If I am correct, I believe Valium is a name for a sedative drug. That's why Prince Valium was yawning all the time.
You are correct.
And why he was described as a pill.
"To sleep with Prince Valium", means to take a Valium pill before sleeping.
Also nicknamed "Mother's Little Helper" by The Rolling Stones, in their song of the same name.
Prince Valium could also be in relation to and old comic strip Prince Valiant
14:39 - When he says "Let's take a 5 minute break" it is literally 5 minutes before you see them on screen again.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Prince Lonestar was the president in the movie "Independence Day"
The merchandising joke came about because George Lucas had two rules in order for him to give permission for Spaceballs to be made. 1. No merchandise and 2. the hero couldn't look like Han Solo (this is why Lone Star looks like Indiana Jones instead). Also at the end, the guy that says not again is John Hurt who had the same thing happen in Alien.
Rick Moranis is a National treasure. I will never blame him for leaving the industry for his family. He gave us so much as kids and to new generations with his unique comedy.
Strange Brew alone is an opus.
*INTERNATIONAL treasure!
@@RandomNonsense1985 I stand happily corrected! Absolutely
"You idiots! You've captured their stunt doubles!"
My favorite joke of the movie. Stephen Tobolowsky is so pompous up to the reveal and his gasp of shock is perfect. A one scene wonder.
He also played Ned in Groundhog Day.
If you watch the jump through the door, you can see that they really ARE the stunt doubles.😂
@@joemasters2270"It's a doooozy!"😂
That's my favorite joke of the movie too. That and when Lone Star and Dark Helmet are dueling and knock the sound guy off the camera crane! That's pure Mel Brooks right there! 😂😂😂😂
@@joemasters2270Ned? Ned Ryerson?
The actress in the Dot Matrix costume was Lorene Yarnell. She and then husband, Robert Shields were a mine duo known as Shields and Yarnell. She passed away in 2010. Dot's vice was Joan Rivers.
"- evil will always win because good is dumb!" dark helmet. 🤟
Rick moranis (dark helmet) in Ghostbusters was the keymaster. And kept locking himself out of his apartment
39:45.... The guy with the little alien coming out of his chest is John Hurt, the same actor who played Kane in ALIEN. That's why he said "Oh, no!! Not again!!!", because he had the alien burst out of his chest in that movie. 😂😂😂😂
Lone Star is played by Bill Pullman the president in Independence Day, he was in the live action Casper movie, and in the The Equalizer 1 & 2. Actor Jeff Daniels was in Dumb and Dumber
Rick Moranis, who portrayed the character of Dark Helmet is a lead in the film "Little Shop of Horrors" (1986). It's a musical comedy you may enjoy.
Also in ghostbusters and honey i shrunk the kids movies
The movie Strange Brew was one of Rick's first movies.
13:45 There's a cultural reference I think you may be missing. The U.S. fast-food fried-chicken restaurant called Kentucky Fried Chicken (or just K.F.C.) uses an older southern gentleman as its marketing mascot. His name is Colonel Sanders, so that's why the line "What's the matter Colonel Sanders? Chicken???" is particularly pointed.
Colonel Sanders isn’t just the mascot of KFC. He literally is the founder of the restaurant and inventor Of the herbs and spices recipe As well as the recipes used for all of the food they sell there. Or at least the original version they might have updated certain recipes since then.
There is only one man who would dare give me the raspberry. Lone Star!
Nobody seems to question the bear in the escape pod.
The Marlene, Charlene, "chew your gum" joke was in reference to popular commercials at that time, advertising Doublemint chewing gum. They were meant to represent the Doublemint twins.
The actresses ACTUALLY WERE the Doublemint Twins at the time.
Love this movie Emma. John Candy playing "Barf" still cracks me up 🤣
They had to do his makeup in a way that his face was still recognizable.
Then the pack he had to wear was so heavy but - he's a trooper!
Notice his ears and tail moves a lot?
In the desert scene, the score changes to something very close to the score of David Lean's film *Lawrence of Arabia.* And when the heroes are walking down the hall in Yogurt's lair, it is a call-back to the scene in *The Wizard of Oz* where Dorothy and her companions are going to meet Oz.
A Druish princess. 😂
Funny, she doesn't look Druish 🤔
There is one reference that most people are too young to notice. After the alien burst out of John Hurt's chest the alien struts down the counter sing " Hello, My Baby". This refers to a Warner Brothers cartoon "One Frogy Evening". He's acting like Michigan J. Frog.
I love Michigan J. Frog!!! 😂😂😂😂❤️
The robot was voiced by Joan Rivers. She was a comedian & talk show host. That was her actual voice.
Fun fact: the guy who screams "we ain't found shit" is Tim Russ who went on to play Tuvok on Star Trek Voyager.
Emma, you were totally right that it was parodying Wizard of Oz. Did I understand you correctly that you have never seen it? If true, please watch it. You won't believe it is from 1939.
Agreed. Please watch Wizard of Oz.
Yes! Please watch it, I know you will love it!
THE WIZARD OF OZ is a must-see movie, Emma! ✌️
Yes rick morranis was the neighbor in Ghostbusters
Yes, the Keymaster (who always locked himself out). Dana Barrett was the Gatekeeper.
Two other movies with Rick Moranis would be "Little Shop of Horrors" and "Honey, I shrunk the Kids".
He’s making a direct sequel to “Honey I Shrunk the Kids” called “Shrunk” with Josh Gad playing his son.
@bidwell13 is he playing nick or Adam?
You sure had fun with this one! The golden droid, Dot Matrix (named after the printers of the time) was voiced by famous comedian Joan Rivers. Her raspy voice was as unique as her no-holds-barred humor. The person in the costume was Lorene Yarnell, a dancer and comedian of the time. The scene with the monkeys was a play on 1968's Planet of the Apes. This is a great movie to just get lost in and have a few laughs.
One of my all-time favorite Mel Brooks films! Miss Emma, you would really love the story behind Rick Moranis, who played "Dark Helmet". Beautifully fun reaction! ❤❤
The president and Yogurt is Mel Brooks! George Lucas told Mel Brooks he couldn't dress Lone Star like Luke Skywalker, so he dressed him like Indiana Jones. He also told him no merchandising. That's the reason for the merchandising gag. I guess you've never seen the original Planet Of The Apes. If you did you would have gotten the joke toward the end.
At the end they are parodying "Planet of the Apes" when the Statue of Liberty was revealed, sorry, can't give out any spoilers.
in case you were curious tesla added multiple speed modes to their car based of the jokes in this movie... first is chill, second is standard, third is ludacris and in their high end model S they have plaid
Pretty sure they had Ridiculous and Ludicrous at one point.
@@ragabashmoon1551 redekeres
Dot matrix’s voice e. : it’s the late Joan Rivers, a popular stand-up comedian from the time. That was her usual, very distinctive voice. She later did those Hollywood ‘red carpet’ fashion reviews with her daughter. Barf is the late John Candy, who was in all kinds of comedies. You might remember his small part in Blues Bros. You also might remember Bill Pullman as the president in Independence Day, and also in the must-see Lake Placid, which you would like… and stuff like While You Were Sleeping. And as he often does, Mel Brooks had several parts. We saw those spaceship speed settings more recently in Teslas - with their ludicrous speed setting and their plaid model.
10:16 i love it when the King's crown shakes downwards when he goes _"...a million?!"_ Emma! Love this classic old school comedy. 🤣🙃
13:48 'What's the matter Colonel Sanders, Chicken?'
Colonel Sanders is the man in the 'Kentucky fried Chicken' Logo.
A Dot Matrix was a type of printer before ink-jet became the standard.
"Beaming" was how they quickly moved across distance in Star Trek, and Chief Engineer Montgomery "Scotty" Scott was typically the one operating the transporter controls. Thus the parody of "Snotty" beaming her and them beaming over such short distances.
Dark Helmet is played by Rick Moranis from both original Ghostbusters films, he was also the lead actor in the horror/musical film Little Shop of Horrors, he was also in many children movies like the trilogy Honey I Shrunk the Kids, Honey I Blew Up the kid, and Honey We Shrunk Ourselves. He was also Barney Rubble in the 94 The Flintstones live action movie.
John Candy's costume was opersted by three people. Candy himself, one stagehand for the esrs, and one for the tail. This was because Jabba's puppet required three operator.
And when Barf tells tge diner waitress his tail has a mind of its own, that's the literal truth.
Barf is played by John Candy, who starred in a lot of comedies. Unfortunately, he was a very unhealthy person. He struggled with his weight and tended to binge eat. He was also a very heavy smoker and drinker and had a drug problem. It took a toll on him and he died of at heart attack in 1994 at age 43.
Comb the desert!
WE AIN'T FOUND SHIrT.
'We ain't found shit! --Tuvok.
Prince Valium was a double double entendre. Valium is a tranquilizer, hence the constant yawning.
But also, there was a comic series, and a movie about a Nordic prince named... "Prince Valiant". So it's also a play on that.
Emma, pizza the hut with pepperoni..my favorite 🤭
It's a name joke & a very clever one. Pizzahut + Jabba the Hutt = Pizza the Hut 😜😂
It said Perri-AIR, it's crystal air in a can 😂😜
You're thinking of Jeff Daniels, this is Bill Pullman.
Though they both have the same "regular guy" persona, even Family Guy made a joke about it.
Hi The actor who plays Dark Helmet, Rick Moranis is 5' 6" tall
Well he's 5 foot tall after stopping from ludicrous speed.....
21:11 "Now you're looking like the company of The Wizard of Oz." YES!!! Not everyone notices that! Princess = Dorthy, Man/Dog = Lion, Robot = Tin Man, and Lonestar = Scarecrow! 😁👍
The actor who had the Alien come out of his chest was the same actor from Alien that's why he said "not again".
Only would have been more epic if they had been able to get all the original actors together.
Prince Valium is a pill.
A jagged little one?
I need a box full of the bumper stickers that is on the Winnebago.
9:06 the double mint twins"
One of my favorite spoofs. You should watch / react to The Wizard of Oz, you'll like it.
Yes! I wonder if Emma knows it's a musical?
@@LordVolkov No Spoilers
yes you got it, the actor playing Dark Helmet is also the weird neighbour in Ghostbusters, and also played in Honey, I shrunk the kids, and surely more, I'm going by memory only.
The voice of the driod is Joan Rivers.
Dot was voiced by stand-up comedienne Joan Rivers. The hoarse / throaty voice was how she normally talked. She was a very funny lady if you want to look up her stand-up comedy.
Pizza the Hutt was a reference to a food franchise here called Pizza Hut.
Schwartz means black.
The end bit was a reference to Planet of the Apes (1968).
I heard a rumor that Mel Brooks is making Spaceballs 2... Even though Brooks is in his 90s, DOT and Barf's actors have passed away.
Oh, thank you!!! I have to check it out 😉😁✨
18:05 (Elsa singing) The cold never bothered me anyways.
This movie cam e out 30 years ago today. I hear today that Mel Brooks said he is working on Spaceballs 2.
14:00 "...how tall this man, the actor? 150?" Nope, he's 167 cm (5'6")! But he often seems short in movies because they tend to pair him with taller actors and actresses -- like George Wyner here as Colonel Sanders, who's 185 cm (6'1"), or Sigourney Weaver in Ghostbusters, who's 183 cm (6'0").
Few people today understand Lone Star's comment about being found in a convent in the Ford galaxy.
One of the Ford Motor Company's cars at the time was the Ford Galaxy. I remember this because my dad used to own one.
Also a joke that the actor who played Han Solo and Indiana Jones was Harrison Ford
And there were a lot of babies "found" in the backseat of a Ford Galaxy.
I've watched this film many times, yet one of your remarks alerted me to something I'd never noticed before: "They're burning the matched luggage" (to make a campfire to keep warm at night on Tatooine.) Nice!!
••••
I think you'd like 'The Wizard of Oz' (1939). I also think you'd very much like 'Galaxy Quest' (1999). That latter film went beyond the normal bounds of a 'spoof film' to be a sort of spoof AND love-letter to its source material at the same time. (This doesn't mean that 'Spaceballs' was mean-spirited in its spoofing of Star Wars - far from it! ...merely pointing out that 'Galaxy Quest' is also broader in scope -- focusing not only on the 'Trek' universe but also on the real-life dynamic of the lives of the actors and fans, in a way that 'Spaceballs' did not.)
Spielberg wouldn't let Brooks make any merchandise so he put in the merchandising scene.
Neither Barf nor Lonestar were Jim Carry's partner in Dumb and Dumber. The person you're thinking of was played by Jeff Daniels (a good movie to see him in is Fly Away Home which I highly recommend) and he was Keanu's partner in Speed. Barf was played by John Candy and Lonestar was played by Bill Pullman. Also, there's a joke a lot of people miss when Lonestar was talking about where he was found... Ford made a model of car called a Galaxy. Planet of monkeys lol... I'm guessing you've never seen the Planet of the Apes movies lol. Great video :-)
My favorite gag was Helmet screaming at the guys combing the desert in the distance, but then uses the megaphone to talk to Sandurz right next to him.
10:30 You're thinking of Jeff Daniels, that actor's name is Bill Pullman 😁
39:16 The Millennium Falcon
23:29 Tim Russ aka Tuvok from Star Trek Voyager
John Candy ( aka Barf ) can be seen in movies like The Great Outdoors opposite Dan Ackroyd, Uncle Buck, National Lampoons Vacation, Stripes, Summer Rental and Planes, Trains And Automobiles playing opposite of Steve Martin. He has a long list of other movies. R.I.P. John Candy
6:36 A parody of Jabba the Hutt and the US pizza chain, Pizza Hut. Pizza the Hutt.
The costume was very, very hot, and the acgor got minor, it painful, burns, but made it through the one and only take.
"What's the matter Colonel Sanders, chickdn?" Was a reference to the US fried chicken chain, KFC. Originally Kenticky Fried Chicken, the chain was founded by Harlan Sanders, in Kentucky, oddly enough, The chain grew fast, despite the menu only being various forms of chicken and a half dozen or so types of side dish. Kentucky has a tradition of bestowing the title of "Kentucky Colonel" on citizens of the state who are very successful, so Colonel Harlan Sanders, who retired from operating the chain and sold it, became the spokesman and symbol of the chain for many years afterward.
10:46 That's how the late Joan Rivers always sounded when she talked; she had that thick Brooklyn accent. 🤭
Prince Valium later will be known as Neil Tanner, brother of Willie Francis Tanner :)
Bill Pullman was in the Rom-Coms Sleepless in Seattle and While you were Sleeping.
Loved all the tips of the hat to so many little bits taken from movies cartoons and TV shows. Great film.
39:16 a little Easteregg you can see the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars outside of the Galaxy griil
Mel’s genius idea lord helmet’s long&big space ship transformed into Mega Maid with her vacuum able to suck & blow 10,000 years fresh air from planet Druidia.😊
They have started production of Spaceballs 2. I do hope they call it: Spaceballs 2: The search for more money.
Just FYI earlier today (19/6/2024) it was announced that Mel Brooks and Josh Gad are working together on Spaceballs 2.
Been hearing that for years
Mel has been trying for over a decade to get a sequel going. Last I heard it was going to be called “Spaceballs 3: The Search for Spaceballs 2”.
I just heard that on the Enterainment News today. They have the casr picked out already .
Yeah.....no. They've been saying that since the late 80s. Nothing ever comes of it. Half the cast is dead or retired and parodies have been tanking on release for over a decade now
This is in my top 5 all time Favorite movies and to watch a lot of movies
07:46, just now I read the document on the table as The Script instead of Top Secret 🤣😂
👍👍✨✨
Hahaha… this was a classic. Don’t know if you have seen any other Mel Brooks movies, but they are all pretty hilarious. Funny reaction :) I really adore the facial expressions and accent! Well done :)
I'll check it out!
@@EmmaReactions History of the world is one of my favorites by him. If you like dry, cheesy humor then you’ll like it :)
my day is now happy after your reaction
Great!!! I am happy to hear that 😘
Bill Pullman was Lonestar Jeff Daniels was in Dumb and Dumber.
The beautiful and charming Emma returns!
In case you didn’t know the woman who did the voice for the gold robot is Joan Rivers who’s passed away now
This film came before Melrose Place.
One of my favorite Mel Brooks movies next to Robin Hood: Men in Tights.
10:25 "Oh, the actor . . . from Dumb and Dumber, the partner of Jim Carrey. Oh my God, he's so young here!" Not quite right, although there _is_ a bit of a resemblance between the two. You're thinking of Jeff Daniels (who was also the Director of NASA in The Martian), but this is Bill Pullman (who was also the President of the United States in Independence Day).
10:31 no the actor who plays Lone Star is Bill Pullman, who plays the President in Independence Day.
Lost Mog!!! Reward: Amillion space bucks!!!
I love this movie, Emma!! I'm so glad you're watching it! Mel Brooks is the king of absurdist humor! His characters constantly talk to the audience. You also need to see YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, if you haven't already. I can't remember if you reacted to that one. You are so beautiful, Emma! Love to you and your family! ✌️❤️
George Lucas gave permission for the film as long as they didn't sell any merchandise. So Mel Brooks put merchandise all throughout the movie, instead.
Another awesome Mel Brooks movie is Dracula Dead and lovin It, awesome request 😀
Emma
It is confirmed that long awaited sequel to Spaceballs is in development. Josh Gad aka Olaf from Frozen is part of the process with legendary comic director and actor, Mel Brooks are producing the sequel. I believe that Josh will have a role in the sequel. I know John Candy is not available as he died back in 1994. I wondered if Bill Pullman (Lonestar) and Daphne (Princess) return in their roles from the original. Oh, I forgotten about Joan Rivers aka Dot. She died back in 2014. Rick Moranis aka Dark Helmet? Maybe?
I just looked it up and it said Rick Moranis is 5’6” tall
Hello Emma, great to see you reacting to this fun, silly parody by Mel Brooks!😊👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Emma, I know you have a crush on "Pizza the Hut", but I think he is taken.🍕🍕🍕🍕😆 Good guess on Lonestar being a prince.👍🏻 The voice of the robo Dot Matrix is comedian Joan Rivers, and the person inside is Lorene Yarnell. She was half of the mime team of "Shields & Yarnell". The seen near the end is a parody of the original "Planet of the Apes" (1968) film. Films with not much CGI are really in right now. Nope, there was no sequel to this one, Emma.😉 Great reactions to this funny spoof film, Emma!!!!🎬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great movie. Other great Mel Brooks spoof movies are : Robin Hood Men in tights (which spoof Kevin Costner Robin Hood 1990 that you see) and High Anxiety which is a spoof on classic Alfred Hitchcock movies like Psycho or The Birds which you obviously have to see before seeing it
Colonel Sanders from KFC
Sergeant Rico is a reference to “Starship Troopers” probably the book than the movies. The book is so much better than the movie, especially since neither the producer nor the director even read it. They skimmed the first chapter only.
I seen where they are supposed to be working on Spaceballs 2.
Bill Pullman (Lonestar) is not Jeff Daniels from Dumb and Dumber. Also not sure what you were saying about Austin Powers since the first movie wasn't made until 12 years after the movie came out. The last parody joke was of the 1968 film Planet of the Apes.
Epic Mel Brooks
Now watch the ultimate fan tribute film "Fanboys". You'll love it
Emma Awesome Video Today!!🔥🐐🐐💎

A classic!
We all have our own personal thoughts on who is the GOAT. For myself, Mel Brooks is the fuh-king goat!
As evidenced by the talent of his son, who wrote World War Z.
yes you are the first!
