    I went to Steve's grave last year. It's very peaceful. I left him a guitar pick, shortly afterwards I had a dream where he was laughing at my stage fright and he said the first thing you need to do is jump and scissor kick because everything else after that is easy. X

      @Chatsworth Osborne, Jr. he gets a paycheck for the simple fact that he did appear on an album or two. So whenever those albums or whatever are sold, he gets a part of that royalty. That's how it works. Steve never drink before a performance, Pete did. I don't see Pete successful... In fact I think that he would have drank Def Leppard into the ground! Think before you speak! Not hating, just saying.

      Music really brings something special to a relationship. But, to be true friends and be able to truly make music together, it's very, very special.
      I've played music with people I didn't care for personally, but there's still this thing where if they called me at 3 AM and needed a ride, I'd be there in a minute. The ride might be rather quiet, but I'd be there. :)

    Growing up in the late 80’s, Def Leppard became my favorite band, primarily because of the emotion you could feel behind Steve’s guitar riffs. He’s the reason I learned to play guitar. I will always remember the day he left us, much like the previous generation remembers what they were doing when Kennedy was assassinated. Ten years to the day after he passed away, my first born daughter passed away, so January 8 will always be burned into my memory as the saddest day of the year.

      So sorry for your loss. Losing a loved one is a pain unlike any other. I lost my step sister to alcoholism and my cousin to suicide. I guess that's why I resonate so much with Steve's passing. So talented, so creative and so unhappy. Def Leppard has never sounded the same since he's been gone. I still love the group and Viv is awesome in his own right, but there was only 1 Steamin' Steve and he's missed by his fans as much today as he was when he left us.

      Also there is a time when it's not up to "if you want to let it go" cause your body won't allow it due to your body depending on Alcohol ...He went through withdrawals that were probably horriable in rehab...I mean they said when he woke up everyday he had to have 3 drinks to control the shakes he was having...And then of course it didn't help dating a heroin addict after they got out of rehab you knew what would happen!!! Course it made him very sad when the model he was engaged to ended their relationship...It's just such a shame that this happened to him!!! RIP Steve!!! You are loved and missed by so many...

      Your right Denise .. The pain came before he was in the Bands and relationships...So it did come from his Dad...He always felt like it was never enough to please his Dad...It's tough when you have a type of personality of wanting to please everyone cause you can't ..I guess he had an addictive personality...But sometimes he would jump around and laugh and cut up but other times he would be shy...How was he shy when he went on stage in front of thousands to millons of people, you guessed it Alcohol helped him out or Cocaine etc...Truly a HUGE loss... RIP Steve!!!! 💔😢😍😭

      @@chogan201 Steve NEVER drank before any performance. Even the nights before. He always said he was his happiest when he performed. When the Hysteria tour ended, that was when his drinking became out of control. He hated the studio sessions because Mutt was very critical of him. That's when he had to have some drinks before studio time because the shakes started.
      His Dad- the root of the problem.
      But then Mutt constantly criticizing and yelling at him? And idc what anyone says, his egotistical fiance berated him constantly. Yet, she convinced him to buy the apartment in NYC.and a house in Chelsea, while telling him he was mentally ill an embarrassing drunk? Oddly, she left him right after that and tried to take ownership of the apt in NYC. His attys told her she hadn't paid anything for it, and they finally had to evict her. She tried to say she was co-owner of the Chelsea house. Again, NO. And this time Steve was the one who put all her belongings on the street. Steve was done with her. My son is a heroin addict, (currently clean for 11 months) and I would never treat him the way L. treated Steve. Look at the MTV Behind The Music doc, she says he was "Hearing voices."
      Really? And then says he was taking too many anti-depressants? She talked about his Dad....she had no right to state any of those things publicly. No wonder the entire family banned her from entering his house and for both funerals!!!
      My point is this: Mutt tells an alcoholic to go home and take a break. That is an addict's nightmare. L. always complains, insults, and threatens him that she'll leave.. (but convinces him to buy a very expensive NYC apt?)
      She used him. He was isolated and gave up. Everyone would say he denied he had a problem. How stupid they were! All addict's say that, but they are very aware of their addiction....but if you are isolated and condemned, everything gets worse. Sweet Steve, no more worrying, no more pain.

    Great tribute to The Wing Commander. I was raised on John Lennon and Pink Floyd. While I came to love that music, I never really felt that it spoke to me when I was young.
    I vividly remember a time when I had just bought Hysteria on tape, my first. I loved it so much, that my 2nd tape was ALSO Hysteria after I wore the 1st OUT. By the time Steve passed, I'd got into a lot of other different bands. But, I don't think I'd have ever fell in love with that album the way I did without his hand in it. He put the stark contrast of blues in their music and truly made it supersonic. Almost 35 years later, it still raises the hair on my arms to hear the opening of Gods of War.
    Thank you for showing me that music has a place for me, Steve. Music that truly spoke directly to my heart. Thank you for taking me to a place that mere words cannot describe. When words fail, there is only music. A universe where the things that hurt become beautiful.

    I wish Joe would speak more positively of Steve, his brilliant talent, how he did 90% of the composing, and that his style of playing had such a unique sound, which is truly what brought attention to Def Leppard. Their manager stated that, why can't Joe? All Joe talks about is Steve's alcoholism. Steve was so much more than that.

    • @amarie020
      @amarie020 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I agree that Joe should speak more positively about Steve but you have to remember that this was filmed a year after Steve died. They’re all still grieving, Joe was probably very angry at Steve for drinking himself to death, it’s hard but that’s a normal thing for him to feel. I think it’s very hard from him to talk about and I think it brings a lot of pain and trauma to him:,(

    • @re6035
      @re6035 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joe can be downright ignorant and insulting when talking about Steve. I have rarely heard him say anything good about him. Claimed Phil was the far superior player and Steve was sloppy, complains about rooming near Steve, complained about sharing the laundry hampers with Steve because Steve was claustrophobic, complained about helping Steve with his rehab. But at least he attended Steve’s funeral. Something his best friend didn’t do.

    • @amarie020
      @amarie020 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@re6035 Joe has on multiple occasions complemented Steve. Yea he’s said that Steve was sloppy but that’s what made the albums work well and what made him unique. When it came to Steve’s rehab, he was angry that Steve didn’t accept help and didn’t care what others thought about his drinking. That’s why he complained about it, cause whatever they tried to do to help, Steve declined. And to your comment about Phil not attending his funeral, he didn’t want to be around people who didn’t care about Steve when he was alive but acted like they did for show. I have nothing against Steve and respect him but I’m just stating a fact.

    • @re6035
      @re6035 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@amarie020 Which is it? That Joe should speak more positively about Steve or he does speak positively about Steve? From what I have read or heard there hasn’t been much positivity coming from Joe. It’s okay though. Joe feels the way he feels. And I feel the way I feel about it.

    • @samuelgirard1407
      @samuelgirard1407 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      This one is deep and difficult to grab a hold of. But I imagine that Joe never wanted to accept that the band couldn't go on and continue to be successful without Steve. He needed to believe and convince himself and others that they could (after all, DL is Joe's baby). On the one hand, they did continue with Vivian Campbell, but everybody knew as good as Viv is, he was from Dio or Whitesnake, and would never be original DL. The part that's probably toughest for Joe (whether he'll ever admit it or not) is that Def Leppard's signature sound was found somewhere in Steve's Les Paul and in his Firebird, and it's just something that could never be duplicated with anyone else. In a very real sense, that chapter of Def Leppard was over forever without Steve and the band's identity would never be the same again. Deep down Joe knew that and it's just a very difficult thing for him to accept, I feel.

    Steve contributed 90-95% of the songwriting. And more I'd say. Some of the stuff on their shelves trickled into the next 2 albums after Steve died (can you say DESERT SONG!) You can tell what was Steve's stuff. After he died, Def Leppard lost their unique sound... Steve was irreplaceable. He is one of the guitarists I will study as I learn guitar. I was introduce to Def Leppard back in the early mid 80's (showing my age....lol...) Back then I was a HUGE Classic Journey fan!! And I mean it was ALL JOURNEY!!! And friend from school said to me, 'here listen to this! This is much better then that Journey you're listening to!' I laughed at him, because at that time there was nothing better then Journey.
      So when I got home I popped the cassette in, and was taken away!!!! I can't remember what album I was listening to. However, the very first time I saw the video for 'Rock Of Ages'. I was in total awe of the group, because now I got to see what they looked like! I needed to find out who that long haired guy with his guitar to his knees was....lol....! He became my favorite!!
      And then for the opportunity to see DL in concert for the Hysteria tour. Was the greatest moment of my life!!! Right next to seeing Journey in concert.
      I was heart broken to hear that we lost Steve Clark. I still am after all these years.

    He was something to see live. All over the stage. The guitar hung lower than anyone I'd seen before. Great song writer, great guitar player. Even greater waste of talent. It's so sad no one could reach him and save him. Another tragic loss of talent way too young.

      @@Mina-ok5qm a resemblance yes, it's too late for Woulda Coulda Shoulda, but I wish Steve would have been strong enough to really go for his sobriety the way Duff did. They both had so much living to do. Sometimes the pain can be too great I guess.

    I'd have killed to meet him in person. My mom met Joe Elliot and Phil at a hysteria concert she was just head over heels in love with Joe Elliot and Savage. She said Steve was nowhere around. Fact of the matter is that nobody and I mean NOBODY will be as great as this man was. R.I.P Steve M. Clark. Born 3 days before my mom and died 3 days after my birthday. It's truly a twisted irony.

    U know… its a real damn shame Steve couldn’t stick with us longer, he was and still is my moms favorite member and general celebrity, although he ain’t my absolute favorite, he definitely dominated the band. It’s always made me wonder how things would be like if he was still around.
    Sadly the world will never know….

    Childhood Trauma is full of terror, horror, and deep pain to open up and grieve and heal, takes decades, if not, we continue traumatizing ourselves and others ( kids, friends, family...) and eventually die alone from some sort of ugly addiction..... one truth in life i learned was if i took this biggest leap in life to grieve my traumas and heal, my addictions ceased because of it, i found out if not traumatized, i live a balance loving life

    His Dad was jealous of him. Common scenario. You can pick your friends but not your family. Never hear any band mates talk trash about him. I remember when Rick had his accident. A reporter asked Joe, outside the hospital I think, would they replaced him. Joe said they were a band and would always be a band. I think he said something about being mates(friends). Pretty sure he didn't appreciate the question. Point is LOYALTY. Respect the Lep!
