@@riseofazrael sometimes people will overplay and be too fancy or overly technical when it's not needed. You can tell by how close her version is to the original that she and Joey both knew what works best for the song and not what would be flashy

I fully believe that Slipknot could introduce her as a guest drummer with the kit she's on now and the fans would STILL love her take on the song and rock the fuck out.

We usually have bad experiences when we show confidence, most times guys just LOVE to put a confident woman down by calling her a bitch. 🤢
You know, quite a few people don't give pop drummers enough credit. Sure, some may not be the most technical or flashiest of drummers out there, but they can maintain consistent beats, have good accent timing, and just have fun doing what they do. But they may be far more capable drummers than we give them credit for.
Think about this, Domino is primarily a pop drummer; she has never heard this song before the video and had to improvise drum parts. The fact that she put together a great beat like this on the fly after a few listens and displayed this talent is VERY impressive. She could be more of a metal drummer if she wanted to. Just goes to show you, just because Domino is a pop drummer, doesn't mean she can't play anything else including metal; the same could be said for many other drummers out there. Truly a versatile drummer she is! LOVED this video!
Very true. Big pop acts typically hire top-level drummers: Dave Elitch has played with Miley Cyrus and M83, Tony Royster Jr with Katy Perry, Aaron Spears with Usher, Abe Laboriel Jr with Paul McCartney, Gregg Bissonette with Ringo, the list goes on and on. Typically, the required material isn't that difficult to play, but with these cats there's just a level of rock-solid professionalism, which includes being able to learn new material VERY quickly. I think Dave has said that before hitting the road, he only ran the material once with Miley's band (similar situation with Mars Volta, which is much crazier still, but off topic).
And yeah, besides that, it's not just about WHAT you play, but about HOW and WHY. My impression is that a big part of the metal community gets stuck on the first level, purely focusing on how many notes get played or how crazy X polyrhythm is while losing track of the bigger picture.
Also she Just needed several Tries to create a badass Groove that totally suited the Song which she never ever heard before. That is Just awesome! I absolutely envy her and will try anything in my Power to become a Drummer Like her!

Most pop drummers are the most versatile drummers out there. Pop being all encompassing, dipping and diving into different genres, I am never surprised they pull out blast beats, heavy swing feels, or bring out the brushes…
You can see her light up as she starts to get it and find the groove. She's totally into that last take. Very well done!

I’ve seen reaction videos like this and they’re usually kinda mean… but this was refreshing to watch. I’m not a drummer or into heavy metal but watching one person lift up and give props to another person and not be at all pretentious really made my day ❤😊

It can be really surprising to a lot of people, but the heavy metal community and its fans are actually incredibly nice and supportive. Even in mosh pits, you'll find that everyone will immediately stop and help if someone gets hurt. We just enjoy looking scary.
Come on, she was amazing by any standard. She just didn't play the same thing the original drummer did. That's not a bad thing when it comes to drums
I hesitated for a long time to watch this reaction, despite TH-cam constantly suggesting it, because that kind of treatment of her was what I expected. Wholeheartedly agree
The original drummer probably had months to refine his drums, learning, practicing and then recording. Of course it reflects his talent and dedication. But Domino being able to put something together after a few takes is masterful and her enthusiasm is infectious.
The "original drummer" was the late Joey Jordison - one of the best drummers out there. Domino did amazing all things considered and she was so humble about it.

I never got into the super heavy stuff. Although my band mates tried.
I can still appreciate the sheer talent, but sonically it was not my thing.
I love these videos that take musicians out of their normal comfort zones.
Domino did unbelievably well! She absolutely killed it and no doubt the metal community holds her in high regard ever since she threw down this amazing performance!
Exactly my thought! In the whole video, you could tell she was enjoying it, but also feeling nervous, as if she would mess it up... Yes, her take sounds different to what Joey was playing in the original, but that's the point. She looked like she put a lot of thought and effort into this, and it shows.
I don't get why she was so down about her interpretation! She injected her own personality into the song and that's the whole point of playing music in the first place! Love this.

The only thing I noticed, was that she was a little off-tempo during that final build up, but it's so inconsequential given how excellent her energy was.
Music isn't about interpretation and personality, it's about doing precisely what everyone else would be doing.

Dude I was so freaking floored by her interpretation on this. So many cool nuances I would have never expected. She's such a fluid, natural drummer. You can see that she feels the groove and can play literally any genre.
For never hearing it before, absolutely she killed it. Member the dude that did tool without hearing it? That blew my mind. These are professionals guys. They deserve all the respect. Like, all of it. So good.

As a 40 year old dude who has never sat behind a kit before I am absolutely loving it!
That woman deserves all the respect. It was actually kinda fun watch her figure the song out. Her idea about how the drums sounded was a great approximation of the actual song in the main part of the verses sounded like a take on Joey's style but the choruses were here own thing all together. And that build up at the end? A fantastic improvisation for a total departure from how the rest of the song sounded.
i wanna see her do this to 1000 other songs. shes so good and clearly loves what shes doing. keep this going please

She kept saying "way better" for the breakdown fill, but I thought her's was WAY cooler. The build up into the driving rhythm? MAGNÍFICO!
That was my thought too about the build up, it completely upped the intensity of the song.

Yeah, way too self-critical. After watching her work through a few things in takes 1 and 2, she charged into the final take with great intensity and a very fine effort; I thought she did great coming from a pop background and produced a nice rendition; she should be proud that her skill clearly shines through.

Her picking up the accents is a testament to not only how good of a drummer she is, but how well written the song is! Easy to listen to and understand the pacing and dynamics, very important in songwriting, you don't want your listeners to be confused (unless you do lmao)
Her interpretation of the fill with toms was so cool.
She showed as a professional pop drummer something that is flying over everybody's head -- By hearing something just a few times, that she never heard before, she picked up and nailed the vast majority of the feel with ease. Not only did she know what it *should* sound like without even hearing it based on her musical experience alone -- but she got pretty close. You could see afterwords she was flexing her musicianship trying to nail the original parts -- based on nothing but feel of the song, and what makes sense.
I feel there's a HUGE lesson going on here in the background that nobody even sees. This was fantastic musicianship from Domino, it really is kinda surprising how she can call on her roots as a drummer to play what just makes sense with the music... and be that close.

Joey would have been thoroughly impressed and would have loved to play with her I'm sure. Joey always enjoyed things like this, he would have been so happy to see just what Drumeo is doing too because they're helping people learn the drums. That man was straight up dying and still drumming his heart out. This woman did amazingly!
How she was totally lost in the beginning and then nailed it at the end. I couldn't asked for more.
Once you've got the verse and chorus rhythm figured out, that's 80% of the song. The only bits that will throw you then are bridges and breakdowns since they tend to be pretty unique, especially in punk/metal/hardcore.
She's awesome. Love her energy.

Sometimes it's good to have someone play it who doesn't know the usual techniques of a genre. But she clearly is an absolute pro. Hard to pull off something like that if you're not a master of what you do

Edit: Also I'm getting strong punk vibes from her style. Maybe it's because of the kit that she has. But her energy is very punk rock. She could def play in a rock, punk, or metal band.

SHE FUCKING KILLED IT. OH last take after chorus 2 slows a bit the guitar comes in and the the way she adds that build up shit so does she and the final screams from Corey its heavy and she's just smashing those drums. That was sick.
Agreed especially without ever hearing the song, she did awesome. And she absolutely shouldn't be hard on herself because not only is Joey one of the world's best drummers, his setup is INSANE. What she was able to do out of instinct with a mostly barebones setup is jaw dropping

Yeah, I don't see too many comments about those ghosts she was using and I also loved that touch she added. The tom use and that build up was also great. She created a great version.
She has a pretty limited kit. Especially considering what Joey was working with. After only a couple takes. She was abel to hang, in an impressive way. She's incredible!

I know what you mean. I normally listen to r'n'b, hip hop and symphony etc. but at least once a month I'll pull out my metal, punk and a whole heap of classic rock and put it on blast and just let it all go and rock out. All rock gives you a sense of freedom I feel other music doesn't. Well that's my personal thing anyway 😊

That is beyond impressive & I am so jealous/envious. I always wanted to play the drums since I was 10 (in 1978) & my Mom would never let me cause she said that's not an instrument girls played. I wish my Mom was around to see her absolutely kill this.

crazy how these videos have made me believe even more than I already did that music is the universal human language. she's like a linguist who's interpreting a dialect she's never heard before and the approximation is striking in how close it is to the original.
