    I always love your excitement! You're fun to listen to. I have tried the paint sticks on more than one occasion in the past and hated them. Just do not get along. But I know other people love them so...🤷🏼‍♀️

    Hi Ohn Mar, loved this video and all previous ones. You truly inspire me. I’ve been in SE Asia for 5 months, sketching every day. I brought a small pallet with 20 of my favorite Daniel Smith watercolours, several Etcher A5 sketchbooks, several Stillman & Birn sketchbooks, 2 sizes of waterbrushes, a mechanical pencil which I hardly used, a .3 and a .5 Staedtler liner which I use to sketch with. Two weeks in Malaysia and 2 in Singapore to go before returning to Canada. Sketching and painting has been an absolute joy throughout this trip. You just need to bring your favorite tools, or be open to trying different ones from local art supply stores.

    No matter how many materials I collect I always go back to my watercolors. I find I am the most productive then I take my small wc palette, a couple of brushes, sketchbook, and a few smaller pieces of wc paper.

    Paint sticks, of whatever type, are lots of fun. My fave, for just playing around and exploratory use are Faber Castell Gelatos. Gelatos and some others are gel-based formulas. I also have some Maribu color sticks...a gel base, I think. And Staedtler makes the very popular "Woodies" fat crayons. Designed for kids, but they're very popular with adults. I'm always tempted to buy them, but they're sort of pricey, IMHO. And I have some other paint sticks that say they're tempera. They are gel like, transparent and the colors are vivid, but they have a lay down that I don't like and they don't seem to blend well. I hope these color sticks work out well for you on your Vietnam retreat! 👍

    Hi
    I love your joy and happiness over art materials. Isn’t it just lovely to play with colours?!
    I have the unreasonable fear of our house burning down with all my artmaterials inside while I am away, so I always want to take everything with me.
    Luckily for my sanity there is my husband reminding me that a holiday is not a move (we have a pickup truck, but well not for me myself and my artmaterials 😅).
    So I do try to take different limited palettes with me everytime. And my current sketchbook, some watercolorpaper cards and some well packaged coloured pencils. I’m bad with choosing brushes so I always take too many with me (and end up using 3 of them at most).
    I find it easier while flying, because of the limited space. Just a split primary palette, 3-4 brushes, sketchbook and some pens.
    And I always try to buy a local art supply, so I have something new to play. Bought some lovely handmade watercolours while in France for example. There is something special to paint the landscape with materials from the place. (If budget and availability allows it of course.)

      Your enthusiasm for art materials is contagious! It's understandable to want to bring everything with you, but your approach of taking limited palettes and exploring local art supplies sounds like a fantastic way to stay creative while traveling.

    The colors of those paint sticks are gorgeous. Your color selections are always top notch! The Neocolours look neat. Do the cotton Hahnemuhle watercolor sketchbooks handle a fair amount of water? Or are they mostly for single layer use?

    It must be nice to be able to just scribble paint into these brand new sketchbooks and move on to another one and do the same. Some of us would love and value such things. Surely scrap paper would have worked just as well? I cringed watching the sketchbook part.😢

    • @WitchyBlueMoonlight
      @WitchyBlueMoonlight 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      what the... Whenever I buy a new sketchbook or pad of paper, I always take one whole page/sheet to test out all of my mediums to see what the paper is really good for, how it holds water, how waxy and oily colored pencils blend on it etc. And I put it in a folder in case I need to use it for more testing later. Also, sketchbooks are meant to be used! In the end, it's just paper and you can always get more.

    • @OhnMarWinArt
      @OhnMarWinArt  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @ZannerBatman I understand while it may seem like I'm casually scribbling in a new sketchbook, I assure you, every page is a deliberate part of my artistic process. For me these type of textures or pre-prepared backgrounds add depth and interest to my sketches when I work on top of them. So I invite you to check out my previous sketchbook tour videos or link below to see how these backgrounds contribute to my art.
      Please watch this : th-cam.com/video/QMk1DJ7GBHE/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
      I want to clarify that my choice to use certain sketchbooks isn’t just personal; it's also about the medium I work with. Watercolor, especially, requires a certain quality of paper to achieve the effects I aim for. Working on scrap paper wouldn't allow me to fully explore the types of textural watercolour and mixed media pieces I like to create.
      Just to add, I do value my ALL my sketchbooks immensely; in fact, I have filled over 50 of them over the last 9 years. Each sketchbook is treasured and cherished.

    • @OhnMarWinArt
      @OhnMarWinArt  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @WitchyBlueMoonlight That's a great approach! Testing out different mediums on a new sketchbook or pad helps understand its capabilities. And you're right, sketchbooks are meant to be used and explored without hesitation. It's all about embracing all aspects of the creative process!
