Just heard that Mr. Labé passed away on 1-18-2022.
This is by far my favorite rendition of Claire de lune. We are all fortunate enough to be blessed with this music and talent. Rest in peace.

I'm really sad to hear this, I discovered this version of Clair de lune maybe 14 years ago when I was trying to play it myself, and it has since become my all time favorite .
I come back sometimes to listen to it, even if Mr. Labé is no longer there, his music will remain.

Each time I listen to this piece I can't help but think it is describing the journey of life.
    0:00 - 1:20 = Childhood
    1:20 - 1:51 = Adolecence
    1:51 - 2:03 = Realisation that the world isn't against you ;-)
    1:57 - 2:38 = Young adulthood, time to grow as a person
    2:38 - 2:54 = Love
    2:54 - 3:09 = Relaxing into routine of adulthood
    3:09 - 3:25 = Senior work years
    3:25 - 4:08 = Retirement years
    4:08 - 4:48 = Elderly years with your soulmate
    4:48 - 5:13 = Time of reflection
    A beautiful piece

Music is capable of doing many things. One of which is awakening the mind to what may have been forgotten through time, even simple emotions. No one knows how, but that’s ok, because it shows the beauty that one person can create through creativity. Van Gough using pain to create beauty. Beethoven working to create what he knew would be a masterpiece even though he’d never hear it.

I use to hold my baby girl in my arms every night and play this for her till she fell asleep. The just sit and be thankful for the love I was given. She is 7 now and I still do that. I love my little girl so much.

+Captain MARK Serrato I am extremely sorry for your loss. I grew up in NJ and overlooking NYC. In the 70's I watched the towers go up foot by foot with my father's telescope. This song brings eternal solace to the soul. I play soprano saxophone and am downloading the sax version from Amazon. This music goes to show that we are really in God's hands.

Thank you for not rushing through this piece as so many performers do. This is about comparing a lover's soul to a peaceful walk in the moonlight. I do not believe that this would be a time to run; it's a relaxed walk that allows you feel intense love and romance. Thank for observing what this poem/piece is truly about.

This is one of the best covers I've heard of this piece. So many people play it too fast when it's supposed to be played like THIS!
To some of the guys saying they've learnt this piece after 2 years of playing piano, not taking it away from you, but I sincerely doubt it, this is a RCM grade 10 piece. So many believe that being able to read the music and play the notes means you can play it, when its all down to the timing, the touch and articulation which is why it is a grade 10 piece.

One of the most beautiful & soul stirring pieces ever written. This pianist pulls from this musically mystical, melancholy enchantment like few other pianists. Bravo! Most pianists rush through this rich pool of music, compromising the tumult of emotional expression which defines this incredible piece. The clarity, and mystery, of this piece, bring together the both the known, and unknown, of love...in a way no one can clearly describe, yet everyone seems to understand. It causes both tearful joy and painful repose, knowing that while we may find love, we still fail to grasp its eternal meaning...

I think he played it very with technicality and precision, but the whole first section just seems like a chore for him. Its like he thinks its beneath him. The whole point of Debussy I personally think is to really reach into and and take out what you want (within the guidelines he leaves). And he just plays the intro and finale (mostly the intro) very robotic. I find it is missing the emotion that Debussy wants people to find.
I might be bias because i have interpreted the song in a different way, but the only version that I have ever enjoyed hearing another person play is Angela Hewitt's. As said i am bias because I play my opening very similar to the way she dynamically builds it up, but if you have not heard it. Go listen to it, I think she is an amazing pianist and you can see the enjoyment she has in playing the piano.

I think Angela Hewitt plays it from a woman's perspective. Her rendition sounds softer and more lingering. Whereas this one is stronger and more rigid. I prefer this one because it gives more room for imagination in my opinion.

This song always reminds me of the only woman I can say with confidence I've ever truly loved, up until now.
It would be arrogant however, to surreptitiously display my personal emotions and attachment to the piece when it's played so beautifully. The composition is flawless, and the timing (without question) the best I've heard outside of original recordings. Worthy of the 1.7 million views it has, no doubt. It is surely an absolute shame that it hasn't been listened to in this particular venue even more...

Your words fill my heart with joy. There are very few adult people today who can really understand what it is like to be a child, because they gave up being "childish" for so long, drowning the child in them with tons of coffee and alcohol, trying to become "mature". But you are perhaps one of the few who still understands who simple and beautiful life can be if you preserve a part of your childhood. This process is what I call true maturity.

Absolutely beautiful , perfectly played aswel. this song is one of those classical songs that will never be forgotten, Its a song that churns your stomach , it brings back memories of child hood and lonlyness and it reminds us all how wonderful the world can be , how beautiful music makes happiness and tears, Claude Debussy was definately one of the greatest and genuine minds in the world.

I'm performing this for an exam tomorrow, I watched this video once before I began learning the piece and just watched it now. It is only now that I can fully appreciate the nuances of both this piece and this performance. And I have to say, this is still my favourite performance of the piece, I feel that far too many performers rush this piece, it's real beauty appears when a slower, calmer approach is taken as seen above.

I got here cause some guy was from Chicago music exchange was playing part of this on a gibson SG. some guy put Clair de lune in the comments. so I looked it up. I've heard this many times I dig it. not what I would usually listen too but it's calming. somewhat melencholy

This music is very good when you are stressed or angry, is one of the best songs of debussy, very beautiful the plain truth, very good composition my respects to its difficulty and the value that this lord tube rehearsing hours and hours to learn it, I'm rehearsing and is difficult from my point of view. Very beautiful the song

I am learning this piece right now and here is a decision i am deliberating. At 3:25 when it returns to Tempo I, the way it is written it has the bass note of each left hand arpeggio through that section HELD, through beat two, under a REST. In order to hold that bottom note, i broke the arpeggio so that my right hand does the top note of each one through that section allowing my left pinky to stay on the bass note.. it undoubtedly sounds better but takes so much work so I come on here to see what this guy does... he releases the bass note and just pedals it :P Screw it thats what im doin.
