- I've been itching to work with waxed canvas for a while and finally dove in. I have a lot to learn, but this firewood log carrier was a simple (non-intimidating) project to start out on.

Big Duck Canvas is who use use for our supplier of waxed canvas. Works well and they have whole sale pricing.
Really appreciate you showing your imperfections while you are learning. It makes novice leatherworkers like myself feel a little more motivated to keep learning. Love the outcome and would love to see more videos of you prototyping products.
OA Leather Supply has a pretty decent canvas & textile selection!
Merchant and mills!! They make amazing waxed canvases
One thing screams out to me: VLog - Making our own waxed canvas.
I saw your use of the vise....have a suggestion, go to an industrial roofing supply and get yourself a hand seamer. these are used to make small detail bends on flashing, but, since i reslized roofing is a dumb thing to do, ive found my hand seamers very useful in the shop!
I make a lot of stuff out of waxed canvas and get mine from Fairfield textiles. They're in New Jersey and have a lot of options. All their fabrics are died and finished in the US. They have some fabrics that are even milled domestically and talking to them, they're working on getting more.
My house is heated primarily by a wood stove and I love this idea! Thanks for the inspiration. I'll certainly be making something similar soon.
Looks nice and it’s superbly useful!
Halley Stevenson I Scotland ar the OG's when it comes to waxed cotton. And their products are awesome!
Oa leather supply has awesome variety of waxed canvas for sure and leather really quick delivery to
0:50 before you fold over the inside edge of the curve of the canvas, cut out little Vs. They will keep the fabric flat and eliminate bunching. The Vs go from the edge to one thread short of the fold. Depending on the depth of the fold over, you can use pinking shears or a pinking blade for your rotary cutter. Wider seams may require hand cutting the Vs just in the curved areas.
Another thing to try is hammering 4:20 the seam flat before sewing. 💖🌞🌵😷
Another good medium to mix into the craft.
OA Leather Supply in Canada has an extensive waxed canvas offering. Enjoy this and your other videos.
I forgot about that, but your right, i'll check their site again. thanks!
Would love to see more canvas work. From what I have found there unfortunately not much on TH-cam.
Great video Parker! Love the look of the carrier. The voice over was great!
Thank you for sharing this project.
Cheers!
Whipple
Fairly new to leather working. Loving how creative you can be with it. Also loving your vids.
Waxed canvas is a great material and I've made a couple of backpacks with it from patterns from etsy.
So elegant!
Sailrite has a lot of options. Great resource for a lot of other items also.
Sailrite has spur grommets and setters if you need those and they have some canvas, but not as much as Big Duck Canvas.
Great idea! Thanks for the motivation.
The all time toughest waxed canvas is rugged twill, product of the UK 👌 Its what Filson uses and has been for over a hundred years with a lifetime guarentee.
Looks great brother!
Thanks Doc;)
vou cortar a mala Antiga e fazer um assim pra mim kkkk. Parabéns pelo vídeo.
I'm surprised you don't get more of your stuff from Springfield Leather.
Another great video! Keep up the great work dude!!! You're one of the reasons I've started getting into leather just recently! You make it look so enjoyable. I gave it a swing and I'm like 5 wallets in so far. I can't wait to get better! Practice practice practice!
right on man! Thanks for the kind words:) Have fun with it!
Looks great 👍 should last a long time. Thanks 😊!!
Great video! Really enjoyed this! I've been debating trying waxed canvas also. Keep up the great work!
Dude I love videos like these
Really nice
Smith and Edwards use to have it!
Looks awesome man!
bigduckcanvas , already noted just wanted to second that!!!😊😊
Greetings from Russia, colleague! What camera do you shoot with?
This is an awesome project ! Do you think it is achievable le with just an industrial flat bed machine or do we need a cylinder ?
Yeah I think this project could all be done on a flat bed forsure
What thread you use for Cobra? is it waxed?
Due to fire 🔥 hazards wax canvas is a bad idea in some ways... in the oil patch Kindersley area ... using cotton with fire 🔥 proofing is Nomex ... this is a awesome safe idea 💡
If you find a canvas you like that's USA made "English Country Life" has a vid on waterproofing canvas and how to make the wax.
👌👌👌
Have you thought on making a coat in the next video?
Aaron over at Maker's has canvas.
Great Job! This project is on my todo for a whole now. I plan on using leather for the whole piece. Any practical reason why you went with canvas instead of leather?
aesthetically the leather could look all scratched up
Loved the project. I started doing some canvas/leather tote bags last year and have used marsidian.com out of Georgia.
Very happy with their selection of colors and weights
I like it quite a bit but I think maybe the wheelbarrow was your answer. At least to get the wood to the patio. Then use your nice little carrier to take it inside.
the patio is right next to my chopping spot so it wouldn't be necessary. Just needed something to carry it in the house:)
I’d love to know what weight waxed canvas you used. Good lookin!
I'm not totally sure. I ordered 16oz. But after comparing it to some filson products i have it feels A LOT like 24oz...
@@whitandpark Thanks! You rule.
OA leather supplies have good canvas
Mt Vernon Mills. For waxed Halley Stevenson.
Are you planning on selling the firewood carrier?
Anyway you do consulting and help me make a golf bag pattern?
Nice work. You could have reinforced the areas (adding another layer of canvas or leather) where the handles attach. I could see that being a weak point over time. If or when it fails, the great thing is you can just repair it or make a new one!
I could've but the canvas is 24oz (or somewhere around there). It's insanely heavy, so i really don't think it'll every pull through, but if it ever does years down the road i'll probably want to make myself another one anyway:)
@@whitandpark Heavy waxed canvas is kind of a pain to work with too. It’s nearly impossible to have consistent, straight stitch lines simply because of the thickness of the canvas strands. I love contrasting stitching but it can look wonky on fabrics with thick strands, if that makes sense. If you take notice to companies that sell heavy weight canvas or waxed canvas, usually the thread is color matched to the canvas.
Either way keep experimenting! I went from strictly leatherwork to incorporating textiles with the leather. So many more possibilities.
@@embeaston I hear ya on the stitch lines staying straight in canvas.
Big Duck Canvas.
Springfield leather
I love Sailrite.com for waxed canvas!
another vote for big duck.. been using the for years.. very good
stay away from canvas etc... horrible service
I hate the phrase "DIY" it's so ....vulgar.
