    My surplus strength ups high arrived yesterday after waiting for it for two months. It is disappointing. The machining is sloppy with nearly a 1/16" of an inch gap between the uhmw and the bar. It rattles all over the cross piece. The bolt area has no support behind it all. I sent a mail to Jason (the owner) to discuss. At first, I mailed an automated email with a no-reply address without realizing it. When I didn't get a response, I sent it a second time to the correct address. Jason was noticeably upset in his response that I hadn't waited 24 hours for a response. It seems the "no-reply" address did go to him. He offered to send me some tape to fix it. My impression: don't bother with this thing. Rack mounted gliders like the Bully Glyder are a much better option. I personally have that device and it is incredibly well made and smooth. Fits perfectly with no slop. I'm glad I didn't bother to order the ups low or the upgraded pulleys.

      is your rack a main company or a rink-a-dink brand?

    • @TheGeneralPractition
      @TheGeneralPractition 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@aba192 It's a rep PR5000. One of the best selling racks on the market for the last few years. The owner or surplus was going to send me a shim to try and fix it but it was easier just to fix it myself and he was not at all nice in my communications with him. Most rack products these days are adjustable because 75mm has become much more common than 3inch.

      @@TheGeneralPractition idk about much more… with BoS joining rogue in true 3x3.. anyhow I appreciate the feedback, was hoping rogue would finish the retrofit high pulley for the rhino but im now looking for alternatives, will avoid this now so thanks, might rock a cheap pully until something comes up

      @aba192 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@TheGeneralPractition Understood, that makes sense... only constraint of mine is I am dropping a rogue rhino into a 24in rach so I do have to find a way to make that work, but your input is valuable, I might settle for a single cheap pulley as I would save upwards of 500$ compared to a rinkadink slinger/UPS high arrangement

    Getting a high low pulley station with guiderods made for your power rack is the way to go, IMO. The unit for my inexpensive TDS 2" x 2" power rack was about $200 or so, and had chrome plated guide rods, and the low pulley' was higher than those Coop finds to be too low. Probably a little more than $200 now, but well worth it, IMO.

    My one gripe on these systems is unless you already have a weight stack (like coop does in this video) or something similar to hook on to you're left with those dame upright weight pins that are just a pain to load and unload. I opted for a more permanent attachment to my upright in the Bridgebult upper pulley with their weight horns that attack and glide on the same upright.

      Jujimufu's company(Grip Genie) loading pins are the way to go. They are a little bit thinner and have a smaller diameter plastic disc on the bottom which makes it much easier to offset large plates and have a stable angle of the pin when removing plates

    Surplus Strength is next level quality and customer service. I have the UPS High and it’s phenomenal. I also have their stealth spotters which are incredible. They don’t take up a lot of holes on your upright and they’re fast to put on and take off. They’re also made with extra thick steel so they’re stronger than you’ll ever need, especially in a home gym. Are they in a higher price tier? Absolutely, but the value and quality justify the price and then some.

    *I was interested in the Stealth Spotters, but wound up going with Oak Club's version. I like that the Oak Club stealth spotters have UHMW on the underside of the spotter arms, so you can flip them upside-down to get a height micro adjustment on the upright and you'll still have barbell protection. The fact you can't do that with the SS spotters made them an easy pass.*

    I've been planning out my first home gym for the past few months and was really interested in the SS UPS for a long time. I'm really not a fan of the Rogue slinger system so this seemed like the next best bet. However, I think I'm going to end up going with the BOS Hydra lat pull-down attachment. It's a true 3x3 that hooks up to RML racks seamlessly.
    Although I really want American made products in my gym I just can't justify the price point for this item. It gets even more expensive after you include the low row system. I've also heard a lot of people complain about the size of the foot plate on the low row.
    I think a review of the safeties is a good idea!

    What will lat pulldowns do that pull-ups can't? Correct me if I am wrong, but unless lat pulldowns have some provision to hold a user down (enabling him/her to pull with force exceeding bodyweight), it seems that pull-ups are just as good or better and easier to achieve without this maze of metal.

If the price does not work for you don’t buy it and invest in the item that fits your garage gym needs and goals. That said when I ordered mine it did come with the pins and loading pin. So the model for them has changed since my purchase.

    Coop you forgot to mention how the UPS cable is free on top and looks tacky. It doesn’t give a clean finish and a big mess on aesthetics in the clean design when you’re not using it..

    I got a Surplus Strength UPS with all the bells and whistles (low row, aluminium pulleys etc) plus shipping and customs to Scandinavia so it cost a pretty penny, but I have absolutely zero regrets. I use it in almost every workout and could not imagine my gym without it. Quality product, quality people at the company. Buy once, cry once. I have Rogue RML rack and went with a 103" cable.

    There's no question that everything Surplus Strength makes seems to be of very high quality, but as you pointed out, this is an attachment that really only does 2 things (lat pulldowns, tricep pressdowns). I know some people will scoff at this, but at the height of the pandemic, I went with a Titan T3 rack and the full Titan pulley system, as opposed to the lat/low row attachment. Sure, its nylon pulleys are nowhere near as smooth as the UPS High's -- I do wish there was a way to limit the side to side motion of the Titan pulleys -- but it was much cheaper (it's only about $110 even now, some 3 years later) and by moving the lower cross braces up one notch on the rack, I can put the low pulley just where it should be -- right about where it would be at a commercial gym. By contrast, even the Rep attachment places the low pulley WAY too far down -- it's more like an upright row.

    How do the Surplus Strength Spots compare to the Oak Club Alpha Arms? Those are the top two on my list. I like the minor adjustment ability with the Alphas, but both have a very low profile.

    Bought my UPS high and UPS low rhino through surplus strength a few months back. I placed the items i wanted in my cart and left it for a day or two. They shot me an email with an offer to upgrade to aluminum pulleys for free with a promotion coupon. Definitely worth a shot for anyone interested in pulling the trigger

    Might be worth you checking out for a review

    Coop, your reviews are very well done. You cover all the bases and comparisons as well as other options. And your honest. Your very good at what you do. Keep up the great work ! Now as far as ideas. Have you reviewed the Titan leverage squat machine. I hear from a reliable source that it's a very good piece of equipment for quads. Im doing my "due diligence" on this one before I make any decision. Anyway hats off to you.

    Titan high low pulley system rack attachment! Check it out. Works great. My only recommendation is to face the pulley that the weights hang off in towards the rack and up. This will create better clearance.

    I’d love to see you review Uclips. I bought mine a month or so ago and it’s super versatile. Also would love to see you review stuff from arm assassasin strength shop. I’ve gotten a ton of things from them and Lucas the owner is great at helping with custom orders too

    I think a dedicated lat pulldown station is the best option. It's the piece of equipment with the smallest floor space.

    Bought it and love it. Game changing upgrade over Spud's pulleys. Only negatives (other than price): My REP multigrip pullup bar doesn't give the SS pulley hardware much room to breath, so for lat pulldowns, I sit sorta off center. Beyond that, I have an REP Omni rack, so that means I can't use the UPS low pulley attachment. But overall, this is a great product. Use it every upper body day.
