  • Growing Succulents In my moderate Oregon USA climate zone 8b and chatting with my sister Amber of River Wood Gardens growing succulents in the cold of Ottawa Canada zone 4a. Its a cold and blustery day on the farm so indoor projects are on the list and the succulents have been neglected over the past few months. Join me as we clean them up, propagate a few cuttings and make a beautiful succulent arrangement for the home.

Eyyy! Those cactus. Are edible. I’m from Mexico and there is so many ways you can cook it . the fruit is edible too so sweet. Some Mexican stores have cactus and fruit ready to cook. And cactus can be planted outside I’m in Virginia. And I have cactus in my farm

We have them in the store all the time here in Oregon, my mom made something with them, I'm doing to have to see what it was and recreate it. They grow outside here year round but mine is so little I wanted to make sure it survived.

So interesting! I'm just starting to learn and grow succulents. I had no idea some of them would overwinter in such cold growing zones. Amazing.

I vote for a Crowley House tour before things get too crazy there!😉 I would love to work on the flower farm. Even though it's been a rather mild winter here on the plains, there's not much to look at in the winter. I think I will try and grow a few more succulents outside this year. I've managed to keep some alive inside so far🤞Will start some seeds pretty soon too I think. Having a greenhouse would be a dream come true for me. Can't wait to start playing in the dirt🌺

I'm working on it. It will probably be out in a few weeks or so. Fingers crossed 🤞

Looks great! They can certainly be fun. Thanks to Amber for sharing her garden - very nice. I am colder than her, but I may have to try growing some outside as well. I have some inside but that's about it. Thanks Brayden for the fun facts - I had no idea. Great video!!! Well done.

Beth this is a fun video! I didn't realize you had so many succulents and cacti! It is amazing how stable the succulents can be as with your sisters garden in Canada. I have a flat, round bird feeder outside that I put a small red succulent in a couple of years ago. I very rarely do anything with it and it keeps coming back every year. I was looking at it a couple of days ago and it is filled with life. So exciting! Thanks for sharing. 🌵

That was very interesting. I had a jade plant years ago, and like the succulents that look like a flower. My niece has very good luck growing small cactus, and a neighbor across the street from us has a tall cactus he brings out each summer. It looks like something you see in Arizona, rather than Connecticut, and attracts a lot of attention.

I see you can grow cactus in pot without draining hole! I have some cool pots but no holes i guess i can use them !

I've never been a fan of succulents with the possible exception of aloe. Mama used aloe like a salve such when someone had a small burn while cooking. Loved how you saved your grandma's plants in the greenhouse. I'm sure she would approve.

I am not a fan of all succulents but after inheriting them I have grown to love most of them, I did kill one on purpose we named it the Kraken.
