Okay, I actually really like GRID 2019. Yeah, I'm probs one of the few that do. Buuuut, I do understand the hate. The handling's a hit and miss, the career mode can get pretty repetitive (even tho I actually quite enjoyed it whenever I play through it) and I do think that it won't be the classic that the original '08 game is today. But what really saved it for me is deffs the car list, the attention to detail in the way it looks and the handling model when you actually know what you're doing. I totes get the dumb apex systems that you mentioned, tho. Like I said, the handling's very hit and miss - really good if you get it right, but absolutely controller-smashing and rage-inducing when you get it wrong. Oh, and GRID 2019's car sounds are absolute fire. I just wish the game's a lil more alive and has a unique aura to it like the original did. My two cents tho
Yep. As a fun pick up and go racing game I like it too. I also enjoy racing on it just to look at the visual of the tracks. I picked up Dirt 5, and it is very similar feeling to this.
My only problem is that is was just SO BORING. You keep driving on the same five tracks doing nothing but circuit or time attacks for hours on end. I seriously lost motivation to play by the end of it
I get the impression that Codemasters now concentrates most of its developer 'firepower' on the F1 series, with smaller teams working on other projects. GRID 2019 seems to have been motivated mainly by a desire to keep the IP alive: maybe they didn't assign enough resources/time to it. I still have quite high hopes for Dirt 5, because that has been made by the ex-Evolution team who worked on DriveClub and MotorStorm (but also the ill-fated Onrush). Codies clearly want it to be a success, because they need another non-F1 hit, though it's hard to challenge Forza (with its massive Microsoft backing) in the arcade space these days.
1:53 I loved the original GRID and Grid 2. Codemasters also used to publish TOCA Touring Car Championship for the old PS1 as well which I used to play as a kid a lot.
Grid Autosport is my favourite, out of all of them! The 2player split screen, all the cars and tracks from grid 2! In content DLC, the Asthetic of it and overall high quality the game is...and i love how i can play it, backwards Compatible on my Xbox Series X! The best grid game in my opinion, though i do scream for a proper cockpit view and the ability to Pit!
I saw the GRID reveal trailer while I was at an IMSA racing event during a press conference. I was so excited for this game after seeing that, but the actual game didn't really live up to the excitement.
I played grid 2019 with the steering wheel and had so much fun with the steering wheel the cars felt slower and others faster than other cars and some had more grip and some with less grip and more drifty feeling i like grid 2019 because the game feels less arcade like and makes the game feel like more motorsports feeling like more serious because i have to drive different cars with different skills and i like that feeling it makes the game more interesting with the steering wheel I'd say grid 2019 is a great racing game and i love motorsports in real life
The only thing I absolutely love about this game is the engine sounds. There's really no competition to this game on the sound department. Other than that a do agree, it feels incredibly *meh*
how could a 10 years old game be so much better than a modern one? I was really willing to give a try to this game to see any good regard. but with this video finally came into conclusion for me is won't worth it. the main core that makes me engaged with Grid 2008 was the career mode. Codemasters really messed up with this game. dreadful.
If I'm not mistaken, grid autosports popularity wasn't due to the fact that it was released on last gen a year after launch of current(gta 5 was still selling well on last gen systems),but because it didn't meet fans expectations which lead to them trashing the game(there are literally hate comments about grid autosport). But yeah i agree with what you said about grid2019,its a game with lots of potential but such little of it is shown making it an "okay" title.
Being punished for going over apexes in an arcade racer is ludicrous. Im a fan of the original GRID, its subsequent sequels I gave an honest fair shot, this one never excited me. In poland Grid 2 blew up in popularity because of famous polish streamers. We bought it from some cd-key shop for like 2eur with 2DLC's and we're having blast with friends in multiplayer
From my experience, AIs have a very strange passive-agressive system to it. especially with their suicidal "rival" mechanic where the drivers will literally take themselves out with you. It's so annoying. I managed to complete most of the story mode on the hardest difficulty and with no driving assist. and the game is exacltly what you said, "perfectly meh". It didn't offer much to the table. Talking about the kerbs feeling like ice, on their website codemasters said that its a glitch they can't fix. And also to make things worse, a dead multiplayer. I only paid 19.99 for this and I think I got ripped off XD
The definition of an arcade racer for me is that the handling, while not entirely realistic, is somehow plausible and predictable. Unfortunately, I didn't have this feeling at all with Grid 2019. For example, when I switch from another racing game to Grid 2019, I always need a long period of time to get used to it. The handling is completely unpredictable for me in places... And by the way. I agree with everything you said in the video.
i played this game for like 2 hours before i went back to Grid Autosport. The handling and speed are worse and the graphics became washed out. wasn't a fan at all.
It's sad that I think Daytona USA 1/2 have the best since of speed in any racing game ever made. They way that the tires smoke up, the car is shaking violently and the engine sounds is over saturated makes the game have so much personality it's not even funny... That's just the tip of it. Those game came out around 1993/1998 on arcades originally by the way. Over 20 years old and I still think about 'em till this day.
Codemasters really need to step up their performance. Dirt Rally 2 was meh. Grid 2019 is like a reskin. Dirt 5 seems like a tech demo for next gen consoles. Ubisoft was mediocre with games but they try something new. Codemasters is getting stale.
I don't know, I quite like DiRT Rally 2. Not every aspect of it, definitely not the DLC side of it, but for me it was everything DR1 was but more. And the single best feature for me in that game is the daily/weekly/monthly challenges. If you're looking for in-game progression, you're not gonna find it there, but if you want a challenge where you see yourself progress, I think it's quite good.
GRID 2019 is boring when it really shouldn't be. The career menu is just a huge litter of events with no meaning or purpose, you race from one to another with nothing special that happens-just shows how much care was really put into the game. I originally playing it on Xbox One but saw it on sale on PS4 for dirt cheap but even so I haven't bothered to start playing it because I remember just how soul-sapping my experience on Xbox One's version was. I'd rather spend my time dehydrated in a desert for a day than play this again.
Should have just updated the graphics and added a whole lotta extra content to race driver grid. The ai and handling in that game were just well balanced and the career was actually a career
Honestly I like Grid 2019 for what it is: a straight-up no-frill racing simulator (not driving sim, mind you) with decently-curated car list and perhaps the best AI in racing genre. However your criticism is completely spot-on: it feels much less intense than its predecessors, extremely boring career progression, minuscule content, and slightly inconsistent handling physics. Also, I’d love to watch a similar video about what do you think about Project Cars 3. I’m enjoying PC3, but it seems that has lots of bad design decisions similar to Grid 2019
Also I wanted to add on about your point about the AI - I feel like they’re too easy or too hard. One difficulty is just a breeze and the very next is impossible AI speed boost x9000 lol. On the higher difficulties the only way to win is qualify 1st but then that makes it too easy again and there’s barely any battles or actual racing.

No, those are aprons, not apexes. Apex just means the point at which you are closest to the inside of the corner, also called the clipping point. It's not a track feature. Also, so far, in my experience, on both Medium and Hard AI presets, with full and level 3 assists, you can easily drive over them. Now I'm not saying on Ultra Hard with no assists the experience would be identical, but as long as you are not accelerating (especially while cornering hard), it shouldn't automatically cause you to spin out.
The problem with Grid series is that the first one put the bar too high for the follwing games to surpass. The same way with other games where the sequel is not as good as the prequel for exemple Every NFS after NFS MW 05(i know i'm beating a dead horse but while the following games some were good compared to MW 05 they weren't great), Test Drive Unlimited 2, Dirt 3 and 4 (by the looks 5 aswell) against Dirt 2. @@TheJakeMG Honestly I don't love it. But I understand it has it appeal. My problem with criterion physics is that they hold your hand too much with brake to drifting. If you are going to implement it. At least make feel like you are on the edge. Make it somewhat of a challenge.

Fun fact: you could play Grid 08 multiplayer with a Pirated game on the official Codemasters servers and Colin Mcrae Dirt 1 also.
I stopped watching when you said criterion has a good handling model
Good in my eyes = working, stable, and fun.
You might just not like B2D.
@@TheJakeMG Honestly I don't love it. But I understand it has it appeal. My problem with criterion physics is that they hold your hand too much with brake to drifting. If you are going to implement it. At least make feel like you are on the edge. Make it somewhat of a challenge.
i bought this game on sale and still tried to refund it, xbox wouldn't let me lol
anyway I play on PC now
I honestly thought the original grid 2008 was a 2.0 of nfs prostreet
"The apexes in this game spin you out. No other racing game in the world does that". Uhm, have you hear about real racing 3? Well don't judge me I at least played gt6 like almost anything on gold but yeah I kind of want to have a racing game on the go. Well there is assoluto racing which has much better graphics by yeah, it lags a bit on my phone and this game, real racing 3 has a lot of cars and some tracks at least and obviously, it runs smoother to say the least. But tha fucking physics system just kills me. Why the fuck does it slide just like grid 2019? It is so annoying. And yeah I checked out your mobile racing games video and I really wanted to play real racing 2 but there is an "update check" which consists in connecting to ea servers and of course it doesn't work anymore. What I am basically trying to say is that I have no other choice other than real racing 3. It is what it is. Whatever
I want to play online... When stadia came out there where so many players and now I have it on Steam NOBODY PLAY SIT besides friends of mine
