Its just amazing how far we have come in music production equipment. I learned back in the day on the Mpc 2000xl. And we had to hook up all types of rack mounted gear, Zip drives, etc. Now everything is so streamlined. Just mind blowing
Some folks like that ability to use actual gear instead of virtual gear. Me personally I like to create on the akai and then mix and add other aspects in Logic Pro.
Andy Mac is ridiculous. His skills and ability to explain clearly while keeping it simple and fun is a true gift. You can see how much enjoys what he does and his appreciation for music creation as a true artist is commendable. As someone mentioned earlier, Andy presents the products for Akai Pro so well, that you may get it even if you don’t NEED it, lol. So much respect for Andy Mac and him teaming up with Akai Pro is a great match. Being able to be portable, have keys and the MPC full feature is a real win for Akai. Is the MPC portion of it more like an MPC One or MPC Live? Also, will Andy be able to demonstrate the setup and use of the MPC Key 37 with a modular device such as the Elektron Analog 4 Mk2 or Elektron Octatrack Mk2?
Beautiful. I'm glad Akai now has a 37 key. I love the Key 61, but not as easy to transport or compact. SO this a wonderful thing. Excellent tutorial Andy as always.
Just an FYI. The sounds and plugins Andy is using don’t come with the MPC Key37 standard. They are an additional purchase. The stock sounds are not as good.
Nearly every "review" has done this and it's just plain dumb or dishonest ... Why would you use plug-ins that don't come with Key 37 and are hardly a trivial purchase (like $500+ to level-up to the package that comes with Key 61).
I get it that a lot of people who will be looking at Key 37 (or at least this video) already own an MPC and maybe those plug-ins (but I think it's more a case of these YT testers just having a bunch of everything.) But even Akai is doing it by releasing images of the sound browser with a full screen of plug-ins (including $$$ ones like Fabric and Studio Grand, Etc.) ... Almost half the screen will be empty for those who don't already own them ...
@@BJ-fj6jwI am beginning also. I have the Akai mpk mini plus. It seems very good and is professional level. For added Fun and control, Get the M Audio Air 192/4 for an audio interface to hook to speakers/monitors/amplifier , and input other instruments and microphone
If anything, please tighten up the midi, add visual EQ, spectrum analyzer, multiband compressor and add a timeline within the software. As for the hardware, put that HDMI Out back in you guys had in the Beta Mpcx. Dont argue and just do it or add bluetooth video out. Beyong this... Add the extra ram(what year is it), USB Audio Out, and then work on the converters. These additions would make the Mpc's a Real Solid Piece Of Kit.
Of all the MPC's he's touched and presented, his favorite is right there in the back. That mofo 2000xl. You can't re-create the sound of legendary gear with these new jawns.
Awesome value for someone not into the MPC world. I have some Live 2, but if I had to start it over, I would definitely get some MPC Key 37. Remember, it’s a all around, all singing workstation, with a touch screen for 900 $. My first midi synth from 1997 was 2000 $.
FINALLY! The rumors and leaks are TRUE!!! Just ordered mine from Guitar Center online! Well, via chat. Delivery is in 3-5 business days! They have a few in their warehouse!
Man, you are probably right but that would kill me. But a Live 2 plus some keys, then the Key 61 dropped. So I bought that one and now the Key 37 drops - which is what I wanted to have all along.
Exactly it would make more sense to come with for example the mpc x in black or retro color at the same time so consumers had a choice or the mpc one in red black or retro but they know there are consumers that will buy every new shiny object because someone plays on it to make it look kool when really just give us the mpc 37,61 at the same time with or without red black or retro colors so at that particular time they can buy what fits their need
In the time and place we are in right now with the music industrial world…. I am expecting so much more from everything that gets released and no matter how aesthetically pleasing they are it’s not enough…
That beat is so early millennium ATL … man I missed that sound. You sold me Brother I will have to get this machine. I’ve heard all your demos in the past, but this is my favorite by far. You literally gave the true example early Atlanta, hip-hop and R&B! I can definitely hear Darnell Jones on it. Keep up the amazing job, Brother.💯💪🏿❤️
This is thing is amazing. I have over 20K of gear but really, this is all I really need to have fun making music. And for the price, there are some sacrifices but if you are skilled, you can make it work.
I've just bought one of these units just off the back of this video... What impressed me the most was the functionality of the screen. It beats the Roland Fantom hands down. I have never owned any Akai gear so I'm looking forward to hearing what's under the hood on this... Nicely presented video, it pitched the unit well 😉
Probably gonna be a while and it could be a fair bit more expensive ... But I do think it's a good possibility. Although a lot of people other people think this could be the last one for "this generation."
There is very basic functionality: you can chain sequences and turn that into a new sequence. Not exactly arrangement. Maybe enough for some work, not for me though…
I own the keys 61 and the live 2 with a small Akai controller when I’m out of the studio or downstairs with the family being present, this unit with speakers would have filled that void completely albeit without the keys 61 4 gig, the red hurts me too, sorry Andy this is a hell no hard pass, although I love the hard buttons and the layout looks like a lovely work flow, and the form factor is sexy, brilliant presentation as usual.
We are so much alike! I too own the Key 61 and a Live 2 with a little Keystep controller. I too don't care much for the red either and the 2 GB is painfull. It's also a bummer that they came out with this just now because it is what I wanted to have all along. BUT... I still need to have it.
AKAI....From a product planning POV, consider a speaker line dedicated to MPC line. One folds for traveling purposes. Another more stationary. Sound quality specs near MPC Live speakers. This is a logical step vertically. ❤
Never understood people that complain about the standalone sounds that come with the MPCs. The pianos, electric pianos, strings, pads, bass synths and leads are all very decent, tweakable and playable. It comes out of the box with great meat and potato sounds, And some cool stuff thrown in there. Thousands of presets. And the plugins that come with it allow you to make the sounds your own.
Whenever Akai brings this man out you know the device suddenly seems a whole lot more interesting, still holding out for something more powerful, because my Force is doing everything this newest MPC can't, but I'm happy to see Akai go with different form factors and colors, but unfortunately the internal power just leaves something to be desired.
Don't know why the mod and pitch wheels are not at key level on the left side, other than that , so far so good. Might wait a bit until some price cuts or second hand comes along but an awesome tool to ditch the daw and cpu.
Hello all. Thank you for that excellent video! Detailed and precise information. You made it look like so much fun, wow! Much appreciated. Can you do one for the Akai MPK Mini Plus? I know nothing about any of this but want to learn. Is the MPC Key 37 or the MPC One+ too much for a beginner? Please advise. Rock rock on!!!
Hi Andy. Thanks for all your great videos. I just got my new MPC keys 37, -It's simply amazing. I have always used PC/DAW and have never touched a standalone MPC, but it's crazy -this is very very easy to use. But I cant find any vocoder effect, What do I do then? Any suggestions? Sustain pedals is not working with this keyboard. What going on is it the beta version or just the keys?(im usin necktar sustain pedal and tried changing polarities and also have got no response from akai)
Great demo. Thanks! Do you think AKAI will ever address the omni midi note off issue on the MPC range soon? I was a AKAI S2000 user years ago and it was a true midi module / sampler that was embedded in my studio setup. I was really disappointed that such a simple/fundamental (bug) was in one of my recent MPC ONE+ purchase after watching one of your demos.
I bought MPC Key 37. I installed the software on my Apple computer, but I could not connect to Logic Pro. There isn't even a single video explaining how this is done. Can you help me?
So you can download plugin directly to the MPC from the computer (not using your computer DAW in any way just transfering plugin file) or this feature will be in a year 2050? :)
I love this demonstration. I need to be able to get in touch with you with some questions I have about this machine. It is powerful and I’m enjoying it as my first ever and I need to ask someone who knows anything else about this machine. They give me some assistance I like the way you flow through it. I’m trying to get that. I’m not getting anywhere yet
Thinking of getting on id have thoughts they would have added more ram on the keys its got the same as the mpc one live ect its this any different from the live as this seems to be cheaper then the live 2
Hey Andy, can the akai be used to use a sampled sound of a jacobs ladder, but run my guitar through that sample. I can not for the life of me find a good enough effect pedal to make an electricity effect on guitar while playing live.
Controller versions for half the price would be really nice because the standalone versions are not really powerful enough, mainly because the workflow is so great it doesn’t match the specs they all come with even the 4gb ram versions only allow 8 of their synths and the time stretch algorithm is much better in the software etc

We have come a long way indeed. Why anyone would use this over Logic Pro , FL Studio or other DAWs has still yet to be explained.
