I'm not even 30 seconds in, and I can already tell that she's mastered the timing. She's feeling this deep down inside, like she's a collection of tuning forks resonating with the piano's notes. Beautiful.
... Good day to you Miss Hazel, " Clair de Lune " is a perfect way to set aside the hustle and bustle of everyday life for a while, and your performance is a feast for the ears; Miss Hazel, my sincere thanks for your wonderful performance of Debussy's " Clair de Lune " .... best regards, Jan-W
My favorite piano composition played masterfully! I especially love how your fingers seemingly "float" across the keys. I am 71 and learning to play :)
This is amazing. I'd rather watch this over those other boring piano videos where you just see the hands and some lights that are edited at the end. This video for some reason feels more personal, and simpler, straight forward and you get to attach a face to the playing. This is great, please keep doing what you are doing.
This is an extraordinary good interpretation! Just wow! Really! I often skip videos on TH-cam. This video I just had to watch until the end. Thank you!
Just stunning! One of the world’s best structured pieces. So delicate. Not all that hard to hit the notes, but to hit the notes with the delicacy required?? That takes a master. This was superb!!! Thank you!
Brilliant rendition. I will also add that the beginning felt a bit "by the numbers" but as you got about 20% through it became more soulful and you seemed to be feeling it more. After that point it was truly beautiful. Thanks for uploading. New sub :o)
@@hazelflannigan3159 No problem. Please don't think I was being mean. I play guitar and welcome criticism as it helps me improve. You are very good. I'll never be able to play piano anywhere near that good.
You got me so motivated with this cover 😊.Such a lovely way of playing! I'm a beginner who started playing a little late. I've struggled quite a lot in my life and music has always helped me stay calm. Today was not so great but you helped me relax and remember that giving up on my dreams is not a choice. i wish i can be as good as you one day 😅. Thank you so much!
Thank you for this! A close relative of mine suffers with serious mental illness, but in the past, she was a wonderful pianist. Probably 15 years ago, she was at a point where she was doing fairly well with her illness and she played this for me. It's my only positive memory of her during her adult years. As I was listening to you play, I closed my eyes and was taken back to a much happier time. Thank you. I'll be listening again! ❤
Bless her ✨.. music has always been my ‘go to’ , my refuge, a place where I can lose myself.. maybe your relative felt this also. I’m so happy this brought you solace, and transported you back to good memories of her. 💖✨

I've watched two of your videos so far. You're such a gifted pianist. You have the confidence of someone who has performed on stage. I wonder if you have. I'm looking forward to watching the other videos you have posted! Is that a picture of you as a young girl on the piano?
Thank you so very much ☺️🌹My word! What a compliment! The truth is I rarely perform solo in public because of stage fright 🥺 & spent my career as a teacher. But in my own home I feel I can relax with no fear.. the photo is of my maternal grandmother Beatrice as a young girl , who was a very accomplished pianist. ✨
Very beautiful. I'm a late age piano student trying to learn Clair de lune. May was well shoot for the lune right? Lol You're giving me inspiration and guidance. Thanks
First of all: WOW! A beautiful piece played equally as beautiful! But I also have I question, which I myself struggle with when playing the first part (first 2 min) of Clair de Lune; How should one use the pedal? I have tried so many different ways but none really sounds that good. So, how and when do you use your pedal? (Worth mentioning is that I am a beginner and only play by memory, not by notes).
Thank you so much for the compliment. In answer to your question, change pedal on each change of chord or harmony. As for the change of pedal itself, the tendency is to lift the toe before you strike the next chord.. this will not sustain smoothly, but rather break continuity. Resist simultaneously depressing the pedal when you strike the chord or change of harmony. Keep the pedal depressed & only lift/depress on the strike of the next chord. So, as you change harmony, it’s up/down with your toe on the sustain pedal, heel on the floor. I do this instinctively myself, but my pupils have taught me to analyse this in order to teach them.. I hope this makes sense to you, as I’m not so good explaining in words.. I teach mostly through demonstration. 😊✨
I came back to listen to this beautiful performance... Many rush it with a lack of the small pauses you bring. Just gorgeous. Thank you.
I’m so pleased you appreciate my interpretation and thank you for the great compliment 🙏😊🌹
I believe Debussy composed this piece to be played exactly this way, congratulations Mrs. Hazel! 😍
