    8:30 That failure if I understand it correctly happens if you leave the car in freezing temperatures (well below 0C) and you do not heat the car. To put it simply - you leave your car outside over night. In that case some active element can freeze while closed and you will not be able to open it and heat the cabin. Probably some moisture is also needed.

    Great review. I think we have the same opinion on Tesla’s. If the could fix the super hard suspension, have an extendable seat base, add a proper rain sensor for the auto wipers, add adaptive Matrix Headlights and a HUD it would be a fantastic car. I’m really hoping at least the suspension gets fixed for the Berlin Model Y as I won’t order one until it is.

      I think other makers will bring much more choice and charm to the EV markets..

      GigaBerlin Model Y will right away from day 1 have MUCH more weight capacity, and no doubt when they start making it with the new "structural battery pack" aka the 4680, it's going to be stiffer, lighter, faster, more range, and corner better (more of the battery weight is centered), and because it will be lighter, hopefully Tesla will tune the suspension to be more compliant. And of course other iterative improvements. For sure the 2023 Model Y out of Germany will be a considerable improvement!!

    Thomas, you know there have been many videos showing that the efficiency reported on Tesla screen is only for motors not taking other power usage into account like HVAC or computers etc. Seems like the only way to be sure the usage is to charge it to a certain percentage drive it for a long distance and then charge it again to that same percentage and figure how many kWh were delivered and adjust for charging losses like 7-8%.

    I drive a standard long range (not Performance) Model 3 on terrible Boston roads and find the suspension stiff but always reassuring, handling as well as and less harsh than my Porsche 911 4 S. I agree with you on several major faults: the horrible negligence in not providing a good head up display; the dangerous emergency false stops of the active cruise control; and the somewhat useless side camera views out of the normal line of sight for lane changing, especially when most vehicles today provide a very simple side view mirror blind spot warning light. Also I find the build and quality of my Model 3 to be excellent and I have owned Mercedes or BMWs in my family my whole lifetime. Vielen dank’ fuer alles .

      No surprise that the suspension of a Porsche 911 is even stiffer.. that one's a proper sports car, while the Tesla is marketed as a comfort sedan. The difference between those two should be significant.

      The model 3 suspension isn't as bad as the one in the model y. The y needs other springs or a kw components plus a determination of the axis.

      in the silicon valley software developer world there's a lot of distrust, especially after that crash on US101. the freeway more teslas probably use than any other, and still it mistook a lane separator for an empty lane and accelerated into it. if's not even like it was that complex a junction by global standards

    • @peteramey9385
      @peteramey9385 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SteveLoughran 2 things. 1. Tesla FSD is in Beta and needs to be supervised by the driver at all times, who should take over if necessary. And if it was autopilot its the same situation, the driver is in control of the car. The driver should have taken over control of the car. 2. There have been no proven cases of a Tesla being at fault by the NTSA.

    I just had a test drive with Standard and Performance models back to back yesterday and it was surprising that Performance model was slightly more comfortable than standard model even though it has 21'' wheels as staff told me that the latter one using more advanced suspension system. Yet to try smallest wheels but as being a BMW driver currently , i did not find the ride comfort really that bad even much better than my car. I liked the sporty driving without losing comfort and the cabin noise was also OK on highway which is not that bad like commented on internet. Definitely considering for my next company car.

    Thank you for this in depth review. I concur with the dash design and have never liked the simple approach. I want to see what the car is doing with a HUD or direct dash. I'm a bit disappointed in the ride quality as demonstrated. I had hoped to buy one of these next year but unless there are design changes then I don't see a reason to sell what I have to jump into an EV. My ICE cars are not new but since I work overseas a lot their mileage is very low. Will hold back and see what happens. Thanks again.

    Model Y has a heat pump for heating. Its efficiency drops with temperature. Moreover, the evaporator coil on the heat pump will freeze at negative temperatures, requiring additional energy for defrosting. Being just a few degrees below or a few degrees above 0 makes a very big difference for heat pump efficiency.

  • @horvathszzsolt

    I don't think the displayed range is show room related. The one you see in the energy consumption is a personalized figure based on your driving style. It varies person by person, day by day depending on weather conditions. They display a generic EPA or internally tested range to have a consistent reference point for people. Once you drive regularly you know exactly how to get that range (if no other factor decreases it like weather) and you know if you switch to sportier driving style you'll see higher consumption.

    I own a Model Y and live in Iceland. It is a good car but absolutely not a car designed for Winter climates. For example, the automatic wipers cannot detect dirt being sprayed by traffic, the interval or sensitivity of the automatic wipers cannot be adjusted so often they won’t start when needed or slow down when wiping a dry windshield. The camera does not detect poor visibility and offer fog lights. The rear camera is blocked by dirt very easily. When snow or dirt blocks the cameras the screen is constantly complaining. Range in sub zero temperatures can be below 300km. The updated UI is much much more difficult to use for driving. Driving controls are buried in menus, that blind spot camera is too low on the screen to be useful, my right hand blocks it

    Hi Tomas, did you notice a sensible difference in terms of comfort with the 19" wheels? I had a test drive with the 20" and it was effectively a little stiff, but I love them, the size is perfect compared to the side of the car. I'm only afraid I will miss the comfort I have with the suspension on my C5 Aircross, do you think it's really worthy going for the 19"? Thanks a lot!

    Great review. One thing I also noticed during the test drive was very bad rear visibility besides not so good suspension. I love the fact that you do a fair review without falling into the trap that many "fan boys" fall into - that is to just 'love' the Tesla because that's the cool thing to do. You are objective and are not afraid to speak your honest opinion which is unfortunately rare.

    It's worth noting that your SoC loss is for maintaining 22°C. If you lowered it to say 18, there's a good chance you could get a second day. In either case though, for sure pretty efficient.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Even with 22 C, 1,5 % loss per hour means you could leave it like this for 53 hours until it stops theoretically :) (going 100 % to 20 %)

    Hi Thomas,
    As usual, the best reviews are coming from you and the Autogefuhl team.
    During this review, I was wondering, what car does Thomas drive (own) day to day?
    If it's not an electric one, would you switch to one now?
    I am in a bit of a dilemma, want to change my car, but I'm not sure what the future will bring. I'm talking about restrictions to Petrol and Diesel cars inside the cities, and so on.
    I'm currently driving an F30 diesel car, which I love. I like BMWs a lot, especially the way they drive, but I'm really not sure where to go for my next one.
