The thing that impresses me so much is that they didn't just cover the song, but made their own arrangement throughout yet still managed to remain true to the song. It's things like adding building reprisals of the voiced part when everybody is expecting the original climax, but then delivering the intro as the outro completely spot on.
The Warning has changed the way I look at this song, this cover is spectacular, the best one of the black album in my opinion.
The words actually hit you much stronger in this cover than in the (great) original. Maybe because you can actually hear them ;-)
Pairing a pop singer and a hard rock band to play a metal song is an interesting concept and I think it worked well.

Well,Metallica just did it with Miley Cyrus,but she's just trying so hard to be liked by a rock audience,it's a joke. That collaboration has nothing on this.
@@robhaunui3343 Yeah Rob, it doesn't always work, But I think why this worked was The Warning incorporated Alessia into what they do instead of going too pop.
@@professorg9424 absolutely correct,that was some clever arranging on their part,to allow Alessia to ease into this,being a pop singer.I feel her vocals were limited,so they used them wisely throughout,and when the song progressed to the harder sections its where Dany and Pau took the reigns,as this is what The Warning do best - but because of their talent,and we've seen it,they could cover any genre. Big ups to Alessua though,at least she stepped out of her comfort zone,so good on her,and I'd pick her over Miley any day. I would love to see The Warning do this version with Lzzy Hale though - imagine that...what she did with The Hu last year was incredible.
Metallica wanted people to turn these songs on their head. They didn't want straight up note for note covers. They wanted reimagined versions

Late invitation, they took the challenge, limited time, they had the courage, they dared to rebuild it, they succeeded and made it their own
They are doing those BIG THINGS now, OMG there is not a better band out there at this point in time, they are mowing down stereo types, knocking down walls, these Girls Rock, it is that simple, and the fact that they are so humble makes them that much more incredible.
I'm not a Metallica fan so the original Enter Sandman is not sacred to me and I have no expectations of how someone else's cover of the song is supposed to sound. I absolutely love this rendition of Enter Sandman, and I like how the song started off as a pop song with Alessia singing lead and slowly transitioned to a rock song with Dany taking lead. Some people wish Alessia wasn't in the picture at all. However, she was the one who was invited by Metallica to participate in the Blacklist Album. Alessia and The Warning have the same international manager and he was the one who suggested a collaboration between Alessia and The Warning. I am thankful Alessia reached out to my favorite band to offer such an awesome opportunity, and collaboration with an artist from a different genre of music is not a bad thing.
Robert. The Warning did do a straight up cover of *Enter Sandman* back in 2014. Which went viral that launch the Warning. So I was worried why would The Warning do another cover since they already did one.

Hey Kevin. Yes, I've listened to numerous reaction videos of the ladies doing their 2014 cover. That version of the song doesn't do anything for me but I love watching how talented the band was at such a young age. But, THIS VERSION, has an impact with me and I can't stop listening to it. The same words as Metallica's original, delivered in a different tone and tempo, and with the passion that The Warning is so good at, and the song hits a nerve. Frankly, I'm amazed at that because I never expected to love any version of Enter Sandman.
Yeah, I loved the entire song, not just the little sections where DPA were holding their instruments. The whole thing, including Alessia's part, is genius. There's no rule that says a song has to be head banging adrenaline rush all the way through to be great.

For me personally this is something special. How risky to take on an iconic metal song (no fans like metal fans) like Enter Sandman and fuse some hard rock with pop and heavenly melodies? How clever to have the iconic riff subtly playing throughout the song, its there if you listen. How eerily creepy it all seems to be, somehow creating more goosebumps than the original? It could have gone so terribly wrong, instead its magic. You know what song they are covering, its obvious, but this is so refreshing, so different that it stands on its own. How awesome was Dany's scream, at that point I loved this song, after the scream I felt transcended, lifted to a higher plane.
If anyone doubted The Warnings musical chops, this song should have dispelled those doubts. I don't think any other band, along with Alessia Cara, could have achieved what they've done here.

As Dany (from The Warning) said during an interview- they took it as Metallica originally wrote it... as a lullaby (a sick and demented one, but a lullaby). They took the original classic and reinvented it into an Epic, fresh, clean, and modern masterpiece. They were very worried that their fans might not like it. Nice! Alessia Cara is a Canadian grammy award wining pop singer. Metallica approached Alessia. She has the same management agency as The Warning and they suggested a collab. Metallica asked them to not do a straight cover. The collab was remote. Shot in an abandoned textile mill outside Monterrey, Mexico. An incredible reimagined classic!
The question was asked to Alessia Cara if she wanted to contribute on the album and she is on the same agency as TW and someone suggested to Alessia Cara a cooperation with TW. The rest is history as they say. From Metallica’s point of view in an interview with Rolling Stone

This is a complete rebuild of the song, and they knocked it out of the park! I wasn't happy at first with AC being in it but I think it works very well. Plus, I feel certain they'll play it in concert at some point, so it will be all TW.
I hope AC can appear live with the warning via video/click track. And I hope The Warning will appear at AC shows as well on the screen & playback in a AC pop version of *Enter Sandman.* Dani did say she would like to take Enter Sandman on the road when they resume. Probably meaning they're working on a live version with all the parts. Plus get the rights to use Alessia Cara voice as well.
First time I heard Enter Sandman back in ‘91 I thought what the hell is this but grew to love it the more I heard it understanding they wanted to move past thrash metal, The Warnings version popped for me the first time I heard it- pure fire 🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘
This is why I love this version of *Enter Sandman.* It went from pop to rock to prog to hard rock. And guys like you Tom who believes *Enter Sandman* is this sacred cow. Just waiting for that Metallica riff. I was hooked when the video showed the band playing outside the first time. Cause The Warning has *EVOLVED* into a true blue hard rock band before our eyes.
yeah I was definitely looking for the rift, just because it is so iconic, but I think I would have been satisfied either way. I listened to this 2 more times through after and it is on my spotify and I am totally digging it.

Canadian singer and songwriter Alessia Cara has won 17 awards out of 73 nominations including a Grammy, a Juno, Fan Favorite at the MTV Awards and Best New Artist & Best Album in 2018. She's also signed with the same record label as the Warning and since Alessia is in the POP area ... they thought it would be an "interesting" mix. BTW, Metallica has given this cover a HUGE 2 Thumbs up :-)
Another fantastic cover revisited by the Warning and Aleesia Cara, this song now is its own entity of life and will be around for a long time to come.
These songs on the Blacklist album are not intended to be "covers", but a re-imagining of the songs as a tribute to the 30th anniversary of the Black album.
Kind of had same reaction first listen but by the end of the 2nd and 3rd listen was all hell yeah. The Warning does it again. Love it!

Your comments about Pau and her facial expressions were spot on. If you look closely at the 6:37 mark of your video, right after Dany sings "things that will bite" Pau flashes her teeth and gives a bit of an evil grin. Love it!

I love that they are fearless when they make a song, I know this isn't their song, but now it is because they arranged everything but the ending different . To me, the ending was more smash-face than Metallica's because of the brilliant slow build. Alessia and all the harmonies took the place needing a lead solo spot. And it sounded excellent all the way through. The live show is gonna be so kick ass. I hope I get to see it too.
Love it. Paulina now the smallest but would not want to be her drum kit, really gives it a pounding. I wonder how many drum kits she manages to destroy. Already know she breaks a lot of sticks. Also when is a cover not a cover? When it’s a reimagining, best ever. ❤️🤘🎸🇦🇺
Fun Fact: because the expensive costs of flying fares Pau almost all the concerts plays in rental drum kits, she have a new drum kit (the white one used in Choke) to take to the tours but she can´t used it because the tour was canceled for the pandemic, it´s identical at the one she uses daily in The Cave only in different color.

@@stevenhopwood8195 Actually in a little presentation they has in "El Chopo" in Mexico City, Pau ask another drumer to lean his drum kit and the guy say yes when he saw the way she plays he was worried for his poor kit, there is a fan video and in the comments the guy tells the history and the girls in a vlog said some random guy lend his kit to Pau.

Sorry I am late to the party. What I understand about this cover project is that originaly Metallica invited Alessia to do the cover and the only rule was to do it yours in your own way, so, since Alessia and The Warning are in the same record label, so, they contacted the Warning to asked them if they were interested to work with Alessa in the cover, The Warning as being Metallica fans they accepted, BUT, they only had a week to get all the project done. With all the traveling restrictions were at that time, so they did all the production virtually, audio recording, video, etc. Remember, Alessa lives in Canada and The Warning have their base in Mexico. So, you can see in the project done all these important parts of the puzzle fitting perfectly to the final product. 1- Do the cover yours, in your own way, 2- Being a two different artists (Alessa and The Warning as entity), you can see and feel they own interpretation and 3- In the video is is perfectly captured the times we currently live, Alessa proyected her image on the wall means they did the collaboration remotely and finally just to let their cover clear they close it with the original riff that everybody knows. I love everything about this Tom. Their voices blend really well with Alessia's. Their harmonies are spectacular. Their arrangement of this timeless classic is off the charts. Their video is amazing: Legendary work here.

Grammy Award winning artist Alessia Cara is more of a sultry soulful Pop singer/songwriter. She and The Warning share the same international agent who suggested that she collaborate with TW. So with very little time, TW jumped at the opportunity and arranged, recorded the music and vocals, and shot the video; all in less than a week!

A success in taking care of styles, one pop and the other hard rock. Metallica challenged you to make your own version. They respected each other and each one shaped their style, enhancing their quality version. An oversight would produce an imbalance of styles that would subtract from the version. Beautiful timing and harmonization with a shape that makes it unique. Devastating for unbelievers or people tied to their past who refuse to go out into the present. If the warning had been commissioned with its own version, it would surprise anyone. It would be a version of hard rock with surprising innovations, because it would not be limited to anything.
Yeah, it takes about three or four listens and you're hooked.

The funny thing about this whole production is *the tempo NEVER changes!* Even though it may seem slower in the beginning, it's really just the subdued vocals and different elements coming in every other beat. When it comes into the heavier parts, it's still the same tempo, but with a lot more riffs, drum fills, etc. ...and of course, the ending comes in full on like the original.😉 Great review Tom, thanks.👍 🤘😎🤘

I could tell by your facial expressions you were questioning the direction the song was heading but “all was right with the world” when the riff at the end grabbed ya. Dani, Pau, and Ale are talented song writers and musicians. Can’t wait to hear their EP, “May Day,” coming out on October 8th.🤘🏽☮️
It has gotten to the point where if I think of Enter Sandman I think of this, not the Metallica original. I just plain like this better. It has more variety, and takes unexpected musical turns (building up into the chorus but pulling back the first time), and the final buildup to the coda after Pau's spoken passage is just a joy to listen to.

I heard all album and this cover is the best, by far.
I honestly wasn’t sure about this version when I first heard it either.
After a few listens I grew to first appreciate how they restructured it then I grew to love it.
The build throughout the song is so beautiful and it’s so satisfying when they pay it off at the end.

When Dany took over the vocals I literally got goosebumps. She has such a powerful voice and always full of passion and emotion. Alessia did a great job too, thanks to Alessia the girls got this great opp and it was the best collab. Dany in my opinion is the best front woman with a great voice for rock :)

Talk about making a song their own, eh? I really like what they did with it. I also like how they brought the heaviness for the last little bit as well, reminding us that they DO know how to rock out as well. Can't wait to hear more from them when the new album comes out. It was amusing to see you struggling with your own history with the song, your understanding and expectation of what the song is, interfering with listening to what they were creating from it. But what they created is a gothic lullaby, a sensibility very true to the lyrics. They modified motifs from the original, and they added a few of their own too, such as that angular four note guitar line (which has a kind of James Bond feel to it) and the whoas. Creating this slow burn and build that finally explodes and comes home with the original riff, but far heavier than Metallic ever played it, is a perfect payoff.
Try Volbeat's "Don't Tread On Me" off the Blacklist Album, it's a banger!
I don't understand what risk they took, hearing the song in a different way and still giving the nod to Metallica at the end. We already know The Warning can play the song and if we wanted everyone to do songs the same way how boring would the Blacklist be. I don't see Metallica making faces or crying the blues in fact it keeps the songs relevant and fresh. Embrace the difference Tom or stay stuck in the 80's!
