This might be a rare take but you CAN visually transform the cars in this game, albeit only in multiplayer. You can transform a Tier 1 Dodge Charger into an upper tier car with a body kit mimicking that of the Charger Daytona, and so with all the other street cars. Why the hell they didn't implement this into single player? Nobody knows, i suggest anyone curious to check out the hidden body kits throughout youtube, only and exclusively if you were active in Grid 2's multiplayer you would get a chance to know they exist.
this was my childhood game growing up, i'm in love with the sense of progression not only in the vehicles you get to drive, but the sense of progression of your career as wsr becomes more and more of a phenomenon . great video :)
So, the TL;DW is that on its own, Grid2 is a great racing game, but as the successor to the first game, and how it serves the franchise, this is where it all went wrong.
I'm playing Autosport right now on my Switch OLED. Autosport is my favorite racer on the Switch. I own NFS Hot Pursuit Remaster, Mario Cart 8 Deluxe, GRIP, and Nascar Heat on Switch. I own many other racers on Steam and my other consoles. But I keep going back to GRID Autosport.
There's a mod for the PC version that adds cockpit view and changes the physics to be closer to the first GRID game. I only tried a little bit, but it really was a big difference!
I played GRID 2 before playing Race Driver: Grid, so yeah you're so right... I'm thoroughly enjoying the team mechanics and the weight distribution physics.. but all in all, both games are amazing but it's hard to call GRID 2 a sequel fr.
The two things that detracted from Grid2 the most for me and made me not finish it were firstly the AI, I just remember it being the case that you had two choices, A) overtake everyone in the first 30-60 seconds and then drive around lonely for the rest of the race bored out of your mind just waiting for it to end because once you got past them they just gave up and fell behind, giving you no incentive to actually try OR B) you lose the race because if you haven't passed everyone within those 30 seconds or so the lead pack speed off into the distance and no amount of perfection from your driving will allow you to catch up... seems to be a common thing in codies games though... Secondly the handling annoyed me because drifting was too overpowered, you couldn't drive "properly" and expect to be fast... to add to that I don't remember drifting even being that satisfying, at least if it were I could suspend my disbelief in the fact that drifting should be slower except in some very specific circumstances as I do when playing NFS games where drifting is fast but at least it's satisfying to drift.
i played this game a hour ago for the third time now and i love the Theme of Garage 2 its so chilling it screams ''why am i here to risk my life ? yea i wanna win but i dont wanna risk my life'' thats the vibes i LOVE in such raving games
@ yes he did it rly good, also my rly close second Favoritene is Garage 3 sometimes when I dir in my own Sportscar (Subaru) I listen to those 2 Songs and just think about life and what I have accomplished
Hey dude, just want to leave a positive comment. I've been watching your videos for quite sometimes now. You are truly one of THE BEST racing game reviewer/commenter that I've ever encountered. Keep up the good work, man.
I love how the crowds react to your driving in the street circuits and depending on which country you're racing, their accent also changes. Also the team radio being slightly distorted when you go under a tunnel is a neat little detail. But boy oh boy the drift2win physics model makes it so easy to die in this game (Speaking from experience 😂). Some cars are even just straight up painful to drive. If Grid 2 had Grid 1 or even Autosport's physics, I think people would have receive this game a lot better.
I'm still playing GRID 2 and I love it. It's even incredible that the game's online is still active (only on Steam and changing the game region to Warsaw - Poland). Also, unfortunately, the DLCs were removed from the store. There's a mod that allows you to have them and still allows you to use them in online mode.
Crazy how underrated this channel is. I watched the Hotwheels Unleashed 2 Video and immediately bought the game and it is a blast. I also subscribed to the channel now as i watched so many of your videos. Such a chill approach and very well edited. Thanks for the superb content!
Great video, really showcases the strong points of Grid 2. For me Grid 1 was mind blowing game. The graphics, campaign, management at that time + drifting physics. When Grid 2 came out I bought it immediately, played through the single player and have never touched it again. At the same time - Grid 1 is installed and I play it regularly still.
Man, I've been watching your content lately and I really like your takes on these old racing games. In Grid1 you mentined that stylised menus & stuff which most reviewers don't talk about. I also watched your take on NFS games and you did great job there as well. You are only person who didn't just bashed NFS Payback but mentioned the good in it, same with NFS rivals & some other commonly hated NFS games, Sure these games were sabotaged by EA but I still enjoyed them & your videos reminds me why I liked them for the reasons I might not have realised back then. Sorry for long comment.
Thanks a lot for the kind words man, genuinely means a lot! I do try to take a different perspective and i'm glad that the little things I mention resonated with you. And dont worry, I love the long comments
You know it took me a youtuber and a second playthrough to understand it's handling model, when it clicked for me. Oh joy, drifting through corners and being aggresive is what made me enjoyed more than autosport ever did even though I put more hours into autosport than grid 2 due to more easily accessed online multiplayer. Grid 2 to me is the best arcade racer for the 7th gen consoles by far.
Hello there some notes from someone who got my own share of grid 2 gaming (i host tournaments to this day), 1. there is a mod for a inside car camera, and devs mentioned that camera from the inside was suppose to be ingame but was scrapped almost at the end since it felt wreid with the handling, it looked similiar to dirt 3 inside cam from what we know 2. 6:15 those cutscenes are prerendered, they are videos that are saved in the files and the player name is put on top of the video, fancy trick but works well 3. the handling probably felt wreid because from what im seeing you tried to grip most of the time, where this game handling pushes you to try drift almost every corner in any car, of course grip is in some cars fun but i agree it feels wreid most cases, and to drift you need to get used to it, like learning a bike -and glad you enjoyed one of my fav games, im not a person who enjoys grid 1 and usually grid 1 people really dont like this game so im glad you looked at it in positive light 😆
I've learned about Codemasters 2 years ago. I am someone in the new generation, but i grew up with stuff like hotwheels, ps3, and more. I was VERY surprised that i missed this game years ago. I had my old ps3 that got passed to me from my older brother. 1 or 2 years ago, my older brother bought me 7 racing games for the ps3, and that had 5 Codemasters games in it. I really enjoyed the video. You got a new sub and got a new person in your discord server!!! Keep it up!!! (I wrote a little bad cuz I am very tired lmao)
With this video, i am convinced that UltraViolet is watching me. I've recently played both Race Driver Grid and GRID 2. I loved them both and wanted to hear other people's opinions about them. And here he is making videos about the both of them. I appreciate it a bunch. Love your videos, you show such insincerity.
I don't care what anyone says, this Is. The. Best. Racing. Game. period. Easy to pick up and play, has all kinds of disciplines, extremely fast paced arcade physics (never cared for sims) And back when this game was free on Steam, it was basically the absolute best "I just came home from work i don't care to finelly tune the front tyre pressure" online racing experience available
I love the online mode in this game, each race is a hell of a competition with people crashing, spinning out and catching each other on the curves. Easily one of the most fun racing games out there
I remember my dad bringing this game for me, alongside with TDU2, Blur as birthday gifts. This game truly had the 2010s vibe, I mean look game’s cover photo. The vibe was certainly real too! Man miss when racing games were really simple and fun
My brain can't quite compute this game is GRID 2. Autosport was my first game in the series, and i grew accustomed to these camera angles, models, lighting, reflections and even some movements of the HUD, so seeing them evet so slightly altered is a little confusing
The OVERTAKE mode!! God Damn, that is the best unique mode I played in any game, never saw anything like it in any other game, and no one talks about it! I love that it really pushes you to go both for speed and controlled clean racing, as well as predicting the racing lines of other cars and your own... I love it, and it is shameful that it only comes up some 5 times in the career, and only on invitational (once you have done each, it is gone). It is the thing I remember the most from this game! Also, this is one of the very last modern games with split screen racing. Like last month me and my gf wanted to race agaisnt each other, this was the one I pulled up.
Grid 2 is just amazing, love playing it to this day picked it up for free randomly on Steam and have since played through it multiple times, always enjoyable.
13:19 - THIS. This sort of weird "inconsistent consistency" feeling. Its odd enough where as a kid, my first entire playthrough i went from a 2/10 handling to 6-7/10 handling car and back ALL THE FRICKIN TIME. Custom race Indycar in downhill touge is a 9/10 though, most fun i've had in GRID 2 ever. Second time the handling model felt sort of 5/10 or 6/10, but then the game became forgettable instead. Didn't enjoy embracing the drifty races.
I own this game at 2013 in pirated version. In 2019 I got it from Humble Bundle, and start buying some DLC. The handling is really best for me. Drift, Balance, and Grip well built. This is the best drift physic as well as Touge Max series, Option, Ridge Racer and Japanese drift games.
the first Grid i think its called Grid Race Driver is one of my favorite racers ever but all the sequels never hit for some reason until Grid Legends a few years ago and it won me back. been loving Legends so far.
@@UltraViolet_Moses Man, you're the authority when it comes to racing game retrospectives. Crap, I noticed I haven't subscribed yet. Let me fix that, brother.
Played the game for the first time this year, and yes, its BEAUTIFUL. i could just stare at the cars during all the day. Worst part of the game for me its the lack of race tracks. I wish it had more races on Portimão circuit, i just love that track. Nice video!
Can't wait to watch this video, and I can't wait for the rest of the others in the future. We're all glad you spent time on this franchise. Absolute cinema review. There is something about this kind of arcade cabnet progression of racing games, just how this game's flow of atmosphere and action is something that makes Grid 2 as special as the first honestly, it grew on me. P.S Merry Christmas 🎉
I liked this entry because of the multiplayer component. I was never into racing much, only played pure arcades like need for speed. Liked Shift 1 and ToCA 1, though. I tried Grid 1 as a kid, but it didn't invest me much, especially because of drifting mechanics that I couldn't really get back then. With the clean racing system and constant tire pop when picking T4 SLR, I learned more respectful play style with the cars and people around me. It got me invested more in racing games with simulation elements. Good times.
Another great video! I'm also mixed on this game. It was one of the first I picked up when I made the shift from console to PC, yet I never finished it. I always had this weird on and off where at one moment it would be a blast but then I'd feel detached from it and wouldn't it touch it for a while before going back and having a blast again. If I had to pin it on something, it's that comment at the end. It has solid mechanics but it feels like an auto sport predecessor more than a GRID sequel. This video makes me want to reinstall and give it another go though! The comment makes it sound more negative than I mean too, because ultimately i really enjoyed this game, it was easy to play a track or 2 between classes in college when I didn't have a chance to play anything that would require a bigger time sink Great video. Looking forward to the next!
a few grid 2 tracks have been ported to assetto corsa, and you can drive there in first person. It's a blast with assetto's physics. Chicago, Paris, London and Tokyo iirc.
Grid 2 is my favorite in the series. Yes i know lots of people didn't vibe with the handling and to an extent i get it, but it suited me just fine and the brighter and more vibrant yet still a bit grungy atmosphere was perfect for me. I also got scarily good at it while playing with keyboard, i used to play this nonstop as a kid so that helped a lot lmao.
The problem with grid 2 handling model is that the game wants you to " brake to drift " most corners. ( because on higher difficulties if you don't , you are seconds behind your opponents/ time ). While in grid 2008 you had a grip model that can be hard braked to drift certain corners to get an angle. Clearly race driver grid's model is the best since the driver has to determine which corners to grip and which to mildly drift. When its grid 2 slamming the brakes just sends you to a drift and you just drift all corners. Grid autosport sort of fixes the handling but adds new problems like the entire game being just sponsored events ( this is just one mode in grid 2008) and later championships having like 10 races ( each having 2 rounds ) which feel like an eternity. NOTE : assists in grid autosport make your car slower which is ridiculous. Leave everything off except ABS.
All my life I've a forza guy, but until now, I opened up to the arcade racing genre. I saw your nfs Hot Pursuit review and decided to give it a try and I instantly fell in love with the art and engine sounds. Grid seems like an awesome adrenaline-packed racing game! Rn grid autosport is on the xbox store and grid legends is on sale for $9. Can't wait for both reviews to decide on buying them. You are the absolute best giving retrospectives, keep it up with the quality 👏
Def my favorite Grid although it has been quite a while since I’ve played the first game. The thing that blows me away is that this game is gorgeous especially for when it released and it’s very easy to run on modern day computers. I feel like every grid after 2 was based off 2
Good news for you, I’ve just bought the game again on PC which will make getting footage a dream. Still have a few games ahead of the line to review first though
@ as long as it’s coming eventually lol. You poor a lot of passion into your videos so take your time. I just finished the driveclub one (I’ve been on a binge) and it’s like you said.. a rushed game is destined to fail, but a delayed one can be made great. Something like that anyways.. take your time, I love the videos!!
@@UltraViolet_Moses and of course, not to overwhelm you, but the crew 1 I think would be a great addition. You do a great job at dissecting campaigns in these racing games, and I thought the first game actually did pretty good, and was a fresh addition to the racing genre. But I’d love to hear your thoughts in the future!! Thanks for putting these videos out there and bringing me back to the childhood days. I just picked up hot pursuit a couple days ago because of your video haha.
I know you talked about it in the Race Driver video, but I'm always deeply saddened when people do retrospectives on GRID and never even once mention the amazing music that Ian Livingstone poured his soul into. Now, I'll admit it, I'm absolutely addicted to this man's music and listen to it every day, he's the man that made GRID what it is to me, and it's so depressing that there's only a silent minority of us truly appreciating it. Hell, the only reason I even bought Legends despite knowing it would never run on my PC was to extract the tracks and make mixes of his music to my personal taste (Also, this might be weird to say, even more so for a Racing game's MUSIC at that, but when I first heard the remake of Razor's Edge that came out with the Rise of Ravenwest DLC for Legends, with the now added chanting/choir that's present in every Legends track that Ian made, I absolutely bawled my eyes out on my first listen when simultaneously recalling how the original track goes, and I'm never the one to cry over anything ever, maybe I had such a dramatic reacting to it because I was still a kid when I played the first game and still remembered the original tracks so vividly). And every new entry, Ian just takes it up a step above, from Race Driver, to GRID 2, to Legends, I'm mainly a fan of GRID precisely because of the music, and I will glaze this man that gave us such eargasms until the day i die. Sorry for my incoherent ramblings, rant over.
13:30 Grid 2 physics model highly benefits aggressive driving. That "weight" on the rear axle what you mentioned later in the video is actually an immense grip which appears progressively with increase of slide angle. Some cars are more prone to this, and hence - retain more speed through drift. That specific trait of Grid 2 handling lets some tier 3 drift cars (like Evo or S13) to set some of the fastest times on tracks like miami and other really corner based routes. Some grip cars are barely drivable in online, cause their inability to execute smooth and controllable drift - just kills all speed in corners way too quickly. All of that simply forces players in online to pick slidy cars and drive sideways. Singleplayer is also far more enjoyable when you drift much more than you supposed too. I highly recommend checking out online and the way people drive there. On Steam, servers are still open and there're still more players online compared to some new Grid titles. I personally have 700+ hours in Grid 2 and can guarantee that this game provided one of the most intense online racing experiences out there.
10/10 Music 10/10 Atmosphere/Vibes 7/10 Customization 2/10 Handling This could've easily been the second-best game in the series and be extremely close to the first one at being the best if they didn't make the handling overly arcady and drifty. I don't know why they decided to alienate their existing players with that handling. The perfect Grid game would be something that combines the best of Race Driver: Grid, GRID 2 and GRID Legends.
I’d say the handling was more of a 5.5 i actually liked how Arcadey it was made It’s Drift events look fun as hell coupled with the designs of the Haruna Kyojin cars. Much like the Kowloon Dragons car designs.
@@jj_mccarron I'm not comparing the handling with games from other series. I play Grid for what it says to be offering -- a pro-racing scene experience. People got into the first game because of its stable, predictable handling that encourages players to push the cars even faster. Like the video says, GRID 2 makes you lose that confidence for high speeds and tight corners. It's not a good experience in late-game, especially in higher difficulties, as the races have both high-speed and tight-corners. Are you sure that what you think is "fun handling" is not just the combination of camera-shake and visual effects? Your logic is the same as what makes some people think that NFSMW'12 didn't deserve the hate, whereas the actual reality is that NFS fans didn't want Burnout-style handling in an NFS game.
@@SpeedDemonPowerage98 being fun only during drifting doesn't justify it for the rest of the modes, all of which require gripping through corners. Besides, if you think it made "drift events look fun", are you sure that it's not the combination of camera-shake and visual effects? They can make a huge difference on how you perceive the action.
I kinda have to disagree when it comes to the driving physics in this game. I personally think they are amazing and while they're arcady af, I actually found them to be very intuitive, even when I played it for the very first time (having played the first game before that) and one of the main reasons why I think they are so good, has to be how communicative it feels. The game does such a great job of communicating small things about the road surface through stuff like sound design (like tire squeaking, the car's engine and other stuff), as well as visual feedback (like subtle camera shaking when the tires lose grip, or the back slightly kicking out, when you're right on the limit and almost about to lose traction). It's small things like that that really give you a feeling for what's going on between the vehicle and the road in every single moment. Even when you're playing with a keyboard you can basically feel the road surface and how much your car has to give. All of this gives you the confidence to pull some really crazy maneuvers in this game which, while not realistic at all, just feels very satisfying and rewarding. I don't think I have ever played an arcade style racing game that did all of this as well as Grid 2
The ending segment hit hard, due to how much I loved GRID 1 this was the first and only game I bought blindly and it's also the reason why the word "only" is in this sentence. It's GRID 1 but made less special, a trend that would sadly continue for a few more sequels.
For me Grid 2 always felt like more like a PGR game than a proper sequel to the original Grid but even then I’ve always really enjoyed the game for what it is
Say what you want about this game, but the Menu soundtrack (like the first game) is again phenomenal. Love the way it evolves over 5 times when upgrading garages. They’ve all got a special feeling about them. Together with Vintage Warmer from RD Grid and the Gran Turismo Arcade themes, this game’s menu soundtrack is top 5 is gaming for me.
The trailers and gameplay footage certainly put me off getting it back in the day. Upon playing it, I loved the presentation and music, but my eyes almost rolled out of my head when the game skinned the progression points as social media followers. I would still kill for a proper sequel to GRID, with expanded tracks, car list, more team management, pit stops etc. Also, the original game had 3 garages, did it not?
GRID 2 is one of the only RACE DRIVER // GRID series I've ever played. I was hyped on this game because of the way our boss, Patrick Callahan, presents his vision of racing and his dream of make a big racing championship, comparing the Driver to a Businessman in all of the trailers he has spoken. The trailers for this game told me a small story I was so invested in. Then I've heard the news, that the game is trash compared to GRID 1 because it's "arcadey", has no racing strategies, the career which was a lackluster. I became hesistant to buy the game, but I did not have the chance to get RACE DRIVER GRID... So, when I saw that GRID 2 was in promo on Steam, I Jumped in... and this game is to me one the greatest racing games I have ever played in my life. Everything in this game is orchestrated to be Intense from A to Z when you're racing against your opponents. The AI, the Physics, the Music, the Atmosphere are harmonized to make sure that I, the player, was immerged not only as an actor but also as a spectator. Speaking of Music, this game alone is to me the reason why I consider Ian Livingstone as THE greatest composer ever ( better than Brian Tyler, Hans Zimmer, Paul Linford, Joseph Trapanese etc ). I still has goosebumps everytime I hear the Eliminator Theme or Adrenaline Rush. I still got chills when I stay in the garage for 30 mins looking at the Mustang. He puts his music where it matters the most in each race. GRID 2 is the greatest "Show and Don't Tell" Racing Game I have ever played
My big brother played Racedriver GRID when he was a kid!! I played the demo version when i was 6 or 7. Got the full game for Christmas 2023. My big brother admired the nissan skyline in both games. I only lost to him once while he absolutely got demolished in 2 player. Goated game. And its cool i respect your opinion.
Yeessss I was waiting for this video considering I recently got into playing the older GRID games and felt that GRID 2 was so close to being good but it had a few things that just pissed me off
It's weird cos' the OG GRID was emphasized more on closed tracks, 2 however had a more heavy emphasis on street tracks which was why there were only 3 (?) irl circuits in game. Still enjoy both tho
I remember when the credits rolled I said " No already?!" out loud. This was such a great game and when Grid Autosport came out I indeed looked at Grid2 like a prologue version. Autosport was also great and we had a lot of fun racing with the world online while being in splitscreen.👍🏻
I played Grid 2 at release, but couldn't get a grip on the physics. Back then it was fun enough to play together with a friend for a few hours, but I didn't stick with the game for long. The tracks did stick in my head though. And this year has been the racing game year for me, which, of course, meant I've replayed the GRID series. And this time I decided to fully embrace Grid 2's drift oriented physics, and holey sheet, the game is so much fun! It has become by far my favorite break-to-drift game, and I enjoyed that play stile like I didn't even know I ever could. And the tracks! Oh, the tracks! I freaking love this game's tracks design. These tracks has been stuck in my head for 12 years since release, and for the damn good reason - they are so well designed and fun to drive on. This game shows that city tracks can actually be FUN and exciting, in striking contrast with Gran Turismo's flat-out-straignt-into-90-degrees-into-flat-out-straight-into-hairpin phylosophy. The main downside of this game for me is the career. It is soooooooo freaking overstretched in the later half and outstays its welcome way beyond reasonable. It feels like the last season alone is longer then the rest of the career combined.
I got a feeling we could go into a dark age of racing games...the lead up to grid was code masters code mastering on the ps1 and beyond...multi gen high level dev racing game skills dont come over night etc. The grid series shall only grow more respected in the upcoming dark ages!
I loved the original Grid so much when it was new. Having amazing damage and rewind functions was awesome. When the second game came out I preordered it and played it for probably a couple hours before I was so disappointed I tried to return it or sell it but when GameStop offers 30 bucks for a day old game I just kept it and never went back... I just could not get behind how much more arcade it felt compared to the OG and the other codemasters DIRT games.
Could you make a video about Grid Autosport ? I feel like it’s the forgotten one in the series but I remember how excited I was when the first trailers dropped, it looked so cool and focused on real racing series I couldn’t wait to try it out I’d love to have your opinion on this game
Recently completed Grid 2 on Steam Deck and it's fantastic experience. Now I'm finishing Grid Autosport - it's a different game, yet still very very good. Looking forward to trying 2019 and Legends.
I absolutely love GRID 2. Finished it a couple of weeks ago and it never gets old. The car list is perfect, the tracks are awesome : specially when on the streets of Paris and Barcelona where the atmosphere of the game shines. Loved the race types along with promo events. The handling is challenging but so freaking satisfying, like nailing a perfect drift around a corner. Like another commenter said, I don't care what other's think. This game is so underrated and underappreciated.
I loved that game, sadly I couldn't complete it, at some point in the campaign, the game froze everytime a race was loading, so it was impossible to make any progress.
Grid 2, eventhough can't compare to the original Racedriver Grid, was so damn enjoyable to the point I'm not even bother that much in restarting the whole storymode 3 times. Also the thing that worth mentioning is how Grid 2's ost are just some of the best that I've heard (my personal fan are definetly Garage 4 and Elinimation theme)
Yeah I was so hyped for Grid 2 after Grid (bought both day 1) and Grid 2 was sooooo different. I loved the social approach of Grid and how fun the destruction derby and drift were online… Grid 2 lacked that
In Poland game was really popular not only for campaign but also multiplayer. You can see complications of rage on multiplayer and also people having fun in multiplayer. I think personally that majority of players want racing game that is simple not much realistic and GRID 2 offered exactly that while NFS game went downhill back then. I enjoy this game just like plenty of people. Best Regards
I believe someone is working on a mod to get them in single player, not out yet but when its out I'm willing to give it a try.
this was my childhood game growing up, i'm in love with the sense of progression not only in the vehicles you get to drive, but the sense of progression of your career as wsr becomes more and more of a phenomenon . great video :)
Thank you!
This game still looks damn good by modern gen standards let alone the 360 gen
Grid 2's music went crazy although I preferred the original structure, handling, and atmosphere of Grid 1.
hey MrWaifu fancy seeing you here I see you alot in Theprofessional's videos lol
So, the TL;DW is that on its own, Grid2 is a great racing game, but as the successor to the first game, and how it serves the franchise, this is where it all went wrong.
This is a weird ass Silent Hill game, never heard of it before.
James if he took the keys and drove to Chicago instead of Silent Hill
Joke of the week.
Touge drifting through Silent Hill
This had me laughing. Good joke man😂
Something else I love is how well the graphics have aged in Grid 2 and Autosport . . . They still hold up
Can't wait for the Autosport one next!
Another banger man, much appreciated. Have a splendid holiday!!
Happy holidays to you too
The two things that detracted from Grid2 the most for me and made me not finish it were firstly the AI, I just remember it being the case that you had two choices, A) overtake everyone in the first 30-60 seconds and then drive around lonely for the rest of the race bored out of your mind just waiting for it to end because once you got past them they just gave up and fell behind, giving you no incentive to actually try OR B) you lose the race because if you haven't passed everyone within those 30 seconds or so the lead pack speed off into the distance and no amount of perfection from your driving will allow you to catch up... seems to be a common thing in codies games though...

Hey dude, just want to leave a positive comment. I've been watching your videos for quite sometimes now. You are truly one of THE BEST racing game reviewer/commenter that I've ever encountered. Keep up the good work, man.
Thank you so much, comments like this keep me workin at my best
This game had an insane special edition that came with a REAL LIFE BAC Mono
Great video, really showcases the strong points of Grid 2. For me Grid 1 was mind blowing game. The graphics, campaign, management at that time + drifting physics. When Grid 2 came out I bought it immediately, played through the single player and have never touched it again. At the same time - Grid 1 is installed and I play it regularly still.
Thank you, that’s exactly what I like to hear
Grid 2 is also one of the best split-screen racing games you can play on PC.
Really appreciate the way you are describing grid 2 as i got similar feelings about it 💪 Can't wait for another video
Glad to hear it! Got lots more coming
Hello there some notes from someone who got my own share of grid 2 gaming (i host tournaments to this day),
1. there is a mod for a inside car camera, and devs mentioned that camera from the inside was suppose to be ingame but was scrapped almost at the end since it felt wreid with the handling, it looked similiar to dirt 3 inside cam from what we know
2. 6:15 those cutscenes are prerendered, they are videos that are saved in the files and the player name is put on top of the video, fancy trick but works well
3. the handling probably felt wreid because from what im seeing you tried to grip most of the time, where this game handling pushes you to try drift almost every corner in any car, of course grip is in some cars fun but i agree it feels wreid most cases, and to drift you need to get used to it, like learning a bike
-and glad you enjoyed one of my fav games, im not a person who enjoys grid 1 and usually grid 1 people really dont like this game so im glad you looked at it in positive light 😆
Thanks dude!
@@UltraViolet_Moses No problem!!!
Thanks dude!
That last point is 100% true, we need more pick up and play no BS racers that aren’t open world
Test drive unlimited 1 on PS2 and Xbox 360 is the best racing game ever made, grid gets third after Forza horizon 1
Agreed I only wish they gave us the freedom to set a drift, balanced and grip build for each car
Im with you, i dont really care for sims anymore
You spelt Race Driver Grid incorrectly.
I love the online mode in this game, each race is a hell of a competition with people crashing, spinning out and catching each other on the curves. Easily one of the most fun racing games out there
Is a shame is pretty much dead at this point, I tried to play again but had no sucess
I got so deeply Gridpilled by the first Grid and it's wild how they've never once recaptured it
Grid 2 is just amazing, love playing it to this day picked it up for free randomly on Steam and have since played through it multiple times, always enjoyable.
It's my favorite GRID game and one of my favorite racing games. It's probably the only game I've ever completed twice.
the first Grid i think its called Grid Race Driver is one of my favorite racers ever but all the sequels never hit for some reason until Grid Legends a few years ago and it won me back. been loving Legends so far.
I see an UltraViolet video, I click immediately. This guy is goated.
Thank you brother, the kind words mean a lot
Thank you and Merry Christmas!
racing games often age with so much grace. man does this still look effing good.
Coming from Project Gotham Racing, I felt right at home with GRID 2s Semi Arcade physics, luxury cars and city tracks.
love this video
and the ost choices in it
I'll never forget the sound of the SL 65 Black in this game, just amazing.
The comment makes it sound more negative than I mean too, because ultimately i really enjoyed this game, it was easy to play a track or 2 between classes in college when I didn't have a chance to play anything that would require a bigger time sink
Great video. Looking forward to the next!
Thank you! Definitely recommend re-installing it and going for a spin
Worth of mention is the soundtrack. Te way is used (mainly elimination) still keeps that perfect momentum that was in the Original
a few grid 2 tracks have been ported to assetto corsa, and you can drive there in first person.

Thanks for the kind words king, appreciate it
Split second when?
I just bought the game again, so sometime in the next few months likely
@UltraViolet_Moses Aight
Def my favorite Grid although it has been quite a while since I’ve played the first game. The thing that blows me away is that this game is gorgeous especially for when it released and it’s very easy to run on modern day computers. I feel like every grid after 2 was based off 2
MOSESSSSSS!!! Where is a split second video??? We damn need that!!
FM4 menu music is the most nostalgic sound of my times.
Fun! That's how I would describe GRID 2.
Was my first GRID game, then I bought Autosport and the first game.
The music is much more different, no longer is it dynamic, but it is VERY intense
I wish this one was on iOS
I replayed it this year in 4K and was just shocked how good it stood the test of time. OK, time to go back to first Grid.
It does look like the cars want to drift through corners in all the footage instead of taking the corners nice and clean.
I remember getting this game for Christmas lol. I used to play the 2 player all the time with my brother
10/10 Music
10/10 Atmosphere/Vibes
7/10 Customization
2/10 Handling
This could've easily been the second-best game in the series and be extremely close to the first one at being the best if they didn't make the handling overly arcady and drifty. I don't know why they decided to alienate their existing players with that handling. The perfect Grid game would be something that combines the best of Race Driver: Grid, GRID 2 and GRID Legends.
2/10 handling
handling is atleast a 6/10, not as good as forza 4 but much better than the nfs games at the time. for an arcade racer it was very fun in faster cars
I never played Grid 2 I have the OG and the Reboot on my Series X… I’ll get this one on eBay. Great Retrospective!
Really doesn't like how easily my car spin out control, sometimes it took only. Single bump
The problem is how slide-y the driving physics are. Sometimes i just wanna break the corner without me being automatically forced into slide or drift.
I love hopping on grid 2 just for the nostalgia
The trailers and gameplay footage certainly put me off getting it back in the day. Upon playing it, I loved the presentation and music, but my eyes almost rolled out of my head when the game skinned the progression points as social media followers. I would still kill for a proper sequel to GRID, with expanded tracks, car list, more team management, pit stops etc. Also, the original game had 3 garages, did it not?
Grid 2 is where I learnt you gotta use the brakes on turns properly instead of just handbraking through and using nitrous on exit XD
Grid legends next ??
Got 2 more games to get through first
GRID 2 is one of the only RACE DRIVER // GRID series I've ever played.
I just don't like the handling, that's all
First Grid has some of the best feeling arcade handling ever, so I much rather play that instead
This game was really fun and the split screen multiplayer was good
I loved the original Grid so much when it was new.
The most underrated racing game ever made. I love it so much...
Could you make a video about Grid Autosport ? I feel like it’s the forgotten one in the series but I remember how excited I was when the first trailers dropped, it looked so cool and focused on real racing series I couldn’t wait to try it out
I’d love to have your opinion on this game
I think this is a great game, despite Ravenwest's absence.
Vibes over gameplay 😎❤️
Tbh any racing game that includes aussie cars is good in my book.
Recently completed Grid 2 on Steam Deck and it's fantastic experience.
Now I'm finishing Grid Autosport - it's a different game, yet still very very good. Looking forward to trying 2019 and Legends.
Wondering if I should get Autosport. Is it worth it?
grid 2 is my introductory to codemasters game, after that is dirt 3 and then going back to dirt 2 and racedriver grid
6:58 Is it just me or does one of those AI Voices that is often used in Shorts sound very similar to Patrick´s voice?
100%, they use a similar voice in ads too, sounds like he wants to sell me a knock off portable charger
Yeah I was so hyped for Grid 2 after Grid (bought both day 1) and Grid 2 was sooooo different. I loved the social approach of Grid and how fun the destruction derby and drift were online… Grid 2 lacked that
at least there's no shoehorned in fake sponsors...
Loved this game despite the lack of cars
In Poland game was really popular not only for campaign but also multiplayer. You can see complications of rage on multiplayer and also people having fun in multiplayer. I think personally that majority of players want racing game that is simple not much realistic and GRID 2 offered exactly that while NFS game went downhill back then. I enjoy this game just like plenty of people.
Best Regards
