That's the whole point of the series - to give drummers stuff they are not familiar with and give their own take on the songs, not to imitate the drum parts 1:1. I wish Joey was alive and hear this
She wasn't imitating because she didn't hear the drum track (It's not exactly clear in this video compared to newer ones) But at the end she hears it with drums at the end.
It's just nice to see her have fun. Wish she wouldn't have put herself down like this because she did really well and I think having fun making music is the most important thing anyway
I think my favorite part of this was her switching from a very very tight and straight play style you'd find in more pop, to a full arms loose heavy hitting groovy play style to fit better. She felt the emotion the song was supposed to provide and changed her playing based off it. Crushed it!
I think what people forget is that these drummers arent aiming to get perfectly what the song is, theyre doing what feels right to them as musicians (and she smashed it)

One more suggestion; for those of us who may also not know how the song sounds-leave out the drum track on the original for us as well. I second this. Never heard the song before and if what was stated is true, would be absolutely exciting to be on that same musical journey as each musician that steps up to the plate.

This is a perfect video showing the difference between a professional drummer and a youtube drummer. She played servicing the song perfectly and these youtube drummers all overplay and try to outshine the song.
I am sure Joey Jordison is looking down from metal heaven and smiling with aprooval. Getting this close to the original track with just her intuition and a very basic kit is simply breathtaking.
Joey was a world class, amazing drummer. She's sitting there with pretty much a basic kit and managed to do a fantastic job. You could tell she could really feel it, even if her spin on it was different. This was awesome.
This is so much cooler to me than top-tier drummers playing deeply rehearsed material: drummers learning in real time. This to me demonstrates so much more about the skills that make professional drummers who they are
A lot of musicians that play for aprox. Ten years do this, the thing is that certain musical skills are expected of certain musicians, like how drummers are expected to come up with something that fits quickly or how pianists are expected to be able to sight-read easily and intuitively
The thing is top-tier drummers are required to do this process for songs. Then they "rehearse deeply" the parts they came up with and perform them as best they can every night. It's easy as drummers to get carried away and play something on the top of their heads but for stability's sake in the performances they keep it grounded especially for complex music if not confusion can happen and you don't want to mess up a song for that. So you are right, but don't demerit top-tier drummers who do this process all the time behind the scenes
It really is incredible to see it in real time. There was another drummer on here, a black dude who figured out (IIRC) “Enter Sandman” and pretty much immediately nailed it. It was suuuuper cool to watch!
The fact that she got those lone kicks right during the chorus is a huge testament to both her ability and the overall quality of the song. It just DEMANDS those kicks and she gave them
Those kicks make the chorus, it’s that rare true harmony between drums and the rest of the band. Joey really nailed it on this whole song to be honest lol she did a great cover too!
For never having heard it before and being entirely different from what she normally plays, she did an excellent job. It's fantastic seeing people hear metal, listen with an open mind and allo themselves to enjoy the raw energy of it.
I think this series shows the best parts of being 'fluent in the language of music'. They never heard the song before, it is not their preferred genre - but then they played the breakdown section in a way I prefer over the actual recording, with that marching snare build-up. It is brilliant!
Yeah, that's why I "don't like" them apologizing before going into it. There is no need imo. Quite the opposite, people from somewhere else entirely just digging in and giving it a shot is awesome!
I haven't listened to Slipknot in forever. I had no idea who Domino was. I do not drum. I have no clue how this made it into my TH-cam feed. But this video made me incredibly happy to watch while sitting here working from home. Good work Drumeo! Great work Domino!

She surprised me how well she improvised then came up with a solid part even without a double kick pedal.
She's heard this before. She played the same goddamn fills. Give me a break .
Holy crap, even on her first pass, once she finds her groove she gets pretty damn close to the actual part!
Congratulations Domino!! You did amazing, so humble and so talented, beautiful !!
Joey is not an easy drummer to imitate. The assignment was almost unfairly difficult, but she kinda killed it.
As soon as I saw the title, I was like, "That's a really hard song to drum, PERIOD." So, yeah, they set her up to fail, but she killed it
Nah she killed it. Period. Not kinda. She's a pop drummer and played that song like that? Nah she murdered dawg
Well said.
Her smile while playing metal for the first time is wholesome af 😄
Mad props to a pop drummer for playing this and the producer/mixer for how clean the drums sound
Absolutely incredible the way she started to hear and figure it all out was awesome to watch/hear.
As a fan of Slipknot, this was extremely fun to watch. Improvisation was amazing and her joy of playing just made me feel good too 😂
I would like this but 666 likes so I shall say rock on my friend 🫡🤘🏽
I almost feel bad seeing the look on her face when she finally heard joey jordinson's part after having so much fun playing her own.
Crushed it!
Idk anything about drumming but I noticed it as well.
Couldn't have said it better 👍
The drummers are the glue in the band.
This series gave me more incite on how skilled the drummers have to be to meld all the instruments together
SHE WAS AMAZING! Great job, and thanks for the episode.
Super hard challenge for a pop drummer with a quarter of the metal drum kit. She did her best and delivered so much energy 👏
RIGHT???? Not a metal drummer and not a metal kit and she f'ing ROCKED
Modest when she speaks but exudes confidence in her skill when she plays. Shit gave me chills.
These are some of the best videos on youtube. Thanks!
I think what people forget is that these drummers arent aiming to get perfectly what the song is, theyre doing what feels right to them as musicians (and she smashed it)
Massive respect to her for being put on the spot like that and killing it. I would have crapped my pants.
Professional through and through. We were all blown away!
Lol you actually think this is the first time?! What bridge have you been hiding under?
@@kickerzx2 she’s a pro it’s not that hard to figure out a song from scratch after a few tries and if she’s been putting pop songs together for years and years wtf do u expect? Just Bc u can’t do it in 3 takes, doesn’t mean it’s impossible
@@sashaman1234 🤣🤣
Her bass drum game is no joke. All with one pedal! Respect.
for real man.
it was dope.
Love the tom work in the intro / post-chorus riff too.
She's a great drummer and her parts were great. I really like the natural approach she takes to drums, she is serving the song the music, and not drum students
She picked up on it so quickly and damn she hits hard for a pop drummer! Even with the single bass pedal she came super close. Wow. Awesome job!
She's waaay too humble. This has to be one of the greatest things I've ever seen. I love this concept.
yeah my first time and I totally dig the concept. Definintely a well thought out plan.....our 7-8 drinks in and..."Hey!!!! Why don't you listen to a song you've never heard before.......and no drums!!!!!!....................and then you guess what you think it is and then we watch you hearing the way the drums are........."
She's crazy good ^^
Watch Larnell hears Enter Sandman for the first time on this channel. Another good one!
her humbleness is the reason she's so good in the first place. She kept improving
She adapted and crushed this. Jordison is smiling down on this interpretation 🖤
Nice comment EVER!
@@samirtorres2180 this really is a comment of all time.
🖤
when she said "it's morbin time" i knew this was A comment
What you mean!? He’s looking down with his jaw on the clouds!
What a humble and capable female drummer. She has such a great personality and for just hearing the song for the first time without the drums she did a great job. 👏 👍
I've watched a bunch of these videos and she gets closer than anyone I've seen. She has a very natural sense for rhythm and song composition that's amazing.
As a fan of the original, I love the way she transitions from "I have no clue what I'm doing here" to "Let's f*cking goooooo!" I love her rendition of the drum track.
I saw these definite physical expressions on her face, in chronological order:
"Aw crap this isn't it, the fans are gonna be pissed"
"I am glad I wore a hair tie today"
"OK, girl, just go. Go!!!"
"Aw **** the sweat is burning my eyes. Doesn't matter, USE IT! DRUM! DRUUUMMMMMMMM!!!"
Joey will be proud. She was too close to the original with a Drumless track that is almost scary. And the fact that she had just one pedal, and the energy she put on was amazing.
... would have been. 😢
Dude what are you talking about? "too close"
You'd watch a 5 year old paint picasso and be impressed.
Yeah man damn close my fav one in series
I've seen some 5 year olds paint more aesthetic looking paintings. Picasso's work was incredibly simple. Go look at his flowers and vases. Looked like something I did in first grade@@Drumzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Просто она по фану на педальке без кардана)
really cool to see her just sink into it and find a groove, loved her interpretation and her reaction to the original
As she continued to gain her groove, she did really well. Love to see the progression!
She's a little monster. Shy and nervous, then she puts her game face on and damn she nails it.
+1
i was pleasantly surprised at her natural accuracy. Im not sure if id have the same instincts she had if i had never heard this song. and thats why shes the pro!
She hits the drums HARD.
DRUMEO, PLEASE KEEP DOING THESE. THEY ARE FANTASTIC! And thanks for taking our advice and letting them listen to the actual song at the end. One more suggestion; for those of us who may also not know how the song sounds-leave out the drum track on the original for us as well. Will be fun to hear it with the performer at the end of the video.
I second this. Never heard the song before and if what was stated is true, would be absolutely exciting to be on that same musical journey as each musician that steps up to the plate.
Yeah I second this
I shall third this
I fourth it. If you can say that :))
I'll fifth it 🙋♂️
She really ate that. It's so impressive how she added little fills that made sense if you've never heard it before. This is probably my favorite Drumeo video so far
If the pop gigs ever dry up, I think she'd be welcome in the rock and metal world. Killer performance!
This is the best genre of drumeo videos. Keep them coming!
This is almost an insult to all the great drum lessons they did over the years :D But I agree that these videos here are very entertaining!
@@geophil1699 by far their most entertaining segments. Most likely to garner the most views, too!
Yap...i agree🤘🤘🤘
@@geophil1699 I have zero interest in learning how to play any instrument and think these videos are amazing. I watch a decent amount of reaction videos to music that I like and I'm sure these videos are put together to tick all the right boxes to garner views from casuals like me.
@@Siphus this comment 🤓
Dude, her slide technique is SO clean. She's making that single bass pedal WORK.
It's always insane seeing people essentially playing what I would need sixteen pedals for with just one.
And dont forget the extra pairs of arms bro.. i can bearly tune my guitar with the tuner...
Without the camera I couldn´t tell she was playing single pedal.
Same with Lindsay Raye Ward. Damn, her technique and footwork on the pedal is impeccable! I've only seen her playing a double pedal once.
It was interesting how she nailed the kick right off the bat and then just started rolling with it. I really enjoy these.
I perso find it more interesting and fun to have the "drumless" experience first and go through the discovery with the invited drummer, rather than have the original. And then be re-discovering the original, it's more fun I find
I really want someone to take her by the shoulders and say "Dom, your version was legitimately F#*KING AMAZING "
No shit, I’d love to see Corey’s reaction. He loves this kinda shit.
Big time! Unbelievable.
Totally agree; she was awesome and the way she put herself down afterwards was kind of heartbreaking. I sure hope someone made sure to tell her she did more than great and created something unique and filled with energy! She is such a talent!
Don't worry, Domino, Slipknot fans approve of this! This is awesome.
Agreed great approach to our beloved no1 rip big J
Absof*ckinglutely! I was massively impressed with her adaptation!
This is a perfect video showing the difference between a professional drummer and a youtube drummer. She played servicing the song perfectly and these youtube drummers all overplay and try to outshine the song.
They don't care
the drum roll on that bridge (7:52 - 8:19) gave me chills
Wow her use of snares ar the one point threw a whole new twist on this song! Give her a mask and put her on stage she killed it!
I am sure Joey Jordison is looking down from metal heaven and smiling with aprooval.
Getting this close to the original track with just her intuition and a very basic kit is simply breathtaking.
down from hell actually
@@kerri_sharkSaid like a true maggot.
I'm glad this comment is recent because I was thinking something similar. There's no way Joey wouldn't watch this and be filled with joy.
It would be looking up from hell
Was going to say the same lol. Joey must be proud of her!🎉
Joey was a world class, amazing drummer. She's sitting there with pretty much a basic kit and managed to do a fantastic job. You could tell she could really feel it, even if her spin on it was different. This was awesome.
You could see the exact moment she started to feel it and just laid into it with confidence.
Felt it. You did great!
i think she had a little bit too much fun, not angry enough.
thats far from a basic kit dude
Garbage music doesn't require an enormous amount of talent to replicate. Ask cover bands that handle The Beatles or Third Eye Blind
Damn her final take is SOOOOOOO GOOD. Amazing artist, true craftsmen.
I love this channel so much, and this is the reason why!!!! She was BRILLIANT
She's a beast.
Mark of a true drummer
Domino!! You seriously rocked my socks off with this video! Nicely done! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
@@michaelnugent9758 Larnell Lewis. Insanely good.
@@cmartin973 Yes! Thank you!
The fact that she got those lone kicks right during the chorus is a huge testament to both her ability and the overall quality of the song. It just DEMANDS those kicks and she gave them
And her physical fitness tbh... Drums are a workout. Especially with how she's rocking out.
Those kicks make the chorus, it’s that rare true harmony between drums and the rest of the band. Joey really nailed it on this whole song to be honest lol she did a great cover too!
This was mind blowing! 🤯 she is so humble! Awesome work! 🎉
She really shows how you don't need a huge kit to make a song feel really full. She brings home the less is more thing. Love it, serious skills.
WHAT DID I JUST HEAR? She did it absolute justice. I am not a musician but this is one of my favorite songs of all time. Jaw on the floor!
Jay would love that roll section I think.
Not sure if I can believe that the first go was stumbly and the second go was so damn good, but... overall she did a great job.
Yeah, that's why I "don't like" them apologizing before going into it. There is no need imo. Quite the opposite, people from somewhere else entirely just digging in and giving it a shot is awesome!
Not to mention a big portion of slipknot percussion is clown beating a trash can with a baseball bat
@@christiangermanowski4859 That would be quite a drumeo session, indeed! x'D
The bridge breakdown on the snare keeps me coming back to this video!
Sooooo honest, and a great performance! You did awesome! And she did this with half of there regular set!!
I haven't listened to Slipknot in forever. I had no idea who Domino was. I do not drum. I have no clue how this made it into my TH-cam feed. But this video made me incredibly happy to watch while sitting here working from home. Good work Drumeo! Great work Domino!
i HIGHLY recommend the Larnell Lewis is playing Metallica one to ya. He did indeed listen to the drums but attempts it to play in one take, after one time listening. - its awesome.
'Working from home' eh
I am also thankful to the algorithm for recommending this! I love the idea and hope they do more!
The only other one I can find where the drummer did not hear the drums before was the Tool track.
Incredible tbh
fucking same 🤘🤘🤘
