My real name is Michael McCluskey. I also do leather work. I have a 1938 Singer industrial sewing machine for sewing leather. I also rigged it to power it with bicycle pedals on an old dining room table. I cut out a hole to fit the sewing machine in and cut a slot to put a pulley belt through to run the sewing machine. What got me started was making a holster for a Zippo lighter and I did sell many of them.
I would be interested in seeing a video or at least a pic of this. Please!
That's very cool! I'd love to see your setup.
Its nice to see someone take the proper steps to make a solid well crafted belt..Well done sir!
I appreciate that!
I love the no BS presentation. You make a great belt and you've done it many many times and it shows. +1 sub from this guy.
I appreciate that!
I'm new two leather craft. Just under a year. I watch a lot on TH-cam. Yours is one of the best tutorial I've seen so far. Please keep up the good work.
As a hobbyist watching this video, I was really excited to see how you made the process very streamlined and simplified without cutting any corners in quality which I really enjoyed.
I ended up going to your website for the first time ever just to buy the acrylic belt template that you've created and was just as blown away by the easy to navigate and well laid out format of your site. You've even gone a step above with no nonsense streamlined checkout options. To make a great experience even better was seeing your thank you message pop up after the transaction reinforcing that you appreciate every sale that goes through. Everything about this was a great experience. Thank you for making content that helps better the hobbyist like myself trying to improve, and also to show your consumer base buying from you how much work goes into every piece you make for the best quality.
With such talented knowledgeable teacher we cannot fail. Thank you very much.
I admire your explanation and being aware of novices watching and learning from your excellent presentation.. God bless you and grant you good health !
Thank you! I really enjoy this work and sharing with others. I learn just as much talking with others.
Have just gotten into leather working.
Mainly steampunk creations that I've brought patterns for from etsy.
But in the past few months I've made a few bags and used them at work.
Today a work colleague has asked if I could make him a belt. This has been an amazing help. Though I will be hand stitching, mainly as I can't afford a leather sewing machine just yet.
Looking forward to watching many more of your videos.
Send us a pic of the belt you make!
The way this teacher turned his arm and body with the beveller as he edge beveled the church window point belt point is spot on! Aussie saddlemaker here. Makes for a very even, smooth bevel!
I love the way you explain every step. I’m thinking of getting into leather working and your instruction is great!
I hope you pursue your idea to get into leather working, very rewarding. There are some very good tuturials on TH-cam. Aussie saddlemaker here.
Nice to see a master at work, thank you for the lesson
You bet!
I love different camera angles and shots. Even a person who doesn't hear your language can really learn.
I so appreciate you taking the time to make a longer video to show this. Yes, it could’ve been shorter. But, I appreciate the extra time and letting us apply our attention to your detail. Your generosity of time and knowledge is appreciated! I’ve been leather working for several years (off and on hobbyist). It’s only in the last year that I’ve made anything worth showing. My only education has been from gifted and giving craftsman such as yourself. Thank you! Have a great day!
Glad it was helpful!
I like when a person comes straight to the point
Beautiful belt. I've learned a lot from you. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Hands down, this is the best leather tutorial I've come across. In any language (YT Recommend somehow steered me towards a bunch of makers in Korea - well worth the hunt). Thank you. Teach me Teacher - you're not only showing how to do different techniques but 'why' you're doing them.
I'm part-way through making my first belt (I'm saddle stitching the red lining to the black veg tan). It's really good to see all the steps laid out so clearly. Did I also mention that is a really beautifully made belt. It's going to be amazing in 10 years.

Fantastic video. I do a lot of woodworking and it’s interesting to see the crossover in skills and tools. You’ve really piqued my interest in leather working, thanks!
A pleasure to see such old school craftsmanship and attention to detail! Very appropriate for products that carry the AllFather's name. May he bless your efforts, sir.
Thank you sir!
Love it! "...all about the customer"
Really have some of the best videos around. Clear and great info. Loved trick about the little square. Wish you made more templates and videos to accompany them.
Thanks for watching. We have a lot more plans for videos and templates. Much more to come.
I love your videos - you are efficient with your time and instructions. You're an easy person to listen to.
Awesome video, I like that you explained what you were doing and why all the way through. Too many people just make it about the sound of everything.
I thought I sensed the discipline of a military man then I saw the Texas A&M ring. Go Aggies. Aside from that, this was a really good belt tutorial. Loved your clear explanation and use of templates, tools and the straight edge to get it right. Thank you. Go Navy!
Thank you for the compliment. I am not a military man, but I do try to govern myself accordingly. Thanks for watching! And thank you for your service!
This is amazing to watch. Never worked leather before, but now I want to.
Give it a try, but be ware... Its addicting!
@@OdinLeatherGoods That's what I'm afraid of.
This was soo helpful! The square Tip also to not glue to te ends! 💪🏻👌🏻
I really enjoy your videos - you explain all that one needs to know in order to start and complete their projects. I have learned so much from just the few videos that I have watched: thank you.
Nice video. Clear with no nonsense.
i use a bit of decking that has groves in it for the same purpose - my personal preference would have been some neats foot oil to stain the belt maybe 2 coats and bees wax on the edges.
I've watched your videos off and on (thanks to TH-cams crazy algorithms) for a while. I love your approach and how relaxed and thought out it is. I'm just getting started mostly, but I've recently gotten a lot more serious about it because I now have more time to do it. Thanks for sharing what you do!!
I have never done leather work but it's nice to see a Craftsman do his craft as I am a welder I like watching welding videos but I was very intrigued by your video
Thank you for watching. To be honest... I mostly watch welding video here on youtube. Have you ever heard of Jimbo's Garage (th-cam.com/channels/ocKqobMDsu7WKScGzunJVA.html)? I aspire to be a fabricator like that guy one day. LOL.
@@OdinLeatherGoods no I have not but I will go check it out
@@OdinLeatherGoods I need to show more of my work on my page but here is a little th-cam.com/video/GpsdCfjWpqQ/w-d-xo.html
Hey Odin, Speaking from experience. You should grind the top of the Rivet Punch that is flattening and cracking off. The Metal can break off and cause an injury. I got a piece in my eye that led to an infection.
That's a good tip, and make sense to be safer. I have in fact chip a few of those little pieces off in the past. I think these setters were at least a half inch longer when I originally purchased them.
Brilliant work, Odin! As always.
Thank you! Cheers!
Fantastic, professional work. I really enjoyed the video and learned some new things. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Man you make that look like easy work. Thanks for the awesome tutorial!!
Its only easy now, after I've done it a thousand time. I remember when one belt could take me hours and hours to complete. It's a process.
This is a lovely video thank you kindly for making it. Also, you have a wonderful voice. It's a pleasure to listen to you.
Thank you for the excellent video. Great attention to detail. Love the use of the square. So many good ideas. Epic beard, as well.
Gig ‘em. Class of ‘87, myself. One of my fellow Aggie Bandsman Classmates designed and built a really nice, almost Rodeo-style belt buckle. This video will definitely help me as I make a belt for it.
Started watching your videos based on catching a bit of the live stream with Stock & Barrel. Really enjoying the videos so far. Thanks!
Great video. Thanks for sharing. Maybe it's just me but I had to turn my volume up quite a bit to hear you. This isn't the case for other videos I've recently watched. Hopefully you can fix that.
I appreciate the feedback. We'll try to fix that in future videos.
A real pleasure to watch. 💪💪
Great video thanks. Good workmanship.
great video, simple,to-the-point, what a great craftsman, thankyou for making this video, look forward to more
New sub here. I watch a lot of leather craft videos but I sub to very few channels. I really like your content and I also like your demeanor. I now have a lot of binge watching to do. I guess there’s worse fates. Wish you and yours the best! Greetings from Alabama. Robert.
Thanks Robert! Let me know what you think of the new videos.
Great video and a joy to watch. Thank you.
thanks for sharing your knowledge. super cool to learn something from a master.
Superb!!! Yes, You presented a Most-Superb tutorial.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for sharing. God’s blessings. (Old guy from Arkansas)
Thank you Sir.
Great video. Good explanations and to the point.
Thanks!
Thanks man. I appreciate the kind feedback.
Beautiful as usual.
Odin is using two rivets to secure the belt buckle and the keeper. One should realize that rivets precludes changing the type buckle used at anytime in the future.
Awsome! Fist video of yours I've seen subscribed instantly. Thank you look forward to seeing more.
I have much to learn.
DePoppe Leatherworks.
Awesome, thank you!
From Spain 🇪🇦. I don't speak English but I understood everything. I also produce belts, what you have interesting is to see your instruments. Coincidentally I am looking for a carpenter to make me a gutter to put the belts, to polish with soft sandpaper, moisten with 50% water mixed with tragacanths and then Tokonole. And make a 40mm x 10mm wooden mold for pass-through.
Greetings Mr.
Learned a lot from you, much appreciated, you sharing your knowledge.
Been making belts the same way and guarantee them for life. Never had one come back.
Nice looking belt! Great video tutorial!
Good video. Giving and educational.
That’s the goal. Thank you for watching.
@@OdinLeatherGoods I was just now looking to make a high quality mystery braid dress belt because mine “shrank “. Ready..go!
very well spoken and easy to understand .good job little fella.lol
Thanks bud!
very nice work. I make belts too. I put a finish/sealeron mine. such as tan kote or a sheen by many names but something to seal the leather. I like the rivets. most of the people I make belts for provide their own buckles so I use Chicago screws. thanks.
Thanks for being exceptional!
That was excellent. Thank you for that
Thanks Richard!
You are a badass! Love the belt and a pleasure to watch you do your craft.
It may not be the strongest belt in the world - but it is nearly exactly how I make mine. You could tow a truck and stick in back in your jeans and wear it. Well done. Much respect brother.
That beard is as classy, manly and awesome as a beard can be, and then some!!!
Thanks Bro!
Kahan hai company hai kahan salary kitna hai
Excellent tutorial, you've gained a subscriber!
When a video has nothing but very nauseating music the volume is very loud. An excellent video like this and I can barely hear it. I did hear enough to learn a lot. Thank you.
I received a few other comments about the volume... We'll check for that in future videos. Thanks for the feedback.
@@OdinLeatherGoods Don't misunderstand me if there was no sound at all it would be a fantastic and very informative video. Just saying that you are well worth listening too. Thank you...
No worries Steve! I understand and appreciate the feedback.
I love leather craft n u make it simple n easy.
Enjoyable, informative illustration of your production process. In your store, I did not find any "Heritage" belts; the closest construction may have been the "Stockton" model.
Howdy! Thanks for stopping by the store. I may have been out of stock of the Heritage belts. We make them as fast as we can but its hard to keep them in stock. I'm happy to make one to order for you if you like. Just send us an email through the website.
thank you
Great video- really insightful. Would you please share where you purchased the small anvil? I could so use one for my shop😊
Do you have instructional videos? And do you have a place where you buy your supplies?
That german waterbased stuff is amazing. I can't believe how good it is, and was super hesitant to leave my regular super stinky chemical thick regular oil based contact adhesive.
I honestly believe this is the best belt video out there!!! thx so much. :o) this is the first video of yours I have watched. I am now a subscriber. :o) :o) Love your work!
Wow! That’s a huge compliment. Thank you.
Did I somehow miss you sewing the belt together? Any information on sewing the liner to the main belt?
It’s at 13:02. Then the video does not show the stitching of the belt keeper (loop), which is the same (just more delicate).
We only showed a little bit of stitching quickly we didn't want to bore any of you with it. We can include more stitching on future videos if you like.
@@OdinLeatherGoods that's helpful
Beautiful belt! Would love to know the brand/source of the stapler you use for the keeper!
This is great! Ty!
You have an awesome beard. And I like your work. Thank you.
What brand of sander do you use? Nice piece. Sure beats sanding by hand!
I’m new to the leather crafting arena. I’m hoping to make a variety of leather products. Right now, I’m making the wife and I a couple of holsters, at Christmas time, I made a friend of ours a can koozie for Christmas. Any suggestions on the types of leather products I should focus on to get myself established out there? Thank you in advance for your time and help.
Beard is ON POINT!!
I appreciate that!
I had never thought of using a square to get my tip ends aligned, and now I feel like an idiot.
I can't tell you how many times I watch a video and see something like that and think, "why didn't I think of that!" after you see it, it's just so obvious...
Also, check if the punch is symmetrical. It’s not to be taken for granted with all the stuff DIYers like myself order from China… ;)
Very true!
LOL. I alway feel silly because so many other make it look simple. I like to make sure everything is symmetrical. The little square helps for me.
What is the name or type of tool did you use to measure the thickness of the leather? I need one of those to keep me from guessing what it might be. Thank you!
I guess it would be a leather thickness gauge, but I’m not a native speaker or a professional leather worker. Hope this helps though.
There's not much I won't share about leather craft sans a few secrets I keep - this isn't one of them. LOL. It's a small leather thickness gauge. You can find the exact one here - bit.ly/3lofpeV.
So clean and simple. You can tell that you've spent time refining that process.
Thank you. I've definitely made a few belts over the years and have gotten better and better each time. :)
Man, i gonna order one of these !
Very inspiring! I kina lost my leathermaking-mojo a while back but your videos are inspiring me to get back on the horse! A quick query if I may, I'm in the process of deciding on a flatbed or cylinder arm machine to make my limited time more productive, if I was combining wallets, belts, collars and the odd bag, would it be better to have a cylinder or flatbed as a more "allround" machine?
Cylinder arm is more versatile…..but also more expensive. Some can be adapted to a flatbed machine with a kit(or if you’re a diy kinda guy).
Why don’t you make them with replaceable Buckles using screwable anchors to close off for the buckle?
Best tutorial.
Hi there sir.
What type of leather and what thickness for a belt should I get for jeans that will last decades?
I know nothing about belts.
Do they make them out of one piece of leather or 2 glued together? Which will last longer?
Which type of animal leather is the best?
Thank you.
Hey hate to bug you but I was trying to figure out what kind of stapler you use to staple your keeper straps together?
Great job, thanks!!!
Sorry if I overlooked it. Is this belt unfinished? Any oil or other finish coat?
Also, I see you hadn't published in 1 year till yesterday?
Welcome back.
Thanks for welcome back! It’s nice to share videos again.
This particular belt does not have any top finish to it. The harness leather I use doesn’t require any additional finish. It already full of waxes, oils and tallows.
Great belt, Great teaching, Great video, ,,,,,, the only thing i did not like is the staple for the keeper. I am sure like you said it will last for the entire life of the belt but the staple makes it look cheep in my opinion. Keep the vids coming man. Thanks
I've been working with leather for a couple years now, I love it. I bought 2 sides of 12-14 oz leather (I ordered 8-10 oz but got 12-14 oz, ill use it anyway) and decided to turn it into belts. Would you have any recommendations for tools, brands, or leather dealers?
OLD LEATHER SMITH here, Not Bad, Great 4 Beginners, UR camera person is EXCELLENT, GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾️🙃
Just my preference, but I would rather have snaps and not rivers holding the belt together so I could change buckles if I wanted. Unless it’s just a dress belt, most men I know have a drawer full of different buckles.
absolutely! rivets are a automatic NO-GO on belts. chicago screws are the best thing for it because they still have the strength, but also allow people to change the buckles.
For my own belts, rivets don't bug me because I'll just pop em out, I find that snaps can wear out and let you down after a while, sometimes I'll even stitch the buckle in, worst come to worst you just cut the thread and restitch after.
Snaps are weak and screws get unscrewed. Rivets for me please. One proper buckle is enough for me.
That's a fair comment. When requested by a customer I will use snaps, but I'd prefer Chicago Screws (with a dab of loctite) if the customer needs to remove the buckle. All that said... Most customer NEVER change their buckles, so I opt for the most secure method possible - solid brass rivets. NOT pop-cap or double-cap rivets which aren't very strong. It really just depends on the customer. Most my customers are not switching belts. But, when requested I happily oblige.
does the adhesive work well when making fold over single piece knife sheaths? Im bouncing between contact cement and seiwa glue. Seiwa doesent get tacky enough to keep thicker hides folded. I would like a non toxic adhesive that is comparative to contact cement.
Beautiful.
Thank you.
Great video man 👊
Appreciate it!
GREAT JOB, GREAT VIDEO, SEE YOU NEXT TIME...
Thanks for coming
Excellent.
....... this is greatly intresting to me ! .......... 👍🏾 ......
That makes me happy! Hopefully you're inspired to make your own, or purchase one for me or another great leather crafter in your area. Either way... We appreciate you!
What is the purpose of using a liner? Will a 10-12 oz. leather be ok with just the leather belt without a liner? I am a beginner in leather work. With very limited supplies and tools. LOL! If the liner is important to use, I will use it. Like I said I am a just starting beginner. Thank you!
The liner is not required. I use the liner to make for a more finished look and an even sturdier belt. My belts tend to average 14-16oz in thickness. I also make single layer belts that are 12-14oz thick.
@@OdinLeatherGoods , Great!! Thank you for the quick reply!
What’s 14-16oz in mm?
