Before I became a Funeral Director, I was a Palliative Care RN.
I was fortunate enough to have worked with some outstanding Death Doulas. They were really worth their weight in gold, some are not worth talking about. thanks for highlighting both the good and bad aspects of the Death Doula. Another great video, Sam,

I started my nursing training last year to get into palliative care not even knowing about this until recently and now I'm like "have I wasted the last 12 months, should I just do this...?" This video was very helpful/informative. Thank you.
I've heard 1000 times about birth doulas but never death.. but i suppose that's true to form people don't often speak about death over brunch like they do births.

Being a Death Doula was once among my occupation options. Not sure why, now, or what stopped me in the end. Weird part of my life. Definitely would like to think such things get a bit more normalised in the future though, it's such a great concept. Birth Doulas and Death Doulas, a supportive advocate at each end to help with the best comfort and outcomes x

This was great!!! Thank you!! Especially love the emphasis of finding the right fit for you or your loved one! Never feel obligated to retain a bad fit.

Thank you for this video! As a Death Doula, I appreciate the information that you shared! And especially highlighting the pros AND the cons! You're right...there are good ones and not-so-good ones out there and as this is an extremely important time in someone's life, it's important for them to do their research and get someone that they really resonate with. Thank you for the work you do!

Your channel deserves so much more love and attention from the general population; brilliant informative videos about such interesting topics.
I’ve wanted to be a death doula since my father passed and now I think I might actually look into it

This episode was very interesting and I have heard of death doulas before especially since I used a birth doula. I unfortunately didn't have the best experience with my birth doula so I definitely agree with the idea of being picky with who you choose because these people are ment to be your voice and support you and your family in a very difficult time.

In the past year I've seen a good friend and my mom off into the great beyond. Hadn't thought of doing this professionally. It's probably easier if it's not someone you're close to at the start, but the responsibility to one's client does seem a bit daunting. You only die once, have to get it right on the first try.

I've sometimes had the itch to explore a career as a death doula. I think I could help some people, but on the other hand I also think my pragmatic approach to death might put off a lot of people. Probably it's not a good option at my time of life, but it's still something I can contemplate. I've had a lot of experiences with end of life through a large family where I was close with the two previous generations, most of which are gone now. I've seen it done well and seen it done badly. Most people don't seem to do a very good job, or at least that's been my experience.

Sounds like an overlap in service with RSWs.

This sounds like a fabulous opportunity of employment for someone who is a former Director of a historic cemetery, who took the time to learn the history of religions and has had her fair share of loss to feel empathy. However, this is Baltimore, Maryland, so I went back to retail and remain banned from the corporate cemetery industry.

I gasped when you said some death doula is against pain meds. Omg. Isn’t life hard enough

I think it's might be because when you transition over, you should not be medicated as it delays transitioning. That's what I've heard. However it's not my choice but the clients.
