  • In this video, we show you how a wastegate on a turbo works. We also discuss internal vs external wastegates, why stock turbos generally have an internal wastegate, and why you would want or need an external wastegate.

      So wastegates keep turbo speed steady or do they slow down the turbo?

    I have plans to turbo my Miata. Watching this video basically tells me that I don't need an external wastegate for an engine that is only going to be making about 250 horsepower at the wheels.

    Hey man, I am wanting to install a catless DP on my WRX, but I am scared of boost creep. What else needs to be done to convert from an IWG to EWG? I am upgrading my stock turbo to an STI one while doing the DP as well. Is it better to just buy a High Flow Catted Downpipe instead of trying to install a catless DP and converting to EWG?

    Nice video! i have a little issue with my Td04-19t on my saab 9-3. In 2nd and 3rd gear it does have 1.6 bar all the way up to redline (sometimes rarely it holds 0.5 bar when i floor it wich is base boost pressure) Yesterday i went for a top speed run and a 60-120 test but in 4th and 5th gear in high rpms is only has max 0.5 bar. Barely could get to 120 with 330hp at the crank. My previous setup had a T25 widh about 240hp which got to 150 mph and ideas?

    Hi, the actuator for my wastegate is not holding pressure. The wastegate flapper is shut closed. But the actuator rod does move and open the wastegate when I applied pressure to the actuator. The flapper has no play and sits tight. Can a stucked CLOSED wastegate flapper cause P0299 code. I am getting a P0299 with closed wastegate flapper. Is this possible? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

    Which internally wastegated turbo was the porsche (that blew the engine) using? Without being too blunt, if you don't or can't name the brand, it makes it hard to believe any successful products you might mention.

      Ed Mathews while I do enjoy me some quattros (I own several old 5cyl cars and two D2 A8q), there are plenty of other VAG shops in our area and we are completely overwhelmingly busy with Porsche work. If we added VAG services I'd have to buy a bigger building!

    What you said is incorrect. You CAN have external waste gate on the stock set up, you just need to weld the flapper shut and weld a wastegate pipe off your manifold or rear housing

    • @bigsalo8598
      @bigsalo8598 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if you weld a wastegate pipe off the manifold it's not stock anymore

      Hello @imTriiBz
      I found your comments interesting
      What, do you mean by weld the flapper ?
      So, can I have external WG with the stock internal WG and both works together..
      Like when over boost the external WG opens, otherwise the internal do the job…

    • @WajebWahab
      @WajebWahab 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vanhabib10 no he meant you weld the stock on so it won't move anymore and completely fabricate your stock exhaust manifold with an extra pipe to hold an external wastegate.

  • @Mikey6048
    @Mikey6048 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would debate against the comment regarding larger turbos and higher HP needing EWG over smaller ones. Boost creep happens on any size Turbocharger depending on the circumstances.
    Great video otherwise though.
