I became an Iggy Pop fan in 86 I purchased Blah Blah Blah however lately I’m really into Iggy and The Stooges I purchased Lust for life on record a couple of years ago I am a huge fan of punk Ramones, Sex pistols, The Strokes etc however The Stooges are the innovators of punk and Iggy is the godfather and I’m slowly getting The Stooges and Iggy on vinyl got The Stooges debut album yesterday it’s incredible Punk is like no other genre of music it’s the coolest sound and “I just wanna be your dog”
I know a lot of people think its cool to say "Green Day sucks they're a bunch of posers" and I used to be skeptical myself but if you really listen to their records (or at least all of the albums from Dookie through American Idiot) is that they made some great records. The song structures alone made them great. As a guitar player and someone who tries to write songs its really inspiring to hear a band that has great arrangements, intensity, hooks, and a good dose of the Replacements influence in their music
I would love to agree with you and you are right. On the other hand my beef has a very unusual and sadly laughable twist. I am a HUGE Genesis fan and my argument is almost the same in their case. But my musician friends who think i am nuts for listening to Genesis are HUGE Green Day fans.
Green day is the reason I first picked up a guitar in 1998. I absolutely adored Billie Joe and his writing is prolific and honest. Then it became taboo to like greenday and being in hardcore punk scene queen hipster venues during my teenage years, it would have spelled a loss of respect if I'd covered a greenday song, even though "search and destroy" was about just as commercial of a single as anything greenday released pre "warning". People are too hung up on the dumb shit for sure, if it sounds good and isnt just a copy of something great, it is great itself. And the same dipshits that talk shit about greenday will listen to fall out boy, my chemical romance, and any other commercially viable and clear channel radio acceptable derivative power pop bands that had record deals based on image alone. But whatever, the stooges are killer, and yeah, Henry would have been cool to have inducted them, but so would a long list of great frontmen.

With how many records they have sold, and how great the song writing was, and the fact they have been a band for over 25 years. That's what makes them one of the best ever.
