sad and is gonna turn a lot of players off. I bought the Ultimate edition or whatever so im hoping for future content. Campaign alone will serve a bunch of hours though
5:58 which difficulty r u playing on? infinite flashbacks? and u havent reached any of the tough events yet . how can u tell what is easier?? i can probably beat everyone on the keyboard on those first events ,especially on the brands hatch. Ai super slow on that track.
Kirill Tsaplin ??? You can give smoother (and easier) inputs on throttle, brakes, and steering on steering wheel compared to controller and keyboard. If you benefit highly from smooth inputs it makes sense to be easier on wheels no?
my another comment was about crazy phisics of this game.. so smoothnest and keeping the car straigth mostly means nothing .its arcade anyway, madly high speed drifting fru some corners ufortunatly much much faster . not sure if its even possible on the wheel
just look at my short video if u want to see what i mean. its not my best attemp but in general i was driving pretty the same (but fucked up few corners) anyway with that stile of driving im on the 18 th place in the world now. not too cool but im100% sure faster than same on the wheel th-cam.com/video/n5ChRV8BAjs/w-d-xo.html
Dlc/Season pass will add just more cars/skins and more tracks. I highly doubt they'll add new features to increase the fun factor and reduce the repetitivity.
i mean just whatever u tell about smooth handling on the wheel ..u will never be faster on it . maybe just on some rare tracks . but tbh the physics of the game is still crazy and sometimes (actually most of the times ) its faster to go with some maaad drifts fru the corners / really faster . -----------------------------------------------------just remember the touring cup 6th event (which u havent passed on gold yet lol) on the "very hard" its impossible to drive normally . half of the track u have to slide into the long or sharp corners because its the only way to take the lead.
According with what you said, seems like this GRID also has a little bit of GRID 2. Basically "try-harding" your way to the finish instead of being precise.
Sample Text lol, it's like being precise when u doing crazy shit on the track ,going sideways and cut corners as much as the game allows u without penalty. But depends of the car anyway ,some of extremely slidy other have super grip on high speed. And I think it not that bad as in grid 2 , u literally could do over 90 degree corner without braking at all with a right drift . On the new grid it's about 50-60 degrees. Or u'll lose all speed
Sample Text I have a video on my channel, advantage of dirty racing line, just go see what i mean. It's not that perfect ,but the first ,last , and lost of the corners between definetly the fastest going sideways
@@GolovaPomidor Yeah man I know, don't worry, but is kinda harder being agressively precise than just precise, and in GRID 2 was almost always required to win, hope that in this GRID isn't
I purchased it and jumped into it for a quick drive yesterday night..Man, I can only say, for me the driving model was just awful. But I'll give it another try after work, maybe I have just to adjust some wheel settings for a better experience..?
Codemasters is one of the best game creators for this genre of all time. The immersion and realism is phenomenal for an arcade racer. This game has just freshly been released an already I see a lot of critique in areas that I already know they're going to work on. I'm sure they'll push more content and updates because they always do. I own the original GRID on Steam and though the engine is outdated, it's still enough to make a good amount of racers look inferior (yes, you, NFS). I plan on getting this after it's first update so they can work out in addressing any outstanding bugs or issues and by then, I'm sure anyone with a full race setup in their house is going to want it too. NEVER make a decision on a game right after it's release or you're rolling the dice between joy and pain. Division 2 is a prime example...got all the hype in the world, then fell flat on it's face. I'm confident that this game is NOT that.
While done by the same people, the GRID games are nothing like TOCA. GRID is an excellent SimCade series that is centered in the fun of driving with lots of fictional tracks, while the TOCA games where Sims with tons of different vehicles racing as ralsitic as it was possible at that time on really existing tracks.
TOCA (at least Toca Race Driver) series arent so much "Sim" as people try to say, the game was so much made for controllers that i prefered play with controllers only than use an wheel
Interesting - it was my first "real" racing game and I always used a wheel. There was even a noticeable difference in the behavior of the wheel based on which vehicle you drove. Especially the trucks!
it's stripped out because CodeMasters are greedy. they want you to buy back everything they took out at as"dlc" the dlc pack available at launch is £25+ which is what ps3 Grid cost back in the day. so to get a game comparable to the original Grid CodeMasters want us mugs (sorry "customers") to pay £100+

@@merhunesdagon7356 You have your point and seems good, the actual thing is the devs making that correctly...
@@sampletext24 Well I love in racing games or any other games when there are a lot of AI
This was an amazing and thorough review, omg. Thanks, i needed this.
These games nowadays lack of "progression" which invests the player in the game, like the entirety of other game genres (because without progression other game genres won't make any sense).
most people play stuffs on multiplayer nowdays, it isnt only on Racing Games genere, its everywere
Ubisoft told that the era of singleplayer games are getting onto the end
Hey Viper what is that music you used when you showed the Grid trailers does anyone know?
I love the rewind cause if you are like me, ADD (not diagnosed), you really need it :)
Great vid, thanks!
Edit: oh and i really like the sounds.
very accurate & precise review (as always ; ), viperconcept...

Riddikulus Spam realization by hanu dixit
I kinda like the basic career mode though.
Will it get boring due to lack of stuff to do? Well yes but after all it just feels simple and not over crowed with too many missions.
What does it mean when fire comes out of the exhaust? Gear shift? Breaking? Sorry, I'm a noob
which Grid is best in your opinion?
I don't see anybody struggling to control the cars while using a controller... Guess il find out one way or another
forza kind of killed the "here's a big bunch of race series using car A and track B" career model mode popular in gran turismo. they keep adding more and more generic series that it feels like a chore to grind them out.
Hopefully they are listening !
Has anybody else noticed that the cars seem to steer from the rear wheels when the camera is in chase mode....very strange...
Undrrrated video. Thanks for the video, viper.
Just realized it's 60 usd, for it's lack of content, you might wanna think about it.
Not me though, one of the perks living in backwards country, the ultimate edition cost is only 24 usd, which is also weird as I never seen such drop
that is nice since it will feat all DLCs
the ultimate + free track DLCs is an nice thing comparated to microtransaction fest that is NFS nowdays

5:37 Hands down The best way to tackle Sims and Simcade Racers. But man, I wish I can buy myself a set.
All the features tick the boxers for it to be a racer
That AI though, that's some next level stuff.
as someone who plays majorly on keyboard, it was way more strange than the controller, but it has some oddities on the behavior of V8s for sure. well, i keep my rewinds at hand when it happens, but i didn't have too much difficulties on getting used to the controller. in fact, it's the first game i dont suffer from the car going straight when turning, because it somehow recognizes when you're moving the stick diagonally than horizontally
Does it have 2 or 4 players split screen?
awesome channel man. this game looks pretty fun. do you do the music for your vids? great songs for sure, keep them coming.
I agree with career mode. It feels very empty. In previous grid games you started low and went all the way up, and here you can almost start any where you want...
Any post launch content after release (except cars, tracks)?!
Free Tracks and DLC Cars
Man imagine this with past features of toca/grid like pit stop, removed tracks like yas marina and nurburgring, and the ability to participate in the 24 hours of le mans.
One great thing about this game, it doesn't need high spec computer for it, it can run 60fps on low settings if you have a pc from 2012+
what are your specs?

Build an arcade racer that is harder with the controller is genius.
But I really liked that title, so I'm looking forward to it now.
grid autosport was the main reason for me to buy a steering wheel because it was impossible to control the RWD cars with keyboard or controller :D however, after i bought my wheel i stopped playing the game because it was not realistic enough to play with a wheel :D
about the controller .. a youtuber called alex gillon found out that the stock setup is bad and it need to be changed to 100% sensitivity and 0 linearity .. may be u can try .. i cannot my self .. i dont have the game yet ^^
about the game .. i dont mind its arcade but i wish it was a bit more sim-like .. closer to the f1 games physic .. i really want to see how this physic would be on the varity of cars of grid ..
u dont need zero linearity u just need to change ur dead zone of the stearing. its 20% by default
Make 0 linearity with 20% ist so wrong . I understand it feel better than stock settings. But i play 5-10% dead zone and 2 linearity .So i can steer smoother in the middle . Give me 10 minutes i'll make the video 4 u
its on my channel . the very last one .go see it:) u'll know where is it at least
i mean realy theres almoust no difference between 0 lineariti and 20 deadzone.
I'll wait a year and get it for 50% of the price but 50% more content
Been waiting for this review
Is it better than project cars 3?
its a great game, but not for $60. I'll wait until both the game and DLC is heavily discounted by June
Of course it lacks of contend.
Thats what the season pass is for.
Codemasters don't do that. GRID has been lacking in content since it started the few reasons it didn't fail was because it's fun. They've never done season pass as far as I know
IZQimchi They have already announced three seasons as well as updates and I think they’re taking the GT sport route of releasing the base game and then updating it in the future however I don’t think there’s going to be as many free updates as gtsport has
Mike Mac oh no, i was actually joking. I did not know that they were going this direction.
I am very disapointed.

YAAA, IT'S REWIND TIME
Just got this game lastnight was reconsidering f1.2019 too but I cant believe this game was nominated for racing game of the year wth. It is like a bit bland whatever it would be nice if it was more depth but I'll go with pC1+2 GTsport and Dirt games. I'll play this when I want an easy race to play.
I don't think Controller is harder to drive, unless you play time attack and hot qualify
Very nice review, you can do it as a job
0:17 Wario Land 3 🥰
Ah, you're a man of culture as well...
It definitely needs fleshing out. Racing around is fine but you need long term goals to keep you playing a game for long periods and get good value out of your £60 spend. Codemasters need to include good career modes. Just letting you pick any race is pretty lazy and the menus are visually uninspiring.
Honestly to me, this is just Grid Autosport 2.
It's worse. They took out the best tracks from that game, and the online playlists and racenet challenges. And it doesn't look that much better either. If you played that game, you cannot be not dissapointed.
completely different games. Arcade and simcade.
I wish Viper would add thoughts on wheel settings and FFB. Oh well, I preorded the standard version after revisiting GRID Autosport and really enjoying it as a back compatible title on xbox. To be honest, I'm a bit worried about the lack of content and features.
Very nice and interesting video, you are really good on reviewing games. Could you review rfactor 2 at some point? Im thinking of buying it
and what about online?
I have the same toughts on the game! I'm playing on PC with a X-Box One Controller and it's quite tricky. In that regard i think the cars should have more grip under acceleration. Especialy the RWD high power ones. And some of them don't like to turn at all and people already developed a handbrake turn meta to top score the leaderboard.
I bought it on Steam, it was on sale with discount (a lot of discount), I returned it after a few days. Graphically excellent, and that would be all it has.
4:45 Exactly. I tried The OG (Race Driver: Grid) with XB360/XBONEX GC. and man, It was tough to get used to it while back.
You should try Assetto Corsa or iRacing with a proper steering wheel... then your thoughts won't be the same. ;-)
@@viperconcept Ok. Thanks for the tip. Good review. 👍
i think it goes to sim-cade class?
.
the only way to enjoying grid is simple
made custom livery... not in-game, but external
So maybe I will buy it in a Sale one day
the game follows more Grid 2/Autosport types of tracks, without pitlanes and stuffs like that
about the DLCs, they confirmed that will be Free Tracks and DLC Cars (mostly due problems with it on Grid 2 and Rally)
Still the most important part with the team is missing. And when I check the Ultimate Edition it says its including seasons 1-3 with new cars etc. So not everything will be free. But maybe I will buy it one day when the extra stuff looks good and I see it in a sale. So far its not worth 70 or 99€
Viperconcept : controller way harder
Me : are you challenging my keyboard skill?
Thanks for review man.
I get the feeling they'll just add most of this game back in as DLC. It's a solid base, but quite barebones.
Devs told that will give free tracks (specially due problems with it on Grid 2 and Dirt Rally 2)
DLCs will be cars only
so my guess is there is a lot to come. But still, not enough to release it at this price which is sad and is gonna turn a lot of players off. I bought the Ultimate edition or whatever so im hoping for future content. Campaign alone will serve a bunch of hours though
they told that they will lunch free tracks to everyone
Ultimate edition gives players free DLC for at least 3 seaons
They didn't release too soon, they probably just calved it up to sell the rest as dlc or season pass
No triples or VR support so anyone with a full race setup should probably avoid this.
@@Cyrenetes Once again...game was just released. Be patient for content.
The devs are thinking in DLC, of course.
Great Review!!!
Please... Pleeeeaaaaseeee...
Make a review on AC Competizione...
The only problem I have with the game is that I feel that all of the cars are geared just a bit to shortly.
The game is on sale for 15.99 on xbox live. 24 if u buy the ultimate edition
it's stripped out because CodeMasters are greedy.
they want you to buy back everything they took out at as"dlc"
the dlc pack available at launch is £25+ which is what ps3 Grid cost back in the day.
so to get a game comparable to the original Grid CodeMasters want us mugs (sorry "customers") to pay £100+
Why did I think the sim arcade definition at 0:42 said "racism" instead of "realism"
