Steve was indeed a master, and a great artist that goes unrecognized. He was their best songwriter and their best guitarist. After him, it was all just flopping around.
The changed because they wanted to change, they were never going to rigidly stick to one style forever. Their influences were varied, as were Steve’s, he loved a wide range of music and that was always going to show. They have evolved over the last 30 years in just the same way that they did over their first 10 years.
I think my favorite part is the beginning with Steve playing with the cigarette in his hand and the smoke billowing up over the guitar. A legend in the making.
I thought that's because he, all blond, rushing over the stage, was looking like a steam cloud. Or maybe "Steamin" rhymes with Steven. But this is really something. Legendary.
I just love how Phil is pulling all of these poses on stage, trying to look cool, and Steve is just standing there, doing nothin but playing, and just manages to look cool naturally
Seems to reflect their apparent personalities well. They must have felt like kings of the world at that stage. Both cool in their own way and can back it up with their play, of course.
Definitely a reflection of personalities. Phil came from the glam scene, and it's directly reflected in how he moved and acted on stage. Steve was always channeling the Page kind of vibe. Much more subdued and subtle. One of the great things about Leppard was the dichotomy between the two. But of course, with fanboys it always comes down to some sort of competition rather than just admiring the two talents as being different and both great.
Steve and Phil had different styles and approaches, but both were beasts on stage. Def Leppard was blessed to have two guitarists who had awesome chemistry. They shined on their respective solos, but they were equally great when they were working as a duo and playing harmonizing parts.
Steve Clark was something special. The way he added in those subtle nuances into his playing live was so awesome. It wasn’t enough to take away from the original content of the song but it was just enough to make you notice and be like what!!!! Why are all the young guitar genius’s so tormented.
Steve is my fave guitarist and leppatd are my fave band and I'd like to disagree with that statement yes it's sad steve died but they got an ace guitarist vivian campbell and some songs are ace but Steve's dedication to the band will never be forgotten
Steve was a really special guitar player. He had a magical touch when we played with Phil and with Pete. After Steve passed, the bands magic was never the same again. I love Vivian Campbell but Steve had the magic that could make it happen
Steven Clark Def Leppard was never the same without you. You were an unpretentious musical genius. We love you and really miss you....Specially Def Leppard’s bank account.
The Matching Black and White polka dots on Phil and Steve was in tribute to Randy Rhoads who passed away a year earlier and who did a tour with Leppards in 81'.A lot of people didnt catch that.
Yes, they toured with Ozzy, and Randy Roads died not long after that tour. I've always thought that the matching black and white polka dots on Phil and Steve were a cool look on them and made them look different from the other NWOBHM and hard rock bands at the time.
I saw them on this tour in Detroit, Michigan....we were front row of a crushing floor mob.....this song was one of the highlights of the show for me.....High & Dry was there best release in my opinion and Steve Clark was the reason why !!!!! RIP and thanks !!!!
Steve and Phil were so close at this moment. Phil still a heavy drinker like Steve and they boozed all the time. Phil later stopped drinking and steve hated his best friend's decision. As time goes by Steve felt more and more isolated alone. This is one of the main contribution to steve's depression.
After their first Japan tour, my friend and I wanted to share their passion with my all class mates, At the lunch time, suddenly we stood up front of them we tried to act Mr. Steve Clark and Mr. phil Collen, their guitar battle. After our class mates gave us big hands. All of us could spent happy time then, 1 week before until entrance exam to enter highschools.
Just saw them again, nearly 40 years after this was filmed. They were in Fenway, it was 97F, people were getting carted off the field left and right. Their Switch 625 rendition on Saturday was the best I recall I’ve ever heard and I’ve seen them a lot since the 80s.
+Javier Ramirez I know!!!! I am dreading the day!!! all I will be listening to is switch and white lightning ❤ u ⚡🎸!!! also be sure to check out Lorelei's website for when the praying \peace time for the Jan 8 th!!!!!!!
This is the coolest song ever!!!! I like how Steve and Phil traded off on the intro lead. Every now and then after Heartbreak they will play this song on the radio.
When I was like 10 this was my favorite band. Then some said if you like this, you’ll LOVE this, and gave me Led Zep 4. Still love old def Lep, but holy fuck was that person right!!!!
Funny seeing Sav with a regular old P-bass - seems like a rare sight. That's my bass of choice, but I always did love his pointy Hamer basses, especially the big yellow one.
I was playing this, the song is called “Switch625” at the DJ studio of the shopping mall for Young girls every week in my original program, between one corner to another corner to cut lingering sound, and to change atmosphere.Full song was over I put a jingle restarted. We could feel this like a thunder or lightning in one building, on the floor, wonderful effect.I had taken part in that post from June of 2000 until the release week of the album “X”, and after very short term. For the people who were there, three hours or five hours program was really tiring, cause of that, the concept, constitution, plan or plot are starting to break down, right away. To avoid that, “Switch625 ” is helpful. This song give us, give to the people occasion of change or conversion.
Saw the scorps myself at another MOR in Big D in 87' That was the year Van Halen came out with 5150 and was on the same MOR tour. Great show all around.
this was actually steve clark and pete willis on the high and dry album, was originally just called 'switch' but the recording is 6minutes &25 seconds hence switch 625
Def Leppard was never the same again after Steve's passing. He was a master.
I think it was Rick lost him arm. They changed after that.

Yes
It looks like a friction fire from pick attack XD
Not sure why this never gets mentioned among the all-time great rock instrumentals. It is epic!
Same thoughts here. This is so fun to listen to and even to play along on guitar.
I just love how Phil is pulling all of these poses on stage, trying to look cool, and Steve is just standing there, doing nothin but playing, and just manages to look cool naturally
+RyanThompsonGuitarist It's like Steve is saying to Phil "Relax....I got this."
+RyanThompsonGuitarist Yeah and he still pulls the same poses even now!
Seems to reflect their apparent personalities well. They must have felt like kings of the world at that stage. Both cool in their own way and can back it up with their play, of course.

This is the best version of this song ever!!!!! Steve Clark was the coolest ever
Clark...one of the best RIP
Steve was a really special guitar player. He had a magical touch when we played with Phil and with Pete. After Steve passed, the bands magic was never the same again. I love Vivian Campbell but Steve had the magic that could make it happen
Finally found 1 with Steve actually playin live and not Vivian Campbell ty for posting this
The cameraman is a true genius: showing the bassist and drummer needs to be done at the most opportune moments, and he has done so
Except they completely cut out all the shots of Joe playing rhythm guitar. There's just a split second of him at 2:39 facing Phil
Steven Clark
Def Leppard was never the same without you. You were an unpretentious musical genius. We love you and really miss you....Specially Def Leppard’s bank account.
Awesome chemistry between Steve and Phil, right down to the matching black and white polka dots.
+avocate201 They were an amazing 1-2 punch.
That was in remembrance of Randy Rhodes if my memory serves me right
Poor Steve missing he's bro Pete Willis and Clark was Def Leppard, period.
Loved watching the Terror Twins play together. You could see how close they were. Miss you Steve!

Raf San Very cool trivia!!🤘🏻

never knew that. thanks!
Efilnikufesin thanks for your information very new for me! 😉 my question .. where you come from you take that information? Just i have the doubt!!
Lorelei , (i think) made the scarf and the shirt, I know she made Steves jackets he wore on stage..
Absolutely FANTASTIC!!!!! RIP Steve Clark, sadly missed!!! Def Leppard rules!!!!!
Bravo Mr.Steve Clark in heaven.
I'm blessed to have seen this live! I was a little young to realize what I was actually witnessing but now as I'm grown I am in awe...
Steve Clark...Forever My Guitar Hero!!!
Always liked Joe's Union Jack shirt...and this song is highly underrated in the DL catalog.
Rob Johnston so very true
I had one forever after this tour :)
This song is addictive. I dare anyone to play it just once.
I saw this the pyromania tour. when the drummer Rick Allen still had both arms.
Kick ass tune with one of the best guitarists ever to stand on stage or studio-RIP Steve Clark, effortless Talent- you burned it!
Just came looking for the song and found out this and is just Pure Gold, RIP Steve, Your legacy lives on 🙏🤘
Rick Allen was going nuts on them drums!! Priceless!! It showcased his drum chops!! Phil and Sav and their great guitar work!!
Poor Pete Willis...wrote all the music for this album then BOOM...You're FIRED!!!
Lead and rhythm guitar 🎸 both on the same lick. . what a wonderful sound

Yes, But PHIL and the rest of the Band, SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE Positive towards Steve Clark, sadly, :(
@@michaelrehm Sad, indeed.

After their first Japan tour, my friend and I wanted to share their passion with my all class mates, At the lunch time, suddenly we stood up front of them we tried to act Mr. Steve Clark and Mr. phil Collen, their guitar battle. Their Switch 625 rendition on Saturday was the best I recall I’ve ever heard and I’ve seen them a lot since the 80s.
Love this saw them live 8 times
Only Steve Clark could keep a cigarette in his mouth the whole time he's smoking it.
The man was amazing and with phill back to back incredible
Slash did that and Eddie Van Halen too
Steve was awesome. Added some frills and it still sounded great.
Def Leppard in 1983...raw and in your f*cking FACE! R.I.P., Steve.

Que impresionante !! Que época Def Leppard
A guitar player's guitar player - no one like him.
Dig that Z body that Phil is playing, it just screams 80's. Brings back a lot of great memories.
Rick Allen used to jam and can still jam on the drums! Awesome!
Aw so cute the way they stand back to back and rock out together
I selected this so often.
When I was like 10 this was my favorite band. Then some said if you like this, you’ll LOVE this, and gave me Led Zep 4. Still love old def Lep, but holy fuck was that person right!!!!
One of my ALL time faves played in concert! I was at that tour too!!!!!!
Great play, Terror Twins!! Wearing same polka dots, SO CUTE: )
Funny seeing Sav with a regular old P-bass - seems like a rare sight. That's my bass of choice, but I always did love his pointy Hamer basses, especially the big yellow one.

i dont think so, this song is like 3 minutes long.
Nick Bratis It had to be cut down to fit all songs on a vinyl
Looks like smoke coming off Steve's guitar, he really was steaming Steve 😂

Good shit love this song
1:01 to 1:13 goosebumps!!!
steve is smoking i have never seen that approach before smoking and playing the guitar
Slash does it. He got it from Steve. ;)
Actually both Slash and Steve got it from one man.....Pagey.
+ButterBobWorth Also with page he would be sweating so much that the sweat from his head would put the cigarette out XD
+RyanThompsonGuitarist would smoking also affect your singing too?
DERSCHWARZE VOGEL Page wasn't a singer, but yes, it does affect your singing
Saw DL live when they open up for Judas Priest and Iron Maiden....must have been 1980-1981 ish greatshow
