'Handheld Companion' is a heaven send for PC games that don't have controller support AND certain emulation games that require GYRO controlers like some PS3 Game via emulation as it will emulate the PS4 controller. Also STRONGLY recommend 'Handheld Control panel' as the first version has just come out last month and goes well with 'Handheld Companion' - it even make referencess to HC as a suggested software - HCP basically is an expanded control systems menu for handheld gaming PCs - TDP, volune, lighting, fan controls, power profiles etc...usable via controller and works with many handheld gaming PC devices - Steam Deck, Aya Neo, OneNet OXP 2, Asus ROG ally. Also STRONGLY recommend 'Playnite' Front end as HCP and HC reference 'Playnite' (HCP can also sync with Playnite) as a great library organizer and front end and works well with HC and HCP. HC, HCP and Playnite are three essential software for Handheld gaming PCs that all work well together.
On my steamdeck i have windows 11 spiderman install and where controller layout shows me playstation controller when it shouldnt i cant play spiderman and the controllers wont respond

I’ve been using steam deck tools. But the overlays don’t work at all. They won’t run. I downloaded handheld companion but I can’t open it. I can double click it all I want and it never opens. 😔

Hey I need some help, in warzone 2 my left joystick isn’t doing anything and I don’t know why bc I’ve changed settings multiple times due to previous controller issues. Idk how to fix it at this point.
Does PS Plus even work anymore with Dual Shock emulators? The official PS Remote Play app no longer works after the last update. Probably due to Sony releasing their own handheld. They wanted to eliminate any handheld competition. Everyone I know has switched to using Chiaki. I will look into it
Make sure that Desktop Layout is toggled off while in-game. Otherwise, it will see the controller as a mouse. I set up a hotkey to toggle desktop layout on and off.
@@OVERKILLGAMING786 - Thanks! I did that, and now I can get Fortnite to launch by recognizing Xbox Controller Settings. My new problem now is that when I load into a game, everything works fine, I can run, shoot, build - However, like 5 seconds before the game starts, Fortnite kicks me out of the match with an Error: "You were removed from the match due to internet lag, your IP or machine, VPN usage, or for cheating. We recommend not utilizing VPN or proxy services while attempting to play Fortnite ." What can I do to fix this? The weird thing is that if I just use regular mouse and keyboard everything works perfectly fine and can play multiple matches. It's just with HC that I run into the issue.
How did you bind the start menu? I tried it with costum hot keys but I can't even select something. I can only choose which button activates it but not what I want to activate with it. Maybe I'm dumb idk 😅
You will need a keyboard connected. Its been a while but if I remember correctly, go to hotkeys. Select the button you want to use to trigger it, and then where it allows you to select the output press the windows key. That should do it for you
I downloaded Handheld Companion on my ROG ALLY and for some reason doesn't show the start service options on the bottom left. Did something not happen right or have to turn on?
For some reason the virtual keyboard keeps popping up on my Rog ally when I press both the thimbsticks and I can't close it. Are you able to help me out ?
I would check the hotkey settings and see if it is configured to launch the keyboard when both thumbs are pressed. If so, then you can change this to something else.
Thanks! If you're using the built in overlay provided by HC, then it is only going to show temps for the CPU and not the GPU. This is even the case when using my custom overlay that I created and has to do with the APU itself. There is no way to retrieve temps for both that I am aware of. On other devices such as the ROG Ally or Ayaneo 2 I am able to get temps for both

Yes. I have this on my Ayaneo 2 Geek. The only difference is that it has the 6800U instead of the 7840U. Everything else is the same. It works good. I deleted the AyaSpace and I use HC in it's place
Whaen you're in game is Desktop Layout toggled off? If not, then the game thinks you are using a mouse and keyboard and the controller will not work properly

It’s like steam just takes control over the steam deck again the haptic feedback on the track pad turns back on when steam is open too. Could it be something to do with steam input? Also when I open the quick tools menu the game exits full screen and I have to go back into game settings to manually set it back to full screen lol 😂
@@OVERKILLGAMING786 UPDATE: So for some reason I had to reorder the controls on steam as it was using the steam deck controls and the Xbox input was second so switched that around and it working now but still having the issue of quick access making my game windowed

Is HC better than steam deck tools? I used to use SWICD but had a lot of problems with it, but switched to Steam Deck Tools and its been better... But still have issues with it though.
I only briefly tried Steam Deck tools. It's cool but I am more accustomed to HC and it is what I prefer to use. I would say give it a try and see if you like it. It has a lot of features

If you are happy with SDT why not stick with it? I have used both and I prefer HC over SDT I have it on two of my handhelds (Steam Deck and Ayaneo) and will try it out on the Ally when it arrives. It has worked the best for me out of everything I have used. Plus, I have had good contact with the devs. Whenever I had a question or needed help they were quick to respond. Even helping people out in my Discord server.
Have you toggled on Desktop Layout? If Desktop Layout is toggled on then I would check the Desktop layout settings where you can configure the joysticks to work as a mouse in whatever way you like
Thank you for these video guides. You mentioned that you were going to do another one focusing on how to set up gyro controls. I really need some help setting up a profile specifically for sim racing titles using the gyro/motion control for steering cars, and the triggers and buttons set to braking and acceleration, gear change etx. I haven’t even been able to find this information for Steam OS, let alone Windows, but I suppose they would both be similar? I would really appreciate your help with this, since I can’t work with the usual joystick control for steering since I’ve only ever played sim racing games using a FF wheel and pedals setup up to now, Thanks you.
Yes. You can choose between an XBOX or PS controller in Steam depending on which controller you have active in HC. You can also set up controller profiles in HC per game.
I don't have my handheld with me at the moment, but I believe you can adjust the haptic feedback vibration strength in the Handheld Companion controller settings
Just installed this but I’m getting a message in the controller tab. Says physical controller is not hidden. Also under input devices it shows no physical controller detected. Any ideas?
HC is light years ahead of SWICD. SWICD is bare bones and provides one form of controller emulation along with being harder to use and set up. HC provides controller service, power management, and more

I don't experience this very often but I have experienced it a few times where the app may become unresponsive. The devs are working on bug fixes as they become aware of them. Hopefully, with the next update which should be in the next day or two it will address that. Basically, when it happens I simply force close and relaunch.

Nice Vid! Would like to know if there is a way to remap back buttons for game and not hotkeys. I usually use them for jump and crouch.
Yes. If you go into the HC settings under the profiles tab and enable Controller layout you can map buttons to other buttons there.

My mouse cursor with the right touchpad keeps shaking. I can't seem to find if it's a double input somewhere.
Hmm.. is this in a game or does it happen outside of a game also? If in a game, you may need to toggle off desktop layout
On the Windows 11 desktop, Must be a bug when I updated. I'm going to have to do a fresh install of HHC.

Is HC better than steam deck tools? I used to use SWICD but had a lot of problems with it, but switched to Steam Deck Tools and its been better... But still have issues with it though.
I only briefly tried Steam Deck tools. It's cool but I am more accustomed to HC and it is what I prefer to use. I would say give it a try and see if you like it. It has a lot of features

PS remote play doesn't support virtual controller anymore. So HC is not working with me I just tried it. Am I missing something?

If you are happy with SDT why not stick with it? I have used both and I prefer HC over SDT I have it on two of my handhelds (Steam Deck and Ayaneo) and will try it out on the Ally when it arrives. It has worked the best for me out of everything I have used. Plus, I have had good contact with the devs. Whenever I had a question or needed help they were quick to respond. Even helping people out in my Discord server.

Have you toggled on Desktop Layout? If Desktop Layout is toggled on then I would check the Desktop layout settings where you can configure the joysticks to work as a mouse in whatever way you like

Yes. We use this instead of SWICD. Way better. Way more features and easier to set up

Thank you for these video guides. You mentioned that you were going to do another one focusing on how to set up gyro controls. I really need some help setting up a profile specifically for sim racing titles using the gyro/motion control for steering cars, and the triggers and buttons set to braking and acceleration, gear change etx. I haven’t even been able to find this information for Steam OS, let alone Windows, but I suppose they would both be similar? I would really appreciate your help with this, since I can’t work with the usual joystick control for steering since I’ve only ever played sim racing games using a FF wheel and pedals setup up to now, Thanks you.

Yes. You can choose between an XBOX or PS controller in Steam depending on which controller you have active in HC. You can also set up controller profiles in HC per game.

Yes, you will need a keyboard and you will map it in the custom hotkeys section
Hi, I have this weird problem that vibration under windows is quite "hard" and noisy. Has anyone experienced the same problem and found a solution?
I don't have my handheld with me at the moment, but I believe you can adjust the haptic feedback vibration strength in the Handheld Companion controller settings

Just installed this but I’m getting a message in the controller tab. Says physical controller is not hidden. Also under input devices it shows no physical controller detected. Any ideas?

HC is light years ahead of SWICD. SWICD is bare bones and provides one form of controller emulation along with being harder to use and set up. HC provides controller service, power management, and more

Is there a fix for where it just sits on the system tray and will not open after it has been installed?
I don't experience this very often but I have experienced it a few times where the app may become unresponsive. The devs are working on bug fixes as they become aware of them. Hopefully, with the next update which should be in the next day or two it will address that. Basically, when it happens I simply force close and relaunch.
