Unclaimed Bodies Scandal: Dallas County & UNT's Shocking Secret Revealed!
So it would appear the University of North Texas and Dallas County have made a bit of a mess for themselves. The kind of mess that includes 2350 unclaimed bodies and $2.5million dollars. I had the opposite problem with my Dad's body after he passed away. He had signed up with an Australian university to donate his body to science. But the uni wouldn't take his body. It turned out that when the uni changed to a computer database of donors, they had sent new forms for my Dad to sign. He never signed them, so unfortunately, his wishes weren't granted.

Not only undignified for the deceased, but the poor families for those who were missing persons Not to mention all the possibly suspicious deaths that might have been picked up had someone bothered to do a basic pass, as is the job of the county morgue when random bodies turn up (ie: no one can immediately account for Joe they died while in hospital or an end of life care program etc)

Many years ago, plastinisation of bodies was developed. Then, once done, were "models". Sold for exhibition in many countries. For probit. Allegedly, executed people. There is a big market for everything, if you can cash in. Sad, but it is human nature, I guess, if money is driving us.

We used donated human bodies when I was at Uni. The thought that they weren't actually donated is horrifying. The Uni I went to had it's own donation program here in New Zealand, they weren't purchased. But I'm sure many of the students who used the bodies supplied by UNT would be just as upset as I would have been.

I'm American so I'll say it for you: the military here dngas about the vets. They're treated pretty much like the wrapper of a candy bar. The military got what it needed from the product and uncaringly throws the leftovers away. Now, off subject, I tried to make a comment on your recent vid about Romanian death culture, but TH-cam would let the post be submitted. Imma gonna ask here, then: I've seen pictures of deceased people with headbands placed that had Orthodox pictures of saints and writing. Because of what they look like I assume it's a ritual most likely performed in Russia, Romania, and those areas that are Orthodox. But, what is it, what does it mean? BTW, my assumption is due to my being baptized, confirmed, and partially raised in the Orthodox Catholic church, so I recognize the pictures and writing, but I have never actually seen the headband thing, except in pictures (via videos on TH-cam of memento mori).

You can’t really teach kids respect when you’re not there to catch them making a mistake to correct them. The teachers are. You can say all sorts of things outside of a teachable moment that will not sink in for a child. But if you’re not there for the teachable moments you can’t do anything. Children need to learn things immediately. Not 4 hours later. This is just one reason I homeschool my kids now.

When my younger daughter was 12, a girl who had been in her class but left the school, was killed in a hit-and-run accident. As parents, we gave our daughters the opportunity to attend her funeral and accompanied them. I believe it helped my daughter accept the finality of death and let her express her feelings. I think it's impossible to keep death as a topic out of schools. It's a part of life and unfortunately students, especially in high school, will be exposed to deaths of young people they know due to suicide, drugs, car accidents etc. They may also have to deal with the death of family members.

In the US I think the closest we come to death education is literature class. We puritanically don’t want the kids reading about - gasp - sex, so every poem, story, and novel is about death. But not in a helpful way like you’re talking about.

On the subject of parents finding something to complain about… not death related… We were learning about culture in my 2-3yo kindy class. Celebrating all the different places of the world our children’s families have come from. I am first Gen Aussie on my fathers side - the rest are from Japan. And I’m proud of that heritage. The rest of the families supported this learning and sent in many cool cultural artefacts for us to explore….except for one family. One family became very upset and told us that we were causing division and unnecessary focus on where his daughter’s family came from (Iran), instead of the fact that they were Australian. I tried to explain to him that it was a celebration of differences AND to remind them that, yes indeed, they came from different places, but we are all Australian. But yeah, he wasn’t happy. I looked at the situation as being that his daughter would eventually feel ashamed that her heritage is Iranian. I mean, we have a kid in my class who is proudly Russian AND Ukrainian! And we celebrate that!

There was a coming-of-age-movie titled "Submairne", in which the idea was floated that the main purpose of pets is to die and thus introduce children to the topic of death. Part of the plot was the protagonist trying to murder a friend's dog. Her mother was sick with cancer and he wanted to make sure the dog dies before.

So, I haven't heard this issue specifically preached on. But, overall god's sovereignty is preached on a lot by Presbyterians in particular. Baptists as well but not quite as much. Life being sacred is commonly used as a reason for opposing Assisted suicide and such. It is my understanding that catholics view suicide as self-murder effectively, under the justification that only god has the right to end a life. (Or maybe arguably the the state as well. Since they are given the power of the sword.) Some other Christians also believe that, but it doesn't seem to be super common around here at least. Although, of course it is still viewed very negatively. There are people who sometimes make remarks about people who commited suicide going to hell and such, but that is really insensitive and viewed with disdain. So it might be that there are more people who believe that but are ashamed to mention it. Overall, since life is sacred. At least trying to save someone who is dying if you are able seems to be a duty to an extent. But, in cases where someone is in extreme pain and has has to be resuscitated multiple times then it seems like it would be sensible to respect god there, since it would seem like he is trying to take them to an extent. I do think it depends upon their age, since it kind of feels particularly tragic for someone very young to die, especially children. I think that is more of a general cultural thing though. If you had a young child, or even young adult who was hurt very badly, then in that sort of situation Assuming there isn't a triage concern, then I think it would make more sense and wouldn't be as cruel to revive them more times. But if someone likely isn't going to live much longer anyways, and forcing them to hold on just a little bit longer is going to cause a lot of suffering, then it isn't treating them very well to prolong it.

When I was in my first year of middle school U.S. around age eleven. It was a small town and our class had roughly 80 students we all knew each other on some level. A sweet boy died of a farm accident. The day of the visitation we were escorted down the street to the funeral home (ironically a few blocks from the school) and filed past his open coffin. We didn’t have to go but I think that almost everyone did. That was one of my first experiences and left a profound impression on me. I wrote about it occasionally as I reflected that he didn’t look like the boy I knew, resembling him but he wasn’t present💕 As an adult I am very pro death and dying education so thank you for your service ❤
