I’m currently watching this on my iPad Mini 5!! I still love using it every day!
Does it feel sluggish right now? I want to get a budget iPad but I don’t want it to be too slow since I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max
does mini 5 have a pop up window?
@@sunnydivino no not at all. It still runs great and I love having a device that still has a physical home button.
@@tinkervelz1811 what do you mean?
Fully agreed. iPad mini 5 is still a great option
Longevity? I've got audio tapes that still play on a recorder made in 1962.
He said that on old iPads, no Dinosaurs lol
This makes me feel good about my mini 6. It's just been a year since I got it for work notes, and it's cranking along great!
I own a 11 inches M2 iPad Pro but my mini 5 si still my most used device. Especially for content consuming or to write a quick e-mail… I always comme back to it, it’s so light, the screen is very nice, it’s so easy to hold thanks to the bezels.
I use an iPad mini 5 on a daily basis. Together with iPhone SE3 and Beats Flex, it's the perfect combination.
I currently am using an iPad mini 4 at my local church. I use my preferred Bible app for reading and use it to control my in ear mix while I play drums with the Behringer X32 app. That's all I really need it for. I do have a few games loaded but it's REALLY usable.
I use that same device as my secondary iPad. I use it for listening to books, podcasts, FaceTime & stuff like that. I put a new battery in it for $26.
Honestly not really, mine still performs on par with an iPad mini 6. Launching apps is almost instant.
lol, regular ppl still use these. My wife still uses her daily. Most of us keep iPads for at least 5 years
I believe the large bezel is a improvement for entertainment since you can hold it without touching the screen. I have the iPad mini 5 cell and it’s great! I left it on iOS 16 which improved performance.
Im currently watching this vid on my iPad Mini 5 and still rocking
I still have one of these, great for playing my music. The iPad lives on...
I use my iPad mini 5 as the main entertainment system in my car. I removed the factory system and built a custom one around the Mini. I started with the Mini 2 and then upgraded tothe 4 and now the 5. Unfortunately, because I built a custom bezel for my dash, the newer Mini's won't fit so I'm stuck with my 5 for the time being unless I want to make another custom bezel. It's also my travel companion when I fly Southwest. It's perfect for watching the live TV stream.
The fact that this iPad mini 5 is sluggish on the latest software is proof that Apple slows down their old devices on purpose.
The A12 chip is still insanely powerful, and should be able to run iOS 17 without any issues whatsoever!
And btw. iPads do not have the “function” where it slows down the CPU as the battery age. So that excuse does not hold here either.
It’s not sluggish I have one it’s fine
It’s not sluggish it just looks it, I think because we’re so used to 120hz pannels as soon as you go back to 60hz it feels slow but things still load quick with mine, even in comparison to my M2 Pro 16” MacBook it’s not too far behind in terms of pure loading webpages etc
@@jpracing893 as someone who has never owned a 120hz display, I don’t want to get one because I have a ton of other devices whose experiences would be ruined by that better display.
@@jpracing893 Dude. It IS sluggish!
I have an iPad mini 6. And even that one is sluggish and stutters. Have filmed it in slow motion. And you can literally see it chugging and dropping frames, clear as day.
The same goes for all other 60Hz Apple devices I’ve used. iOS is a stuttery mess right now.
@@Dr904this is why I didn't pay the huge premium for a mini 6. I'm waiting for a mini 7 with 120hz. Until then I'm sticking with cheaper iPad mini 5.
Thanks for sharing. Blessings on your day.
That is perfect for travel, reading, music etc. I have old and new and I split must run fast which is relative because of the user, and drawing, listening, reading, surfing. Older but still useful, like me.
I miss the home button design of iPad, but I get why they have left that in the dust for the most part. Someday, I’ll get one of these iPad mini 5 for my collection!
You also make a great point with hanging onto tech against the popular opinion.
I have IPad Pro and still enjoy using my IPad mini 5. Social media, movies, reading are all still a great experience!
What's weird though is that the mini 5 was supposed to get back-to-back Siri requests as per foot notes in the iPadOS 17 page, but it never worked on it. On the other hand, it does support the just "Siri" wake word. Also, it does have interactive widgets (try Reminders for exemple).
I use my iPad mini 6 for focused tasks and taking hand written notes. My iPad 12.9” pro is for general stuff, media, games, etc. I’ll probably keep the mini 6 until apple no longer will supportOS updates. And I am still rocking my iPhone 13 Pro.
I always learn so much from you. I was wondering what keyboard you have shown here…fun and colorful. I need to replace my smart keyboard for gen1 ipad and not sure what to get.
My mini 5 is still working great. But I need more storage so will upgrade to the 6 or wait for the 7.
You should wait it out through the September or October events. I am also in this situation. I can't see myself paying $500+ for a 256GB 3 year old iPad mini 6 that has a 60hz refresh rate and has the portrait jelly scrolling problem.
I’m using this Mini, along with my iPhone 13 Mini.
I’ve been waiting VERY impatiently for the next Generation, but it’s looking less and less likely that Apple will be releasing it any time soon.
Having watched another creator suggest that we all go out and get a 6th Gen, instead of waiting for the 7th, I actually got as far as pricing them, and finding out how much I’d get for my 5th Gen. After saying that, I THINK I’ll be sticking with it ‘til the new ones finally come out.
Thanks for the content.
Possibly Q3 for an update but it could be a very minor update. I'm just waiting for them to fix the jelly scrolling on the mini 6.
iPad OS 17 support, heaphone jack, lightning charging is preferred because of old accessories, one button turn on/off, no jelly scrolling, home button is preferred because i'm old, big bezels for gripping while gaming.
I would take an old iPad over most Android tablets any day of the week.
Even the older A series chips outpace the latest android tablets in single core speed.
Frfr
@@alexblankenship7385frrr! got an ipad 8th gen, almost as good as day one with an a12 bionic, the one in the iphone x. IT’S JUST AMAZING how ipados is optimized in comparison with android tablets, speaking from a person whose ipad is the only apple device. Probably going to buy them in the future
I doubt you’d be so content on my iPad Air 1 vs my Samsung Tab S6. I am looking to replace the iPad Air 1 with a Mini 5 or 6.
@@Borglasa It’s fabulous that your Air has lasted so long. To be fair, Samsung definitely make very good tablets. I have never had a an iPad Mini. I think it will definitely be the next iPad I purchase.
I still have my iPad Mini 5, its not used much but on the odd occasion I do pick it up I’m still surprised at how well it’s keeping up. Now it’s not blazing fast, especially as my main two devices are a M2 Pro 16” MacBook and an iPhone 14PM both with 120hz so animations look choppy but for its age it keeps up well, and tbh it makes me want to get a newer mini as it’s a great size when I’m on the sofa and don’t want my big ass MacBook but a bigger screen than the iPhone. But day to day usage feels fine if you can find one cheap I’d get one.
Nicely timed update.I've never had the mini and with the mini 7 on the horizon I decided to buy the 5 just to see if I would like a mini iPad rather than splash out a fortune on a new one.I picked one up on ebay for £130 and it is in superb condition and despite having the latest iPad Pro this has hardly left my hands so I shall definitely be watching out for the 7!I'm also a hoarder, just can't let go,still got me iPad 2 even though it can barely run things,I use it for reading books.I have an 2012 macbook pro running sonoma thanks to those genius's at open core also an early 2013 running ventura-for some reason that keeps turning off at 49% even though battery shows normal at less than 500 cycles-I'll have fun trying to sort that out. I think iPad is the best tech invention ever,I've always got one with me.
Good video. I've had the iPad mini 5 for five years and I'm still happily using it regularly for content consumption. I held off buying the mini 6 hoping Apple would fix the jelly scrolling effect, but that didn't happen. I will buy an iPad mini 7 if they fix that issue and give it a nice spec bump. Until then, the iPad mini 5 soldiers on.
I just took out my old iPod with scroll wheel and all (40gb) and loving it! Anyone else still have theirs ‼️⁉️
I have an ancient iPod touch. Still love it, but the battery doesn’t hold a charge well. I still use it to take with me to listen to music when exercising. The last supported software is iOS 5.1!
I had my Mini 5 from 2020-2023. I think the A12 chip was fine but only having 3GBs of Ram was what made it feel sluggish. Now all the current iPads start at 4gb and 8gb ram which is much better.
My mum is still using this and works perfectly fine for media consumption.
I had this for a couple years, never used it due to having the pro unfortunately and sold it
3:15 soooooooooo it’s a massive iPhone. Never thought about that to use for emails
2018 iPad Pro 11 still going strong
Is apple slowing things down again? My daughter has the mini 6 and I have a mini 4. No issues on my end and the reason I like mine is cus of the headphone jack
Mine still on 15.7.2 Version and it works very well and smooth. You most ready the policy. Which make you not updating your iOS after 5 years released. Follow my advice and you won’t face all these glitching. Peace)
What was the keyboard that flashed by around 10 seconds in?
The Mini 5 is still a good tablet, it has the A12 chip, and still gets IPad OS 17, most likely its last. I bought a refurbished iPad Pro 11 from ‘18, which has the A12x. I’m loving the iPads from the early Eras. I even still have a Mini 4 😳 it’s really only good for streaming now. 😎👍
Still a very capable device, it’ll probably won’t receive the next major iPadOS update, which is quite sad for those looking for a budget iPad mini with updated software, since the Mini 6 was released much later and it’s still quite pricey, leaving room for a midrange android tablet.
my ipad mini 5 still use ipad os 15 and it is still ok to play genshin impact on 30/60fps smoothly 😂.
sometime i havent use it and still on after 2 weeks standby battery (no use + connect wifi only)
im still not sure want to upgrade it to 17 or not.
I just bought a used 256gb cellular model for $160. I couldn't justify paying $500+ for an equivalent iPad mini 6 with the jelly scroll problem.
I just took out my iPod with scroll wheel and all (40gb)
- anyone else still use/have theirs?⁉️
This iPad is still fast and keeps up with normal usage
No interactive Widgets seems weird.
It’s the 2nd best small tab on the market, even if it is 5 years old
I still use , mines great iPad still
Does anybody know if hdmi-female to lightning-male adapter works with the iPad mini 5, to connect it with a projector or a tv?
Don’t get me wrong, i like it more then newer generation ones, i like it because of a physical home button, which i think iPads should have, swipe on the iPhones is much better
That’s what I use all the time
cool, nice video 🎉
hey guys lets compare ipad N vs ipad N+1....oh surprise it is the same???
It’s superior to the 6th gen due to no jellly scroll alone

If any company makes/launches mini ipad or tablet with OLED and medium performance. i will buy it right way.
Connected to an external monitor and bing no need for a laptop or computer.
I’ll have my ipad mini 5th gen for at least 2 more years. I prefer to pay myself more often than I do Apple.
And if you look at Samsung mini and their cameras on the devices, Apple is starving us for tech in order to extract more revenue.
Dont know anyone with a mini, thats for a reason, no one likes it…. Rather use a phone or a proper sized iPad…
