It's so easy to forget how good and impactful a song can be after you've heard it hundreds of times. That's one of the reason I love reaction videos, especially when you have people who actually know what they're talking about. It's the closest you can get to hearing a song again for the first time and get some good analysis at the same time.

So it was written just before, like a couple of weeks prior to him dying." I find that even more heartbreaking, if that's possible. Hearing his hopeful and supportive lyrics, knowing his brother never got to hear it
Fun fact: Shaun Morgan is the reason Amy wrote the Evanescence song "Call Me When You're Sober." She was dating him at the time of this video and his drinking destroyed their relationship. It is said that when Shaun heard the song mentioned above that he checked into rehab that day.
Sean was going through a very tough time at that point, his brother had "commited" 😢 during the finding beauty in negative spaces cycle right infront of him. And he self medicated

22:16 to 22:19 in the video... that's it! THAT... is the greatest compliment a piece of music can receive. And yeah, I was at the same intensity of emotion at that very same place in the music.
I love that you mentioned the emotional impact! This song invokes tears no matter what mood I'm in. It demands the tears be pulled out of me. I LOVE IT!
Hell yeah, Seether is often left out of the conversation about top tier grunge / rock bands, but they've been in my top 5 forever... Their acoustic recordings are phenomenal too!
Probably because they weren’t part of the Grunge Era. They didn’t release their first album until several years after Soundgarden broke up (1997). They were more part of the Post-Grunge Era - basically “grunge with cleaner vocals and guitars.”
Seether is definitely not "in the conversation about top tier grunge" because they came after that era. They're very comfortably in the later end of the "post-grunge" genre, which was basically simultaneous to nu-metal. However bands like Bush, Live, Silverchair, of course Foo Fighters, Collective Soul, and Candlebox are probably the foundations of "post-grunge", with additional highlights from bands like Creed and early Nickleback (can't stand them, but Leader of Men is a great song, and the first Creed album is proper excellent). Amy is at the top of my list of best female rock singers. Her voice is phenomenal. I saw Evanescence in concert last year and it was probably the best live show I've ever been to. The thing that always stood out to me about this song is the dichotomy. Shaun is so raw, gritty and almost unrefined sounding. While Amy is so clean and beautiful and technical. Its like dark and light harmonizing. Its beautiful!
Hey Elizabeth! The guitar effect played at (5:38) is known as a "Tremolo." It is a fun effect that rhythmically changes the volume of the guitar signal (not the pitch). You can mimic this effect, without having the proper effect, by moving the volume knob up and down at a rapid pace on an amp. Keep up the good work, I love your content!
Amy and Shaun, both, individually sound absolutely amazing. When they get together and harmonize, they become so powerful that they could very likely literally move mountains!
I remember hearin this live many years ago at an Evanescence concert in Vienna. Sether was the pre-show and this song was part of their set. So Amy came on stage, half prepared for her own show in sweatpants and with half her makeup to sit down with a piano and perform this with them...magical stuff 😍
Hi E. This was the first song by Seether to actually bring a tear to this 58 year olds eye. The combination of the music, Shauns vocal breaks and Amy's ultra pure tones still hits me to this day! Peace.❤
Amy Lee is the only person that could make me fall in love just from the sound of her voice. It has a unique beauty to it. I have never heard anyone project their voice the way that she is able to. She is one of my favorite singers in any genre.
Agree 💯. She did Nihalist Blues with BMTH at project download and she killed it. So now I desperately want her to re record the vocals with the band. I think they intended it with her in mind anyway
The Seether version of this track is great alone and very underrated. The addition of Amy Lee in this version just sends it into the stratosphere where is truly belongs. Amy Lee has always been on an entire other level.
Agree. I heard and loved the Shaun only version so when the Amy Lee re-release happened it annoyed me. Mostly because I was kinda sick of her since Bring Me To Life was literally inescapble and had reached the point of being annoying. Now that I'm several years removed I can truly appreciate how amazing their harmonies sound, even if it cost the song its original rawness.
I watched Seether in Durban many years ago when they were still called Saron Gas. It was an amazing show. Shaun was very humble and was amazed at the crowd reaction. It was a good show.
I went to their final show at the Mercury in Cape Town before Saron Gas relocated to the United States. One of the best club gigs I've attended. It was such a wild atmosphere. I still prefer the 'Fragile' mixes to the ones on 'Disclaimer'.
I'm glad you reviewed this song. It's been one of my favorites for years. I still get goosebumps when it starts and I've listened to it so many times. Just something about it makes me feel.
Amy Lee is credited for the string arrangement. You definitely hear grunge influence in Shaun"s voice. They were kind of lumped in with the new metal genre but are also considered post grunge. Post Grunge is basically a style that had a lot of the elements of grunge but a much higher production quality and a more radio ready sound and subject matter
I'm watching Elizabeth thinking to myself the entire time: wait for it, wait for it. I almost wanted her to just watch the whole thing first without commenting just to see her reactions to it in the moment of the song in its entirety. Their intonation and inflection in what they're singing is amazing. This song is nothing short of a masterpiece in all forms. And yeah, there was plenty of emotions running wild in this one.
Absolute masterpiece song. Haven't heard it in a long time but it always amazes you instantly. Just beautiful. Voices are heavenly and the instrumental is so fitting too.
Shaun's drawl and twang are pretty signature of Seether, and Amy's voice is both vulnerable and full at the same time. The harmonies are so pleasing to hear too. Just a solid song all around.
That was fantastic! Everyonce in a while I watch your reactions to some of my favorite songs. In my opinion 'Broken' is one of the lesser known masterpieces. And your analysis and emotions helped me connect even deeper with a song I have always loved. Thank you for that! It has probably been suggested or people have asked already, if you have considered watching the whole video first and then go back and react to it in great detail, right? You not only know your music, your authentic and inspired feelings and your facial expressions created by what these feelings evoke in you are truly worth witnessing as well. I believe it would make your reaction videos even more enjoyable. Just a thought : )
Sometimes when there are two singers their voices just don't match up well, but with these two it's like peas and carrots. They just work so perfectly together it elevates this song to a much higher level.
Amy Lee harmonises well with a lot of singers. She has done incredible songs with Lzzy Hale of Halestorm, and 'Use my voice' has a lot of female artists in the background, from singing to instruments.
I've been listening to this song for 20 years, I play the piano and saxophone, and I have a lot of musical background from those sources. But your video gave me so much more background on the vocals, and I learned a lot. And your first-time reactions are PRICELESS. I love this!
seether has a lot of songs that are absolutely phenomenal and interesting to look at from a voice performance perspective. they also really stayed true to their sound over their long years of making music in my opinion.
I just love watching your reaction videos. You really appear like you enjoy doing this and you enjoy the music, not just listen to it to critique it right away. Your energy is extremely comforting and even more so to know you’re a nerd too. Definitely keep doing Amy Lee videos and I’ll be a follower for life
I WISH I could experience this song for the first time again. But at the same time, I still feel like it's the first time every time I hear it! This song was a big milestone in my life. I was an angsty, lonely 14-year-old when this song came out and was discovering hard rock and heavy metal (including Evanescence), and the way that those opening guitar chords hit me when I first saw this video is still indescribable. I remember spending a week at summer camp and listening to this song over and over on my store-brand MP3 player, relishing my solitude but also thinking about how distant and lonely I felt from my life during that week. I still get chills and goosebumps listening to this now and hearing it through the eyes and ears of your incredible analysis. Thanks for doing this one!
I absolutely love how your mind processes music into tiny pieces, but I love it even more when you get caught up in the total of the composition. That's what makes goosebumps happen and it's the best thing ever.
Your videos are a treasure to watch. I feel like I'm experiencing old favorites for the first time all over again, and learning a new appreciation for them. Thank you!
This being the first time you've heard Shaun Morgan blows my mind, but I can't be anything but happy because, giiiirl, welcome to it!! Seether will rip your heart out. 100000 recommendations to watch any of the One Cold Night sessions. He puts so much of himself into every performance.
I saw them both live when seether was opening for evanescence. This song was HUGE at that time and I remember the crowd absolutely erupted when Amy came out towards the end of the set for this song. It was a great show.
I absolutely love your passion and the way you disect all these hard rock & metal songs that I've been listening to for the last 25 years!! I've gotten used to so many people not understanding it at all, and I feel like you essentially validate my love for it. FRISSON has become my favorite word as my love for music has intensified over the last couple of years.
Yeah, originally it was just a completely acoustic song. Then this version added the electric guitars and strings. I thought that Amy was the one who arranged the strings.
I still prefer the original version. This one got so overplayed. It didn’t help that when I was working at Champs Sports at the time, it was on one of our videos, so I’d hear numerous times a day for about 6 weeks. Have a renewed appreciation for it, but I just like the original so much more.
It's so cool to see you watch this song for the first time. I think I've watched the video, listened to the song or seen it live so many times I can't count, but each time is special
This is the reworked version, to include Amy Lee, which was released for the 2004 Punisher movie. The original was released in 2002. Morgan wrote the song about the breakup of his marriage and family, after his wife chose to remain in South Africa with their daughter rather than accompany him to live in the United States.
Oh! I LOVE this song! I'm always down for any of your Amy Lee videos, but this song has a special nostalgic place in my heart, alongside Evanescence's original albums. Thank you for analyzing it, and for loving it.
Thank you, Elizabeth. This is one of my all-time favorite songs, and Amy Lee is my #1 favorite female vocalist. Complete agreement with your assessment of the beauty and emotional impact.
Im so happy your reacting to seether ! Shaun Morgan has truly one of the best voices in rock history imo and if you'd like to listen to his range and how powerful his voice is, I highly recommend pass slowly by Seether or for something more popular, their live performance of "Truth" unplugged
@@narcissus79 I still stand by that, he has some incredible emotion in his voice and if you listen to pass slowly and then go to the bridge of like suicide, you will see what I mean. I was going to say that too! It’s awesome!!!
Yes, yes and YES!
Definitely
Thissssssssssssss
Wowww nostalgia x 10
Hi E. This was the first song by Seether to actually bring a tear to this 58 year olds eye. The combination of the music, Shauns vocal breaks and Amy's ultra pure tones still hits me to this day! Peace.❤
Elizabeth is learning that rock and classical share sooo many things.. the emphasis is just on different things
This song is a masterpiece IMO. Been listening to it for YEARS now and it still gives me goosebumps...
Amy Lee is the only person that could make me fall in love just from the sound of her voice. It has a unique beauty to it. I have never heard anyone project their voice the way that she is able to. She is one of my favorite singers in any genre.
Same here. I fell in love with her the very first time I heard her voice back when Bring Me to Life first came out.
I agree
Amy is an incredibly vocalist. Her harmonies are perfect.
Agree 💯. She did Nihalist Blues with BMTH at project download and she killed it. So now I desperately want her to re record the vocals with the band. I think they intended it with her in mind anyway
This is one of the most beautiful songs in history. Just so soothing and emotional
@@IlliniDog01I think it gives even more meaning and raw emotion to the song. Especially considering how their relationship has influenced their music.
Saw them play as Saron Gas at Buccaneers in East London
I'm glad you reviewed this song. It's been one of my favorites for years. I still get goosebumps when it starts and I've listened to it so many times. Just something about it makes me feel.
Amy Lee is credited for the string arrangement. You definitely hear grunge influence in Shaun"s voice. They were kind of lumped in with the new metal genre but are also considered post grunge. Post Grunge is basically a style that had a lot of the elements of grunge but a much higher production quality and a more radio ready sound and subject matter
I had a gut feeling when I heard this song Amy did the arrangement. It just sounds like something she would do.
Seether is super under rated as a band this song won them a grammy
I love Amy Lee's voice and I love the way Elizabeth emotes when touched by music. Fcking teared me up. Yay!
I knew Elizabeth would love Shaun's voice.
She's doing seether now? I really hope she does some of their other songs like Fine Again, Diseased, Weak, Sympathetic, or Save Today.
YES, and fake it
Remedy as well!
Never leave
Here And Now too!
Definitely Fine Again or Remedy
i'm so glad you reviewed this song! it's one of those songs that i've always found to be almost unbearably beautiful.
Every the I hear this song, I'm covered in goosebumps. I heard it the day it came out and cried. It's a beautiful song.
I've been listening to this song for 20 years, I play the piano and saxophone, and I have a lot of musical background from those sources. But your video gave me so much more background on the vocals, and I learned a lot. And your first-time reactions are PRICELESS. I love this!
Whenever you see Elizabeth do this face 🥺 at the end of a song, cause she wanted it to go longer, you know it was a good song ❤
seether has a lot of songs that are absolutely phenomenal and interesting to look at from a voice performance perspective. they also really stayed true to their sound over their long years of making music in my opinion.
Thank you!
Her reaction when the first full chorus hit was amazing hahaha
This is one of the first Seether songs I ever heard, and it still gives me the shivers too.
This being the first time you've heard Shaun Morgan blows my mind, but I can't be anything but happy because, giiiirl, welcome to it!!
Seether will rip your heart out. 100000 recommendations to watch any of the One Cold Night sessions.
He puts so much of himself into every performance.
Judas Mind on Live on Sirius XM SLAPS! It's Seether's newest song. Thank you for finally doing Seether!
Finally! I love Seether so much, their songs and Shaun' voice are amazing
"Broken" was originally written for Seether's debut album "Disclaimer" in 2002. In 2004, Shaun and Amy reworked it for this masterpiece.
I love the original too - it's cool to listen to both of them and note the differences
The original has so much more desperation and a deeper melancholic tone due to being purely acoustic. I just can't stop listening.
I prefer the original too
It's so cool to see you watch this song for the first time.
I've been requesting this one for a couple years now. Glad to see it out.
You are the embodiment of passion in this moment. THANK YOU for helping us who have lost the path see what true passion looks like.
In my opinion, definitely in the conversation for best rock power ballad of all time.
Seether is one of those underrated and sometimes forgotten jems.
10:17 Going back 20yrs to my freshman year of highschool 😮😮 i miss the 90s/ 2000s music
Finally Seether.... this is goona be good
One of the all time great rock duets. Thanks as always for the analysis, Elizabeth!
Oh! I LOVE this song! I'm always down for any of your Amy Lee videos, but this song has a special nostalgic place in my heart, alongside Evanescence's original albums. Thank you for analyzing it, and for loving it.
Incredible song, and how these 2 can harmonise is perfection ❤
there's a reason this song had a choke hold on the early 2000's. glad you got to experience this song.
Thank you, Elizabeth. This is one of my all-time favorite songs, and Amy Lee is my #1 favorite female vocalist. Complete agreement with your assessment of the beauty and emotional impact.
Been dying for you to do some Seether for years now
This song crushes me everytime. Thank you so much for putting into words what I cannot articulate.
You have given me so much JOY watching you analyse BROKEN. I had the biggest warmest smile. Thank you for making my day❤
I've been waiting so long for a Seether analysis. I couldn't hit play fast enough!!
Im so happy your reacting to seether ! Shaun Morgan has truly one of the best voices in rock history imo and if you'd like to listen to his range and how powerful his voice is, I highly recommend pass slowly by Seether or for something more popular, their live performance of "Truth" unplugged
Pass Slowly is a perfect song to truly show how versatile Shaun's voice truly is
@@robertmccreless5019 Yeah 100% agree i love it but because of algorithm and stuff I needed to say something a bit more well known but still great !
Lol 😂😂😂 one of the best voices in rock is a bit generous
@@narcissus79 I still stand by that, he has some incredible emotion in his voice and if you listen to pass slowly and then go to the bridge of like suicide, you will see what I mean. Shaun's screams in that song are something that I haven't heard much before and in pass slowly he really shows his range.
@@narcissus79 I mean listen to their new song Judas mind, Shaun is 45 and still has a pristine voice and has no problems screaming
I loved this song years ago - I’d forgotten about it till you did this reaction thank you very much! Your excitement is exactly my thoughts a beautifully written song with a powerful message
Today is me and my wife's 19th wedding anniversary, this was our first dance song at our reception, have not heard it for ages, perfect timing, many thanks.
Congratulations, today is our 20th. Crazy how fast the years have gone by.
20 years here and it was our first dance song as well. Love it
